First, I want to congratulate this author! As a writer myself, I cannot imagine the joy and accomplishment she must be feeling to have her novel out there for the world to see!
3.5 - The premise of this book was so interesting. And while I had a few questions and a few issues with some parts of the book, the overall plot was exciting and kept me intrigued.
*I noticed a few verb tense issues a few times but I'm just weird like that. *The romance was written very nicely. Swoony but clean which is my favorite kind! *I didn't exactly find Valarie that likable to me. Maybe I needed a little more information of her background and more fleshed-out about why perfection was so important. Maybe some flashbacks to moments with her mom or something. *The pace was off for me. The beginning was pretty slow in some ways and then the last like 1/4th of the book was so fast I felt like I had whiplash. Some of the sweet moments I wanted to be just a little longer. They felt like they ended too quickly for me. *The ending was rushed in my opinion and it utterly wrecked me honestly.
Overall, I think it was a good first book. I don't want to give away spoilers so I won't go into the questions I had about the book. But we can discuss in the comments if you want to know!
First, I need to take a deep breath to process what I just read. I’m not usually someone who writes reviews, but this book made me start doing so 😅.
It all began when I found this book by chance. I read the blurb and thought, “Wow, I might like this—it seems nice.” But it ended up far exceeding my expectations.
I started reading the first chapter—good, not bad—but once I got to the second and third chapters, I couldn’t stop myself 🤯. I never expected to like it this much, but the author did an amazing job making me anticipate what would happen and keeping me constantly on edge.
The world-building in the book is wonderful (though I wish there had been a map to make the experience even better). The character development is good. and the pacing might have confused me at first—especially the shifts between the present and the past—but I got used to it.
I loved the FMC. Valerie believed her life was perfect and that she had to remain perfect all the time, or her fiancé would leave her. She had to constantly meet her mother’s expectations and always be the best. This was how Valerie thought her life should be, and that it was for the best. But when she moved to another world and her true, suppressed personality began to emerge, she became a free person—no longer building her life around others’ expectations or trying to be who they wanted her to be.
Even her relationship with her fiancé—whom she thought was the love of her life—was revealed for what it truly was: not love. If she hadn’t maintained her fake “perfect” persona, he wouldn’t have fallen in love with her and might not have even noticed her. She realized she had become the person her fiancé wanted, not her true self—the one she had never shown, first because of her mother’s high expectations, and then because of her fiancé.
As for the MMC, I didn’t like that he didn’t have his own point of view in the book, since everything was told from Valerie’s perspective. However, I did like his character development and how he treated Valerie—he was incredibly sweet 😭 (I don’t blame Valerie for falling for him; he’s extremely charming).
I liked that the book contained clean romance without any spice, and that's what made reading it fun and comfortable.
The ending? Oh my God, I need to jump into the second book as fast as possible—I can’t believe what happened 😭😭!!
Sooooo good!!!! Oh my God!!! Valarie and Theo are so meant for each other. I love how she had the courage to be at peace with who she is as a person and allow herself to be imperfectly happy with Theo. I need to know what happens next!!!!
I am a massive sucker for time travel and multiverse novels, so this was right up my alley!
I was incredibly intrigued with the mysterious character of Theo, and I really enjoyed the evolution of his relationship with Valerie. I also appreciated that they kissed more than once and there were several heated scenes (not sex, just attraction) between them. Yasssss!
The story was very engaging, but I do wish Valerie had been a little more something. Older? Curious? I don’t know how that sounds, but I wanted her to explore what happened a little more than she did.
I do wish we had met more characters from the village. I don’t like that we jumped ahead at the end, missing out on a lot of character development. I feel like there should’ve been more.
The ending knocked this down two full stars. That’s a reallllly hard way to close a book, y’all. Yikers!
Why in the world would Theo try to stay and fight when there was nothing to save of the village or people and his wife was literally about to give birth?! Is he seriously dead? WTH? It sounded like he was pretty dead there after being run through. And how did Valerie get back to the present day??? Charles said he tried jumping in the lake and it didn’t work for him, so why did it work for her?
