As I try to help people, including family, understand what generative AI is about I find this book to be a great resource. Now, I have been looking at it since it was in early access, but I am asking co-workers if we should read it and discuss it as in a book club.
As the title shows, much of this data will become obsolete, so, for example, I don't use OpenAI, but prefer to use Ollama and I use invoke-ai instead of Stability Diffusion, but, these are just tools, the concepts remain consistent.
Do you want to understand what prompt engineering is, he has a chapter on that, and shows various prompts in his example. You may want to use multishot prompts to help the LLM understand how to solve your problem, but if you don't understand the term this book will help.
What are some applications that would be helpful to see as GenAI, well he talks about some of that, and discusses whether you may want to take investment advice from an LLM, but what if you want to try to make sense of the documents generated by companies to explain their risks and how they are doing, these are technical, so why not make it available to an LLM and let it help to make sense of this dense document?
Do you want to understand about creating images using text, he has a chapter on that and gives some examples, and these can help understand the area, even if you don't use those specific tools.
It is a very broad area but the author does a great job giving a introductory discussion on the various areas not just for generating text, but creating workflows to solve problems, so, for example, rather than watching a long video, he shows how to use various tools to take the video, turn it into a transcript then by the time you are done it has been summarized, so you can get to the meat of the video and save yourself time.
Don't read it expecting that the tools are what you should use, he gives enough examples so you can adapt to whatever you choose, and also at the end discusses privacy concerns and other issues exposed in this area.
I strongly recommend the book.
