In an unaccustomed burst of organization, I started straightening our cluttered bookshelves the other day. I got as far as the book, "A View from the Corner" by Lew-Ellyn Hughes, and made the mistake of opening it again. Her short chapters are like popcorn...I couldn't stop with just one. The bookshelves are still cluttered, but the tradeoff was a day punctuated with smiles and outright laughter. This book is a joy. You'll find yourself getting copies for your friends - it's a wonderful gift for any occasion. A View from the CornerLew-Ellyn Hughes
I first read this book soon after it was published when I got it as a gift from my sister. I smiled all the way through it. Ms. Hughes has a unique talent of describing small daily pieces of life in a way that makes one just wish they could see life in the same humorous way. This summer, I was spending time with a couple who were going through some serious health issues and finding something to smile about was hard to find. I thought of this book, and called my sister to have her send me another copy. My friend was smiling before the 2nd page. Mission accomplished. Thank you, Ms. Hughes!
Ms Hughes has written a gem of a book. Her quick wit is reminiscent of Erma Bombeck at her finest. Many of the stories are laugh-out-loud funny, others are touchingly humorous, but in all cases, her words resonate and delight. I have read and re-read this selection many times...sometimes reading the book straight through...other times, savoring every carefully chosen word in each story. I've given copies to friends and to my elderly mother who declared it, "Wonderful!" Don't miss this one. Looking forward to more titles from this author.
Ms Hughes has an ingenious talent for finding a bit of humor in life's simple, everyday experiences. Her short stories are delighting and insightful, emitting chorkles to outright laughter from its readers. Whenever I need a pick-me-up I thumb through the pages of this book and I smile every time. Ms. Hughes obviously has a unique great sense of humor, and I anxiously await her next book.
