I am seizing the patriarchy by the balls, and I’m going to give it a vasectomy.
I may have been crowned Queen, but it rapidly becomes clear that the title doesn’t come with an iota of respect: in fact, it’s a death sentence. My enemies have handed me a crown and now they’re sitting back to see how long I can keep it. Challenges will be coming thick and fast, and I need to be prepared. Luckily, Esme was born ready and I’m a fast learner.
Of course, that’s when the dead bodies start piling up. Someone’s cleaning house, removing all evidence of their involvement with the deadly black tourneys. I’m determined to find out who is responsible – even if the witnesses keep winding up dead.
As if crowns and corpses aren’t enough, a shadowy organisation called the Domini extends an invitation for me to join their illustrious ranks. It is all too clear that their invitation comes with hidden dangers and refusing will have far-reaching consequences. And not just for me…
I may be sitting pretty, but I can’t help feeling that soon I’ll be sitting dead…
Don't miss this werewolf shifter series if you like humour, heart and a strong heroine with a slow burn, loyal-beta fade-to-black romance.
Written in British English.
Devour all the books in the Other Wolf series: Defender of the Pack, a prequel story Protection of the Pack, book one Guardians of the Pack, book two Saviour of the Pack, book three Awakening of the Pack, book four Resurgence of the Pack, book five Ascension of the Pack, book six
Not sure if the reason this installment didn’t hit with me is because it has been so long since the last book published and I’ve just moved on, or if the characters weren’t up to their previous quality. Either way, this book was just okay for me.
The Other Realm is so cutthroat, and yet I love every second of being there!
Lucy and Greg are back to tackle the patriarchy and abusive alphas as Lucy travels to the seat of power to claim the crown meant for the new werewolf queen.
Even though the action is packed and the stakes are high, this author still makes me laugh with her humor. Esme is literally the best, and her inadvertent quips are amazing.
There were some parts that had me gasping in shock, and laughing and smiling like a loon in others.
I don’t know where the plotline about Lucy’s grandfather is going, because she has plenty enough on her plate already. I have a tiny little theory, but we’ll see!
Well this was an adrenaline rush! Lucy continues to smash through glass ceilings and does it with warmth, humor and her supportive cast of characters- love this new installment and I can’t wait for more!!!
I loved coming back to Lucy's story! She still has so much to tell.
Even though she was declared Queen of all werewolves, she isn't officially crowned until she claims her crown, and boy that is not easy. See it is being protected by a sentient house and for at least a hundred years, maybe more, anyone that enters is not seen again.
On top of that she's still dealing with dark forces, black tourneys, and dead bodies on her land. It's a lot for one woman and her wolf to handle. Luckily, Lucy's wolf, Esme is not daunted.
As usual Heather G Harris has hit it out of the park! This book is full of everything. Intrigue, danger, action, political maneuvering, and of course a touch of romance.
Don't miss Lucy's story. If you only liked Jessica Sharp (Jinx) from the first series, this one (about her bestie) enriches that and is brilliant in its own right. Check it out today! The others are coming hot and heavy after this and you don't want to miss out!
This book series is so great .I love the Lucy ones .Absolutely love the new character Nina introduced in the previous book. I would go and visit her anytime.
AWAKENING OF THE PACK by HEATHER G HARRIS release date 1st September
Shoo! Where do I start with this book? So so much happens, in a very flowing, precise manner, full of emotions, actions and a brand new twist! Excellent? UNSURPASSED! So, Lucy's troubles are far from over, yes she's been accepted by her own pack, finally, but with the demise of Beckett, she's accumulated another. And this pack is fearful, this pack was so traumatised by Beckett, she has her work cut out for her again. AND there's yet another murder on her doorstep! What I adore about Heather's books, is that the tempo is there from the start, she winds her story in such a way it's like an octopus snagging me with her suckers, hold on fast and dragging me into the depths of the story. Oh and there's this little ritual she has to undergo before she's officially accepted and crowned as queen.... one threat after another hits Lucy, dead people landing by her front door, betrayal, jealousy, the Connection, the Anti Crea, the council, even a strange organisation called the Domini, who definitely DON'T have Lucy's best interests at heart! I could almost visualise Lucy being in one of those rooms that the walls and ceiling are slowly coming together to squash her from all sides. But our Lucy is a survivor! Our Lucy is so super smart! Our Lucy is the bomb! It is Lucy's conviction, Lucy's compassion, that inevitably saves the day, both hers and countless others, see? She IS the bomb! Then there's the beautiful thing she and Amber want to do for Jess, well heck, and with this statement, "I was going to sieze the patriarchy by the b*lls and give it a vasectomy", THE bomb solidified!l I ove love love Lucy so much! I love her resolve, even when she's completely out of sorts, her inherent sense of right prevails.