The sneak peek scene was interesting, but I honestly didn’t care to be back in that world again since everyone we cared about was killed in the raid. It is a magical world though, so maybe Theo was taken captive and didn’t die? I don’t know. I hate saying anything negative because this was such a good novel until the last chapters, but dude…really rough end.

This book was something else!! There’s a cliffhanger so just a heads up…. Keeps you engaged the whole time. I hate that so many people you come to like were killed off. Not cool!!!!
The story is told from the POV of Valarie Thompson, a successful real estate agent, soon to be married to her soul mate, Theodore Burns. Valarie has spent her life trying to paint a perfect version of herself for the sake of others. In her pursuit of perfection, her life unravels after a fall into a mysterious lake, propels her into another world. In this world, there are swords and clans and mythical beasts. In this world, there is also Theodore, but not as Valarie knows him. This Theodore has a sword pointed at her neck.
I picked this one up from Amazon after stumbling across the author on Instagram. This is her debut novel and I'm all for supporting new authors. I liked the look of this book purely from the cover art alone, but when I read the synopsis, it intrigued me. I'm usually a thriller girl with the odd romance or historical novel thrown in, so I don't usually delve into the fantasy world, but I'm so glad I did! It turns out this is exactly the escape from reality I didn't know I was looking for.
I don't usually enjoy overly descriptive books but I loved the descriptions in this one, I really felt like I had fallen through that lake and was right there with Valarie. There was a moment in the middle of the book where I felt like I needed more action, and then the pace picked up and I was screaming noooo less action now! The ending got me good and now I desperately need Audrey Webb to hurry up and finish book 2, so I can go back to Arborus and find out what happened!
This book has definitely convinced me I need to pick up more fantasy fictions.
This was ok. I enjoyed parts of it. Seems to copy Outlander pretty strongly. The writing is a bit choppy, but the romance was nice. Pacing isn’t great.
I'm not quite sure how to feel about this book. I mean, I finished it and wasn't bored, so that's a good sign! It did feel like it needed more editing, but this is also, apparently, a debut novel so I'll be cutting it some slack.
What I liked: The world building was simple, yet interesting. It wasn't confusing or hard to follow and though we didn't get much history or detail in this book, I gave a feeling the next book will shed more light. I liked the characters for the most part. Owen gave me villain vibes at first, but he became one of my favorites. Emmerson was extremely annoying at first, but she grew on me. Val, despite having a few stupid moments where she got annoying, went through a lot of personal growth that I appreciates appreciated. Theo was your strong, stoic type character, but he was likeable and his romance with Val was sweet and respectful. I liked the creativity of the world. The wolbri bear and the pterpolus (I think) wolves. I also liked the idea of Arborous being a village in the trees. The way Webb described Vanin was immersive. I loved all the details!
What I didn't like *minor spoiler warning*: I didn't appreciate that Val kissed Theo without first breaking it off with Ted. Now, to be fair, she was stuck in that world and thought she had no way back, but still... maybe it could have been done differently. Maybe she could have accidentally gone back, realized she didn't love Ted, and gotten with Theo after she found her way back to the fantasy world. Speaking of Ted, I loved that Val grew in character and realized that she was wrong about what made her happy, but it also felt a little like she blamed Ted when, in reality, he never did anything wrong. And when Val gets kidnapped... what was really the point? We meet Charles and learn he's from America, but nothing really comes of that. But I'll give Webb the benefit of the doubt, maybe it comes into play in the second book! Finally, I think the ending was a little silly. Valerie rushes off to help Theo when he's in the middle of a battle, yet she has only ever had like... a month of training. It took me out of the story. It made her a bit less relatable, considering that nobody would be useful in a fight with only a month of training.
