Review:

The characters are well rounded and well developed. Roxy is a southern gal, through and through. And she loves owning the Bean Hive Coffee Shop and making everyone’s life better through coffee. Her relationship with Patrick, the love of her life, is progressing better than she could have imagined. And she is looking forward to the town Halloween Festival. So when a dead body turns up, she feels she has to figure out the killer so that the Festival can go on. I really enjoy getting to spend time with Roxy and her family and friends.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick easy read. The author has the southern setting and southern culture down pat and she makes both very humorous with her writing. Some of the phrases that she uses had me laughing out loud. The mystery is well plotted and held my interest through the whole book. The murder occured a little later in the book but that was fine with me because I wanted to catch up with Roxy and her friends and family.

I would recommend this book, and series, to anyone who enjoys a well plotted cozy mystery. I am already looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

I volunteered to review an ARC of this book and and I have given this honest review.

This is just the funny and lighthearted story I needed after reading a more serious (but awesome) cozy. I mean who doesn't love reading about an adorable farting Pug named Norman?

The Halloween festival was in full swing in Honey Springs, but Roxy had heard some disturbing news that the owners of the Bee Farm were going to sell part of their land to a resort developer. That would either slow down or close Camey Montgomery's Cocoon Inn. When Roxy asked the owners, she said they needed to add more bee colonies which was expensive. Right away, Roxy got the town together in collecting donations for them so they wouldn't have to sell any of their land. In the meantime, the head of the developing firm was found dead in the Inn. As usual, Roxy couldn't rest until she was checking into things to keep her friend Camey from being charged with murder.

I think this is my favorite book of the series yet since something very special happens. The showdown with the killer was super quick, but absolutely awesome! And little Norman got his forever home as well.

There are some yummy-sounding Bean Hive recipes at the end of the book, including Jean Hill's Apple Pie Jam which sound deelish! There's even a recipe for the pumpkin dog treats that seemed to help little Norman get over his gaseous tendencies, along with his special diet dog food.

Decaffeinated Scandal by Tonya Kappes was another sweet southern cozy mystery that involved the whole town of Honey Springs.

Roxy and Patrick are engaged but Roxy has been stalling on setting a date. She's trying to avoid hard feelings between her mother and her aunt and when they all meet at the wedding planner's office, Roxy knows that something needs to be done. There is also a resort developer in town that's talking about buying property that will endanger the bee population which is responsible for the sweet honey that Honey Springs is known for. There's a Halloween festival, a wedding, a murder and numerous suspects in this twisty tale. The characters are all quirky and likable with just the right amount of southern sass to keep a reader laughing while reading. I can hardly wait for the next book in this series (or in any of Ms. Kappes series because I enjoy them all).

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. All of the above opinions are my own.

Decaffeinated Scandal by Tonya Kappes is the fifth book in A Killer Coffee Mystery series. Roxanne Bloom owns The Bean Hive in Honey Springs, Kentucky. The town is getting ready for the Neewollah Festival which starts in three days. Roxanne is surprised when she hears that the owners of the Bee Farm, Andrew & Kayla Noro are considering selling part of their island to a developer who wishes to build a resort. The Bee Farm is a tourist destination and development of the island could kill off the bees. Roxanne meets Ron & Bev Harvey along with their grandson, Jimmer when they come into The Bean Hive. Ron is the developer interested in the Bee Farm and his personality leaves something to be desired. The Neewollah Festival (Halloween spelled backwards) has a surprising and happy start, but then a scream rings out. Ron Harvey is found dead at the Cocoon Inn with a bloody candlestick nearby. Cammy Montgomery, owner of the Cocoon Inn, finds herself at the top of the suspect list and soon arrested for the crime. Cammy asks Roxanne to put her sleuthing prowess to work to clear her from the suspect list. Roxanne also needs to find a way to save The Bee Farm or Honey Springs may disappear from the map.

