The Enemy Across the Loch

Rate this book
He believes she's a selkie—she has no desire to change his mind.

The loch divides the feuding clans. Ealann McEwan on one side, Miles Duncan on the other. When a chance encounter causes them to meet, a friendship is borne of necessity. But as war inches closer, they will be forced to choose: love or their families.

**Book three in the Myths of Moraigh Trilogy. The books are not stand-alone novels and must be read in order for full comprehension, but each novel has its own satisfying love story.

Y'all, this trilogy!!! It's amazing!!! I love it!!! I hope I'm coming across excited about it because I am! And this final book in it did not disappoint at all!!! I loved every moment of it! My reading time was limited so I was constantly, fondly looking at my kindle dying to turn it on and start swiping through the pages! It was a happy day when I had some reading time again and could dive back into the story.

You really do need to read these books in order! All of the characters in the trilogy have been wonderful! And I loved how in this book, the author had scenes from the point of view of the different characters in the trilogy. I loved that so much! There's so much happening throughout this book that it was wonderful having it told from the many different POVs so that we were kept aware of who was where and what was happening around them. Brilliant!

And of course the main focus is on Ealann McEwan and Miles Duncan but we're at the climax of the story and the struggles so their story experiences much of that. But I loved how it added to the many dimensions of their friendship and relationship. So many tender moments. They both have things they are holding onto from their past. Things which are heavy and weighing them down. I loved watching a lightening of those burdens as they trusted each other and trusted in what they were experiencing between each other. Such a sweet love story, even amidst the hardships!

I highly recommend you take a chance on this trilogy if you are a lover of books about Scotland, clan grudges, great characters, witty banter, clever storylines, books focused on friendship and family, and sweet and clean romance and happily ever afters!

Content: Clean. There are some kisses. There are some battles and sword fights and fires and wounds and torture, which all coincide with war and feuds but the author wrote it all very well and not overly graphic. I would let my teenagers read the series.

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

OH. MY. GOSH!!!!!!

All the hearts and stars for this one! Such a thrilling end to a fantastic series. It features the third and final romance of the series but also tied up all the loose ends in the overarching plot from the previous books.

This is a true enemies to lovers story. Like actual enemies. Miles Duncan and Ealann McEwan come from opposing Scottish clans and despite an underlying attraction between them, Miles is dedicated to the memory of his deceased wife and Ealann has chosen to dedicate her life to healing others.

When the conflict between the clans force them into proximity with each other, the spark ignites and hello super swoony romance and sizzling first kisses!

I loved that we got a few chapters here and there from the POV of previous main characters and even a few side characters - it helped to round out the story. Loved all the suspenseful scenes and plot twists!

I truly cannot recommend this series enough and am so sad that it has come to an end! My only comfort is that I can pull these books off of my shelf anytime and enjoy them again. These 5 star reads are definitely worth reading again and again!

PS You need to read this series in order!

I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required.

"If we are to establish peace, risks must be taken, aye?"
"Risks, aye. But we dinna ken yet what the risks will be. Who they will be."

What a finale to this series!!! Enemy clans finally come to a head; lines are drawn and crossed.

"I dinna envy yer position," Ealann said gently. "But neither can I pretend it isna real."

I stayed up well past midnight to finish this one. There were so many discoveries in this book and everything came full circle. Prepare yourself for all of the emotions. There was suspense, intrigue, traitors, unwavering friendship, healing (both physically and emotionally), and a tender-sweet romance.

Character growth is off the charts! I LOVED being able to have previous characters still playing such a large role in this book and getting inside their heads with the writing having multiple points of view! t was like watching a movie play out and I was hooked.

**I do still think you could read this as a stand alone, but it will be so much better having read the first two!

I'm sad to see this series come to an end, but I loved every second of it!

Thanks to the author for the copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.