*CONTENT WARNING* Language - None, except for two uses of h**l and one "For G*d's sake!" But I'm not sure if that's taking His name in vain or not. Spice - None! One closed door scene at the end of chapter 28, but nothing is detailed and it fades to black before we really get into anything. Violence - This book was a little gory with brief descriptions of a lot of blood and some people being gutted. So beware of that! Magic - Nothing that made me uncomfortable! ************************************************
Overall, the book wasn't as good as I'd hoped, but it was certainly fun to read. And I have high hopes for the next one, considering it took Webb about two years to write. This, hopefully, means there was a lot of edits to further improve the book! I would recommend if you're looking for a sweet enemies to lovers portal fantasy with all the swoon and no spice!

4 ⭐️s for me on this one First of all, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the story line that takes place for this book Valarie I find is similar to me in ways which made me feel drawn to her. The struggle with perfecting herself and putting on a show for everyone, while not being herself at all but with people wanting you to be perfect? Wearing a mask can just be exhausting to a point where you can’t pull yourself back to your own reality versus the reality you made the world to believe you are.
It was such an amazing concept to have the MMC Theodore be ‘almost’ the exact same Theodore from her original world instead of a new man completely. Watching her fall in love with the man who looks exactly like her man, but also very drastically different? It was definitely for the better though. He really brought out the best in her and was so blunt in making her “nobody’s perfect” (thank you Mira) reality come true and make her realize she needed to be the same Valarie that she was trying to hide. Val brought out the softer side of Theo, which I also believe he needed that too.
I honestly didn’t think the beginning dragged on at all. It really made sense to make it a slower pace since, I mean hello!!!! She just fell off a cliff and is in a world that shouldn’t even exist! I don’t blame her at all for basically going through the five stages of grief trying to get back to her own world but also adjusting to her new world at the same time.
However, I was a little disappointed about how fast the ending was! It was like everything happened so suddenly and like word vomit happened wanting to get every thought out as fast as possible. I know I would never mind reading 200 extra pages of plot if it meant slowing the pace down and adding either some more details or even just little things that doesn’t make it feel rushed.
THE ENDING WAS SUCH A PLOT TWIST it had me on the edge of my SEAT the whole time!!!! I devoured this book in a day and I cannot wait to see what the next book is going to be like, ugh.
In the end, I 100% recommend this book, especially those who love romantasy without all the spice! I’m a huge spice lover, but this one felt perfect in its own way!
“But that’s a standard you’ll never be able to meet. You’re setting up unrealistic expectations for yourself. If you live life trying to impress others, you’ll always feel like you’re never enough.”
“The more you care for someone, the more it hurts. And it hurts, Val. It hurts so much.” His bottom lip quivered. “I tried telling myself I didn’t care. That as long as I didn’t care, I wouldn’t ever have to feel like this again. But it was already too late. I care, Valarie. I care about you.”
“I love you, Valarie. I’ve never been so sure of anything in my life.”
My heart ❤️😭
ps. I’m no author and not the best at making reviews, bear with me if things feel repeated or don’t make the most sense 😭🙂

The vibes: - Book 1 in series - Portal fantasy - Found family - Parallel universe - Fade to black
My thoughts: Valarie is a successful realtor with a seemingly perfect life with a seemingly perfect fiancé, Theodore. When Valarie is on her way to a house showing, she gets lost and falls into a mysterious lake. When she resurfaces, she’s been transported to the dark, cursed forest of Arborus filled with monstrous creatures. This is a parallel universe, portal fantasy.
I liked the idea of this book. The plot was such an interesting concept. I think the characters and the backstories could have used a bit more development across the board.
There were some themes/moments that were very repetitive. Valarie feeling like a boy or unfeminine because of her short hair and because she wore pants (also others telling Valarie she looked like a boy). Emmerson’s entire personality was being mean to Valarie while also throwing herself at Theo. And it also seemed like every male was around every corner ready to assault Valarie.
