Darkstar Mercenaries

Sublime Target

Rate this book
Jerik Garul wants a mate.

As a former High Commander in the Kordolian Imperial Military, he's used to getting his way. Blunt-spoken and gruff, he has a tendency to shoot first and ask questions later.

He doesn't know anything about humans and their mating customs. And he's mystified at how several of his battle-brothers—hard, ruthless, and lethal—have succeeded in securing their own females.

Apparently, there's a method to this madness. A way to seduce a human woman; to make her come willingly.

He just needs to figure it out—and he's determined to do it his way.

Sublime Target is a light novella set in the Dark Planet Warriors/Darkstar Mercenaries world. It features a grumpy Kordolian ex-commander, mild office drama, and a hint of spice.

I’m so addicted to this series! It was fun hearing another of the Commanders’ stories. Nice and different build up, my only thing is that these always seem to end just a bit too soon! This one I noted that the proofreading and editing was much improved from the last one I read in the series.

I got bored towards the end because the romance got lost with all the action. Being that its a novella I wanted the romance to play a bigger role.

Jerik might not be First Division, but let's face it, ALL the Kordolian warriors are pretty terrifying and awesome. Except to their mates. Their special someones might see the strength and lethalness of their warriors, but they're never terrified by it.

Yes, Clarissa definitely fits that bill. She might have been a little overwhelmed by Jerik and his crew when she first encountered them (not that she was about to let them see how they rattled her), but she was never afraid of Jerik. In fact, most of what rattled her was how drawn she was to him despite his imposing demeanor and piercing stare.

On Jerik's end, he knows he's compatible with Clarissa, but he doesn't know how much he'll come to admire and crave her before that first meeting. Then she met them with cool competence (even in the face of her boss's douchery) and it was ALL OVER for the big guy. He was smitten. All in. There was no other for him. And that was before he ever caught her scent.

A series of events intended to let Clarissa get to know Jerik before he expressed his intentions, a boss that sounds HORRIBLE to work for, a determined warrior, and a lady who gets to see the softer side of the High Commander and REALLY likes it. Man, I like spending time with these Kordolians and the ladies who capture their hearts.

YES!! Just so GOOD!!

If you are like me, and are absolutely addicted to Kordolians, you need to read this story.

Commander Jerik wants his own mate, and hopefully even a family--but he needs a plan.

Turning to mated fellow Kordolians for help, he takes a logical approach: a list of genetically-compatible human females is prepared for him--any one of which could trigger his mating fever in person--and one is selected. Elaborate plans are made for them to meet, but Jerik is taking no chances on the fever until he knows if they are truly compatible. Fully masked, fully shot-up with suppressants, he meets her and falls hard anyway.

Clarissa is the top assistant to a multi-billionaire with practically no life outside of her high-paying, high-stress job. Her boss wants to set up a deal to make money off of the Kordolians, so she does her research...and the next thing she knows, she's not only received an invitation to a Kordolian cultural event, but she has a small Kordolian delegation show up at the billionaire's office building on pretext of an unscheduled meeting with her boss. The one with the mask is almost too much to take in...but when danger suddenly appears, she begins to realize that he's not really there for her boss at all...

I bought this story the moment I got notification it was available, and don't regret a thing...except, of course, that I don't have a big, silvery alien warrior of my own.

Five stars are never enough.

Pretty good

I love this series. This one was a little different but still good. No nefarious bad guys trying to ruin the universe this time. Don't worry, there was still some exciting danger to make the story good. It even has a HEA.

Disappointed

I'm so disappointed with this one. No questions were answered. The whole book was one week!! Way to many unnecessary details. These books started as smutt with a good story line they should finish that way. I've been so patient....

🥹🔥 Love it to bits. but would have preferred a longer ending. 😿

Seriously, Is this how one’s end a delectable morsel of storytelling, first I got caught up avidly devouring every passage to the point of fast reading every word to arrive to the end , thinking I was going to get a wide view of the elaborate party Clarissa was going to attend with her commander and to be cut down with nothing. Whyyyyyyyy 😭. I cannot get enough of Darkstar Mercenaries. And the next installment. They rock. 💕

Extremely Disappointing😵
I used to really love these books by Anna Carven📚 about the Kordolian👹🗡💪🚀 warriors. Now in the last recent books, the stories are not nearly as good or detailed.
Character building and world building has dropped off.
Seems like the author is just phoning it in.

I got this e-book from Amazon📚 with Kindle unlimited.

