Ten years ago, a young girl saved the life of a dragon. Little did they know that they would be brought together again by the vicissitudes of fate, when Lucina’s family estate is invaded by the fearsome Tayar nation led by King Hakan. After Lucina’s selfish stepmother offers her up as a bride to Hakan in exchange for their lives, Lucina realizes that she is now fated to journey to the arid kingdom of Tayar and marry its seemingly brutish king. Will fate lead the unlikely pair to ruin or romance?
"Ha habido gobernantes a lo largo de la historia que lograron revivir un reino que se derrumbaba. En cambio, nunca oí hablar de un gobernante que lograra a su amada... después de haberla traicionado."
I knew what I was getting into when I started this webtoon. I had read a few reviews discussing the story's sexism and paternalistic elements, so no surprise there, except that perhaps those issues were not quite as bad as I had anticipated. lol That being said, misogyny and sexism are definitely problems in this story, most often of the "benevolent" variety. 🙄 It's extremely heteronormative with lots of the typical conservative tropes that can be found in stories classified as "romantasy." Plus, I found certain characters (*cough* Giaret *cough*) so irritating that I practically sped through some episodes to avoid anything to do with them, and the overall soap-opera-esque quality of the story made me consider DNFing a couple times about three quarters of the way through. Seriously, the MCs cannot catch a freaking break in this thing, often due to their own poor decision-making skills, but also because absolutely everyone is constantly out to get them to destroy their lives, happiness, etc. However, despite all of that, I still enjoyed reading it most (some?) of the time 😂, and the art really is beautiful. I can't say I would recommend it because it is problematic without question, but it was entertaining enough for a quick read to pass the time. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also, CWs for child abuse, violence, war, mental illness, abuse, grief, and murder.
I liked the beginning, it was promising, but the MMC became such a crappy person, the FMC never stood up for herself, and the book just took such a downward spiral. I kept hoping she would leave him cause he was such a jerk. Might try the webtoon, since so far they've been better than the novel versions.
