Get Closer: A Gay Men's Guide to Intimacy and Relationships

Rate this book
Each relationship is as individual as the men who are involved. Rather than rely on a one-size-fits-all approach to relationship success, Dr. Jeffrey Chernin helps each of us to acquire a better understanding of ourselves and how we engage in intimate relationships. In this warm and compassionate guide, Chernin helps us answer the questions we long to answer:

How can I build a long-lasting partnership?
Why am I afraid to get close to someone?
How can I open myself to deeper, more intimate communication?
What can I do to put an end to ongoing fights and stalemates with my partner?
How can I meet someone to share my life with?

Having counseled gay men for more than a decade, Dr. Chernin shows how you, too, can build a strong, lasting relationship. Discover the love and intimacy that await you.

Get Closer focuses on how to find a potential partner, how to be more satisfied in your current relationship, and how to change unhealthy relationship patterns. For some of you, the information will be the final pieces that complete the puzzle of what it takes to be in an intimate relationship. For others, it will serve as a timely reminder of how to go forward.

If this is your first book on intimacy for gay men, I hope it will provide you with a lot of new and useful information. I also hope it inspires you to seek out other resources to take advantage of several perspectives and find additional information on relationships.

Whether it's your first book on relationships or your last, my hope is that by reading this book you'll learn more about relationships by looking at yourself from an objective point of view, yet one that is made more relevant by the author's personal experience. I designed the book to help you develop new insights and discover new tools for a long-term, intimate relationship.

I found this fairly helpful- a more mature take on relationship issues than what I've seen in Youtube relationship advice videos. It's probably more helpful for people who are already in long-term relationships than for people trying to find one, but I think the advice the author offers will help readers avoid some of the pitfalls (or at least begin thinking about some of the pitfalls) they might otherwise find themselves in if they simply go in blind.

This was an OK book. Same stuff repeated as in other "self-help" books. It's all about communication and reconginzing differences- accepting them- instead of trying to change that person to be more like you. There I just saved you a day of reading :)

Sound advice

Sound advice for those in a more ‘traditional’ gay relationship. I personally found it helpful and think others will too.

Worth the read! I wish I read this book before I seriously started dating. I would have been a much better boyfriend.