Sublime Target by Anna Carven
Rating 4 stars
**MINOR SPOILERS**
This book is part of a plethora of books, novellas, and at least two spin off series related to the original Dark Planet Warriors series. Specifically, it is the first of a duology titled Exquisite Fever. I do not recommend it as a standalone.
Jerik has seen other Kordolians find their mates and is interested in finding one himself. He does not know how to do so and asks Tarak, his commander, how to go about it. Tarak suggests using a human database to look for compatibility and then to meet potential mates.
Jerik asks Mavrel, a technology expert, to look into potential mates for him. Mavrel is the male main character of the second book in the duology.
Jerik is a bit gruff and clueless about how to go about starting a relationship with a human. It was endearing to see him trying to do things the right way. He is also very honest with Clarissa about his intentions and his history.
Clarissa is the executive assistant to a land developer. He owns a parcel of land next to the Kordolian complex in the Australian outback. The Kordolians want to buy the land in order to expand their compound and to create a space buffer around their property. Clarissa is very talented at her job: poised, efficient, and smart. When she meets Jerik in a work context, she has been leading a routine life. She wants a change and has no idea how drastic a change is coming her way.
The pace of the book is fast. The point of view alternates between Jerik and Clarissa.
In a couple of books, the author makes certain implications that I do not like. In this one, Jeral thinks “logic and instinct were at war inside him. Part of him wanted to just take her for himself and be done with it. There was a time when he was different. When he didn’t think so much about complicated things like morality….When he didn’t think so much at all. But that was a long time ago….He was under no illusions that the old him would have taken advantage of his power over her. He was furious at his old self. That’s why he was more determined than ever to do this right.” Ok – so what exactly is the author implying – slavery? R*pe? Subjugation? In the end, he wants Clarissa to trust him and to come to him willingly. He wants a partner. He has seen other Kordolians have respectful, equal, and loving relationships with humans and he wants that. Because it was not exactly clear, I only dinged the book a star for it. If r*pe had been more explicitly stated, I would have given this book 1 star and discontinued reading the author’s books.
I think it would be nice for the author to include a reference list in the books. Included could be the names of the different male and female main characters, planets mentioned, aliens mentioned, and maybe a few word translations (siv, etc) that the Kordolians use.
I plan to read the second book in the duology.

What am I going to do when this series is over 😂💖🌟🔥 from book one the Kordolain's have found a special place in my heart. I wait impatiently for each new story with its irresistible warrior wishing I could have a Kordolain of my very own. In this story Jerik a commander of the elite forces wants a mate. He is actively seeking someone to share his life with. He goes to Tarek and asks him to reach into the database and see if he could find d some one who might be compatible. Enter Clarissa, a beautiful hard working woman. With strength integrity and intelligence. She works as the personal assistant to a spoiled billionaire. She's excellent at what she does and has a core of steel to get the job done. And then she meets Jerik and her world changes forever. Jerik was able to do business for Dark star and meet the woman who could potentially become his mate. When he meets her in person he knows its her the more he gets to know her he realizes he won't be able to live without her. Clarissa, has never been more attracted to a male in her life. She loves how protective he is and his strength and control appeal to her. As she gets to know him she falls hard and fast and just must make split second decisions for her future. Stay and be miserable and potentially safe at her job or take a chance on a fierce Kordolain warrior who will love her like no other! I know what I would choose🔥💖🔥💖 this was a fabulous addition and I look forward to the next book! Anna Carven never disappoints!!!🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖🌟🌟🔥🔥💖🔥🌟🔥💖🌟💖🔥🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟💖🔥🔥🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟💖🌟🔥

Another Kordolian bites the dust !! ❤❤❤

What a fantastic addition to a super delightfully enchanting series !!!!
I Love how these Kordolians love , and thus book was no different.
In this book we meet Jerik, a Commander of the Dark star mercenaries group . Jerik has seen the entire 1st division fall under the spell of the human women , and he finds himself wanting that same future. A mate and little ones running around sounds like a good idea to him .
Clarissa is an executive assistant to a trillionare in Sydney . He is very demanding , but it pays the bills . Her boss has tasked her with finding out more about these Kordolians . Perhaps he could help them with some real estate or something. ....
On a very ordinary day , Clarissa unexpectedly finds herself at work with the very Kordolian that she has been researching!!!
That annoying mating fever is a beast , but Jerik is in control .
Just barely !!!
Such a sweet story , just makes me want one of my own !!!!
Always very happy to read another Dark star book !!!!

Shucks! I would enjoy reading any book Carven writes about the Kordolians. At first, I didn't think I would like this novella because it started off sounding like it was going to be like The Dating Game. You know what I mean, two strangers fill out a form and Oo-La-La, the computer finds your match for you, but it wasn't like that.

Jerik Garul, Kordolian High Commander wants a mate. He is abrupt, gruff and committed to his duties, but he is ready for a mate and family. He is willing to listen to the advice given to him from the female mates of his comrades because he really doesn't know much about human women. But he is resolved to be who he is. After he meets Clarissa Lee, the woman matched for him, he decides he will do anything to have her. Clarissa is everything he would want in a mate and mother to his children. The challenge is to convince her that he is everything she wants. He is hoping she will look past his scowling unattractive looks and demanding demeanor and see his honesty and sincerity.

I enjoyed reading the many ways this pure Kordolian soldier had to resort to human ways in order to win his Clarissa. I just luv when I can walk away from a finished book smiling.