Who would have thought that spreadsheets could be so... erotic 🤣 The romance between Greg and Lucy is a vision of beauty, tangible, palpable, delectable, ALL the "...able's"!!!! One of the many impressive elements of this author, is her ability to conjure up a world such as this, a world of magic, of mystery, of family, found and true, her ability to lay red herrings along every path she carves, I'm never sure which path she will choose, concealing truths, is the perfect way to keep a reader engaged, immersed. The vividry of the story is so scintillating, so graphic, so much so that one particular scene drew a parallel to "Carrie" by Stephan King in my mind. She introduces new characters effortlessly yet ultra effectively, always pertinent, always interesting, always enticingly shrouded in mystery. Like Jacob, oh my goodness is he AWESOME! There is no stagnation of plot, nor character in any of Heather's books, there's always progress, onwards, as they grow throughout the series. Lucy's growth is phenomenal, her powers ever evolving, seeing her come into her own is pure joy! Her bond with Esme is pure joy. Her growing confidence and NICENESS is pure joy.
I love the sensitivity, tenderness and.....with which Heather highlights the topic of sexual preferences, really thoughtful and compassionate. A vital part of this tale, as you'll see when you read it. In fact, how Heather gets her characters to be so relatable, so much a part of me, is mindboggling! Which only speaks to her superb storytelling skills. The struggles Lucy faces in integrating the new pack, the struggle she has to accept her status as queen, her struggle to do right by everyone, just makes Lucy the amazeballs of amazeballs character! Then there's her love of Greg, which, if I were reading the paperback, would have set the book on fire! Sooooo delicious! There were some really heart in throat moments, one was when Ben... well, Ben... yeah, as I was reading it I wasn't sure WHOSE pulse was pounding! And OMG is Lucy's mom just the best! Her love is so unconditional I shed a few tears ..
What an incredible, immersive, fantastic read! And mean that in the "fantastical" sense of the word too, everything I could have wanted in a story to keep me from remembering to eat or drink, was here! The cherry on the top of this scrumptious cake was Ivy, I just melted with warmth at her introduction and her fate. But let's not forget the effects Nina and Terrance had on me, but oh lordie did I giggle at his, ummm, antics! And that cliffhanger ending? No! Just NO!!!!!! My emotions will be tightly wound and won't be able to uncoil until I get the next book! https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Awakening of the Pack is the fourth book in Other Wolf series and picks up after Lucy has defeated Beckett, and Mrs Dawes and taken up her mantle as Queen of the Wolves. However, she has not yet completely assumed the role, as she does not have the crown, nor the seat of power. As such, many of the British wolf packs do not yet see her as the Queen, but only a potential Queen, and a potential threat for power. Lucy also broke the curse on the Gargoyles (with help from Amber and others), and they have now become the Dark Seraph, loyal to Emory. As Awakening’s unfolds, Lucy finds herself facing multiple issues, the Werewolf Council was at the mansion, having come to swear loyalty to her as the new Queen, but wanting her to go to the seat of power and claim her crown. Then there is the matter of the dead body on her lawn, the Devon pack she has inherited from Beckett now residing in her mansion. This all on top of several other packs (Jimmy Rain for example), are gunning for her. Awakening follows Lucy as she begins to unravel the death of the body on her property, and how it is related to the black tourney’s. It also follows her as she begins her journey towards claiming her crown from the seat of power. This is going to be a very real challenge for Lucy and Esme, for they have to follow this path on their own, without the support of the Home Counties pack, to show that they are worthy of being Queen. It not only means going into the seat of power and claiming the crown, something that hasn’t been done successfully by anyone in hundreds of years, but it will also mean facing the countless contenders for the crown once she has taken it. The first three books in this series really showed Lucy using her people skills to bring the pack together, to repair the damage that had been done by various factions, as well as the loss of their leader Lord Samuel. It also showed her and Esme cementing why they were the Alpha of the Home Counties pack. Awakenings sees Lucy and Esme having to stand on their own (Well, with each other?), to face the challenges being thrown at them. This is not just a challenge for Lucy and Esme though, it is a huge challenge for Greg and the other members of her pack, who have become incredibly loyal. During this book, we learn some new things about pack characters, and see just how loyal they are to their new Queen. The character work continues to be exceptional in this series, with each of the major (and many of the minor) characters being developed further in this book. Esme is brilliant in Lucy’s head, and their interplay is one of the highlights of the book. There differences in personality are highlighted a bit in this book, which is really interesting to see. Lucy continues to grow, with further development of her relationship with Greg, but also both of her families. There are multiple other story arcs with Lucy, that make this a fascinating book in the series. One of the really interesting parts of this book, is that it runs parallel to the ‘Court’ series with Jinx, and so Harris has had to interweave Lucy’s character into what happened in that series, into this series. If you have read the Court series, it makes for an interesting crossover, and Harris has done an outstanding job. For lovers of Urban Fantasy, there is probably no better series than ‘The Other Series’, either the original Other and the Other Wolf series. For many series, there is always that concern the sequel will not be as good as the originals – but this is NOT the case here, with Awakenings probably outshining the originals, and setting us up for a stunning continuation! Absolute Must Read!!
