Chloe Taylor has just escaped an abusive relationship with her ex-boyfriend, Jackson Thomas. When her parents suddenly die, Chloe is left alone without the support system that she depended on. Trying to leave her past behind and start anew she moves to New York City to live with her best friend and old college roommate (Ava Montgomery). Starting a new chapter in her life she tries to regain control and move forward. In a fated meeting, she literally crashes into Ryan Chase, a successful business man who has a playboy past and has made sure that he was never emotionally tied to any woman. Ryan has done an excellent job with never getting tied down to one woman. But, upon seeing the gorgeous brunette, Ryan realizes that Chloe is the one for him and he does everything in his power to capture her heart. Although reluctant at first, Chloe soon finds that Ryan is the one man who can help her move forward, put her ugly past behind her, and protect her from the looming danger.
Really loved this book. I was glad to see that Chloe could overcome the past events that had taken place in her life and let Ryan in her heart. I enjoyed the suspense aspect of the book as well and look forward to how that plays out in the next book. I know things will not be easy for them, especially as new things come to light regarding the actions of her ex-boyfriend and his politician father. I was so glad to see Chloe stand up to her ex-boyfriend's mother and not just remain passive and allow them to continue to treat her as if she is the cause of Jackson's issues. This shows that she is healing and is accepting that it is not her fault. I think having Ryan and Ava in her life helped her to get to that place. Their support for her is unconditional and unwavering and to have people in her life who are strong and willing to support her and love her through these tragedies and events will unquestionably be the key to moving past the pain and learning to learning to love herself again.
I will say that having coupled up all of the friends seems to be a dramatic situation waiting to happen that could place Chloe in an uncomfortable spot. This along with the other women who seem to want to get their claws into Ryan by any means necessary, including, putting Chloe down and making her question her worthiness of Ryan's love will no doubt cause some friction in their relationship. I hope Chloe finds the strength to hold her head up high and realize that Ryan loves her and what others say and do does not matter, and even putting a second thought into anything any of these women say is not worth her time or emotional drain these women put her through.
I can't wait until the next book to see what happens next!
