It’s Christmas in Honey Springs, Kentucky at Roxy Bloom’s coffee shop, The Bean Hive. When an elderly store owner is murdered, Roxy sifts through clues and discovers Otis has been hiding a lot of secrets. This story is a quick, satisfying read and includes recipes for people and pets!
Note: My ebook copy contained numerous editing errors.
When a body is found under the town Christmas tree at the lighting ceremony everyone is shocked, especially when it turns out to be Otis. Otis was a well liked and respected member of the community. Roxy doesn’t intend to investigate she just can’t help herself, Otis was not only her neighbor in business but also a friend. When she finds out he was apparently hiding something she starts seeing him in a different light. Did his secrets have anything to do with his murder, and will she be able to dig out the truth? This is such a great series, the relationships between the characters always feels real and has me wanting to meet them. I look forward to revisiting them and their town long before the next book comes out. Dive in and I think you’ll love them as much as I do!!!
It’s Christmas time and Honey Springs is going all out with their annual Christmas in the Park. As they light up the Christmas tree they quickly realize something is wrong. There is a pair of legs sticking out from under the tree. The legs belong to one of Roxy’s friends. Was this an accident or did someone commit murder? Roxy can’t help but try to find out who murdered her friend. She soon her friend has led a life of secrets? Can Roxy solve the murder without ruining her first Christmas in Honey Springs?
I love this series, once again Mrs. Kappes does not disappoint. She has created realistic characters and a lovely town I would enjoy visiting. I love the relationships that the Roxy has formed in the short time she has lived in Honey Springs. I also enjoy the partnership Rozy has with the local animal shelter and her coffee shop to help the animals find their forever home.
I listened to the audiobook the second time around. The narrator is fabulous with the voices. Listening to this book was like listening to a play. She is made listening to the book a great time.
This is a quick fun read. Great holiday read mystery lovers. Recipes included. I would recommend this book, it can be read in the series or as a stand-alone mystery.
I was provided with an ARC of this book with the hopes I would review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was such a good Christmas mystery! I could just picture this sweet little town at Christmas with a big tree and Patrick being Santa Claus. I just love visiting Honey Springs, KY! They sure know how to do Christmas right.
The town of Honey Springs was getting ready for the Christmas festival. At the official town tree lighting ceremony, a pair of feet and legs were sticking out from under the big tree. One of their own townspeople had been killed and placed under that tree. The lawyer in Roxy couldn't help once more being part of the investigation, even though Spencer, the sheriff, wasn't crazy about her interfering. This time when an attempt was made on her life, she backed off. Thanks to someone else, the police were informed, the arrest was made and Christmas continued as planned.
I really enjoy all these characters and it was pretty exciting that the series is going to have a couple of new characters as well. I always get a kick out of shop employee Bunny and Aunt Maxi fussing with each other--they're really friends, but they like to pick at each other sometimes. Emily, the girl who was working for Roxy in the last book, got some really good news which made me happy too. I hope the next book is set in the spring and that it includes a wedding!
I didn't pick out the killer till close to the end and I believe it was probably when we were supposed to be putting the clues together anyway. It was a great twist that really surprised me. I'm ready for the next in this series (which I have--and another is coming out soon too) and I can't wait to attend the book discussion on this book!

Review:
The author is very talented in creating small towns that are inviting and realistic. Honey Springs is just such a place. I would like to visit there, especially at Christmas time, to see all of the lights and decorations and join in on the fun (but I could skip the dead body). Through her descriptions, Honey Springs really came to life for me.
The characters are quirky and engaging. Roxy is a fun loving, curious and loyal person. When one of the town’s own citizens is found murdered, she feels that she must get involved in helping find the culprit. She does not want anything to ruin her first Christmas in Honey Springs, and murder could certainly do that. I enjoyed spending time with all of Roxy’s friends and employees, especially Aunt Maxi. And all of the animals found within the pages of this book were wonderful.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well plotted cozy mystery. This whole series is really good and I cannot wait for the next one to be released.
“Freshly Ground Murder” earns 5/5 Secret Santa Surprises!
Are you ready for Christmas in Honey Springs? The holidays have arrived with the boardwalk decked out and a snow slurry or two adding to ‘White Christmas’ hopes, but it also brings the delicious aroma of Christmas Harvest Blend brewing and Santa Kiss Cookies fresh out of the oven wafting from Roxie’s coffeehouse The Bean Hive. She is very excited about spending her first Christmas in Honey Springs with her mother, her aunt, new friends, and her handsome fiancé Patrick Cane, ready to join the community with all the festivities including the annual tree lighting ceremony. But, a murderous ‘Grinch’ has put the holiday cheer on hold when Otis Peavler, owner of the tattoo parlor Odd Ink, is found dead, sticking out from under the holiday tree, and wrapped in lights. He was her neighbor and friend and finding out who is responsible is something she can’t leave to someone else, although the local law enforcement is not so eager to see her at crime scenes or visiting witnesses and persons of interest.
