Kinga Brady discovered Pride and Prejudice in grammar school in Hungary, where Austen’s wit, irony, and timeless romance left a lasting impression. Years later, after devouring countless Austen variations, she began writing the stories she longed to read herself – fresh, emotionally rich reimaginings set firmly within the Regency world.

Her first novel, Dear Sir, began as a simple letter, shared at her husband’s suggestion. To her surprise, readers clamoured for more, and the story grew chapter by chapter into a beloved variation. She has since written several Pride and Prejudice reimaginings, including Passion and Persistence and More Discerning.

Kinga’s novels are known for their authentic Regency atmosphere, elegant yet accessible prose, and bold “what if” scenarios that place Austen’s characters in new and often unexpected circumstances. Her stories have inspired both warm praise and lively debate – a testament to her willingness to explore the emotional complexities of familiar characters.

In addition to her novels, she creates companion websites filled with historical insights, outtakes, illustrations, and extras to deepen the reader’s experience. She has published her first original Regency romance, Whispers of the Heart, and is working on an annotated edition of Pride and Prejudice for modern readers.

Readers who love faithful Regency settings, emotional depth, and new perspectives on Austen’s world will feel at home in her stories.

This was an engaging variation. Both Jane and Darcy made of stern stuff. Goodness it took Lizzy a while to get her head straight and for Jane to be the one to admonish her repeatedly to get her there.

After much thought and consideration, Darcy decides to pursue Elizabeth Bennet after she refused him. He buys Netherfield and starts a new venture with his cousin. To start Elizabeth is constantly shown how she is wrong which makes her stubborn and annoying! I almost stopped reading. Once she has time to process, she become more palatable as a character and gradually appreciates Darcy. Jane has her own transformation and both sisters find their happiness.

The level of description of the new venture is interesting but wasn’t really necessary. If you like romantic flattery and ‘mooning’ over young ladies, there is a lot in this story.

I loved it!

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. You will see the most beloved characters in a whole new way. This is a Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice variation. A different writing style and a slow start to a very enjoyable story. This novel invites the reader on another adventure, with a little rearrangement of its events. In the original novel, our couple meet only by accident after the ball at Netherfield, when Darcy decides to leave Elizabeth behind. They meet at Hunsford by chance, and they meet at Pemberley by chance. Well, what if Darcy does not give up? What if Darcy is even more convinced that he and Elizabeth would make a great match after the disastrous proposal? What if he pursues her? I loved that Wickham was gotten ridden off early in the game, as well as the Bingleys. I love how Jane saw that Bingley was inconsistent and that he didn't feel strongly enough for her to withstand any opposition. I also always enjoy stories where Jane is happy with someone other than Bingley. This Jane is quite interesting and I really enjoyed her taking a petulant and immature Elizabeth to task. I was interested in Darcy's project and I really liked his cousin. I loved how hard Darcy fought for Lizzy, in parts I was slightly miffed with Lizzy for being so stubborn but it passed soon enough. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. I highly recommend to everyone.

Engrossing

4.5 stars

This was a very enjoyable read. I love how Jane saw that Bingley was inconsistent & that he didn't feel strongly enough for her to withstand any opposition. I also always enjoy stories where Jane is happy with someone other than Bingley. I thought Elizabeth was a bit stupid in the beginning, but even so this was s very enjoyable book.

Entertaining read

Interesting story with Darcy not giving up his pursuit of Elizabeth and the way he went about it; not just waiting until there was a chance meeting sometime in the future. He also took action when necessary. Elizabeth was more stubborn and actually quite immature in some of her thinking. The lives of the sub-characters included were interesting also showing a well thought through storyline. I think Darcy and Elizabeth were left a little hanging in that the others characters had more of a conclusion, although these came in an unusual manner and then the story continued as if you didn't know th end before it came.

I thought at about 20% into this rendition I would definitely be purchasing this one. At first because of the beautifully rendering drawings of the story characters, then the storyline itself. It would be on my bookshelf as well as my kindle but I can't see if the book has the colored drawings. While footnotes tend to irritate me, the author sends the reader to a website that has full offerings rather than just dry references. Plus full colored drawings of the people and places in the story. Well done Ms Brady!

Ive just finished this book. I loved it. Darcy not giving up and following Elizabeth back to try to win her by showing her his true self. Not a premise that is often done. I could only think of a couple of books Ive read with this theme.
Darcy was really great in this story. Plus the other new character he brought with him enriched it having an interest in Jane .

The title delivers in the story

I LOVED this variation!

The premise is that Darcy is convinced by his Fitzwilliam family that if he really loves Elizabeth, then despite her rejection, he should go after her and change her mind by showing her the real him.