Am I reading a lot of Scottish books around the time of the Jacobites? You bet, and it’s such an intense time to read about. I have really loved this series and have been looking forward to Miles’ story since book 1. Miles genuinely wants peace, however his heart is not open for a marriage alliance between feuding clans. At the end of book 2 he meets Ealann, who is also not interested in marriage, which created such a fun dynamic to overcome. As Ealann pursues her desire to become a healer, she ends up spending more time with Miles. It’s a compelling enemies to lovers, with so much tension. This book series has multiple points of view, which admittedly I don’t usually like, however Kasey uses this well to help us understand the clan and political strife. It doesn’t take away from the main story, but adds to it in a beautiful way. I will be reading this series again. Can’t wait to get a paperback!

These books must be read in order, so if you haven’t ready any, start with Journey to Bongary Spring. I’ve loved this whole series. Thank you Kasey for the ARC!

So good! Such a great ending to the trilogy. This book is full of heart and loyalty! I love how immersive Kasey Stockton’s writing is. You feel the tension between the clans and you feel the agony of choosing what matters most. I love getting to know Miles and Ealann along with revisiting the couples from the last books.
I recommend this to those who love Scottish historical fiction. It’s packed with action, political intrigue, multiple POVs, and compelling characters.

Thank you to the author for the eARC. All opinions are my own.

Wow! What an amazing conclusion to an epic series! This book had my heart in my throat the entire time. I had no idea how it was going to end and it was driving me crazy!! I absolutely loved being able to get to know Miles more in this book. He was such a sweetheart! I also loved seeing Eleana opening up more! I can’t say much more though due to spoilers, but this book definitely was a top tier read!! 😍

Finally, the last book in the series. I am so happy this trilogy has finally come to an end. I'm an impatient reader and it is hard to wait for the rest of the story and answers to questions. I'm so glad they were finally answered in this book.

Miles is such a good guy. I love that his character reminds us that just because maybe the majority of a group or the most outspoken of a group may be bad, does not mean the whole group is. Ealann has such a big heart. I love her desire to dedicate her life to heal others, but I'm glad she opened herself up to love as well. There are a lot of sad, hard and frustrating moments in this book, but there is also a lot of love and beauty.

An exciting story of love and loyalty.

Miles was a great hero. He had a hard position to be in. His love and fidelity were admirable qualities.

Ealann wanted so much to heal those hurting both physically and mentally so there could be peace between the clans.

This is a great love story that was such an interesting glimpse into Scottish history. I’m sure there were many with torn allegiances that had to make hard choices.

If you enjoy a good love story, Scottish history or both you will love this book. It is so well written that I could picture it all, the rain, the fires, the smoke and the mist. This is a good story beautifully told.

What an epic conclusion to an amazing series! Kasey Stockton brings 1700’s Scotland to life in this fantastic trilogy and I felt like I was right there alongside the feuding clans. There’s a fiery slow burn romance between Ealann McEwan and Miles Duncan whose families are on opposing sides. It’s an enemies to lovers romance that had me quickly turning the pages.

Ealann McEwan is studying to be a healer. She loves swimming in the loch which separates her brother’s home from the Duncans. When she meets Miles out rowing his boat, he mistakes her for a selkie. She offers him a remedy for his ailing mother and they begin to forge a tentative friendship. But, Miles’ brother-in-law is determined to war against the McEwans and Ealann and Miles get caught up in the middle. Will she and Miles ever have a chance to explore their feelings for one another or will they forever be on opposing sides in their families’ feud?

I loved this story! It was so rich with historical detail. The Jacobite rebellion and clan feuds feature prominently in this story and I found this part of English and Scottish history fascinating. The romance is amazing! I loved Miles & Ealann! Miles never thought he would be able to love again, but when he meets Ealann, there’s an attraction there that completely pulls him in. I loved the scene where Miles encourages Ealann to show him her knife fighting skills.