For the puposes of this review it is the audio version of the book "Awakiening of the Pack." However, I have read the book as well.
Lucy was first introduced as a character in “Glimmer” a previous series by Heather G. Harris, which takes place in the same world as “Awakening the Pack,” which is the fourth book in “The Other Wolf Series”. A lot has happened in Lucy’s life up to this point and now there is even more intrigue, danger, and a great deal of responsibility on her as she steps up to become the Queen of the English Werewolves. There is one more step she must take before she can be crowned and recognized officially as the Queen. However, before she can go to Fellworth House, the seat of power, to be recognized, she must stay the unrest that is running rampant within her territory. Two conspirators have already died, the black tourney, a group that is fueling fights between lone wolves to fill their pockets, needs to be found and stopped. While there is even a larger secret group that wants power over all the wolves for their own gain. There are still those unhappy with a woman in the seat of power over the werewolves and would see her dead. Lucy has her supporters, including her Beta lover Greg Manners, as others come forward from her past, more of the pack are starting to gain trust in her methods of dealing with trouble. There is a great deal of world building and storytelling for those interested in starting at the beginning of this series. Lucy is learning more about her natural family, her relationship with Greg is heating up, as are others finding romance, but there is danger, murder, villains, and a few antiheroes that broaden the tale. Getting caught up in these books is easy and even easier to follow along and get involved with characters that transition from one book to another. Stories can bleed over into other series as well offering a richer understanding of the worlds Heather G. Harris has created. I can highly recommend these books. Listening to the audio has been a delight. The narrator’s recounting of the story is never dull. Her British accent is clear and concise, making it easy to follow even when I’m not sitting still. Catching the voices of different characters as she changes her delivery slightly for each makes the telling more like listening to a storyteller than simply reading the book aloud, word for word. I did take the speed down one notch to .09 so I could enjoy listening at a bit slower pace. This was the first audio I listened to for this series, since I had read the books, I had no problem following along with the tale. And while I have previously read the other books, I want to begin with the first book again and spend time listening to the story on audio. I recommend not only the books but listening to these on audio as well.
All of the Glimmer series have incredible world building and storylines, but what they also have in common is incredible, strong, likeable female leads, that each have their flaws and insecurities, but are not bowed by them, but rather made stronger by them, and find ways to use those flaws to their advantage. There are no words for how excited I was to hear that we would now get more of Lucy’s story.
Lucy is smart, beautiful and funny, but also needs to be liked and is inclined to be a people pleaser. You may think that would be a disadvantage in a werewolf, especially one pronounced as Queen. On the face of it, Lucy is all that most werewolves might despise, but you don’t get to be a curse breaking, buttkicking alpha of not one, but two packs, without being more than just a pretty face. Her need to be liked helps her to bring about connections between members of the packs, forging bonds and strengthening them, which also helps to protect those in her charge and bring about their loyalty. She can show her fangs when they are needed and she has already learned the danger of leaving enemies alive, but empathy and compassion play their part too.
Lucy’s connection to The Great Pack has brought about big changes, but now she has more challenges to face and somehow it doesn’t seem as if claiming her crown is going to be a walk in the park. What, or who, is the Seat of Power?