Decaffeinated Scandal may be the fifth book in the series, but it can be read alone. However, I recommend reading the series in order. Something special occurs in Decaffeinated Scandal and you will appreciate it more if you have followed the characters from the beginning. Honey Springs is a quaint small town with charming shops and friendly citizens. There is even a boardwalk where The Bean Hive resides, and Roxanne lives in an adorable cabin. Tonya Kappes has a conversational writing style that makes for an easy flowing and to read story. There are a variety of quirky characters including Penny Bloom and Maxine Bloom (mother and aunt respectively) plus an adorable dog, Pepper. I laughed frequently while reading Decaffeinated Scandal. Norman, a pup looking for a forever home, is residing at The Bean Hive, but he has an intestinal disorder that causes a stink (literally). Who will be the perfect parent for this cute, yet stinky canine? A clean book with no intimate scenes, foul language or gore. I appreciate that the police are not telling Roxanne to stay out of the investigation (they would prefer she not meddle, but her intel is helpful) and the police are courteous. Roxanne’s fiancé, Patrick knows that she will not be happy until she solves the crime. The whodunit is straightforward but does not start until later in the story. It is obvious who will be killed (the nasty man) and the killer was just as easy to identify. There are two things that I find puzzling about The Bean Hive. I do not understand why Roxanne does not make fresh pastries for her shop each morning (instead of defrosting items to bake). Also, why is a dog allowed in the kitchen where food is being prepared (health violation). I know it is a book, but details do matter. I am giving Decaffeinated Scandal 4 out of 5 stars. Readers looking for a light-hearted and entertaining cozy mystery, will find it in Decaffeinated Scandal.

Another great addition to the Killer Coffee Mystery series! This is one of my favorite series as the main character is intelligent, methodical and talented in her sleuthing and her life. A former lawyer turned coffeehouse owner who interacts with the other business owners in her town and is passionate about the town's success. This book not only brings an interesting mystery to the entertain you, but also progresses the characters lives in an exciting way! No spoilers here, you will have to read the book! Great characters, super plot and a setting that you want to move in and make your home all equal a must read book or rather series! You could technically just read this book, but you would be missing out on some nuances that have been brought to light in previous books, besides if you want to be truly entertained then you should start with the first book and read them all!

Roxy and Patrick are engaged and between her mother and aunt wedding planning is not easy.
Fall festival has come to Honey Springs so the town is bustling with tourists.
Norman, the dog being shown at the Bee Hive for adoption had me laughing out loud.
When a murder occurs, Roxy just has to use her sleuthing skills and get involved. Even though Patrick and the Sheriff would prefer she stay out of the investigation.
Quirky characters and just a really fun entertaining read, with laugh out loud moments.

I received an ARC prior to publication and decided to voluntarily review it. Opinions are my own.

I really love this author. I have yet to read a book written by her that I haven’t enjoyed!

Decaffeinated Scandal is the fifth book in The Killer Coffee Mystery Series. To best enjoy this book, I would suggest that you start with book one and go in order. The mystery can stand-alone but the main character has a storyline that is ongoing. The setting for this book is fall in Kentucky. There are several recipes included at the back of the book. The Salted Caramel Coffee is to die for! It is now my favorite coffee. I also tried the Bean and Ham Soup recipe. It is chilly in Alaska right now and this soup was wonderful. I chose it because I love Bean and Ham Soup but this had an ingredient I normally didn’t use. I did change the cooking method to using my Instant Pot but otherwise followed it exactly. It was mighty tasty. I made the dog treats for my Zoey. She loves pumpkin. I had them cooling while we went out and the male in the house noticed them. Yes, he thought they were a treat. When we came in from our walk, he told me he thought they needed a little sugar. I was a bit entertained by that. I guess I need to get a dog bone cookie cutter.

I think one of my favorite things about a series is getting to know the characters and the town. I love everyone in this series! There are some quirky people but everyone is genuine. The mystery was interesting and I was totally invested in the outcome. I sort of guessed who it was but was also wrong. There is something special that happens in this book and that leads to a special announcement at the end! I’m super excited about this.

If you are looking for a fun, small town, clean new series with lovable characters, laugh out loud moments and a murder or so, you definitely want to check out this series.

It's October in Honey Springs which means they are getting ready for their Halloween festival. While preparing for the festival Roxy and Patrick are also starting their wedding planning and trying to keep the peace between Roxy’s mother and aunt. Everything seems to be going well when the body of a businessman visiting the local B&B is found during the festival.

