"הטקסטים המקובצים באסופה הזאת מבטאים את ניסיונותיהם של עשרה סופרים, ישראלים ושאינם ישראלים, לחרות שריטה חלוצית ברגע המתמשך שאנו שרויים בו, לתת סימנים ראשונים בזמן האמנזי של התאונה." עודד וולקשטיין, פתח דבר

I'm not surprised that I've heard/read nothing about this collection in mainstream literary discourse, although I might have expected more from the Jewish press. Then again, even I had neglected to read it—although I'd downloaded a (free!) English version to my Kindle months ago—until I was reminded of it this week via an email about a stage adaptation. The description is a tad misleading for anyone whose brain automatically translates the words "short stories" into fiction. The vast majority of these pieces by Israeli and American writers—including those by highly esteemed fictionists such as Joshua Cohen and Elisa Albert—read as nonfiction. But go see for yourself. You can download a copy (again, at no charge) in English or Hebrew at https://www.ithl.org.il/article/shelter/. At under 90 pages, this powerful collection won't take you long to read (I'm going to re-read it this week). And then, if you agree with my take that more people should read it, please tell others to do so.

Impressive and moving collection of short works, all dealing with the pain and trauma caused by the horrific happenings of 7 Oct in one way or another.
Everyone is free to think about and process things in their own way. Without making this review a discussion of the broader situation, I personally found the few mentions of the plight of people in Gaza heartening. I felt disappointment with those few instances that painted (all) Arabs as mortal enemies of (all) Jews, ready to pounce if given the opportunity.
