New to Leslie? Readers suggest starting with 'The Bossy One' (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C6BP3BBF) —Imagine a sunny Minnesotan Mary Poppins, employed by a grumpy Irish billionaire. The story is a blend of humor, revenge, passion, heartbreak, hope, and witty banter. As one reader put it, ‘This story had me squealing at the romantic moments and silly moments.’
Leslie North is the USA Today Bestselling pseudonym for a critically-acclaimed author of romantic comedies and contemporary romance. The anonymity allows her to fully express her creativity, especially in the romantic and fun sexy scenes!
In fact, she confesses to loving her fictional persona, Leslie North, more than her everyday self! Her bestselling books are known for their strong characters, particularly women who aren’t afraid to challenge an alpha bosshole. And the humor? So infectious, you’ll be laughing out loud in public!
Leslie’s love for romance began when she picked up a worn-out romance book from her local library. She started writing soon after, and as they say, the rest was history. She now resides in a cozy cottage on the British coast, enjoying long walks with her two Dalmatians, George and Fergie.
She LOVES reader feedback, and if you have any comments, don’t hesitate to contact her!
I so enjoyed this romance. I could not stop giggling through the story. Declan is definitely grumpy and wasn't so nice to Olivia when they first met. Though to be fair, Olivia was a bit clueless in the beginning and a tad annoying. However once you get to know her, she is an absolute sweetheart. These two are like oil and water, but start to grow on one another. I found this book entertaining so fun to read.
I received a free advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my fair and honest review.
I liked the FMC on this one, especially her resilience and stubbornness. The MMC however, is extremely problematic. He's got a bunch of issues which he mostly solves by the end of the story, but every time he deals with them, FMC has to bear with the consequences which I don't think is ideal for any relationship. I didn't see any attraction between the MCs except sexual attraction and don't see why or how they love each other with such a messy relationship.
I appreciate that the author goes over many past demons on the MMC's side and I would've preferred if he could have resolved them on his own without hurting so many of those around. I don't understand how he gets so affected when FMC keeps something from him for all the right reasons yet he can ask so much of her and not tell her things that he absolutely should.
His Reasons To Change - The first meeting between Declan and Olivia didn’t go well, but fate brought them back together again, when Olivia needed a job and Declan needed a nanny. Even though Olivia thought Declan was a grumpy sourpuss and Declan felt Olivia was a know it all, who poked her nose where it wasn’t wanted, spending time together brought them closer and led them to embark on a mutually beneficial sexual relationship.
Getting closer allowed Declan to help Olivia strive to achieve the dreams she was apprehensive to pursue. Unfortunately, their path to happiness didn’t run smooth because of their differences in a few important issues, which led to Olivia’s decision to walk away. As luck would have it, time away from each other made them realise they couldn’t live without each other and took steps towards getting their their happiness together.
This was a really amazing story, that had me totally transfixed with each page turn and a twist that I never saw coming. This is a definite must read book, that every avid romance reader needs to read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
The plot was extremely predictable, and everything I thought would happen did happen, as confirmed by skimming ahead.
To be fair, I went into this knowing the trope would make it predictable, so I can’t say I’m surprised or disappointed—it’s exactly what I expected. In hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have started reading it in the first place, as I already knew it wasn’t going to work for me.
Declan and Olivia were not fans of each other when they first met, but as fate would have it, Olivia winds up being an available nanny when Declan needs on for his daughter. He's grumpy and full of issues, and she is stubborn and opinionated. As Declan and Olivia get closer, he works on his issues and realizes that he doesn't dislike her at all. There are bumps along the way in their love story, and Olivia decides to walk away. Can Declan win her back or is it too late?
I enjoyed this cute romance. I really liked how fierce and stubborn the main character was when it came to what she thought was right. Declan has his issues, but he resolves them by the end. I enjoyed the development of the characters, and I found myself entertained while reading this one.