I loved this book. This is one of my favorite series. The characters are great with their quirky Southern charm. Roxy is one of my favorite characters in this series, she is a caring person who is determined to help her family, friends, and community when she feels there is a wrong that needs to be corrected. I also love the fact that Roxy helps out the local animal shelter by sponsoring an animal that may be harder to adopt in the Bean Hive Coffee Shop. The mystery has a great pace and several twists and turns to keep you entertained and guessing until the big reveal. I also love that the recipes that are included in the book are for both pets and people.

I listened to the audio version of the book the second time though. The narrator is wonderful at bringing the story to life with her accents. She adds to the reading experience by bringing the story to life.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves cozy mysteries, pets, female sleuths, food, coffee, and romance. I received an ARC of this book in hopes I would give a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own and in no way have been influenced.

Things are going well for Roxy, her business is doing well, she is starting to put together her wedding, and she is excited for the upcoming Neenwollah festival the town is having. Once she gets word that a developer is in town looking to buy the Bee Farm and build a resort with a golf course she can't believe it. The Bee Farm is a major attraction for the town and brings in the tourists which helps keep all the businesses in town going, if they lose that what will the town do? When local Inn owner Camey is seen fighting with said developer who later ends up dead she becomes the main suspect in his murder. Roxy knows Camey and doesn't believe that she would hurt a fly much less kill someone. Roxy realizes that she must step in and help find the killer before something else bad happens and Camey ends up in jail. Follow along as Roxy delves into the developers life to figure out just who might have wanted the man dead and gone. Could it have been a local who didn't want the resort project to get up and started, or his wife who he dragged from town to town, maybe his drug addicted daughter, or is it someone from his past? There are many suspects to be looked at and clues to follow but will Roxy be able to solve the puzzle or will it remain a mystery?

Do you like small towns? I love small towns and I’m ready to pack my bag and visit these folks in Honey Springs. What an awesome group of folks. You have those who try to outdo each other, that’s always fun to watch. But mostly in this small town you have those who truly love their neighbors and their town. I would love to go visit all the shops they have in Honey Springs. I’d never heard of a Neewollah Festival, but it sure seemed fun, well except for one unplanned event. If you’re planning a wedding, you can probably get some excellent help from some of these good folks. Oh, and if you looking for a pet to adopt you, just stop by the Bean Hive Coffeehouse. I’m sure they can fix you up. Now we wait for the next adventure of my friends. I received an ARC of this book from Book Funnel. My opinion is my own.

I have to say there was absolutely nothing to dislike about this story, the mystery was awesome, the small town setting is always a joy to re-visit but especially at Halloween or Neewollah as they refer to it in this gorgeously quirky and quaint town and to top it all of these characters always have me coming back for more time and time again.

I am also a fan of the recipes they are a fantastic bonus.

What a great book! So much going on! I love how Mrs. Kappes writes: Southern, sassy and surprise endings! If you like a cozy mystery about family, small towns, friendships and love, then you need to read this book. It can be read by itself, but I would suggest starting with the first one to get the background on Roxy and Patrick and their wonderful town!

Roxy and Patrick are busy planning a wedding in the midst of a fall festival and the ongoing arguments between her mother and great-aunt as to the planning of this wedding. There is a man in town wanting to buy some property the bees are on and this rules up the town. I love the way the author brought all of this to conclusion. I couldn’t put this book down. It was exciting and fun.

I really like Roxy and the rest of the characters in this series. As the town is gearing up for their festival, it comes to light that someone is going to buy the bee farm and put in a resort. Even if the town doesn't want it sold, the bee farm owners feel they have to if another solution isn't found. Roxy will rally the troops to save it. In addition to that, Roxy has a surprise for Patrick. But, as the festival gets under way, the man who would buy the bee farm is murdered. Of course Roxy has to figure out who murdered him and stop the sale of the bee farm.

Save the Bees!! The local bee farm is going up for sale and folks are nervous and upset. Developers are circling. The Neewollah Festival is about to happen and all the proceeds will go towards saving the farm from developers. Unfortunately, the real estate agent that was part of the deal turns up dead. Roxy is on the case!

This story has a murder, blackmail, a bee farm, a wedding, and a Halloween festival. The festival was my favorite part of the story. It was a minor part of the story. The bee farm was the main focus. I wasn't surprised by who the killer was, but I didn't think they would be caught they way that they were.