Be prepared to have some Kleenex on hand. There are definitely some scenes that will tug on your heartstrings. Loved seeing all the characters from previous books. It’s definitely a must read! Highly recommend to historical fiction and romance fans! This book is not a standalone, so if you haven’t read the previous books, I definitely recommend reading them first. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author, but also purchased the book through KU. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.

The Enemy Across the Loch is book three in a trilogy and not a standalone. I strongly recommend reading this series in order as the buildup for the clan tensions and reveals throughout book three are largely impacted by the series setup in the first two. With multiple POVs, it may be tough to jump in otherwise.
Clan tensions are rising between the Duncans and McEwans. The few who seek peace are far outnumbered and with the English on the hunt to eradicate Jacobite support. Feuding clans and personal loyalties keep Ealann and Miles at a distance.
I love the history woven throughout and the careful balance Kasey gives between clan versus clan and Scottish versus English issues as both were in abundance. The only thing I felt missing was a heavier dose of legend and folklore (more Selkie please!) that are in the first books. The romance was sweet and I especially loved Ealann's POV.
Thank you to the author for the advanced copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.

The final book in the Myths of Moraigh Trilogy concludes the overarching story, while focusing on Ealann McEwan and Miles Duncan. The loch divides the feuding clans and Ealann and Miles are on opposite sides. A chance encounter causes them to meet and a friendship is borne of necessity. However, as war comes ever closer, they may have to choose between love and their families.
What an exciting book! Honestly, I wasn’t even sure how it could end! Ealann was such an interesting character. She was a healer and had committed to her path in the midst of tragedy. I appreciated her loyalty to her brother and her commitment to what she chose. She was not as fiery as Marion and seemed more reserved, but she was just as fiercely loyal as all the rest. I like the variety of characters in the series. It was interesting to see Moraigh through her eyes.
I really admired Miles. He was trying so hard to fight for peace and still hold to the loyalties he has sworn. He has been a character throughout the series and I was really interested in seeing his story. We have been slowly getting glimpses into his life and what he wants from the situation. His relationship with his mother was so sweet! I loved her input! She definitely was not afraid to share her opinion with her son.
It was cool to see the story from another side. The other books were firmly on the McEwan side and the Duncans were the other clan. But this book has these characters who offer a new look into the overarching struggle. There was so much suspense and uncertainty around the conflict and war that had been inching closer with every book. I wasn't even sure how everything could be solved. Ms. Stockton did not take any short-cuts with the ending, so it felt complete and true to the characters, even if it was a bit bittersweet. Overall, I would definitely recommend this and it cannot really be read out of order to really understand the story. There is some violence and mentions of threats of assault, however, overall it is a clean story.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.

Read it for the:
-star crossed lovers
-political intrigue
-warring clans
-fast-paced plot
-series conclusion

Content: Clean, kissing only. War, death
Final rating: 4.5 / 5

An action-packed and emotionally charged read, the enemy across the loch will have you glued to the pages.

The chemistry between Miles and Elanna was there since their first meeting and grew despite their circumstances. The impossibility of their love made the romance between them that much more heartfelt. The relationship served as a good backdrop, and highlight, against the turmoil happening around them.

The warring clans, historic nods to the Jacobite moment, and multiple chapters featuring the POV of previous characters filled the plot with high-tension moments. I loved every second of it and enjoyed that this contributed to an ideal well-rounded read for me.

While I would have liked to see more development in the secondary characters whose actions contributed to the overlapping plot across the series, if only to flesh out the subplots a bit, this did not take away from my enjoyment of the story. I could live with it and found the bittersweet ending to be a great trade-off.

A memorable series, I hope to see more of this genre from Kasey Stockton in the future.

As I said in the review for the previous book as the series goes on it continues to get better! This was so well written!! The twists, how everything goes on, all so satisfying and well rounded!

Ealann and Miles story is soooo goooood! I know I said Marion and Cormac’s is my fave but this isn’t far behind. I love how they met, I love how his pov from that scene is in this book when hers had been in the previous, I love how the myth was incorporated, I love how they softened each other. Ahhh!