What I loved:
-The work at Netherfield
- Lady Matlock and her son, the Viscount's help
- The comeuppance of Wickham
- How real the path to HEA was- it wasn't that he went back and got the girl- it took time and Elizabeth wasn't always nice about it
- The inside thoughts of both Darcy and Elizabeth as they consider one another
- A different HEA for Jane
- A subtle change in Mrs. Bennet
- The scene on the horse was the chef's kiss

There were some really beautiful and insightful conversations and realizations in this story. The relationships really got stronger and felt so intentional because of some of the creative choices by the author. It wasn't flowery, but there were many beautiful moments. There were a few between Mrs. Bennet and her daughters that might be my favorite in any variation, ever.

I loved this one and I'll be adding it to my reread pile!

I thoroughly enjoyed this variation. I loved the direction Jane took, I loved how hard Darcy fought for Lizzy, in parts I was slightly miffed with Lizzy for being so stubborn but it passed soon enough. All in all it’s a great read.

Interesting variation

I enjoyed the gust of the story but felt it was more of a Jane story rather than Elizabeth and Darcy most of the time. I liked the gentle transformation of Mrs. Bennet and the Wickham resolution was good. I was a bit overwhelmed with the business enterprise in that they were so drastically changing the countryside. Minor editing issues and few continuity issues especially in the epilogue. Overall it was a good story.

Second or third chances

Oh how romantic that Darcy is persistent and that his cousin joins him. Grateful for the outcome of this story. Applause!!!
Smile at the brains used by everyone. Love the comeuppance of the Bingleys.
Great read!

Such a wonderful variation and highly recommended!

This is one remarkable Pride and Prejudice variation as it delves on many aspects of the love affair between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet. Elizabeth plays hard to get due to her previous misconceptions against Darcy, while Darcy is relentless and persistent in his pursuit of the only woman he has cared and dared to love.

With the help of realizations stemming from advice from family, Darcy learns what it means to win the heart and hand of a woman worthy to be won.

Jane Bennet also finds happiness with a different gentleman from Canon. This would have been the most delightful outcome for a character like Jane and most satisfying. But one can suppose, Jan Austen was rather more realistic in her views about life and people in general, given the societal and familial expectations most of the peerage were faced.

Overall, a most commendable and highly recommended read. The only down side to this one is how modern expressions and conversations are easily used. If one is not bother by that, then this is an excellent and satisfying variation indeed.

Passion and Persistence is a beautiful Pride and Prejudice variation that captures the heart of Austen’s world with a fresh emotional perspective. Kinga Brady brings new depth to Mr Darcy by showing what it looks like when love is matched with genuine growth, humility, and unwavering commitment. The transformation of his character is written with clarity and tenderness, and Elizabeth’s journey is equally moving as she learns to see Darcy again with new understanding.

The writing feels elegant, warm, and true to the Regency atmosphere. The emotional development unfolds gently, allowing the reader to savor each moment and rediscover the beloved characters through a new lens. This story honors the original while adding a heartfelt second chance arc that stays with you long after the final page.

A wonderful read for anyone who loves Austen inspired stories, clean romance, and character driven relationships. Kinga Brady’s storytelling is both thoughtful and memorable. I truly enjoyed this experience.

Passion and Persistence is a satisfying and thoughtful variation of Pride and Prejudice that explores one simple but powerful question: what if Darcy refuses to walk away after Hunsford? Kinga Brady stays true to Austen’s characters while allowing Darcy to grow through determination rather than distance. His persistence feels believablen ot arrogant, but reflective and intentional as he works to earn Elizabeth’s respect instead of waiting for chance to bring them together again.

What makes this story work is how naturally the emotional tension unfolds. Elizabeth remains strong-minded and cautious, while Darcy’s steady pursuit forces both of them to confront their misunderstandings sooner and more honestly. The author does a great job blending familiar moments with fresh developments, making the story feel comforting yet new. For readers who love Darcy’s growth arc and wish he had fought harder for Elizabeth from the start, this variation is both romantic and rewarding without straying too far from Austen’s world.

Kinga Brady’s Passion and Persistence gave me everything I didn’t know I was missing from Austen’s original and more. Watching Mr. Darcy rise from the ashes of rejection, not in pride but in humility, was absolutely soul-stirring. His quiet determination, his growth, his unwavering love it’s the kind of devotion that every reader secretly dreams of.

Elizabeth’s journey moved me just as deeply. She’s strong, intelligent, and wounded yet open to rediscovery. Their slow, tender reconnection felt so real that I found myself holding my breath at every glance, every word, every moment of understanding between them.

This book isn’t just a “variation.” It’s an emotional resurrection of love itself graceful, passionate, and deeply human.

Passion and Persistence touched something deep within me. Kinga Brady captures the essence of what true love means not perfection, but persistence through pain. Darcy’s refusal to give up after rejection, and his choice to grow rather than withdraw, made my heart ache in the best way.