Delightful Fun! Tonya has penned another clever mystery with twists and turns, lots of suspects with motives, secrets needing to be uncovered, and a “Wow!” ending, but the myriad of fun characters, family dynamics, and romantic entanglements is where this series really shines. I greatly enjoy the excellent descriptions that make the town, the sights, the smells all come alive with the type of dialog that seems like I am more of an ‘eavesdropper.’ Fans, like me, are thrilled with our continued journey, and if you are a newbie, you need not shy away since there are enough references to background and character connections to keep you turning the page.
"Disclosure: A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.”
Christmas time in Honey Springs, Kentucky is a wonderful time of year and everyone is getting ready for a week long celebration. With the whole town at the Christmas tree lighting ceremony, imagine their shock of finding poor ole Otis Peavler dead under the tree. Now Roxie is on a mission to find the killer.
Anytime Tonya Kappes releases a book I grab it immediately and begin reading. Her stories will put you right in the town she’s writing about. I always feel like I am visiting with old friends. Also don’t skip over the yummy looking recipes in the back of the book. Freshly Ground Murder is the third book in the Killer Coffee Mystery series. So grab you a copy, a cup of coffee, a sweet treat and enjoy a visit with Roxie and everyone else in Honey Springs. This book will definitely put you in the Christmas spirit !!!
I listened to the audio book version which I wouldn't recommend. The audio quality was poor, sound keep going back and fourth between quite and loud. And don't get me started on the change of narrator for this book and the over the top fake southern accent. As a result what should have been 3/5 stars for this book is getting a 2/5 stars from me. Hopefully the third choice of narrator who does the next book and more is better otherwise I may just end up DNFing this series.
I very much enjoyed Roxys first Christmas in Honey Springs! A great addition to the series. Tonya has a way of grabbing her readers attention with little efforts. It's so easy to get wrapped up in her novels.
Who doesn't love Christmas, coffee, and romance? These are the things you get when you read this book. Tonya Kappes puts you in the middle of the plot and let's you figure it out with the clues she plants try throughout. Such a fun series and wonderful Christmas read.
DNF Too many typos and grammatical errors, which kept pulling me out of the story. I had read the first two of this series and really enjoyed them. In fact, I was enjoying this story as well, but I just can't handle all the mistakes. I'm moving on, and hoping that I don't miss anything important in the series by doing this.
I’ve fallen for Honey Springs, AK! Cozy Christmas backdrop, with all the town regulars and their shenanigans. You can feel the sense of community, which is why I’m enjoying this series so much.
The production quality of this book was very inferior by comparison to other Tonya Kappes books. As a Theatre Arts major, I feel qualified to call this out! If there was an editor - they must have been asleep at the switch! Plus this book was read by a new voice, (Ariel Hicks)! One that I did not care for! I usually listen to these books at 1.5 times the normal speed, however the dripping Southern accent applied to ’Freshly Ground Murder’ made me drop back to normal speed, in order to make sense of the dialog! I will try one more book in this series, however, if it is the same audio artist I will probably bail! My last pit fall, … this book sounded as if it was recorded inside of a closet- with the lights turned out! There were far too many repeated phrases, and attempts at getting names pronounced the correct way! A good editor would have cleaned this up. The reverberation of the audio was not a good sound effect! There! That was how I really felt!
"Freshly Ground Murder (Killer Coffee #3)" by Tonya Kappes is set right around Christmas time. Roxy has some decorating for the holidays and some special Christmas themed treats she mentions making/giving away. One of her regular customers suddenly changes his usual order. Then, when he's found dead, they find out he was lying about a lot of things he told them. Including who his orders were for. One of these secrets probably got him killed.
This was a good holiday mystery. The town is gathered to light the tree. However, they end finding a dead body under it. The rest of the book is Roxy trying to figure everything out. Thanks to the help of some of the townspeople she is able to get the job done.
