Uplifting self-help guide to change your thinking and live a better life If you’ve tried and failed to change the way you think and act, this book is for you. If you need a reminder “There’s nothing so broken that God can’t fix it,” you’ll enjoy reading this self-help guide.
And if you’re comfortable with your life despite the nagging suspicion that you’ve yet to reach your full potential, this book is for you.
Our childhood experiences shape our actions and thoughts towards ourselves and others. How often have you heard or said, “I’ll never be like my parents”? And then you act exactly like them. This book’s foundation is the idea you can be different from your parents. You don’t need to repeat, but can learn from their mistakes.
The book contains two parts. In Part One, Shyra highlights twenty childhood experiences that could affect your physical, psychological, and spiritual health. I recognized four that resonated with me. She then unpacks limiting self-beliefs and generational patterns that affect us and those around us.
In Part Two, she offers practical steps on how to take responsibility and own your choices. It’s hard to accept that the person who hurt you may never admit, take responsibility, or apologize for their actions. But that’s a necessary step towards healing and one that I embraced.
What I enjoyed most about this book is the hope it offers. Shyra writes from personal experience and has a spiritual perspective. She uses scriptures and examples from people in the Bible. And she doesn’t sugar-coat the introspection and work it will take for change to happen.
It is easy to read and understand. The tone is conversational and empathetic. Best of all, her practical tips are doable. They are not easy, but within everyone’s reach. If you don’t live your life within a spiritual framework, it might tempt you to pass it up. But the practical tips apply to everyone. Keep an open mind.
If you’re tired of trying or have lost hope, reconsider. If you’d like to live life as the best you, this book is for you. Read it through, mark what stands out to you, and return to it as a useful reference guide. It’s a great investment in your personal growth. I received an ARC from Reedsy Discovery and liked it so much that I bought a copy.
Shyra Smith’s Anew: Living Life As A Better You is a truly transformative and calming read. The book gently guides the reader through healing from past traumas, breaking generational patterns, and embracing a renewed sense of self. Its foundation in spirituality and practical steps offers a well-rounded approach to personal growth.
What captivated me most was Smith’s writing style—so sweet, calm, and soothing. Her tone feels like a comforting conversation, making it easy to connect with the stories and examples she shares. At times, I found myself identifying with the struggles and journeys she describes, which made the experience all the more personal and impactful.
The incorporation of scripture and reflective exercises helped me feel grounded and gave me practical tools for navigating life’s challenges. This book doesn’t just talk about change—it inspires you to embrace it.
Sometimes there are books that just say, "It'll be ok. Just believe..." I can't get into those because I can't believe in the author. This is a well paced conversation with the reader and their thoughts. A faith based journey with enough bible and enough earthly experiential wisdom to make you think and be motivated to evolve into the best self that you want to be.
This book can be a great starting point for someone who has experienced trauma, is facing a life transition, looking for guidance or the “where do I go from here?” The real-life examples can help readers relate to perhaps similar experiences in their own lives. And, the Bible quotes and scriptures also point readers in the right direction, as far as guidance and affirmations.
We all have baggage from our childhood which we drag along with us throughout adulthood. Ms Smith helps up to unpack that baggage, to understand our limiting beliefs and our negative self-talk. She patiently guides the reader through ways to reveal who they really are and how they can love themselves.