What a great book! It is so much more than that you’d expect! It takes off right from the start; the author takes you along for the ride and you can't put the book down! And there are so many layers to it - amazing! It's not just about a billionaire who needs a nanny; the story has multiple angles and sub plots, storylines that will keep your attention. Some of the sub plots are obvious but you are so invested in the characters that you want to know how that’s going to play out. The story is fun, sweet, intriguing, exciting, entertaining, funny and moving. There’s love, loss, heartbreak, grief, vulnerability, revenge, forgiveness, hope, second chances and how to deal with what life throws at you and always trying to grow. I love that not everything is black and white. Not in relationships, not in things that are difficult and different people struggle with different issues and come up with different solutions. Put all of that together in a new relationship between a man and a woman, and you see that it takes hard work to figure out stuff. I loved that the author perfectly inserted this in the book!
Maybe this was how you built a relationship. You just kept making it up to each other, coming back together, patching over cracks, for as long as you possibly could. Even if it was messy. Even if it was humbling.
And I always love that the main characters love bookshops and love to read. What I didn’t like: all the swearing. Why would you add that? You can be a confident adult without swearing. And there’s one mention of masturbation, which I would delete as well. But despite that, the book gets a solid five star rating. It really is a marvelous book. I loved the beginning. I loved Catie. She is just adorable, I loved her and her cookies! I loved Snug - not just the name (but nonetheless sooo much better than some other name some tech giant came up with!) I loved that Olivia and Declan both are good people but I liked that they misunderstood each other at first and I loved the link with the film ‘You’ve got mail’. It simply great fun, it's my favorite film! But the book is not a copy of that movie. It is so much more. I loved that both Olivia and Declan are flawed, and they both were right in pinpointing each other‘s shortcomings and expecting more. It really is a story with a lot of depth! I know I said ‘I loved’ a lot, but most of all I love that the book wasn’t “problem, problem, fixed, happy, the end” but that they grew and developed as a person, that they gradually became better versions of themselves and then were ready for their happily ever after together. I am so happy because the conclusion doesn’t disappoint, it leaves you fulfilled and happy with how it played out. I really enjoyed the book a lot, and I will go and buy my own copy as soon as the book is published. I can highly recommend that get your own copy, you will not be disappointed! I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
P.S. A little spelling error: shouldn’t the sentence The word was an ending, but it was a beginning to.” be: The word was an ending, but it was a beginning, too. ?
I'm new to Arcs & I've read 5? 8? this year. After the last one I read, I never wanted to read another arc again. I was DONE with arcs.
Then I read The Bossy One. This romance novel, with its cheesy cover, had me SURE they'd be banging each other by page 2. I was SURE it was going to suck like the others.
THIS BOOK WAS FANTASTIC!!
Not one of the arcs I'd read previously pulled me into the story as much as this romance. I read this book in 3 hrs. I was hooked.
This was a slow burn romance with on page spice. The story flowed, I liked the characters, the tropes didn't out stay their welcome & the initial editing was done well.
What I didn't like?
This is a male/female romance & I prefer queer romances. However, I still enjoyed this one. I would have liked the characters to ask for consent more during sex scenes. I didn't understand why the phrase "straight women" had to be used twice. It felt off. It could benefit from another edit to fix word usage & spelling errors.
Final thoughts: If you want a slow burn romance with a good story, this is perfect. I highly recommend it!!
Thank you to netgalley & the publisher for an e arc.
At first, I really didn’t like Declan as he seemed to be an arrogant jerk. Declan is going to Minnesota to pick up his niece because his sister, Sinead needs to go into rehab, so he is taking Catie back to Ireland for two months, while she does that. Since his business partner was using their plane, he went economy and no one believed he was who he was, because he is rich and started Snug. I guess it’s like Snapchat. The person sitting in the seat next him is a sunshiny, chatterbox woman named Olivia who is a nanny who had just been fired. She always does what is best for the child, even tho that’s not what the parent or guardian wants, so she gets fired.