It is Christmastime in Honey Springs, Kentucky, a time for all the goodies of the holiday season. I can almost smell the Christmas Harvest dark roast coffee, the holiday special at The Bee Hive Coffee Shop. The Boardwalk is all set for the lighting of the Christmas tree. Rosie and Patrick are in love and engaged. Everything is set for a season of fun. Unfortunately, things aren't all fun for one of the town's folk when their body is found under the tree. The scenes is in this book are vivid and full of life. The author has a way of making me see things as if I were actually there. Smell the smells and hear the sounds. Makes me excited for Christmas to get here! This is a wonderful series and I highly recommend it.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
It’s the first Christmas for Roxy Bloom in her new home of Lake Honey Springs. Her coffee shop, The Bean Hive is doing great. She is loving the holiday season until the town has its tree lighting and a dead body is found. Roxy knows the victim and feels like she needs to help make sure the murderer is caught. There is also a stranger in town that might need investigating. This is the third book in the Killer Coffee Mysteries Series by Tonya Kappes. With each book, the plots get better and better. Whenever I read one of Ms. Kappes’ books, I immediately get “lost” in the pages. Her characters are so real and likable, and she describes the settings extremely well. I would recommend this book to any cozy reader who likes small towns, good neighbors and surprise endings!
I adore Christmas mysteries add some great coffee, baking, recipes and great characters and I am sold.
Roxy, Pepper, Patrick, Sassy and all their friends are back for a great Christmas mystery who killed Otis???
I do love a good mystery this one had great twists and turns and honestly Spencer the towns wonderful Sheriff only got a little frustrated with Roxy....lol but then so did Patrick her aunt her Mum and the list goes on........ but seriously they should all know by now Roxy may no longer be a practising lawyer but she will always be nosy by nature.
I am completely hooked on this series! Tonya Kappes has a magical talent for weaving wonderful stories and this book is no exception. Roxy is the main character but there are so many truly amazing characters that all come together in this cast. The story is fresh and unique. The town is amazing and Christmas festivities in this book just make it that much better, I really wish that I lived there too! I am so excited and am eagerly waiting to see what is in store for them all.
Once again Tonya Kappes has created a great cozy. Also, once again Roxy has to help Spencer solve the case. Lastly, Roxy's and Patrick's relationship is a great side plot to the story. A must read in a great series.
I enjoyed my return to Honey Springs. The mystery was good and I enjoyed the spin on what the deceased was up to when he was seemingly sneaking around. I absolutely loved that an animal was rescued and got d it’s forever home by a soon to be resident of Honey Springs!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is well written and full of colorful characters. The story of a man murdered and placed under the community Christmas tree makes for a story that catches the reader into trying to figure out why he was killed. Very good story.
It's Christmas time in Honey Springs, Roxy and the folks are excited, they have planned a tree lightning and a paw parade, along with a week long festival. At the lighting ceremony, one of the long time residents is found dead. What happened and why?? Tonya has written a great page turner that you will just devour. I was not able to put it down.
Roxanne Bloom (Roxy to her friends) takes it upon herself to investigate when her friend and owner of the tattoo shop is found to have been murdered and placed under the Christmas tree in the park for everyone to see at the tree lighting ceremony.
This is another fun story from Tonya Kappes. It has nice character development from earlier books, some humor and a bit of suspense.
What could be better than Christmas in Honey Springs? The town is beautifully decorated and Roxy is looking forward to her first Christmas in Honey Springs and starting new traditions. Hopefully, finding a dead person under the town Christmas tree won’t be a new tradition! Another great mystery with tons of suspects. Roxy, even when not actually investigating, happens to find herself in trouble! When will she and Patrick get married?
Book three in the Killer Coffee series. Welcome back to Honey Springs, Kentucky the most adorable small town on the lake. Roxy still runs her coffee shop right in the middle of the boardwalk and now it is Christmas time. Things are going great until the town tree lighting reveals a dead body tucked under the bottom of it. This must have really ruined the mood for the night I have to say. Not being able to help herself Roxy starts looking into things and man does she uncover some really good dirt that I did not see coming. This was a fascinating read that really kept me guessing trying to figure how who really did do it. I think it is the little details that Tonya puts in her books that really make them stand out with one being no exception. If you enjoy a good cozy mystery that a culinary flair to it then you really have to give this one a shot or I suggest the whole series to be honest. I really enjoyed it so I give it 4/5 stars.
Tonya Kappes has done it again, a wonderful small town that at this time of the year should be all Currier and Ives, but Tonya makes it murder and mayhem instead!
Roxy is wonderfully happy, she is engaged to her childhood sweetheart, The Bean Hive is doing well and she has her wonderful rescue pup (Pepper), but The Grinch is about to descend on Honey Springs killing her coffee shop's next door neighbour, now even though everyone is telling her to just keep serving coffee and treats Roxy cannot help but get involved as she cannot understand why anyone would kill Otis. When she digs too deep and someone sets fire to her cabin (luckily Pepper wasn't there at the time) she realises that if she is to walk down the aisle in the Spring she needs to step carefully now.
