Shadow Island #13

Shadow's Escape

Rate this book
You can run but you can't hide from death.

When a fisherwoman reports seeing a local young woman potentially assaulted or abducted, Shadow Island Sheriff Rebecca West’s heart constricts. The disappearance of three other girls in the span of a week can’t be a coincidence. But other than being about the same age, everything else about the girls and their mysterious disappearances are inconsistent. Besides, since all are legal adults with no jobs but plenty of nice things, it’s entirely possible they just took off on an impromptu vacation.

Except none of the girls took their car. And no one is answering their phone.

Now, Rebecca’s intuition is tingling because the young women do seem to have one thing in common. The Yacht Club.

When the body of one of the girls is discovered, Rebecca vows to track down the killer before they claim their next victim. She should be campaigning to keep her position as Shadow Island’s sheriff. But the elite and depraved Yacht Club has been preying on the girls of Shadow Island for far too long, and no one has been willing to do anything about it. Until now.

Shadow’s Escape, the thirteenth gripping installment in the Shadow Island Series by Mary Stone and Lori Rhodes, unravels a tale of privilege, predation, and peril. It’s a stark reminder to be careful of the secrets you keep because they may be keeping you.

Everyone can make a difference. We have a case of missing girls and girls being killed. They are associated with the Yacht Club and so the danger and secrets are flying from the start. Rebecca quickly sees connections to teenagers from earlier books and tries to find out what is actually occurring and how to ensure the girls safety. Hoyt and Locke have a moment that shows how much the team is trusting Locke now and how much it means. Some of the characters who frequent the series such as Bailey the ME had standout scenes either emotion and grit. The story flew and the ending with Serenity had me tearing up. Of course the overarching questions of the election, who runs the Yacht Club, what is going on with Ryker still exist, but we did get a fun and sweet answer to Rebecca’s housing and one heck of a worrisome cliffhanger involving one of the series and towns favorite moms!

Oh my goodness this series is good. Things are really starting to heat up I'm the little Island town of Shadow. With the new Sheriff taking down more of the Yacht Club, things ate getting a little crazy around them. The Yacht Club are running scared and starting to make mistakes, acting crazy. When the Yacht club starts to retaliate its not a good thing. Especially when they start aiming for the Good Guys. The Shadow Island Team may even loose one of their very own. This is a definite must read and it just gets better with every book.

SHADOW’S ESCAPE is the thirteenth installment in the Shadow Island Series by Mary Stone and Lori Rhodes. Get ready for another well written, exciting murder mystery that will have you hooked from the beginning. You'll hard a time setting this book down for even a few minutes.

Rebecca West should be campaigning to keep her position as Shadow Island’s sheriff. Instead, as always, the people of Shadow Island take precidence. Three girls have vanished in the span of a week. No  evidence is found to point if they left town,  ran away, or were taken by someone.  Rebecca’s intuition is tingling. The depraved Yacht Club has preyed on the girls of Shadow Island for years and her gut tells her they are behind the disappearances. Rebecca has lots of work ahead of her.  Will she continue as Sheriff or become a vigilante to take down the Yacht Club.

I am anxiously awaiting the installment to see if the Yacht Club caused Meg's car wreck. It's time the Yacht Club went down!

If you haven't read any of Mary Stone's books and enjoy mystery thrillers, start now. Mary and her co-authors definitely know how to get their lead characters in trouble. I do recommend this book and the series.

I did receive an ARC of this book from the author and this is my freely given and honest review.

This is the best of the shadow island series yet. Young girls go missing and nobody notices it. It’s just by chance that the woman in the fishing business thinks something went wrong and reports it. Rebecca starts to unfold the strange disappearances and worries that Aqua mafia is involved. And how is Dillon involved?! When a body of the one of the special girls is found, the case gets hard on everybody’ personal feelings. The traces of horrible torture the girl endured make even ME sick. At this point I realized, how much we do not know or pay attention to the real world of human trafficking and other terrible crimes. Mary and Lorie wake up our consciousness using the best thrilling crime stories. It is a shock when Rebecca finds and eliminates the suspect. The truth is horrible behind the acts and it brings up question, is it even possible to stop and prevent this crime? Will Rebecca survive? There is so much more action and emotions packed in this book, starting right on the first page. I love how fast the characters grew on me after being addicted to Winter and Autumn. Thank you. Bravo

Finding a Killer

Sheriff Rebecca West never seems to catch a break. She is dealing with feeling smothered by Ryker and trying to campaign for Sheriff when she receives the call about a possible kidnapping. Rebecca and Hoyt find a pool of blood at the scene which indicates something bad has happened. Who was taken and why?

The case gets more complicated when two more girls are reported missing. Now Rebecca and her team have three missing girls to locate. When the body of one is found, the rush is on to find the other two before they are killed. Rebecca believes the Yacht Club is involved with the missing girls. Will they find the other girls in time? Is the Yacht Club involved?

Rebecca is waiting to find out if she will be elected Shadow Island’s sheriff when she receives a call that Meg has been in a car accident. What happened to Meg? Who is responsible for the accident?

Shadow’s Escape is well written and has plenty of drama, horrifying moments, suspense, and those twists and turns to keep you on edge until the end of the book.

I enjoyed listening to this book about Rebecca West, Hoyt, Jake, Trent, Vivian and the rest of the Shadow Island sheriff's department. I am committed to finishing this series hopefully ending up in the Yacht Club's destruction.

Everyone one on Shadow Island seems to be in danger. I think this book should have had a trigger warning. There are some fairly gruesome details in it regarding the yacht club girls.