So, she gives him a card for the nanny service she works for. Since he thinks he will need one for Catie. I love that little girl, but the fact that she likes worms so much freaks me out a little. EW. Catie comes up with questions that need to be answered in such a way so that she has someone she believes she will connect to, and the only nanny available is…. You guessed it- Olivia! Lol. Declan is a bit upset about it, but Olivia really does get along with Catie really well.
Years ago, when Declan was a teen, his father was killed by a drunk driver, and the guy got away with murder. Not one person did anything to that guy. So, Declan swore to get his revenge and after almost half his life, he is finally going to get his revenge. Although, no one else really knows what Declan truly wants to do. His friend and lawyer, Thomas Maher is trying to help him gain the one thing that would act as revenge- gaining the mansion of the man who killed his father.
So much happens in this book. I really want to hit Declan a lot in this book. I only want to smack Olivia once and another time I wanted to bop her. Poor Catie is only 6 and she is going through so much with her mother away. There are quite a few reveals having to do with Declan and Olivia’s Snug accounts. I laughed over that quite a bit.
I wouldn’t have forgiven Declan as many times as Olivia did, honestly. I don’t care how much you love someone, at some point you have to make a line you won’t cross. But, I know it’s a book and that line is where the author wanted it. It’s a great story and it has some awesome parts in it. Catie is adorable and sweet and I just wanted to hug and cuddle her throughout the book. I hope that there is more stories with these characters in them.

Oh boy Declan will make you want to really slap him upside the head really hard one good time …just one though 😊 sexy as all get out billionaire, doesn’t like anyone in particular, so when he have to fly to pick up his niece because his sister needs to go into rehab and flying on a regular plane instead of his private plane yep he get stuck sitting next to Ms. Sunshine who won’t hush so he learns her name, she is a nanny who was just fired because she did what was best for the child despite what the parent/grandparent/guardian thought the child comes first. Olivia is so sweet, loves kids, they are attracted to her because she pays attention to them, she listens to them, but right now she is sitting next to a man who is such a grump with a glare on at everyone but that didn’t stop her from giving him her card. So, when he needs a nanny for his niece and seeing she is the only nanny he gives her a call. The moment the two meet his niece Catie and Olivia meet they get along well but she does wonder why Declan is so grumpy. Declan is bitter from when his father was murder by a drunk driver who was never punished, and he has allowed revenge to lead and guide him for so long trying to take it out in any way possible with help of a few friends, but he needs something more to focus on besides his revenge. The attraction is intense between the two of them so much, so they are at each other they butt head with how to handle Catie, then they challenge each other on almost everything but that is what allows them to grow the fighting draws him to her and her to him. Declan comes to enjoy Olivia’s sunny open personality and her honesty. He is so used to her sunny disposition that he takes notice when she is sad, he notices and does sweet things for her just for a small smile but that isn’t enough they allow what they have gone through in the past to affect what they are going through causing them to go their separate ways, finding common ground proves to be too difficult so quitting to work on her writing because her reason for walking away but she can’t get him out of her head, her dreams, he can’t get her out his head, his dreams yet neither wants to reach out so will she write her first book, will he reach out for the sake of his niece, will they learn to be open, honest with each other, can he take the sunshine every day, can she take the grumpiness every day, and can they find happiness together?
This was my first book by this author. I did the audiobook and the narrators were new to me as well. Loved the Irish accent. 🥰 I’m a sucker for grumpy/sunshine. This one is a billionaire/nanny romance. He’s extra grumpy. She’s a nanny who had lost many jobs because of disagreeing with parents. She only ever has the best of intentions for these kids. They have a chance meeting on a plane, where they both don’t leave the best impressions of each other. He is in need of a nanny for his niece he’s on his way to pick up. She gives him a card for the company she works for. Not n a million years does he think they will ever see each other again!!! This book has some unexpected surprises along the way and I really enjoyed every moment of it. I will be looking for book 2 once it’s on audio!!