Prepare for a bit of heart wrenching in this one though.

Also, I didn’t like how Isobel went about something… it was technically the best course of action but it felt like it was something that could’ve caused a rift, and that she wasn’t being the team member she should’ve with Kieran. Though obviously he wouldn’t have let her… idk. There was a lot at stake. But it seemed like she didn’t respect his wishes or try very hard to compromise.

There were several pov’s, it seemed like a lot because it include the previous books’ mc’s, but I didn’t mind it too much.

Definitely books I will reread!

A true enemies to lovers novel, this book was an epic conclusion to the Myths of Moraigh Trilogy and did not disappoint. While the romance is a standalone, even more than the other two books, I would highly recommend reading this series in order to get the full range of emotions and deep understanding of all the odds Miles and Ealann are up against. I loved the unexpected twists and secrets that were revealed, many of which I was anxiously awaiting as I read each book. Seeing the different POVs of many characters that are key to the trilogy was really nice and engaging as well. The action and tension were enough to keep you completely hooked needing to know how things would end. A great ending to a wonderful trilogy, I recommend reading this series.

Forbidden love, clan disputes, battles, stolen kisses, a woman who stands up for herself, and a wonderful conclusion to a great series! I genuinely would LOVE to see this series adapted for TV (Netflix, get on this!) This series most definitely needs to be read in order, and each book is so good! I love Ealann and Miles and the undeniable pull they have towards each other. It makes for some great chemistry!

When only a loch separates feuding clans, there is little to stop the imminent war. But the small body of water also doesn’t prevent a chance encounter between Miles Duncun, the laird of Dulnain, and Ealann McEwan. When he finds her swimming in the loch, Miles believes her a selkie, and soon an easy friendship develops between them.

As the feud draws toward war, the added presence of the Redcoats and Duncan clan leader does nothing to douse the building flames, and a meeting to discuss peace results in a hostage situation and attack from the the Duncan side.

Struggling against his duty to his clan leader and growing affection for Ealann, Miles does everything he can to protect her and prevent all out war.

OH. MY. GOSH. If you have not started this series, you must just to read this book. Seriously. It is SO SO good!! The perfect balance of action and romance. I am so attached to all these characters and let me tell you, I BAWLED. I wanted to throw the book at the wall (the good kind of throw

I felt this book barely had the main characters together. They only ever really talked a few times, there was no reason they even liked each other. It was more about the clan disputes than any else. I was disappointed because I’ve liked Miles since the first book.

This book was a grand finale. I loved the build up of the first two books that led to this epic conclusion. I have gotten to know all the characters so well through out the three books that their triumphs and heart aches were personal. I felt a lot of emotion in this book. I loved seeing Isobel and Kieren and their sweet romance and bravery. I loved seeing Marian and Cormac and their loyalty to each other and leadership skills. But loooooved most of all Miles and Ealann’s developing relationship. Theirs was my favorite to read about. Holy moly they had the best kiss in the trilogy too. But this book was so much more than a romance. It was bringing together two feuding clans. It was about loyalty and honor and love and bravery and forgiveness and healing! I love the feeling of letting go of a long held grudge. It’s so cleansing. I love these characters and am sad to see them go. I was happy by how the Jacobite loyalty turned out. The epilogue was everything.