Elizabeth’s emotional evolution mirrors that of every person who has ever learned to trust again after heartbreak. Their reunion is not built on grand gestures, but on small, sincere acts of care and understanding. This book reminded me that love is not about pride or passion alone it’s about humility, patience, and courage.

From the very first page, Kinga Brady draws you into a world of emotion, longing, and transformation. I’ve read many Pride and Prejudice variations, but this one stands apart for its emotional intelligence and tenderness.

Darcy is beautifully reimagined here not as a perfect hero, but as a man willing to change and fight for love. Elizabeth’s journey feels authentic and empowering, filled with self-discovery and grace. The chemistry between them simmers quietly, growing into something powerful and pure.

If you’ve ever wished to see Darcy and Elizabeth truly rebuild from the heart, Passion and Persistence will give you that gift.

A brilliant and irresistible Pride and Prejudice twist

Passion and Persistence pulled me in instantly. Kinga Brady takes one bold question and turns it into a story every Austen fan secretly wishes for. What if Darcy never walked away after Hunsford? What if he fought for Elizabeth with heart, courage and unwavering devotion?

The result is a beautifully written, emotional and addictive variation that feels both classic and fresh. Darcy shines, Elizabeth is unforgettable and their chemistry is absolutely electric. I loved every moment and could not stop reading.

This is the kind of Pride and Prejudice retelling that reminds you why you love these characters. A gem worth every page.

I enjoyed this variation as a whole. I loved the characters and the author's transformations of several of the key players. Darcy was well developed and a delightful change as he worked to improve himself to be worthy of Elizabeth. Phillip was a perfect character. I loved him for so many reasons, but I don't want to give anything away. I deducted a point because I found the changes to Netherfield and Darcy's and Phillip's new business venture to be tedious and dragging with too much detail.
But overall, a great story. I highly recommend it for all ages.

Passion and Persistence swept me away from the very first page. This story answers that question what if Mr Darcy pursues Elizabeth with passion, tenderness, and a breathtaking amount of character growth. Darcy’s determination is heart-stealing, Elizabeth’s internal struggle is beautifully portrayed, and their evolving relationship is both fiery and deeply emotional. Jane's story is interesting too.
The Regency world feels rich and authentic (the author has clearly researched the period very well) and the pacing kept me turning pages late into the night. It's a wonderful story.

Needs an editor

The author has talent, but she really needs an editor. I noticed a lot of grammatical errors as well as instances where the wrong word was used. In one example she says that Darcy “smelt” a bouquet of flowers. In another she describes him as being “implacably” dressed. I’m assuming she meant “impeccably”.

I enjoyed the story and the romance was sweet. An editor could really improve her writing though

This retelling captured my heart from the very first chapter. Kinga Brady perfectly reimagines Darcy and Elizabeth’s story with tenderness, emotional depth, and authenticity. I loved seeing Darcy’s persistence and humility as he strives to win Elizabeth’s trust again. The writing is elegant, the dialogue feels true to Austen’s style, and the romance is simply breathtaking. A must-read for every Pride and Prejudice fan!

What if Mr Darcy had not given up after the disastrous Hunsford’s proposal? This is exactly was this Pride and Prejudice variation explores.
Mr Darcy returns to London brokenhearted, luckily his family doesn’t let him wallow in his grief. Both
Colonel Fitzwilliam and Lady Matlock encourage him to pursue Elizabeth. So Mr Darcy comes up with a plan together with the Colonel’s older brother the Viscount. They take over the lease of Netherfield and their development of the estate is benefiting much of the neighborhood. Mr Darcy still has to overcome Elizabeth’s prejudices, but I really like, that he takes charge of life and fights for what he wants. So their happy ending isn’t brought about by a chance encounter.

Sweet Story with Odd Punctuation

I would have given this 4 stars for the sweet storyline and some unusual twists, but all the bizarrely placed commas, wrong pronouns and hilarious word choices could not be ignored. Stretched hands instead of outstretched hands, disproved instead of disapproved are just two of many humorous incorrect words.

What if Mr Darcy didn’t give up after Hunsford?
A fun variation that ended satisfyingly. A Darcy who knows who he wants and I determined to get it, A Jane with a stronger spine and an Elizabeth who struggles to let go of first impressions until the changes are thrown in her face repeatedly.
I loved it!

What a delightful book! I loved Jane - she grew up so much and much faster than Elizabeth did! That being said, I loved Lizzy, too. But most of all, I loved Darcy and his persistance. Phillip, Viscount Matlock and Lady Matlock were very welcomed additions, too.

Enjoyable P&P variation with some new elements that were fun to explore. I was not fully taken with this version of Elizabeth and Darcy, but I did very much enjoy the new take on Jane and Bingley. It was a quick and fun read.