Leslie North has written another great read. He is a grump and she is sunshine. The butting of the heads leads to some hot chemistry. The characters draw you in and hold you to the end.

I loved this audiobook. Narrator Sean Masters has a sexy, smooth, deep Irish accent. Listening to him is super hot. Suzanne T. Fortin was a perfect fit as the female nemesis narrator. I liked how Olivia stayed strong and stood up for herself against the stubborn, boorish billionaire Declan Burn.
Declan Byrne is a billionaire and co-creator of Snug, a social media platform, but is having a bad day trying to get to a tiny place called Faribault-Northfield, Minnesota to pick up his niece Catie (8) as his sister Sinead is finally going to get some help for her issues with alcohol and put herself into a rehab which he is paying for. He needs to bring Catie back to Ireland where he lives and works, thankfully most of it can be done from home, but their offices are in Dublin, a couple of hours away from the tiny village of Ballybeith where his home is. He meets the overly chatty and annoying Olivia St James on the plane for the last leg of his journey, as she is returning home after being sacked from her job as a nanny for another family, hired through Sunny Days Childcare. She is on her last chance with the agency and reckons this last job will see her removed from their books at long last. She seems to have lots of issues with parents who don’t put their child’s best interests at heart, ignoring the nanny’s years of expertise with children! She is a nervous flyer, hence her talking non-stop, which is something she does a lot of anyway! He gives up on trying to get any rest and ends up asking her advice about hiring a nanny and she passes on a card for the company she works for. They will send him a questionnaire and then send him details of any suitable nannies who match his requirements.
Both faced tragedy at a young age, which changed how they looked at the world going forward. Declan lost his father to a drunk driver in the local village and has sworn to get his revenge against the man and his family, after no punishment was meted out to the man responsible! This has left him very driven and looking to gain a certain outcome, never mind how it might affect others! Catie comes up with some very unusual requirements for a nanny to look after her for the two months of the summer holidays and not surprisingly, Olivia is the only match! Declan tells her that he is hiring her only until he can get a more suitable nanny for Catie, but she and Catie get on like a house on fire straight from the get go. Declan isn’t used to looking after any children and has no worries about money so insists that Olivia takes Catie into Galway, rather than into the local village, to look around the shops and buy her anything she wants! He doesn’t see the need to structure to Catie’s days or a proper diet, allowing her to eat any sweet desserts and treats she wants! Since Olivia knows she is on her last chance with the agency, she has to bite her tongue and keep quiet whenever she disagrees!
She makes friends with the owner of the bookshop they visit regularly, Molly, and Olivia’s blog on kids picture books brings a useful side storyline between her and Declan. One sticking point comes about when Declan sees her being friendly with the son of his arch enemy and he warns her off speaking to any of the O’Rourke clan. The O’Rourke mansion is on the top of the hill above the village and was used for the filming of an old 70’s film, The Deer and the Warrior, which makes the village a pull for tourists and brings in extra income. Declan tries interviewing another nanny and thinks initially that she would be perfect, only to realise she is agreeing with everything he says, definitely not the sort of person he needs! Declan and Olivia have a few fireworks early on and matters go awry, but they soon get back on board together and he begins to listen a little to what she suggests is best for Catie and not fight her on every issues, nor she him. Feelings of attraction have been there from the start and Olivia knows she should remain professional, but that Irish accent just does it for her and she can’t resist! They get hot and steamy until another issue causes them problems, seemingly too stubborn about wanting his revenge to listen to anything about Seamus O’Rourke and why he wants to speak to him urgently! Lots of additional storyline and filler to keep the reader interested and makes it so much more than just a romance. A thoroughly enjoyable read and made me want to visit a small village in Ireland and hear the Irish brogue being spoken. I look forward to seeing what will come next from the author as each is always an enjoyable escape from reality for a few hours. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above
The Bossy One is such a compelling, complex, and even complicated story… in all the best ways, that is. In a stand-alone romance (one that’s not stand-alone within a series), I’m drawn to those slightly complex stories of family and more than only the hero and heroine to get to know. And Olivia, along with Declan and Catie, certainly gave me some emotional moments in their story.