As the story progresses we learn more about the history and background of the werewolves, how they have progressed (or regressed?) to where they are now. Lucy has a battle on her hands to figure out who can trust, what their motivations are and how on earth she can first of all claim the crown, then survive once she has it. She also knows more changes are needed for the werewolves to flourish and regain what has been lost.
There is a real mix of action, danger and betrayal, alongside love, loyalty, friendship and family ties. Lucy learns more about her ‘real’ family and her relationship with Greg continues to develop. As in previous books, Esme, Lucy’s wolf, brings as much humour to proceedings, as she does strength, support and vital input via her wolf viewpoint. The misunderstandings of metaphors bring some laugh out loud moments, as do Esme’s blunt opinions at times. We see, or hear, more of old friends and new friendships are forged.
Over all there is not one negative word that can be said about this book, except that it’s over too soon and there is a cliffhanger ending, but as is more to follow soon, I’m sure that can be forgiven!
I cannot recommend this book enough and, if you have found this book before reading any others in this series, do yourself a massive favour and go back and read everything, because you will not regret it.
Awakening of the Pack is the fourth book in the amazing Other Wolf series by Heather G Harris and I’m loving it!
The first three books took us through Lucy’s transformation from human accountant to werewolf to alpha of the Home Counties pack and fulfilling a prophecy to become queen of the werewolves.
There’s a lot at stake, and Lucy has a pretty big target on her back as some of the other packs’ aren’t happy with her new-found status as their ruler. She’s definitely got a lot to prove, and not just to her enemies.
As she and Greg (with a little help from their friends and allies) have to deal with the situations arising from having been proclaimed queen, Lucy and Esme (her pragmatic and hilarious wolf) learn some interesting things about their abilities, the Great Pack and what they need to do in order to be confirmed as queen.
This read is a perfect example of the author’s writing: compelling storytelling, perilous situations, snarky interactions and absolutely hilarious conversations as can only be found when Heather G Harris is penning the dialogue between a character and their wolf.
It’s always great to see character progression in series, and I know many readers will already know Lucy, Greg and the others from the first three Other Wolf books (and some of the Jinx Sharp novels too), but seriously the author has a gift when it comes to her characters. Whether they’re major players, sentient objects or just passing through, it’s as if they’ve burst fully formed onto the page!
Greg is always a favourite character for me and I love that he’s such a solid and steadfast presence in Lucy’s life. But don’t assume that means boring as he’s as far from that word as it’s possible to get. He’s Lucy’s rock, he takes no-one’s bull and he’s sharp as his wolf’s claws.
And not to forget Esme, Lucy’s indomitable wolf, who’s fiercely loyal and never short of advice, even if sometimes she doesn’t quite get Lucy’s human sayings (which results in some epically funny internal commentaries between them).
I’d recommend this book to any readers in search of a dynamic, action-packed and wonderfully rich urban fantasy - five stars just isn’t enough!
This is book 4 of Lucy’s story, and for best storyline continuation, I suggest you go to Harris’ page and start with Jinx’s story. This was an ARC read and I really appreciated the quick summary of events prior to the kickoff of this. It’s been a while since I’ve been immersed in the Other Realm and the summary helped me get caught up quickly.
“Dead bodies were becoming par for the course - and that didn’t feel like a good thing.”
Now a summary for you: As it should, this book starts with dead bodies. Lucy and her werewolf Esme are crowned Queen - or at least they will be once they’re crowned on the Seat of Power. (Yes, picture a Game of Thrones type seat. It’s what I did.) While trying to integrate her pack with Bennet’s old, abused, pack, Lucy must face challenges from other Alphas and the shadowy Domini organization.
The romance between Greg Manners and Lucy is sweet, and all s*x is alluded to but never explicit. He would literally kill for her, but instead trusts her enough to let her flirt with other men AND fight her own battles. Plus, he finds what she likes and makes sure she has it (like PowerPoint presentations. Lucy is weird.) Total green flags right there.
The family dynamics are both strong and realistic. Lucy’s mom drops nuggets of wisdom like “When you love someone, you love all the parts of them. All their flaws and their foibles, as well as their virtues and strengths.” But her father struggles to find his place in Lucy’s world - and if you haven’t felt a lack of support from your parents at one point or another have you even been alive?
Now I love me a good side character and I also love me some sentient objects, and this book did not disappoint in any of those aspects. The banter between Lucy and Esme always makes me laugh. And the emotions Harris draws upon throughout this book… I laughed, I sniffled, I hilighted a good quarter of the book, I read sections aloud to my husband. I was shocked at the ending and kept trying to swipe to see what happened next. (The answer was a big fat NOTHING. How could you end the book like this and NOT have the next book ready to go already?)