There were plenty of "hold my breath" moments as Rebecca and her team worked to discover what was happening with the missing girls. I truly don't like books that have an ongoing story that requires you to read the entire series. In this case, I am determined to see it through to the end. It's the characters in the sheriff's department and their relationships that keep me going. I also have to admit that I am suspicious of Ryker and hope to be proven wrong, but who knows? I’m still really enjoying the individual stories, but I can’t quite get to the 5* “love” stage, because this 20 book Yacht Club story arc is getting old, and the whole dynamic with Ryker just got weird. Why’d they have to do that? Why can’t she have one good thing going? And, what was up with that weird note he got her to write? Like that’s not going to go badly….

Honestly, the Ryker element was never written that convincingly imo anyway. I just never really felt it. I’d be fine if he was just gone and we got her a stronger, more dynamic and engaging MMC. Only a few books left, but we can hope.

Shadow's Escape is the thirteenth book in the Shadow Island series by Mary Stone. This collection of twenty books (so far) is a gripping ride through mystery, suspense, and human darkness.
With former FBI agent Rebecca West at the helm, the books masterfully weave high-stakes investigations, layered characters, and island secrets that kept me on edge.
Each installment balances chilling crimes with deeply personal stakes, rendering Shadow Island both a paradise as well as a nightmare.
This is a fast-paced, twist-filled, and psychologically compelling series - a page-turning must for fans of thrillers and atmospheric mysteries.
Happy Reading…

Mary Stone along with Lori Rhodes have written a captivating series and the latest, Shadow’s Escape is no exception. Sheriff Rebecca West and her deputies have a daunting new case involving girls that are running away to save their lives. In this novel the authors describe the cringe worthy torture that these teenage girls have suffered at the hands of Yacht Club members. The writing is oh, so good! A thrilling read with twists and turns and an intensity that will keep you reading day and night.
AND YES… quite the cliffhanger!

I didn't think this series "Shadow Island Series" could get any better and then I received "Shadows Escape". I loved this book, no less than I have loved all of Mary Stone's series.
To think Rebecca running for Sheriff in a town or island full of horrible, crooked men who loved to do unthinkable things to young girls. Watching this all unfold into a case that I'm hoping will crack the Aqua Mafia.
You need to read this book, this series. You will not want to put it down.

Another amazing book in the Shadow Island series. In the midst of trying to campaigning for election for sheriff, Mary and her crew have another disturbing case to try to solve.

Young girls are disappearing from the island and are leaving no clue behind. Once again, the Yacht Club seems to somehow be involved in their disappearance.

The book is full of mystery and suspense and I can hardly wait for the next book in the series.

Excellent Read!!!!

I have absolutely loved this entire series and can’t wait to eat started on #14. Really gonna hate it when I finish this series but goodness how much more can Shadow Island take? But one thing for sure I sure hope Rebecca and her deputies finally disband the entire Aqua Mafia for good and lock them all up! Especially after rewarding this book and hearing what they did to those beautiful young girls! Read this whole series! You won’t regret it!

Even small towns can be corrupt

I really have been enjoying this series about Sheriff Rebecca West. This book was a little disturbing even though it is what the series has been leading up to.

This book shows how we need to be protecting our children and how easy it can be for them to be taken from us. It talks about grooming and the horrors that can happen to anyone caught up in this trap.

When a dangerous situation spirals and the stakes rise, this book leans into tension and momentum in a way that really worked for me. The plot moves quickly, with a strong sense of urgency that made it hard to put down. I felt more invested in both the investigation and the characters here, and the balance between action and mystery was well done. One of the more engaging installments in the series and an easy recommendation for fans.

Will the horrors of the Yacht Club ever cease? Girls are going missing and no one seems to care. Rebecca and crew are trying to hunt down these girls to determine they are safe. However, it seems someone has gotten to a few of them first. They need to find out what is going on and putting a stop to it. Add in the fact that the election cycle is happening …

Young women are missing. Rebecca has to find out what is happening to them. Now somebody has started killing these women. Why and what is behind all this? The yacht club aka the Aqua Mafia is behind all the crime on the island. Will Rebecca find the answers in time to stop the murder of other girls?

I think this is the best so far in this series. Blood is found after someone sees a young girl being assaulted, but no body is found. Rebecca and her team start looking deeper into some other similar situations, and a disturbing pattern emerges.
The election is heating up, and Rebecca is still wondering whether she'll have to move or not.
Action packed, violent, but an exciting story.

The Shadow Island series never disappoints. You're hooked from the first page and cannot stop reading until it ends. Book 13 is just as amazing as the rest. A gripping suspenseful story with great characters and what an ending. The next book can't come soon enough. Thank you Mary and Bella for allowing me to be an ARC member and letting me read these awesome books.

This time the Yacht Club was eliminating the girls wanting out.

Rebecca was being inundated with missing girls seventeen to twenty. They all came from her island and she felt like she and her crew were very far behind on finding the killer. Then she dug up a clew and they started putting the facts together. What they found were more dead bodies and a taste of horror.

Best Yet

Rebecca keeps on taking down parts of the Yacht Club. This one is the best yet but there’s more to come. Shadow’s Escape is a terrible story of vile and frightening things with lots of honor and hope thrown in, but it’s not the end of the line. Can’t wait to read the next one.

Good read

The 13th book is as good as the other 12 books. However, I'm secretly hoping that Ryker was a plant and is keeping the Yacht Club informed on what Rebecca knows, is going to search for, and what she is so ng every , minute. It would make for a twist to the plot for an ending.

still on the Yacht Club

Depredations by the Yacht Club continue in the background as Shadow Island is suffering the disappearances of young women, suspected of ties to the Aqua Mafia.

The how and why of the disappearances is double-pronged and a serial killer tangentially connected to the Yacht Club is uncovered