Declan is a self-made billionaire. But that doesn’t mean he gets to go through life without a care. His sister has admitted herself to a rehab center to deal with a problem that’s gotten out of control, and in doing so, she will heal herself with help but also put her precious daughter, Catie, into Declan’s care for the summer. Being a loving uncle, that’s not a problem at all – but being a bachelor and needing someone to care for Catie while he’s working is. The solution? A live-in nanny. And it turned out that the nanny he’s hired is certainly far from what he expected.
Olivia is a good nanny, she loves caring for kids – it’s the parents who just won’t listen to her or to their kids that she cannot stand. Perhaps that’s why she’s so often fired from those positions. She’s been given one last chance to prove herself by heading to Ireland to care for a child through a very specific checklist that describes Olivia perfectly. She’s a nervous flyer, a chatter by nature, and, unfortunately, her flight seatmate isn’t at all impressed. Too bad that the first impression she gave her new employer was of that nervous, not-at-her-best flyer, for who knew that she’d be seated right next to the man she’d be working for? Life is about to get interesting for Declan and Olivia in ways that they cannot even imagine.
There are so many layers to The Bossy One that I’m not even going to try to cover them in this review. Loving uncle – loving brother – fierce businessman- holder of grudges – slow to admit that he’s wrong… all describe Declan. He’s slowly discovering who Olivia is under that professional, at times maddening personality, and the more he discovers, the more he’s acknowledging the attraction between them. Their romance is going to go through some rough moments before it all smooths out into a happily-ever-after ending.
This is a story that will bring out so many emotions in a reader, along with some laughter, some anger, and some appreciation for some steamy moments as well. Their love story is complicated, sometimes by themselves, and it will take a bit of growth and compromise before they’ll admit their true feelings. I loved watching their story unfold and the additional people we’ll meet in this story. There are lessons to be learned, some sigh-worthy moments, and a really good story to devour. Not going to give away much – but I loved this one and would highly recommend it to any reader who loves a well-written, complicated romance.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the author or author’s team via Booksprout, and I sincerely thank them for their trust. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
“The Bossy One” is a grumpy-sunshine, age-gap romance with interesting characters. It combines the expected and the unexpected in an entertaining story.
Declan is a wealthy businessman based in Ireland, with a problem not easily solved. His beloved sister needs serious care for an addiction problem, and she get it she needs Declan to take care of her eight-year-old daughter. His sister and his niece currently live in America. There’s nothing he won’t do for either of them, but he realizes that he can’t do it without a live-in nanny. After a flight on a commercial airliner next to a crazy woman passenger, Declan can’t imagine things could get much more stressful – but hes wrong. He returns to Ireland with his niece and an unusual nanny in tow. Thankfully, he has a dear friend on the social media platform he co-owns, and she helps him stay level-headed through everything.
Olivia puts her whole heart into her career as a nanny. Unfortunately, that tends to get her into trouble when the parents to employer don’t remember to treat their children with the love and respect they deserve. Olivia will never not stand up for a child. Getting the job as nanny to Declan’s niece is critical to her continued employment by the nanny agency through which she gets her jobs. But it's awfully hard to keep her mouth shut when Declan makes choices that aren't in the best interests of his niece. Olivia is grateful she has an online best friend with whom to discuss her frustrations and more.
There is a lot of unexpected depth in this story. The main characters each grow and develop throughout the book, and so does their relationship. There are several subplots that are engaging and add even more depth to the book. The secondary characters are well-crafted and also make reading this book a richer experience. I appreciated the quality of the dialogue, the emotions in the story, and the heartfelt conclusion.

I have to say I am huge a fan of Leslie's book and this one doesn't disappoint.