Quotes I loved: 🐺"I was going to seize the patriarchy by the balls and I was going to give it a vasectomy." 🐺"Lucy Barrett was indeed the Queen of the Bitches, and by tooth, nail and claw she was about to prove it." 🐺"Evil didn’t come neatly packaged in one gender, race, or ethnicity, it mouldered through society dressed up as apathy and indifference."
This is the fourth book of the Other Wolf Series; however, it does play a pivotal role within a much larger world including the Other Realm series and the Other Witch series, all of which are interwoven within one another. Whilst one series is not needed to solely understand the other, they're all fab series that I'd highly recommend and are the best book escapes!
This book takes off where book 3 left, Lucy has just played the key role in awakening the great pact. We follow Lucy in the aftermath of her being proclaimed Queen of the English wolves. Unfortunately, its not as easy as simply being crowned, there are a lot of Alpha Males who are stuck in the old ways, leading with fear and violence.
The book follows Lucy during her trials and tribulations of the Queen role, and let me say, what a rollercoaster it is! The one constant is Greg and her found pack family who support her through it all.
The character development from book 1 to book 4 is fantastic, and the storyline is phenomenal. I truly enjoy the way that all 3 series are interwoven with one another and enjoy every written word.
I feel Heather truly grasps the author with her words, making this series (along with the others linked) an amazing book escape.
I can already feel a book hangover coming on, and if you haven't already, I'd highly recommend checking all of Heather's books out!
We are fucking back, baby!🙌🏼 seriously, if you haven’t dove into the Other realm yet, you’re missing out! And the Other Wolf series? Definitely my favourite!
Lucy is a whole ass mood, and I love her so much as a heroine. All she wants to do is sit back with her tea and a good book, and instead it’s just murder after murder, after threatening secret society, after murder, and she just cannot catch a break! Despite her people pleasing ways, Lucy has come to terms with the wolf-eat-wolf world that is the Other Realm, and she just gets increasingly more badass as she learns sometimes you gotta slaughter a few enemies to get the Crown! Smashing through the glass ceiling one alpha male at a time.
And Greg! Sweet, charming, military funny man, Greg Mathers. I am in love with this duo, and honestly keep forgetting that this romance has only been a couple of weeks because they’re just so freakin’ cute and in sync.
Thank you Heather for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review! Your world is one of my favourite spots to be, and these characters feel like great friends at this point! I can’t wait for more🤍
If you were to read any of my other reviews then you would see that I am a massive fan of this author! I have devoured all that she has written and I feel like an addict waiting for my next fix of her writing. So far there are three different characters that we get stories for set in The Other and this book is the continuation of Lucy & Esme’s tale. If you have read the first three Lucy books then stop right here ✋ it is very important that you go back to the beginning (Protection of the Pack) and read from there. If you’ve already read the previous books, have a terrible memory and don’t have the time to go back and reread them first then fear not, the author has helpfully put a breakdown on what has happened in each previous book (thank you so much dear author as this really helped me). Awakening of the Pack starts pretty much from where the last book finished and there’s no lull in the story just because there is no time for it. This book is full of character & world building and action, but it’s not in your face action, it’s important to the story as the world that Lucy is in now is cut throat. The story that twists and weaves through that action is just magical (literally) it transports me in to the book and I really feel like I’m right beside Lucy experiencing all that’s going on. Old characters make an appearance in the book and we also get introduced to some new ones (there is one in particular that I’m looking forward to seeing in the next books but I won’t say who as don’t want to spoil anything). This really was a great read for me. I loved the development of the story and it kept my attention captured throughout the whole read and has me excited for next book. A five star read for me. Loved it!
This book did not disappoint in any way whatsoever! Heather G. Harris has a way of building a world that I can really dive into and not bother coming up for air. I was so into the story that the dog had to headbutt me to remind me to get up and feed him!