SPOILERS and book notes:
The year is 1743. I love that this book starts off with Ealann and Miles meet cute from the previous book but from his perspective this time! When they came upon each other in the loch and he thought her a celki. Bonnie prince Charles (a catholic) is trying to retake the throne and the jacobites support him. Cormac doesn’t support Jacobites but Marian’s dad the chief does. Marian and Cormak got married. The red coats executed Hugh!!! This makes me sad. Aww miles is a widower and doesn’t think he can love again. Awwwww!!! Ealann and Ian get left behind in miles castle when the chief of the claim (his bro in law) comes and betrays them. And then Ealann and Ian get thrown into prison and she gets injured as well as Ian!! Then Ian gets tortured and questioned for info on how to get into McEwan castle! And then Ealann was about to be questioned when sweet guileless miles comes and saves her! He just wants peace!!! He wants to help them!! Poor Ian. He just wants love. Who is going to be his love??? Miles is tending Ealann wound. All the heart eyes. His kindness shines through even when Ealann is a prison in a freezing cellar with a dying Ian. They are friends now. Even though he is technically her jailer. Isobel is the freaking coolest! So quiet but so brave!!! She snuck out at night to deliver a message for aid instead of lads (boys). And her husband Kieren is so worried about her. So angry she did this! He just wants to protect her and go after her! But he has to stay to protect the castle. They love each other so much. He is going mad with worry for her! And cormac is worried for his sister still trapped in Duncan castle. Aw poor poor Ian. He looooves Ealann. She is taking care of his broken body. She lets him know she only has friendly love for him. But he can’t help himself. And she finally gives him a kiss. What is going to happen to him? I am crying for him. She is clearly meant for Miles. She went with him to the Duncan army camp to tend to sick men. And he is so protective of her there. And then he asks her to show him her skill with a knife and she takes him down hehe. And then he takes her down and while he is on top of her they share THE BEST KISS OF THE SERIES. So sweet and romantic and dangerous and forbidden hehehe. Before the men at McEwan castle charged into battle they screamed “for Isobel! For Marian!” Awww they fought to protect their wives. Miles and Ealann remind me of Elizebeth and Will Turner in pirates of the carabien getting married in the midst of battle. Miles and Ealann choose to perform the “hand fast” oath in the midst of battle. so then miles path of marriage to Ealann frees him of his oath to the wicked Iver of Duncan. Now he can freely help the McEwans. They love each other and get married in the midst of battle!! HOW ROMANTIC I AM DEAD. After they made the hand fast oath their kiss was tangible love. After the kiss miles whispers “we are man and wife.” Hehehe oh no miles got stabbed by Iver AND Ian died!!!! Noooo! I am bawling for him. Oh my heck Ealann had to cut off poor young Rupert’s FOOT. Oh no the chief of McEwan died in a single combat battle to end the battle. Poor Marian and her mom. But they have changed their allegiance bc he has died! They no longer support the Jacobite cause! Thank goodness. It was more Alexander’s belief as chief anyways. Awww that seven year epilogue was everything. Isobel and Kieren have two babies and Marian and cormac have one and both those couples live at McEwan castle. They were visiting miles and Eawann at castle Duncan across the loch. And they do it all the time. And Eawann was pregnant finally. And she birthed the boy and they named it Ian. Awwwwwww. Also Rory escaped so that’s good.

There isn't a thing I'd change about this book.

All of the characters are so well written. They each have their distinct personality and their own arcs and motivations. But they're all well balanced so as not to be overwhelming to the story. The main focus is always the two main characters.

Miles's character is consistent through all three books. He has always been intriguing and a pleasure to see inside his head, and felt like a real person I wanted know more about. The feeling continues and increases through this book as well. I wasn't sure how much I liked Ealann in book two, but as we know more of her and see inside her thoughts in this book, I quickly liked her very much and found her more relatable than before. She puts up a strong and hard front, but has a sentimental side to her as well. Her arc is well developed and feels satisfying as she grows as character. No one is perfect, but they're both very likeable and make you root for them. They never annoyed me or frustrated me, like some couples in other books do. They talk to each other, and there aren't any unrealistic misunderstandings or frustrating problems that could be resolved with a conversation. The characters are adults and act like it. Their actions are also understandable and relatable. They have such great chemistry. Be ready for all the butterflies in your stomach to come alive. Their relationship develops naturally and convincingly. You can see they're well suited for each other, and that they will do wonderfully together in the future. It's a romance that's truly romantic and beautiful. Their scenes together are moving, full of feeling, and comforting at the same time.