Olivia is having a bad day when she boards the flight upon which she meets Declan. Having been fired from her latest nanny position after trying to protect her ward from crazy patients who gave their child an ulcer, she is angry and having do what she hates - get on an aeroplane. 'Why employee a nanny if you aren't going to listen to their expertise'.
Declan gets the unenviable task of having her assigned to sit next to him, whilst his only concern is getting to his sister so he can take care of his niece. He wants to sit quietly, catch up some sleep maybe, not listen to her constant talking and rants. Walking away from her as they land, he feels that not seeing her again is a good thing. He just wants to concentrate on Catie.
Neither of them is therefore prepared when he waits at the airport for Catie's temporary nanny and see Olivia.
Olivia has a sunny personality and Declan is grumpy, bossy guy who runs a very successful tech company. Both strong characters, wanting what is best for Catie but disagreeing on what this is. Their working relationship is a constant battle, but despite this a fierce attraction is building.
This is an easy read, which although funny at times, touches on some sensitive issues and with their stubborn personalities keeps the pages turning. Olivia is to be admired because she will never back down in her fight to do what is right for the chidren in her care and is willing to lose her job over her actions rather than be a parent pleaser. Declan is great at running his company but is lost when it comes to boundaries for his niece. Throw in a secret text friendship and you have a great read.

Declan is rich, grumpy and stubborn as hell. He has a short fuse but a big heart for those who he loves - his family so when his sister asks for help looking after his niece Catie he jumps at the chance. On the flight to collect his niece he meets Olivia - she’s his opposite - chatty, flustered, sunshine even though she’s having a bad day having just been fired from her most recent Nanny position, an irritating flight later and Declan inadvertently ends up hiring Olivia to be Catie's Nanny.
Leslie did a great job with the characterisation throughout the book. Even just reading Olivia’s dialogue you could feel when she was rambling and flustered much to Declan’s annoyance. It was easy to see that she meant the best for the children in her care and the people around her even if the parent’s didn’t always agree. Although Declan wasn’t a parent he had a lot to learn and he wasn’t the most approachable about things, often being unable to see where he was wrong meaning the two main characters spent a lot of time at loggerheads before entering into a slow burn romance.
Whilst some moments of the book fit the typical Single Man/Nanny trope there was an added side-plot which added an extra element to the story that really helped to see a different side to both of the characters and I enjoyed the twist of it. The constant push and pull of the relationship between Olivia and Declan was frustrating for the characters, but with the dual POV it was easy to understand why the arguments were happening, even if it was clear as a reader who was in the wrong. That didn’t stop me from wanting to chase an elusive happy ending.
There were some fantastic sideline characters such as Marie, Molly and Catie who helped both characters to realise their mistakes and grow, both apart and together. Even the hint of characters who could go on to have their own story.
Nanny and boss is not a new concept but Leslie North has managed to put a wonderful new spin on this one. The plane journey was horrendous on both counts, Billionaire Declan Byrne was having to fly coach class because it was the quickest way to get to his sister and his six year old niece. Declan's sister, Sinead, had fled from her beautiful Irish home to find peace and quiet in the US but she had sought comfort in the bottle, she desperately needed rehab, Declan was going to take his niece, Catie, back to Ballykeith to stay with him............he would need a nanny. Beautiful, freckled, red head, Olivia was on the same plane, after a struggle with the overhead locker and delaying the plane, much to Declan's frustration, she plonked herself into the next seat to him. Declan was grumpy, worried about his sister and niece, Olivia was nervous of flying, had just been sacked from her fifth, and last chance, nannying job and she wouldn't stop talking........this was a match made in heaven. This story unfolds in a very amusing way and obviously Olivia becomes Catie's nanny. In the beginning, Olivia, knowing that she is drinking at the last chance saloon, tries to go against her principles and lets the guardian set the boundaries, which in this case was no boundaries, but a very wise, on line friend, advised her to put the child's welfare first. Fight after fight occurred but Olivia stood by what she thought was best for Catie. The sub plots that run parallel to the main story line also add lots of drama and of course the attraction between the beautiful red head and the handsome Irishman with the lilting voice led to arguments, confessions, uncovered secrets and a deep, deep passion. I really enjoyed this story.

