Port Allen, Texas is about to have a visitor: a category five hurricane named Whitney. But when the survivors crawl from the wreckage of their city, they will face horrors much worse than the storm.
They're cut off from the outside world. A mysterious disease sweeps bloody death through the remaining populace. Faceless commandos prowl the streets, shooting civilians on sight. And from the shadows, a hungry beast drags the innocent into the dark to feed.
Now, a germophobic shut-in, a homeless man, a disgraced cop, and many others must band together to discover the truth about the evil hunting them, and find a way to escape...

This one was way too long (717 pages long according to my Kindle but it felt way longer) and the whole gang aspect just kept becoming cringier and cringier as the situation in town kept becoming more and more dire.
I probably would have liked this book a lot more if we had followed less stereotypes - err characters.
A character having the internal monologue about expecting (like all New Yorker women) that if she was to ever get raped it would be the classier (her word not mine) brand of rape AKA date rape and that she would at least get a meal and drinks first while someone is actively trying to rape her... Excuse me my good sir but WTF? Seriously that would have been ground for immediate DNF if I hadn't already been more than 500 pages in (I came for the cover and stayed for the sunk cost, I guess). That character's internal monologue was so annoying and cringe worthy it really didn't help my quickly fading interest after that point. By the time the ending came around I really no longer cared about any of it and just wanted it to be over.
Kindle- Kept me engaged all the way through , I didn’t want to put it down! Great story and characters! Would recommend if you love dooms day kind of plots
This is only The second book by this author I have read and both certainly impressed me.this book kinda feels like the stand which is one of my favorite novels of all time.their are certainly similarities but this book holds up very well on its own.the premise is a hurricane pummels the city of port allen texas and in the immediate aftermath people begin getting sick and a military outfit moves in and they sure as hell don't have the local residents best interests at heart.to compound problems apparently the storm has brought a vicious killing machine up from the very depths of the ocean floor.for those residents who weren't able to evacuate are in for the fight and flight of their lives on multiple fronts.forced to ban together for survival they will have to combat the devastation of the storm, the sickness that seems unavoidable, the military outfit known as aurora and lastly the deadliest of all a sea creature who has the ability to walk upright and devour anything and everything in it's path.

Hurricane Whitney starts a battle in Port Allen. Secrets a Government agency wants to keep hidden and a creature from the depth of the ocean swept in by the hurricane meet some local people who fight to survive this nightmare. Enjoyed this book characters were well written with stories of redemption and sacrifice. Both the best and worst of the human spirit was written in this book and it was a fight to the finish and nonstop action.
Hunker down they told the people that could not evacuate. Afterwards they told them that salvation could be found at the Civic center. Nothing could prepare them for the hell barreling their way full of fury & wrath. Still a small light of hope remained in their dark twisted world.
It's been a while since I wrote a review. All the books were good but just not the effort. This on the other hand held me until I finished in one long read-a-thon. Great action. Endearing characters. Good story line. Great writing. Just couldn't out down. I'm very highly recommend this book.
This is the best author ever. He knows how to get a reader drawn into a believable story that keeps the reader riveted, spellbound, unable to put the book down. This story is good from start to end. Just an awesome read! Not telling you anything. Just read the book.
This has to be one of the most entertaining books I’ve read all year. Natural disasters, secret block ops projects, a totally weird main villain, and oh yeah, a sea monster. What’s not to love?! Definitely adding this to my collection.
What a wild ride this was and so much action I just loved it! This is the first time I have read a book from this author and I am looking forward to reading more.
This book has everything, a creature, A weather disaster, corrupt cops and government, gang bangers, heroes, villains, and a dog. Would make a great 2 hour movie. This is a long, and very intense book! Loved every minute.
I love this author, the 2nd book I've read by him & another one of the best books I've read up to date, l love horror books though. This is a long read but well worth it EXCELLENT 💯💯👌👌😁😁
Honestly, I was already quite bored for whatever reason at only 7% through. Then I got to this:
'An ethnic neighborhood, a melting pot of cultures that separated upper society from the poor, black folks on the east side of town. A buffer so the whites could keep eating their TV dinners and watching their reruns of Friends without having to be reminded whose backs they did it all on.'
Why must authors continue doing this? It's as if I cannot escape anti-whitism unless I read much older book, before weak people were convinced to loathe themselves. I am not fragile; I am just sick of the potshots. I get it. Everyone is on the virtue-signaling bandwagon, but it doesn't mean I have to read it. That passage made my decision easy to dip out on this one.
I have to say that this is one of the best books I've ever read IN MY LIFE!! I have so many emotions running through my head it's overwhelming. This book made me cry, laugh and roar with rage as well as cheer out loud. It was terrifying in SO many different ways. I have barely slept because I didn't want to stop reading. It consumed my mind when I couldn't read and completely absorbed it when I could. I'm kind of sad it's over but after that ride I'm a little relieved! I'm not sure my heart could take much more!! The scariest part about this book is that it could happen. It really makes you think...
This is a monster of a book (and contains a monster) at around 700 pages which is usually outside of my wheelhouse. But I've loved Connor's previous works like "The Jackal man" and especially "Good Neighbors" so I dove in.
There's lots of fun in the pages (I'd call it more adventure-horror than straight horror) with great 80s's style dialogue, a rich tapestry of characters, infectious diseases, green skinned monsters, and a setting that cuts people off from easy salvation.
Impossible to define this genre. You got a shady, maybe government entity. A freak hurricane. Oceanic threats. Bad cops. Failed disaster relief. Diverse personalities and varying goals. Basically, fistful after fistful of plot threads thrown into the weave!
But it works. Highly engrossing read.
CONS: stronger editing needed, but not to the level you want to pull out your hair. Also, a few too-convenient plot points.
well written, I likely would have given it 5 stars, but it became too 'woke' toward the end and if the story continued along the lines of the bulk I wouldn't have commented...I do like your writing style and will continue to read your work thanks for expressing thoughts and ideas, I did enjoy your creativity TB
... It was way too long. My favorite character died and there's no way any earth or marine animal could take that kind of punishment! Also just so unbelievable. On the other hand, it was non stop action!
This book had great promise. The writing was great and enjoyed the characters but (SPOILER) why would you throw a random monster in there? There was no rhyme or reason for it, was never explained, and only (minorly) came into play at the end?
This was riveting from beginning to end and some of the characters would be fantastic in a sequel. Chris, Carter, Hernie, Maryland and Lincoln. Lincoln should have his own series, he was that good, thanks for the excellent adventure!
I would love to see this made into a TV series, there's no way everything could fit into just 1 movie. Everything from sea monsters to Covert government agencies With a ton of drama and action and a dash of romance for spice
I enjoyed this novel. Surprises kept happening and just when I thought I had everything figured out there was a new plot twist. If you enjoy disaster plus conspiracy plus a tiny bit of horror then you will enjoy this book.
The story is good and it could be entertaining but the writing is very confusing. The story jumps from one character to another so fast its hard to follow the story. A good story ruined.