There were times that the parallel Theo was so horrendously rude to Valarie about her body not being “much to see” or that she wasn’t “much of a woman anyway”. I love a flawed man, but this felt too far for me in an uncomfortable, icky way. When the love confessions hit, I really felt the chasm in their connection. It was so abrupt that I didn’t feel at all. The relationship progressed at the speed of light, and I struggled to catch up to their feelings.
Overall, because I liked the bones of this and see a lot of potential here (and because of the massive cliffhanger), I do plan to read book 2.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book because I was in a book slump after reading the Light Lark series. At first, I was kind of confused with the character. I wasn’t sure what she was gonna decide, but I’m always indecisive so I feel similar to her. I enjoyed the plotline so much. I enjoyed how she somehow fell into another world and she was able to realize within herself. She is capable of more than what she thought she was and became a stronger woman. There was a lot of plot twists. I was not ready for, but it kept me on the edge of my seat, and I kept having to turn the next page and I could not put this down at all. I enjoyed all the character building and it really felt like you were in the book and you were really there. I enjoyed the story very much, especially with Valerie and everything that happened to her but also the ending I was not ready for. However, it does make me excited and hoping for a second book because I would love to see what happens next to her, but also what happens to her and her love interest. I just can’t wait to see what happens next I highly recommend this author. It kept me on the edge of my seat if you’re ever in a book slump by highly recommend this book.

Outlander vibes, need I say less? Very similar plot line, but enough differences to not feel copy and paste. This book has it all: action, romance, battles, political intrigue, found family, you name it. As someone who struggled with perfectionism, this FMC is one of the most relatable FMCs I've encountered because of her similar struggles. Valerie is a people pleaser, overworks, doubts her self worth, and is very critical of herself. I think a lot of us can relate to that.
The MMC is stoic, protective, and carries a heavy burden. He has strong morals and is a true leader. All of the side characters felt very human to me. No one was perfect, just as it should be.
As for the romance, this is more of a medium-fast burn, but I think it's well done. The story was fast paced and engaging. I read it in two sittings. It ends on a major clifthanger, so I can't wait for the next book to come out next month! I can tell by the way the author wrote this one that she is setting things up nicely for the second book. I have a feeling the next one will be even better!
Line Between Two Worlds by Audrey Webb is an amazing story. Written with such great care and vivid description, you can picture everything that's written on the page.
An amazing story of adventure, love, grief and acceptance that grips you with each word. The beasts that plague the land, a wonder created by the author that's descriptions are something to awe over. The lore of the world is amazing and there is still more to explore with what comes next.
With amazing characters that hold strong in personality and growth. They will grab hold of your heart and squeeze it for all its worth as each chapter goes by.
So, if you're looking for a Mideval Fantasy with great characters, feral monsters and world fractured by war and the ghosts of the past. Line Between Two Worlds by Audrey Webb is a must read.
Line Between Two Worlds pulled me in right away with its blend of real life pressures and unexpected magic. Valarie’s perfect life falling apart felt relatable, and her sudden arrival in the dark, dangerous world of Arborus had me hooked. The world is vivid cursed forests, deadly creatures, and a constant sense of unease. The biggest twist is Theodore. Seeing the man she loves in this new world, but as someone who doesn’t recognize her and is ready to strike, added so much tension and heartbreak. Their dynamic kept me turning pages. It’s a gripping, emotional story about identity, trust, and love under impossible circumstances. A strong, compelling read.
Though the ending was unexpected, the overall book was difficult to get through. I know how tall all the characters are, but they have no depth of personality nor chemistry. Valerie was driven to be perfect in a very one dimensional feeling way, while also being combative and reckless. Theo seemed like a grouch with no hidden depths or anything to draw her to him. Even Valarie’s best friend Mira had zero personality. It was short enough that I pushed through it. The last third felt very rushed and the ending was a surprise. I could be curious to read a sequel, but I might not be able to push through a second without better writing.