Oh My Word!! each book keeps getting better and better, I was sure this time I had sussed the killer but nope, Ms Kappes pulled the wool over my eyes again!

Halloween is happening (or Neewollah as they say in Honey Springs) and plans are being made for Roxy and Patrick's wedding (trying to get Roxy's mother and aunt to agree on anything though is a major problem), at the same time the bee farm that provides  the honey and is a major tourist attraction in its own right is having problems and they may have to sell up, the only problem is the potential purchaser is an obnoxious out of towner who wants to turn the Bee Farm island into a generic resort and golf course.  Now the town needs to stave off the purchase - but someone decides to delay the sale with murder, so Roxy has to don her lawyer outfit again and help get to the bottom of what is going on.

Welcome back to Honey Springs, Kentucky, whose Southern hospitality and charming townspeople will make you want to come back again and again! “Decaffeinated Scandal,” by the wonderfully talented Tonya Kappes (check out her other series too!), is the fifth book in her Killer Coffee Mystery Series about Roxy Bloom, the owner of The Bean Hive Coffee Shop, and her friends and family. Our story opens as the folks in Honey Springs are getting ready for the Neewollah (Halloween spelled backwards) Festival to be held in three days which will fill the town with tourists. Among the visiting tourists is Ron Harvey who wants to develop a resort on the same island that the town’s Bee Farm is located. Building a resort would jeopardize the lives of the bees as well as the sweet honey they produce which is what the town’s name was derived from. After a scream is heard during the festival, Ron is found murdered, and a masked suspect is seen running away from the murder site. When Roxy’s friend, Cammy, is arrested for the murder, Roxy goes into sleuthing mode to clear her friend’s name. With so many suspects and motives to sort through, will Roxy be able to save Cammy from spending the rest of her life in jail? And, as if finding a murderer isn’t enough to keep her busy, Roxy also needs to find time to plan her wedding (her loveable yet quirky mother and aunt are just a hoot), find a forever home for an adorable but gaseous (literally) puppy named Norman, keep her coffee shop going, and, oh yes, try to save the town’s bees and its livelihood.

Ms. Kappes has such a relaxed style of writing that “Decaffeinated Scandal” feels more like a conversation with a good friend rather than a book. The characters are very well developed, relatable, and down to earth...certainly a group of people I would love to meet and spend time with! Although you could surely read this as a stand alone mystery and thoroughly enjoy it, I would recommend reading the previous books in this series first to get to know the characters and their personalities a little better and because, quite simply, this series is just that good! With a lot of Southern sass, a well written mystery, and a lot of laugh out loud moments, “Decaffeinated Scandal” is a great addition to this already delightful series! Enjoy!

I volunteered to read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review, and all thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own.

This is part of a series, best read in order.

This series has been a favorite of mine since it has started, but as I much as I love the series, I felt this one was just getting some things out of the way with a murder that causes chaos for the community. Some things that I found exciting seemed to be glossed over just a little-but that is just my opinion and does not take away from the story.

There is a secret plan that Roxy has cooked up with help from three of her friends for Patrick, a surprise she hopes he will absolutely fall in love with-especially since he is in love with her! That is all I will say on this matter, because it is so sweet.

Chaos comes to town when a businessman plans to buy the bee farm and build a resort, but who knew the bee farm was for sale? No one, which is a surprise to Roxy and the community. After some digging she learns why her friends are considering selling-the cost to replace some of the hives lost is staggering (which is absolutely true when it comes to the cost of replacing hives and bees from the beginning when you are looking at numerous hives). Roxy puts her plan into motion, funds generated from the Neewollah Festival (Halloween spelt backwards) would go help her friends and the bees!

Ron, the spearhead behind the resort is smug and thinks that no matter what Roxy and the community does he will get that resort built. That is until he winds up dead. The question is, who did it? His snotty wife who wants nothing to do with her step-grandson, his daughter whose hatred runs so deep she has tried to knock him out with a board, co-workers who are willing to go above and beyond what Ron wants to get this resort built, Camey the inn owner whom Ron basically told her inn was trash and would be out of business because of the resort? So many options, so much motive. But who actually did it?! Read on and find out what happens next!

