The four rules of freelance villainy are as follows:
Always wear a mask Never hurt civilians Never kill the heroes you’re paid to fight. And the bad guy always loses.
And the rules worked, until I had to take down the Heroes of Earth to get Psyren back. Now, I'm not only infamous, but have a mob of villains looking to join my 'evil' organization and take over the world. And that's the good news! The bad news is the second biggest villain on the planet wants to hire me to work a fight against his hero daughter.
Which would be fine. It's the job. Except the plot grabbed the attention of a demon having an identity crisis, who's possessing heroes and villains to try and kill me and my harem of villainesses.
Well, no one said my job was going to be easy. And I'm learning real fast how painfully true that can be.
Man this series is a delicious, delightful pleasure, and book 4 absolutely continues the joy.
There's just...nothing to dislike here. It's a pretty generic superhero setting (honestly hard to distinguish it from, say, the setting of The Immortal's Guide to Supervillainy Vol. 1, or several other similar series), but the characters are quite decent.
But what really shines is the plot, which is just a lovely bit of fun pulp-inspired nonsense. And, most of all, the humour. I absolutely laughed out loud multiple times reading this, especially with some of the absurd villain names and origin stories. (The Mighty Vent indeed...)
If you've been reading the series, you'll love this book. If you haven't, this book is a great excuse to start. Hell, it's self-contained enough (and brilliant enough) you could easily start here, and then read the previous three books once you realise what you've been missing.
Pretty good addition to the series Super powers/ super villain/ Harem / sexy / funny / being bad to do good Consistent with the series and completely on brand One complaint, The Succubus fashionista character has a dialog tic where she repeats everything. -Short statement -Simply short statement darling. This gets so old so fast. It really kills the vibe. Everything else is pretty good. Oh, excellent Mikhail Bulgakov reference in the second half. Look at Jay Aury bein' all erudite and sh*t.
As always, this story beautifully rides the waves of tropes from superhero media, you can really feel the appreciation for the classical aesthetics of villainy.
In addition, this particular installment smoothly continues the narrative after the defeat of the HoE in a way that properly builds upon the story's original themes.
My only real hangup are certain instances of weak dialogue, particularly Mammon's speaking habits, they get old fast, but otherwise this is a great book and I truly recommend it!
Another good chapter to the story, with some raised stakes
Not much else to say. If you're around this far you're here for the long haul. I feel like "I love it when a plan comes together" is apropos here... things are progressing how I was hoping they would, and some new tension at the end.
A few typos/grammar issues but otherwise still very enjoyable. Can't wait to see where it goes
Great characters and they are developed and grown in a very stylish way. Awesome execution of the action and it really opens up to a myriad of future plot options. Excellent writing and a great story/series - so much fun. Look forward to Book 5.
Maybe it is because they hit all the right nostalgic notes. Maybe because they are fun, fast reads. Maybe because they have the right balance of quirky, snarky and sassy. Who knows? But they do.
After taking on the Heros of Earth and their controller who attempted to take Psyren, our MC has to deal with a mega villain who tries to screw him over
Good addition but the series seems to be hitting the wall of too many harem members. The first girl Glacia is relegated to the MCs secretary and not really doing much else.
I will probably read the next but not really excited as you can tell where it will kinda go next.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was funny and entertaining. The story and characters were incredibly interesting and engaging. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. This book and series is definitely worth checking out.
While Victor plays the part of a villain who loses for pay, someone who manipulates one of the four fundamental forces of the universe should never be underestimated, as even a demon of Hell will discover.
The book overall was good I like the layout I like the characters but there was just something a little boring about the book as well because There was a lot of Sexy sexy sexy sexy in the book But no real Substance it was like eating candy all the time but at some point you want some of the meat and potatoes the characters are the women around the main protagonist we really didn't get to see any of their personality in this we didn't really get to see them interacted with 1 another Or the real intense loyalty that they are supposed to have for 1 another.