It's also wonderful to get to revisit the lives of main characters from the previous books. The author sprinkles moments here and there for the previous relationships so it doesn't feel like they are totally forgotten about, but not so much that they take away from main couple or slow down the plot. Marion and Cormac's marriage is all and more than what we could have hoped to be. Even though Isobel and Kieran's book was a while ago, they still stir your heart with their scenes. You'll love revisiting their relationships.

The story feels realistic without losing the wonder of transporting you to another world.

The plot picks up early on, and builds well. It's heartwrenching and heartwarming at the same time. It doesn't just tell you what's happening. It stirs your emotions and so you end up really caring for the characters. They feel like real people and the stakes feel real. There isn't a boring moment.

It does a good balance between progressing the love story and the bigger overall story of the trilogy. It doesn't end abruptly either, rather you are given a chance to sit with the final events and see how things unfold afterwards and how the characters deal with it and feel about it. All the plot points are well tied up at the end. The ending is rewarding and leaves you with a smile and contented.

While I am not an expert on Scottish History by any stretch of the imagination, it shows that the author has done her research. This trilogy has moved Scotland way up my wish list of places I want to see, and hope I can make it come true soon.

You'll never want to put this book down, especially as the third act draws near. If you can at all help it, try to set out some time to read this book in as little seatings as possible. This story and characters took over my brain for 4 days and it was pure bliss when reading and then torture everytime I had to put it down.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I received an ARC of The Enemy Across the Loch but as I started I felt like I needed to read the first two books again. So the last few days have been me binge-reading three books so I could be immersed in the world of the Scots. I even made oatcakes to enjoy along with the books.

To say I am obsessed with these Kasey Stockton books would be an understatement. I have never read a Scottish romance before and I fell in love with the culture, the language, and the people instantly. When I would read pieces that I got really excited about to my husband, he would encourage me to use an accent. I am terrible at accents but by the end of the third book, I think I got the hang of it. Don't quote me on that though.

The third book of this series, The Enemy Across the Loch is Miles and Ealann's story. After reading the two first books I thought for sure that Ian would get his own story and live happily ever after with a girl. I mean he has to finally get the girl right? However, this book takes a twist all on its own and it took me for a ride.

I will say I love Miles and Ealann! Ealann is a healer and I am always interested in stories of healers because I am interested in herbal remedies myself.

What a truly fascinating story that begins with strife and takes you on a roller coaster. Kasey is an amazing author and you can truly see the amount of dedicated research that had to go into these stories of Scotland. I cannot wait to see what amazing books she has planned for the future. As for this trilogy, this book was a satisfying end to the Duncan and McEwan clans' stories.

"His hand brushed her jaw, and her eyelashes fluttered closed. He dipped his head closer until he wasn’t certain if he was feeling her lips on his or just her breath. His heart raced as if he’d rowed the entire length of Loch Gileach, and he felt nothing but heat pulsing in his chest.

“Ye’re a Duncan,” she said, her lips moving faintly beneath his.

“Is that a problem?”

“Ye tell me.” "

I got this book as an ARC. This review is my own opinion and feelings on the book.

PURE DEAD BRILLIANT!!!

"If we are to establish peace, risks must be taken, aye?"
"Risks, aye. But we dinna ken yet what the risks will be. Who they will be."

Tensions build in this epic conclusion to the Myths of Moraigh Trilogy as the feud between the McEwan and Duncan clans finally comes to a head. Interwoven with the clash is the romance between Miles and Ealann. He is a Duncan, she is a McEwan. After forming a tentative friendship in the previous book, they each find themselves fighting a growing attraction and admiration for the other, despite both vowing they would never marry (or marry again in Mile's case).

Although this book takes place mainly during the eventual battle between the clans, Kasey excels at finding a way to capture the sweet/tender moments in the midst of the heart-wrenching ones.