This is a surprisingly lovely story: the slow burn, the ups and downs of trying to figure out “love me or love me not”, the small Irish town dynamics. All so fascinating. Declan and Olivia are two very strong characters. Starting off the wrong foot on a flight to Minnesota, Declan got a tip to find a good nanny from Olivia. And Olivia is the only one that fits the bill for his niece Catie. She just got fired and is desperate for a job. So she flied to Irland with Declan and Catie – this time in a private jet. Declan seems so grumpy and strict, but he has a heart of gold, even full of revenge for his father. Olivia has been on this live-in nanny job for the riches for a few years, so she is very experienced with a sunny disposition to deal with the children in her care and the parents. But Declan is not like any regular parent. They butt head with how to handle Catie, then they challenge each other on almost everything. Declan comes to enjoy Olivia’s sunny open personality. When Olivia is sad, he notices and does sweet things for her. The mutual attraction finally leads them to sex. Declan encourages Olivia to pursue her passion for writing children’s books and Olivia shows Declan collaboration is better than fights. The plots get more complicated. It turns out they have been friends for months virtually via Olivia blog. Their past baggage and fear come between them. They break up because they are both stubborn and can’t find the common ground. Declan sends Olivia away, but both are miserable. Olivia finds the courage to quit the nanny job and goes after her creative writing. Declan finds an alternative to get his revenge and benefit everyone in the meantime. One thing I will say is that Catie is one lucky six-year-old to have so many people love her. I enjoy the story.
Obviously I don’t know anything about Billionaires (or Nannies for that matter), but this story seemed pretty realistic on a “boy meets girl”, reactionary level.
Olivia is a Nanny. She comes across as very opinionated and when we first meet her, we can totally relate to Declan’s reaction and opinion to her!
Declan is a man on a mission when we first meet him, which is why he’s “slumming it” in Economy Class.
It would be cute how they rub each other up the wrong way, grateful to never have to see each other again, meet up again and vow to endure each other (after all it’s only for 2 months), argue, leave, return, argue, leave, if it wasn’t all so very realistic!
This story is engaging and draws you in! She’s far more irritating than he is, but he IS Bossy and intractable, until he’s not…
A good story line about 2 vulnerable people, who are supposed to be the “responsible adults” for a 6 year old girl. What could possibly go right!
I listened to the audiobook version of this title. This was well narrated by Sean Masters and Suzanne Fortin, although I preferred his narration better than hers and felt that he could have carried the entire story on his own. He has a lovely voice.
I was given this audiobook free, for an honest review. I expected to enjoy it, but I didn’t realise how much I would do so.
Very relatable and engaging characters. The author has another title “The Grumpy One” which unfortunately is not (yet?) on audio. When it comes out, I’d definitely listen to it.
💙 He disfrutado bastante esta lectura.
I haven’t read a Leslie North book in a while, but I have to say, The Bossy One really resonated with me. Readers can learn important life lessons from her characters’ messy situations, their families, their child-rearing techniques, and their love. Professional Nanny Olivia St. James keeps getting fired from her job because she always strives to protect the children from crazy, misguided parents. Tech guru and uncle, Declan Bryne, is trying to care for his niece while his sister is in rehab for alcoholism. His child-care methods are not the best which directly conflicts with Olivia’s. The manner in which North’s plot is written creates a serendipitous overlay of their lives. These two are fated to be together. The interactions in the narrative are funny, touching, and sometimes sad because of their strong personalities. I will say that Olivia is admirable because she never backs down in doing what is right for children, though it means losing her job every time; Uncle Declan wants to do what is right for children and family, but he doesn’t know exactly how to manage that. However, he does learn thanks to Olivia, and along the way, readers learn a thing or two as well. The irony in the story is that the nanny service was glad to see Olivia resign as one of their employees; they said “good riddance”; evidently, she wasn’t a parent-pleaser. LOL. If you are like me and haven’t read a North book lately, choose this one; it’s really good.