A cute little mystery with a quaint small town environment. The picturesque setting really makes this series. The mystery moves along quickly, and doesn't actually start until about half way through the book, but we are introduced to the characters involved from the beginning as well as get an idea of why the crime happens. You can also get a pretty good idea who is going to wind up murdered. :O You can read the books in this series as stand alone's, though this one has a special something in it that you will appreciate more if you know the core cast of characters better. I won't give spill the beans, but I do wished we got to see the Protagonist's mother and aunt fuss about it a little more. ;) One thing I especially like about this series (more so as the series moves on,) is that the amateur sleuth isn't always getting ridiculed (or threatened with jail time) from the local sheriff or her boyfriend, like usually happens. They may not want her sticking her nose into the investigation, but the police knows she can help and accepts it even embraces it, and her boyfriend knows she won't be happy until she figures it out, so he just kind lets her do her thing. The characters are quirky... at least the older folks. It's a quick read. The murder isn't witnessed by us readers (so no violence.) There is some romantic elements, but no sex. Clean and safe for teens and up.

*Volunteered to review an ARC of this book.

This is a wonderful quick read that you will certain trouble putting down! Honey Springs is the setting for yet another wonderful whodunit featuring Roxy and the crew! You can actually picture/place yourself in this fun Kentucky town and getting to know everyone be it via truth or gossip. The Bean Hive is the perfect place to get acquainted with all the townspeople, especially when it comes down to solving this latest murder mystery when a visitor to the town turns up dead! Although this book does just fine as a standalone, if you haven't read any of the previous books in this series, you really should consider doing that. The characters develop from book to book, but, they are developed well enough in each book that you can still easily jump right in and enjoy the book! Always fun people to meet, along with a good, hard to predict mystery and humor injected in just the right places, and oh, yea, don't forget the dollop of romance thrown with Roxy and Patrick as they plan their wedding with tons of both solicited and unsolicited opinions offered. There is never a dull moment in Honey Springs and your attendance at the fall festival is a must, including following along as the mystery of the dead visitor is unravelled and solved. Bonus: recipes to DIE for (pun intended)! Another sure winner!

DECAFFEINATED SCANDAL, the fifth book in the Killer Coffee Mystery series by Tonya Kappes, finds protagonist Roxy deep in preparations for the Neewallah (Halloween spelled backwards) Festival which is sure to be a fun, tourist drawing event. Plus, she is trying to juggle work with planning her wedding. However, when word gets out that a developer has his sights on the Bee Farm, Honey Springs, Kentucky’s biggest tourist attraction and provider of local honey, to turn it into a resort and golf course, Roxy cannot help but try to dissuade him. The developer is murdered, and Roxy must get to the bottom of things before the sale of the Bee Farm can be completed.

I liked DECAFFEINATED SCANDAL. The small town, quirky town of Honey Springs is the big draw to the Killer Coffee series. The characters are fun, and Kappes infuses the narrative with plenty of humor. This time around, the mystery and the characters central to it are not as developed as I would like, and the ending is a bit rushed. That said it is still an enjoyable and entertaining read. Time spent with Roxy is always time well spent.

I received an ARC of this title from the author/publisher and voluntarily shared my thoughts here.

This author has such an imagination! From the first page, she has her "whimsy" on - a fall festival in town called the Neewollah (Halloween spelled backwards) - so clever! The cute shop names - and the fun legend in the front of the book - just that extra step that piques your interest and gets you in the mood to enjoy your reading adventure with Roxy in Honey Springs! And such a descriptive writer too - I can absolutely picture the places and people in my mind's eye as I am reading.

When a developer comes to town, the small community is buzzing about his proposed project...and not in a good way. When he is found murdered, there's no shortage of suspects for you to sort through as you investigate the crime along with Roxy. For those loyal fans of the series, there's a great surprise in this one! Happy to say I didn't figure out the killer until just before the conclusion to the story. Another excellent read and a great addition to the series - can't wait for more!

Note: I did receive an ARC of this book, but my review was not expected in return and is totally voluntary.