Heathers main female characters are strong women (which we all love of course) but they are different from a lot of the usual strong kick arse women who take no rubbish from anyone. They are strong and relatable without all the irritating angst that sometimes is written about strong women’s internal worlds and Lucy is no exception to this. This world takes the usual fantasy tropes and turns them on their head. One example is Ares – Other Universe unicorns are like nothing you’ve ever seen and they are brilliantly vicious. I was so excited for the continuation of Lucy’s story which shows her being more confident in her role as Alpha of her pack and everything that comes with her exceptional additional power. There are so many characters to both love and hate in this book, the story sucked me in and I found it impossible to stick to ‘just one more chapter’ I just couldn’t put it down. One aspect I really love is that while there are some intense parts in the book (and in the whole series) I can trust the author not to devastate me.
This universe is one I can dive into again and again and this book is no different. It really is a fantastic book that you will not want to put down and will probably draw you into the rest of the books in the Other Universe because the stories are just that good and the characters (starting with Jinx in Glimmer of the other) and world building will draw you in to reading the whole lot as fast as you can
NOTE: This book picks up shortly after the Other Wolf book 3 leaves off, and ends in a mild book-hook cliffhanger (about 3/5 on my trauma scale). No need to reread the former books, because there is an excellent recap at the beginning of this one; but you do need to have read them before reading this book if you’ve never read them before.
Lucy is settling into her role as alpha, but now that she’s also been recognised as queen, she’s got a lot on her plate. Finding the dead body of a council member, dealing with the politics involving the packs, and claiming the crown that will put her firmly into power, it’s a lot for one werewolf to handle!
Some very interesting things happen in this book, as Lucy works hard to secure her power. This particular book is occurring concurrently with Jinx’s second series, and Amber’s series too, so you’ll see some of those events overlapping a little as this story goes on. We learn quite a bit about the Great Pack, and some of what has been going on is revealed, giving this book a rather dark tone. Fortunately Lucy and Esme manage to come through it well, if a little scarred!
A thoroughly enjoyable read, this is sure to satisfy those who have wanted more of Esme (and Lucy), especially those of us who were wondering what she was up to during Jess and Emory’s trials and tribulations (the second set of books in the Glimmer storyline). This is a great story for werewolf lovers (make sure you’ve read the preceding three books first), urban fantasy fans, and for those who have enjoyed Heather G. Harris’s various otherworld series.
Lucy and Esme are a powerhouse duo even if they are housed in one body. I love the dynamic that is this pairing, the disconnect between wolf and human also provides some wonderful moments of humour that give these stories a fun edge especially when things get a little serious and dark. Ever since she was turned Lucy has done things her way, changing the rules and bringing back to the wolves things they had lost. Now she has been made Queen, things are about to change - well after she's actually been crowned that is, because it turns out there are still steps that need to be taken for it to all be official, and doesn't that throw a little spanner in the works - especially being as formal announcement of the Queen's mate is somehow all tied up in this political mess. There are prophecies that need to come to fruition and mates to be claimed - and none of her pack want to even look as though they are coming between Lucy and Manners, but there are still rules to be followed and games to be played. Lucy and Esme work well when faced with challenges and games though, and others still continue to underestimate them much to their own detriment. Lucy and Esme have to figure out all the elements using both their strengths even when they find themselves a little at odds, as well as how to incorporate the other pack into their own and pass the test to gain the crown. Things are going to get bloody and dresses are going to be ruined, and her enemies really shouldn't have messed with Lucy's family. I received this book as an ARC copy.

I have been reading Heather's books since her debut and I am taken on a delightful ride! "Awakening of the Pack" is the fourth Lucy book and takes place concurrently with Jinx's second series and Amber's first. I recommend reading in publication order even if it is wonderfully torturous to be back before the end of Amber's series!
First off, I greatly appreciate the detailed summary that Heather included at the beginning. It really helped me get back into the world.
"Awakening of the Pack" picks up after the bombshell about Lucy's family being fire elementals and her position as Queen of the Wolves (although Esme & Jinx have a different name for it...). Poor Lucy, yet again, has to deal with a dead body on the lawn and this quickly escalates to her needing to be crowned in the Seat of Power. There's just one catch: no one has gone to the Seat of Power and survived in centuries.
Lucy & Esme are, as always, a delight and I was thrilled to see Bastion & Amber again (not that I am biased toward them or anything). It was great seeing Lucy command the werewolves and take her place as Queen and fun to more of Lucy's family.
My only quip is that Lucy seemed a little 'slut-shamey' to someone with Botox and a revealing outfit and it seemed out of character for someone who genuinely cares about people and not what they look like.
