King Arthur vs Devil Kitty is a 13th Century French tale about the legendary King Arthur and his wizard Merlin, who travel across Europe to take on a giant kitten! Writer Daniel Sumption and illustrator Maximillian Hartley have updated this story for modern readers - children, adults and immortals alike. This beautiful illustrated book is inspired by kids’ picture stories of the 1970s, Monty Python, Jabberwocky, Gawain & the Green Knight, and The Goodies vs Kitten Kong.
Alongside the story of Arthur and the Cat, medieval scholar Dr. Laura Chuhan Campbell, of Durham University, explains the historical background to the tale its 13th Century French origins, and its previous translation into English, in the 15th Century, as part of what is now known as The Prose Merlin.
And for players of Dungeons & Dragons™, there are stats for bringing the Devil Kitten into your roleplaying games.
This is a 56-page book, available as both a hardback and a paperback, both of which are 210mm x 210mm, full-colour throughout.
Dan Sumption is an artist, writer, and publisher, producing works of indeterminate genre, based high on a moor on the Edge of Nowhere, in England's North Pennines.
Love love love this story. Who knew?! I'm not gonna spoil it for anyone. Suffice to say, if you like a beautifully illustrated and produced easy read that teaches you something, then this is the book for anyone. Even younguns! Although make sure you read it first. Contains scary fighting detail and peril. Took me right back to reading this sort of tale when I was smaller.