I could not put this book down! Talk about sparks and sizzle…Declan and Olivia should be surrounded by flames. At first, they irritate and annoy each other to no end. It is his love for his young niece Catie that convinces him to hire her as a nanny, even after she blabbed about being fired numerous times from her past nanny positions. His niece took an instant liking to Olivia and even Declan can admit that Olivia wants only the best for a child in her care. He realizes that she is brave for taking a stand because she has a huge heart that is centred on the child in her care, in this case young Catie. Declan also finds her far too attractive for his own good and finds himself eager to be in her presence then fantasizing about her far too often. Despite the clashes, the firing then hiring her again, the trying to keep his distance, Declan finds he just wants to kiss Olivia. He finally gets his chance and both find that they can’t go back to being just boss and employee. Unfortunately, these two have a variety of secrets, guards around their hearts and trust issues so moving forward is decidedly bumpy and unpredictable.
All in all, Olivia and Declan’s story is rather angsty with both hilarious and tender moments. It includes a few twists as well yjatvit make all the more entertaining and mesmerizing. I received a copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
So, overall, I did enjoy this. The chemistry between Olivia and Decland was good, and I thought parts of the plot had real depth to them. I like how things resolved and that they both had to work to come to terms with their pasts to get together. The sex scenes were hot and well-written.
However, I never fully warmed to either character. Declan in particular was very irritating and came across as incredibly selfish, whilst Olivia just grated on me at times. But my main issue with the book was the length. It felt way too long and over-padded. It became a bit repetitive. The conflict was rehashed again and again – it felt like they had the same argument (and resolution) multiple times over the course of the book.
Overall, there was a lot to like about this book and it was fairly solid. I just felt the book as a whole suffered from having too much content and would have been better if it had been trimmed down a little. I will be reading more from this author in the future though.
My Review: The Bossy One by Leslie North is a contemporary, gen-fic romance. It features a grouch and his polar opposite.
About the Book: An Irish billionaire and a Minnesotan nanny are seatmates on a flight. They immediately rub each other the wrong way. Although they part with the assumption that they will never meet again, fate had them cross paths soon after their initial meeting. The funny thing about their relationship though...they had met before.
My Final Say: The Irishman certainly met his match with the straight talking American. It was interesting watching them find their footing with each other. They went from butting heads to something much deeper. As they worked to deal with their own personal issues, they grew toward one another. There was an element of sweetness to the overall story, even as it dealt with some serious issues.
Other: This was a story about family, loss, recovery, healing, reconciliation, and love. Readers who enjoy stories about the aforementioned should like this book.
Rating: 3.5/5 Recommend: Yes Audience: A Status/Level: 👍
Thanks to the author, to the publisher (Relay Publishing), and to NetGalley for granting access to a digital ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review. I am appreciative for the opportunity.
So, it may have been a bit foolhardy to dive straight into my third Leslie North novel in a row. Given that it’s twice the length of my usual reads at a whopping 400+ pages and there may have been some grumbling in the house about missed lunches and dinners. But let me tell you, sometimes size does make a difference😊 There’s no denying that the length of this book allows the author to explore the relationship between Olivia and Declan in much more detail, which in turn brings them closer to the reader and makes you more invested in what happens to them in the story. I loved Olivia’s passionate devotion to ensuring the kids in her care were treated right, even at the expense of her own career. When she first meets Declan neither of them is at their best, yet when circumstances bring them back together and she finds herself working as his nanny, she sees there’s more to the grumpy billionaire than meets the eye. There are a million little things that bring the two closer together, some make you laugh, and you know the rest, but ultimately you feel like you’ve shared a piece of these characters’ lives and it’s time well spent. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