This is the fifth book in the series. The protagonist, Roxy Bloom, is always willing to lend a helping hand where one is needed. Roxy's aunt and mother's antics are entertaining! Norman, the pet showcased in The Bean Hive for adoption, was a hoot! If you enjoy cozy mysteries with characters with loads of Southern charm, you'll enjoy Decaffeinated Scandal!

The town of Honey Springs is getting ready for the Neewollah Festival. Roxy learns that a developer wants to buy The Bee Farm to put in a resort. The owner of Harvey Foundation, Ron Harvey, has brought business associates along to scope out the town. When Roxy learns about the plans to buy The Bee Farm, she makes plans of her own. The building of a resort will put Roxy's friends and fellow business owners out of business.

Roxy has the perfect costumes for Patrick and her to wear to the festival. While the Neewollah festivities were in full motion, a scream erupted at The Cocoon Inn, where Ron Harvey's dead body is found. When Camey Montgomery, owner of The Cocoon Inn, becomes the prime suspect, Roxy sets out to prove Camey's innocence.

Roxy puts to good use her coffee, lawyers intuition, and sleuthing skills!

This is a great book!!!!

I love this series, when I read these books, I feel like I'm right there with everyone in Honey Springs.
Roxy got into a big mess, when she was surprising Patrick during the community that is having Neewollah Festival for 3 days.
Then she found out some big company is in town trying to buy the Bee Farm across the lake from the boardwalk and a lot of the shops depends on the honey the bees produce.
She went to ask what was going on they said b they lost alot of bees and couldn't afford to get what they needed.
Roxy had already talked to the nasty, rude owner of the company wanting to build an eye sore resort and golf course where the bee farm is. And that's when stuff hit the fan.
Roxy got busy going to the people of the community to donate to the bee farm.
The nasty business man ended up not so good, who did it, because no one liked him not even his wife and daughter.
Now read this to find out, because I loved it and I hope I didn't spoil it for you.

This is book 4 in the series. Roxy married Patrick in the last story so they are beginning their lives together with their 2 dogs. A stranger comes to town and wants to buy property from the bee farm and build and open up a resort. Many of the local businesses use the honey from the bee farm to make their products, including Roxy. She and several others are opposed to the change because they feel it will ruin the feel of their small town. Then the interloper is murdered and she feels compelled to determine who committed the crime since potential suspects are friends and even her mother.
In this book Spencer, the sheriff, decides to work with her, since she picks up leads easier than he does and also this time she truly figures out who committed the crime, though it is worth noting that Spencer attains the information through his own investigation as well, and at about the same time.I enjoyed this better than the previous books, since she wasn't in mortal danger and she actually was able to follow the clues and correctly determine the culprit without accusing the non guilty.

This was a lot of fun! A lot of energy in this book with things happening fast! I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but there is a fun surprise! I

like how the author has a dog called Pepper in the story… a bit of an homage to the dog that she used to have. Now she has a cat Rowena. I have kept up with her newsletters over the years.

I love the illustrations on the book covers in this book series. Pepper, the little schnauzer is featured in each one!!

The writing is easy to read. It’s not hard keeping track of the characters. If you haven’t read previous books I think you could still enjoy a book by itself.

In the front of the book is a map of the different stores that are featured in the story.

By the way, the author does love coffee in real life so this book was a perfect idea for her series as it’s based on a coffee shop.

At the end of the book are some recipes, which are nice to look at and possibly make!

This was your perfect relaxing cozy mystery. It checked all the boxes for a cozy book.

SCANDALOUS TIMES!

Decaffeinated Scandal: A Cozy Mystery (A Killer Coffee Mystery Series) proves these are Scandalous Times in Honey Springs, KY. All of Honey Springs, KY is is busy preparing for the annual fall Neewollah Festival. Roxy Bloom, owner of the Bee Hive Coffeehouse, and occasional amateur sleuth, is no exception. Her fiancé is still after her to set a date for their wedding. How can she concentrate on that when there are rumors circulating of trouble brewing that can change everything for all of Honey Springs? The night of the festival, Roxy has a few surprises of her own planned. What’s a festival without a huge surprise ending? There is so much innuendo, past secrets and too much at stake for the poor Sheriff to work through alone. The real question is: How much information can you really learn over a cup of coffee? I was provided an ARC of this book by the author. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