Oh my gosh!!! I had just finished a re-listen of the other wolf series (the 3 previous audiobooks are amazing) when I heard Heather was doing another part to the series and I was so excited. This book follows straight on from the last one and hits the ground running. I am so glad me get more Lucy/Esme I love the duality of Thier character and Thier interactions with each other both funny and serious. The returning characters get even more fleshed out and we find a shadowy organisation called the Domini getting their claws in a lot of pies. At the beginning of this book heather put a handy dandy catch up blurb or as I call it a 'previously, in the other wolf' (in a Mr movie voice)
It was so helpful to get imersed straight into the story. This book (4th in the wolf series) follows what Lucy did next after being crowned queen andshe has alot riding on her to perform. I am not giving any spoilers away. However I will say the new characters are spot on and Lucy/Esme will always be my queen.
The other wolf series is part of a larger world starting with glimmer of the other. This has been the series that drew me back into reading and has a forever home in my heart. Heather G Harris is an auto buy author for me and an amazing human to boot. If you haven't already read this awesomeness and love urban fantasy, kick ass characters with heart, humour and amazing world building you need to go start now.
Another great book in this series - I think this has been my favourite one so far. Each book just gets better and better and Lucy becomes a much more effective alpha (well now Queen!) who does not rely on fear to control her pack. Instead she shows caring and understanding in order to gain the wolves respect and loyalty, which definitely works in her favour! But that doesn't mean she won't get her hands bloody is she needs to!
So much happened in this book, but essentially Lucy now has to go to the seat of power and gain the Crown of Torr in order to be accepted completely as the Queen of the British Werewolves. Unfortunately, the seat of power is in a sentient house, which seems to be a bit bloody thirsty and on the lands of another rival pack! Those who have tried to enter before have never been seen again, so what will happen to Lucy this time? And if she does survive whatever is in this house, what will all the other alphas, particularly Jimmy Rain, do now?!
Lucy was great in this one - she definitely showed that she was not a wolf to mess about with. And she now has a couple of other problems on her hands, namely her brother Ben, her parents and their understanding of who and what Lucy now is. And who is behind this Domini organisation and who is the mole in her pack for them?
As always Esme was hilarious! I love her lack of understanding of human idioms and how she just comes straight to the point!
I can't wait to read the next book in this series!
And not just for me… I may be sitting pretty, but I can’t help feeling that soon I’ll be sitting dead… Don't miss this werewolf shifter series if you like humour, heart and a strong heroine with a slow burn, loyal-beta fade-to-black romance.
Heather's Notes I don't know why, but I just don't like Lucy as much as I like Jinx. I also really want to read Amber's story. So I feel like I am being forced to read these just to get to the story I really want. Still I will continue to read.
All hail the Queen! With the confirmation of the Great Pack and the Home Counties Pack in her corner, Lucy Barrett is ready to take on her naysayers and those who would have her dead for her title and power. But now that the wolves are on the same wavelength as their humans, things are quite a bit different than they used to be!
With Greg Manners, Lucy’s Beta and mate (sort of), as well as her wolf Esme, Lucy needs to figure out how to survive the coming onslaught, with nothing to worry about. It’s only getting her queendom confirmed by the “Seat of Power”... whatever the hells that is.
Loyalties will be tested, betrayal will be revealed, and suddenly the fact that the black seraph are Pack, always, it going to matter all the more if Lucy is to survive what’s waiting for her at her showdown for the crown.!
Sexy, funny, intelligent, exciting, and with more twists than a bowl of spaghetti, this fourth (finally!) novel in the "Other Realm" sister series, “The Other Wolf” is one I highly recommend. This is a phenomenal book that is incredibly fun, witty, and just the right bit of seductive! Beautifully written, engaging, and something that simply cannot be put down, this is a must-enjoy for any Urban Fantasy reader! Enjoy!