7.5 is a beautiful addition to the ongoing Kordolian saga

In a new approach, Anna has introduced dating to the Darkstar universe. I was glad to see a new story and I am very much looking forward to book 8.
Jerik is looking for a mate in a straight forward Kordolian manner. Human customs for dating are different, but he is willing to work within the constraints, hoping for his own HEA. While navigating the human ways to meet & get to know someone, he is adorably transparent with his intent.
This is the first intentional mating... no deathly situations or forced proximity. He gets help from a number of sources, surprising even himself by his willingness to compromise. (I hope we see more of "The Manual" in future stories!)
Once again, 5 happy little stars.

Loved it!

Another great read! I absolutely adore the Darkstar series and can’t wait for the others books to come (please let them come) because as bada$$ as they are, they are total and complete marshmallows for their women. I also like the fact that while they aren’t as SuperHero invincible as the First Division, they are still just as incredible when it comes time to kick a$$. I’m always thrilled to read and re read this series and highly recommend this and the First Divisions series as well. Give it a try and enjoy!

This was such a quick read. Generally, I like books that are in the 300 pages range. But the length of this book almost got the best of both worlds. Nothing was dragged out unnecessarily. We got to the conflict quickly and it was resolved quickly which I really appreciated. However, I still would’ve loved if there were like two more chapters maybe three. I do think I have found a new author to obsess over now. This is the second book of hers that I’ve read where the writing exceeding expectations.

Beautiful romance!

Jerik & Clarissa’s romance is fun, dangerous, & romantic! Short story worth the read. There is great character development. Previous Kor
-dolians mated pairs are weaved into the story making it interesting & hard to put down! I would love to read more about Jerik & Clarissa in the future. Telling about the cultural event would be have been grand! Jerik would end the evening with hot, mind blowing sex! Clarissa had found a true mate that give her what she needs!

WOW ..

This read is lava hot ..Jerik character is your usual arrogant, dominant, loyal Kordolian Commander. How the author described his first look, the scent of his mate brought him to his knees, then ride the mating fever made him dangerous however he held it for Clarissa. I love her character, she was also going through a horny phase too. But it was the anticipation of when they will do the deed ..is what burnt up the pages ..gosh I love this series and love those Kordolian Warriors.

So good

I pounced on the first word and sighed, but not sadly, on the last. I feel like I need more, sorry Anna, but I hope that there isn't a long wait for the next story. It's almost like a craving. I'm in love with your work. I cannot tell you how many times that I've reread the series. My favorite are the Abby/ Tarak novels, but I love all of them. God help me if we ever are invaded by silver skinned elves because I would immediately surrender.

I am crazy about this series

A new bad boy Commander. Wow and he is amazing, patient, determined and smart. He wants a human mate and is willing to suffer for one. As soon as he sees her the mating fever starts and he has to balance that with the control to go slowly and allow the process of winning the trust of his chosen mate
So well written you can't put it down. I loved it and hope you do too.

A short book with our alien friends looking for mates. I find myself really enjoying this kind of subject nowadays and this one here is interesting the FMC is cool and she didn’t take a lot of time to make her decisions the alien omg he’s very confident and clear about what he wants and this makes the story very easy and refreshing to read. I really enjoyed it just didn’t give it 5 stars bc it’s too short and I like those sappy endings and the end result here was just fast

love

I really love this series, it’s well written and the story line is pretty incredible. The only negative is the female characters are always “ you won’t control me, tell me what to do, hurt anyone because that’s MY people’s way “. It strikes me as very hypocritical because the females tell the cordolians you either do what I demand , follow MY way of life or we won’t work. Very frustrating to read at times.

At Last, I Found It!

I must be blind because I looked everywhere for this story because it was love at first sight and I didn't remember the title, didn't remember the series of books it was in and fell into despair for a season. I even pouted and refused to search until now. But I'm SO happy because it was just as awesome as the first time I read it and I plan on purchasing it before I lose my brain again. It's that good!!!

Transcendent!

OMG, Sooooo Good! Who can resist a grumpy general looking for a mate? Love that Clarissa is a strong, perceptive heroine. Sublime Target is a fabulous add to the Darkstar Mercenaries series. I’ve long been a fan and can only hope Anna Carven continues to add more books to it.

This one really didn't work for me. The pacing is slow and disjointed because there is too much repetitive inner dialogue. Before I finished the book, I was thinking it reads more as the Kordolian equivalent of a college age meet-cute. The action and alpha alien-ness that make this series so appealing is missing here.

Darkstar Mercenaries PERFECTION

There is only one thing wrong with this book, it’s too short! I love the Kordolians and the universe that Anna Carven created. This novella was a perfect snack of a story. The MMC and FMC were enjoyable to get to know. There was a perfect smattering of comedy, the pink paint had me giggling.

Another sexy Darkstar mating nugget. Yum!

I believed in the characters; Jerik's Mating Fever was very convincing; the pacing was just right; I only wish there was more about Clarissa's new life with Jerik. But we can imagine anything this way...

I Adore This Series!

Lovely. Sweet. Romantic. Endearing. Growly. Masculine. Big. Horny. Intelligent. Where can I get a Kordolian for myself? Really cute story. I demolished the entire book in a few well spent hours! Thank you, Anna Carven!
