That's exactly the gripping atmosphere you'll dive into with Lost in Shadow: A Reign of Shadow book 1 in The World of Hinestra series by ML Wissing.
This book is an incredible read, blending the perfect mix of dark fantasy, mystery, and adventure.
From the first page, I was hooked by its unique world-building and the layers of intrigue woven into the story. It’s the kind of book that keeps you turning the pages late into the night, and trust me, it’s worth every second.
The highlight I loved about this book is how it seamlessly mixes action with emotional depth. The storyline is fast-paced, yet you still feel the weight of the characters' choices and the world they live in.
The author has done a masterful job of creating a world that feels alive, despite being overshadowed by darkness. The way the characters grow and evolve throughout the story is particularly impressive.
This book is a fantastic read for anyone who enjoys immersive fantasy worlds, gripping tension, and a dash of emotional struggle. I found this book to be an experience, not just a story one that lingers long after you finish reading.
The writing is sharp, vivid, and keeps you grounded in a world of shadows and light. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
I wasn't sure what to expect. Quite often I find certain tropes leaned on too much or stories reaching predictable conclusions. While I respect that it's more about the journey, some journeys just don't break into something original. Lost in Shadow is truly unique, breaking free from tropes and ordinary story plots with unique ways of forming both interesting and believable character arcs but the story arc itself never revealed too much of itself until it was the right time. The pacing is beautifully done, not forced. The characters naturally play their part in the story and reflect accurately upon what's happening. It's all so incredibly believable and immersive. This is helped by the authors deliberate and precise method of describing things, and overall the story being genuinely an interesting one to get in to.
I am giving Lost In Shadow 4.25 stars! This book is a coming of age fantasy that features 4 POVs! This is a first in a new fantasy series.
I overall loved the book. The beginning was a tad “slow” for my usual reads, but it did not take long for it to pick up. This book very much gives me Eragon and Lotr vibes in terms writing and fantasy. There are interesting creatures and a unique society within this book. The front of the book contains pages of information to help understand the language and the society!
I loved reading this book! It's a fantasy world but feels so real. She's built an entire world with language, culture, and traditions. As a veteran, I appreciated the amount of training and education that happens for some of the characters, and I felt a connection through that. I can't wait for the next book! Congratulations, ML Wissing!!