I received a free copy of this E-Book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Firstly, thank you for the recap of Lucy’s previous trilogy, it was much appreciated! It’s been a while since we’ve had a Lucy story, but after a few pages (and the help of the recap) I was back into her journey and world. It was a bit strange, timeline-wise, as I’ve read all the other books in the series (the court ones and Amber’s books) and this is set before those. It didn’t take me long to get my head around that though 😁 We get to reunite with some established characters and meet some new ones, of which, I have to say, the Seat of Power was my fave 🌳 and then the crown 😂 I hope we get to hear more from them. Lucy has her work cut out for her in this instalment - but then, when hasn’t she? - to actually officially become the queen the great pack has proclaimed her as, with various other challenges thrown in to deal with too. As always, Esme had me laughing with some of her comments, I love Lucy’s wolf! I’m not going to write anymore as I’m struggling to not do any spoilers 😆 safe to say that I loved this book - and love that it’s set in England - and it’s great that we only have to wait til October for the next one, then another month for the final (?) one. Definitely something to look forward to going into the darker, colder time of the year 💖
I was so excited to finally be able to read more about Lucy’s story! This book picks up right where the last book left off. Lucy has awoken the Great Pack and is now considered the Queen of the UK packs. But as wonderful as one might believe that is, it’s nothing but a huge target on her back. The Council has arrived at the mansion and with it brought enemies to her home. And what would Lucy’s life be without a little murder? Because of course another werewolf is found murdered on the property. But a dead body isn’t the most important thing on her plate! She must go to the seat of power and retrieve the Crown of Torr. This is another amazingly fun read! As usual, once I put it down I couldn’t stop! Lucy and Esme are such a hilarious duo and I love the way Esme takes everything so darn literal! I think she’s my favorite character (even though I love them all!) And some of the new additions are going to be just a wonderful! And Lucy is learning from her past mistakes and is finally figuring out just brutal the Other can be. Luckily, she can be too when she needs to! This book takes place during the same time as the Other Realm Court series so it was fun to get Lucy’s side of some things we already know from Jinx! And in case you haven’t read the series for awhile or have a hard time remembering, there is a wonderful recap in the beginning to get you back up to speed!
This is Book #4 and a continuation of the werewolf series featuring Lucy & Esme as the main characters. I really enjoyed this book because there is the perfect amount of history provided to make sure you are up to speed on the most important things.
I'm a big fan of Lucy because she has been growing braver and more self- confident as a person, but also a better and more-respected leader and is peoving to be a wonderful Queen...not to forget Lucy is a huge fan of spreadsheets, just like I am! :)
Lucy has a huge support system and we get to learn more about some of her family and meet new characters too. She has Greg Manners as her 2nd, and boyfriend, but he is so much more.
Are there dead bodies? Heck yeah! There are a lot of neat twists in this book, too, such as sentient objects with great personalities. This book is packed with more info about the Great Pack and I can't wait to read the next one in the series!
I have read every single book by this Author and words are tough to find to describe how truly talented she is. You can't help but relate to, cry for, cheer for, want to date, and literally fall in love with the characters she creates!
Absolutely incredible! I wish there was a way to give more than five stars, because Awakening of the Pack deserves more.
I was already a fan of Lucy and really enjoyed the first books of The Other Wolf series; however, Heather G. Harris really blew things out of the water with Awakening of the Pack. As always, there were plenty of laugh-out-loud funny moments (to my sleeping dog's dismay, actually). This time around, though, Harris made me cry. Multiple times. Sometimes happy tears, sometimes not so happy. There was plenty of action and a few rather interesting plot twists, and the introduction of an AMAZING character, the concept of whom takes world-building to a whole.new.level. And the way Lucy & Esme handled things was gut-wrenching, gritty, and overall phenomenal. The ending? FLABBERGASTED. I'm sure Lucy and Esme and their family (bio and found) will find a solution, but I'm scared of what it will take out of everyone involved.
I keep saying that each new release from Heather G. Harris is my new favorite, but Awakening of the Pack is going to be hard to beat. If the follow-up books stay in this vein, Lucy may even end up edging out Amber deLea's story as my favorite - and THAT is hard to do!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Heather knocks another one out of the park. So I finished this in one delightful sitting, once again convinced that Lucy (and her wolf Esme) are my favourites. Only I was sure that Amber was my favourite after reading the Other Witch series, only to change my mind and again after Jinx’s latest book. I think the lesson here is everything Heather writes is my favourite. But on to the current favourite and newly made (but not yet crowned) Queen of the Wolves – Lucy. This once picks up right were Lucy’s last book left off,and while Lucy has awakened the Great Pack and been pronounced Queen of the Wolves she still had a battle ahead of her. There are still members of Werewolf Council who are more enemy than ally, a bunch of Alpha males who don’t want bow down to anyone and a mysterious ritual for Lucy to complete (that no-one has survived) before she can be officially crowned. Oh and a new shadowdy groupthe Domini that is threatening her to join them or else. Lucky she has Esme, Greg, her family and friends to help out along with her own indomitable spirit and sass.
I received an ARC but all views expressed are my own.
