At the close of her birthday party, Vicki says goodnight to those staying over and returns to her room for a well earned rest. While she knows her best friend Lara will be there, she doesn't expect her to find lying beneath the sheets, naked and drunk.
With the breakup with her boyfriend Malcolm still at the forefront of her mind, Vicki isn't ready for another relationship. But, as she looks at Lara, even in her drunk and babbling state, she begins to realise that while her head may not be ready for it, her head has other ideas.
Now is the time that Vicki must choose; whether she will hide forever from what she truly wants, or if she can take the plunge and turn a strong and beautiful friendship into something more.

I'm the second half of a single author who likes to separate her work not only with different names, but personalities.
I'm the fun one. :p
I write erotica (romantic, kinky, pure fun) and take great pleasure in telling stories to delight and titillate. Smut with brains, that's what I do.
Some stories draw from real life experiences, others are complete fabrications of the mind. There's no way in hell I'm going to tell you which is which because... where's the fun in that?
In live in the UK and work from home while caring for my two young sons. I'm fortunate enough to live with a man who knows and understands what it is to be a 'creative' and is supportive, loving and kind in every way.
‘Don’t be sorry, Vic, tell me what you want. Or for once, do something.’
A short and steamy best friends to lovers romance, with a generous amount of pining and only one bed. It's just a short story, so there's not much to say about it, but it was fun and the author did a good job of establishing their friendship, and the reasons why they'd escalate it. And for something so short, there was a lot of excellent tension. A good time!
Friends to lovers it was sexy. I did not get into the characters enough. It would have been much better had we watched the relationship evolve. 2 stars
A poignant, emotive and sensual start to the Meeting Each Other series, Vicky and Lara are best friends who have developed deeper feelings for each other, but do they both have the courage to act on them?
Raven ShadowHawk has a wonderful talent and skill to make her character’s seem very real and draw her readers into their world - even in a short story - and I’m looking forward to seeing how they get on.
I loved this book so much. I honestly can't wait to read the rest in the installment. Eloquently written, beautifully formatted and wonderfully developed characters and love scenes that will want you coming back for more. His author definitely has a great command of words and her writing skills are a breath of fresh air. High recommendations from this picky reader for sure.
Such a skillfully written short story! I was pulled into the characters' world so fast, and they instantly had me rooting for them as a couple. Raven packed a lot of emotion, characterization and chemistry into a short piece and built up the tension so well. If you're looking for a quick and steamy read that also shows a meaningful connection between two women, this is it!
[update after second read-through in the 'Meeting Each Other' anthology]
Adding an extra half-star and just rounding it up to four in here. Either I was in some weird headspace before or... This time it read much smoother. Another possible explanation is that meanwhile, I've been listening to the author's podcast (Smut with brains) on YT and going into this story with Raven's voice in my head makes for a rather different experience.
=========================
I had some trouble getting into it. It was obvious that the author had the full backstory in her head but the tiny bits of it she decided to include in the actual story were barely enough. Sometimes less is more, but other times it leads to confusion. Coupled with some curious stylistic choices it was just an 'okay' read, something to fill lazy evening or to read while commuting. Still, I'm going to pick up the rest of the series and see how it goes.
I think in the writing but it is not there yet. I got so confused about which character was black and which one was white I'm sure because the writer did too. I think the characters are somewhat realistic and that makes me want to try some more by this author.
A great short story. Very sensual. No over-complicated environments; enough character to allow the realism through, but not too much so as to distract. The scenario felt authentic, not forced.
Definitely interested in reading more by this author.