Line Between Two Worlds by Audrey Webb is a great read. It was fast-paced and I was deeply invested in the characters and world that Audrey created. I especially loved the characters, Valarie and Theodore, they have both been through so much. Seeing them heal and open their hearts to each other was absolutely beautiful. They have amazing chemistry and I appreciated the fact that their relationship was a slow burn. I must give a special shout-out to Owen. His warm personality made me love him instantly. I highly recommend this book if you love time slip stories. PS: The ending of this book tormented me. I'm hoping Book Two will heal my dear little heart.
I recently had the pleasure of delving into the enchanting pages of "Line Between Two Worlds," a wonderful book, penned by none other than my talented wife.
The narrative effortlessly weaves through realms of imagination, drawing readers into a world where the line between reality and fantasy blurs seamlessly. The characters are vividly brought to life, each with a depth that adds a layer of authenticity to the entire story.
It's an excellent book, and I am excited to see what follows in the series!
Prepare to be enchanted! This novel is an absolute must-read!! Webb transports you to a mesmerizing world filled with intrigue and adventure! Her storytelling is a breath of fresh air that brings to life a realm where every page is a portal to wonder. Her characters are relatable each with their own charm and depth, all of whom have a special place in my heart. The story keeps you in the edge of your seat as twists and turns abound. Great story and page turner! I am buying this book for all my friends and family!
Excuse me while I go pout in the corner. When is book 2 coming !?!? You fall in love with the characters. With Val and Theo and their love story, and have so much hope for them and Em and Owen and then it gets ripped from you at the end. No glimmer of hope, just death and destruction. This book has shredded my ability to move past it with the dump truck full of what ifs, why’s, and possibilities that could be in book 2. Would I recommend it, you bet, but be prepared.

I really enjoyed it. It looked forward to reading a lot! I loved the writing style. The writer really knew when to get there some areas fast and others slow. I think my only complaint is sometimes it got a little too intimate. For example kissing one bare back. It didn’t go deeper than that though! But that’s my only complaint! I would definitely recommend! I’m excited for book 2! This was my first ever romantasy book I’ve read and will read a lot more!
There is an intriguing plot here, but the lack of an editor makes it hard to digest. Incorrect verb usage, tense changes mid sentence, overt description of unnecessary details, and a blatant disregard for time and natural processes when an injury is involved made this a hard story to keep up with.
I think a good, solid revision is needed before this book could be considered anything more than a very rough draft of a story.
I love this book! It's very enrapturing and keeps your attention throughout the whole book! It has the best and favorite tropes of every romance reader and is very unique in the plot. This is a must read book! Valerie the main character really grows into herself throughout this book and is very relatable too!
the character voice is consistent and realistic. I enjoyed all the moments I nodded and said yep that is exactly how I thought Valarie would act or what she would say. my favorite scene is when Val is "collecting flowers" which could also be worded peeping on Theo. leading to the perfect double entendre "If looks could kill, I’d be dead right now"
Audrey Webb has done an amazing job drawing us in to her writing, and allowing us to immerse ourselves in the world of her characters.
As an up-and-coming new author, Audrey's ability to create depth and understanding to her characters is amazing. I was enthralled with this book, and can't wait for Book 2 to come out and continue the storyline!
Spoke has an interesting concept but is pretty clearly in need of professional editing. Incomplete sentences, slightly contradictory paragraphs, etc. jar the reader out of the story. It’s a decent debut, but reads more like a first draft than a polished story
I have been obsessed with this book since I read it. It put me in a book slump because it was so good! I loved all the characters especially the main character and the world building, it just felt so pure reading it. There’s longing and romance without the smut. I loved that there wasn’t “magic” but you still feel the magical feelings with the creatures and world. I highly recommend this book!
I was lost in the amazing world. The characters and their growth was amazing. I was able to grasp the feeling as the change occurred. Definitely recommend this story and can’t wait for the second part! Thank you for sharing this amazing world.
While this book was a little simple in its writing, I enjoyed it right to the end. If you are a fan of outlander but want something easier to digest, give Line Between Two Worlds a go.
I definitely see this book fitting well in early teen fiction, great for 13-15yr olds.