I loved revisiting the main characters from the previous two books in the series. We were given just enough from them to update their storylines while also providing additional POVs without detracting from the main characters in this book.

Kasey hit it out of the park with this emotionally charged conclusion full of bravery, romance, intrigue, loyalty, backstabbing, and ultimately healing. (Thank you epilogue!)

*This is the third and final book in the Myths of Moraigh Trilogy. While each book has a full and complete love story, there is an overarching storyline that is best read in order.

I received an ARC of this book from the author, however, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

A great conclusion to an epic series! With this being a continuing tale through all three books, I was extra eager to see the ending and it did not disappoint! Such a great plot with amazing characters throughout. And of course a few sweet love stories thrown in the mix. The Myths of Moraigh Trilogy is officially a favorite.

The Enemy Across the Loch focuses mainly on Miles Duncan and Ealann McEwan. An unlikely match by outside standards as they belong to opposing clans with a long history of hatred and feuding. But we also get a look at events from so many points of view. I LOVE that. We get such a clear overall picture of what is occurring on all sides.

I had been eagerly anticipating Miles story since book one! He is such a kind man and truly wants peace between the clans. But that peace comes at a very heavy price. Discord, clan loyalties, and betrayal lend themselves to many unpleasant events. But at the same time, love and healing are a driving force and in the end bring about a positive conclusion.

I won’t spoil this wonderful series but I do urge you to pick it up and give it a try! It’s not your typical romance story but will leave you just as satisfied and a little bit more in tune with Scottish History and traditions.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the author. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is an awesome Scottish Highland Series filled with intrigue, clan feuding and the threat of the English troops coming in to arrest dissenters. The time period during the Jacobite Rebellion is the backdrop of these stories. They need to be read in order as the story continues from book to book.
There has been a clan feud between two neighboring clans for years. A desire for piece can only come about if the clan leaders are willing to trust one another.

Miles Duncan and Ealann McEwan live on opposites sides of the loch that is between the feuding clans. An accidental meeting in the middle of the loch has forged a fragile friendship between them. She is a healer in training and came to visit for her brother's marriage to the clan leader's daughter. She has only agreed to stay till spring because she wants to return home to continue her training. Her main goal in life is to be used to help save lives.

Miles Duncan is a widower who mourns the loss of his wife. His mother has been very sick and is not expected to live. The healer he met on the loch gave him directions to make a medicine to help his mother recover. Miles is the leader of the clan appointed by his brother-in-law. It is his desire to see peace come to the clans.

Miles and Ealann don't know that they are being used as pawns in a diabolical plan to settle the clan feud by forcing a clan war. Will they be able to overcome the plans of destruction by working together? Will their friendship grow into something more?

The story was written that you were able to feel that you were part of what was going on. The characters were wonderful and the conclusion to the series was very satisfying.

I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.

Okay, well, if the naming of your child Ian at the end didn't just totally get me.😭 I was so sad that Ian's story ended the way it did. I was rooting for him to have his own love story, but I can see why his story went the way it did, committed to the cause the way he was.

I don't think Miles stole my heart in this book...I think Ian did, but I loved the ending and appreciated that the author wasn't afraid to finally include some loss in the ending of the clan feuds. I felt like she wrapped all the threads up nicely and nothing was left hanging like so many stories that are rushed. I did think the Jacobite pin was going to be important in the end but ended up just having more symbolism than anything.

I do feel like we finally understand Ealann's distance from her brother and heart to heal. Honestly, her loyalty to Ian in the dungeon jail was what won me over to her.

I also loved that the author let us revisit Cormac and Marion so often in this book and a little of Isobel and Kieran (even if I felt they were a little underrepresented after the first book). They were my favorite couple of the three books.

Great trilogy and I felt like I truly visited Moraigh and Dulnain. 5 stars for the trilogy on the whole! 4 stars for the books individually.
