12 Jackpot (John Lee Quarrels Book 12) by Nick Russell (Author) 4.5 out of 5 stars (96) 4.6 on Goodreads 45 ratings Curtis Darling was without a doubt one of the most annoying men who ever lived in Somerton County, Florida. And given the number of rednecks, racists, wife beaters, petty thieves, drunks, methheads, and other assorted losers who called that part of rural north Florida home, that was saying a lot. Even so, the county was shocked when Curtis and his wife Mary Lou are found brutally slain in their own home.
Who would do such a thing, and why? Was someone finally fed up with Curtis and his constant bragging about how tough he was, or his whining about how he couldn’t catch a break? Did one of the many people he owed money to decide to collect the debt in blood? Or was someone after the big lottery windfall that Curtis had been boasting about to anyone who would listen? Was the killer a respected family man Curtis had cheated, a mysterious hermit living in the nearby forest, or someone from the murdered couple’s past?
As the story unfolds, fear, racism, revenge, greed, and long buried small town secrets come to light, and more blood will be shed before it’s all said and done.
As sultry as a Florida back road in August, as mysterious as the South's live oak trees dripping with Spanish moss, and as deadly as a copperhead strike, Jackpot, the twelfth book in New York Times bestselling author Nick Russell's John Lee Quarrels series is sure to hook you from the first page and keep you reading late into the night.
*This book contains violence, strong language, and adult situations some readers might find objectionable*
In Nick's own words as he was working in this book, the storyline changed in the middle of the book and surprised him how it turned out.
I highly recommend you take the time to read ALL on Nick's books. He has the ability to make you think that you are in the middle of the book as you are reading the book.
I think the old author Is getting senile this is really simplistic , Really Don't make no sense.. Silly old timers backwards backwoods. There is no way this story could possibly appeal to an educated Call Cajun American man, Or woman.
John Lee has been one of my favorite characters of Mr. Russell's. There are always twists and turns in his books and they a!ways !save yoh wanting more. This series is located in F!orida and as usual the police department has a lot to deal with including a murder. I look forward to the next book and another adventure.
This is book twelve in John Lee series that I have read. The storyline was pretty interesting. However, with most of previous books, the perpetrators of the crimes emerge somewhat out of the blue in the final 2-3 percent of the book without adequate buildup.
Nick Russell’s books always take a turn toward the end, and end up way off what everyone was thinking. This one is no exception. A real page-turner, with a satisfying ending!
I love the John Lee Quarrels books. The depth of the characters and the emotion evoked from the stories makes these books a 10+. Nick Russell is a great writer. This book did not disappoint and I look forward to the next one!
Great storyline, the author really understands small town Southern politics, racism and poverty. The story also includes Childhood Trauma and how difficult it is to overcome it.
Nick Russell is A good author his books are one of my favorite and John Lee one of my favorite characters. Matter of fact when I have a book by him I read the entire book in one setting. Just can't put it down .
This was my first John Lee Quarrels book. It was a good story line. And show what greed in people will do. The introduction to the characters was good for me. Being a new reader. Great read and the ending is such a big surprise.
I read through the entire series in record pace, though I only read a couple of hours per day, depending on weather. Tough to put it down, wanting more. And now am very anxious for the next one to release!
Winning the Lottery isn’t always a good thing! Shooting your mouth off about it can also bring you trouble. See who wanted the money and who you could trust. Very interesting story that I know you’ll enjoy reading.
Once again Nick Russell does not disappoint. Another great story about Somerton County. I continue to look forward as the saga continues. Thanks again.
