"Hair Today, Dead Tomorrow" is Book 1 of the Spring Harbor Cozy Mystery series, written by Amber Crewes. This was a really good book about a young woman named Summer Snow, who travels from Atlanta, Georgia after "an incident" occurred, cross country to Spring Harbor, California, to stay with her Aunt Clara at an RV Park. The "incident" was never really explained, except that Summer had to quickly leave. In Atlanta, she worked as a clerk in a law firm, and she had to get away from a escaped criminal named Mr. DaVilla. Maybe she witnessed a murder. . .but, it never specifically tells us. When she arrives in Spring Harbor, she is picked up by her aunt, who drives a yellow Volkswagen Beetle, called the Punch Buggy. In Spring Harbor, she enters a Christmas Crazy Hair Contest, even though it is only like September or October, because later in the book, there is a Fall Ball with pumpkin decorations. Anyway, Summer, and her hair model, Aunt Clara, win the contest, pictures are taken and texted to her best friend, Vanessa, and the crazy hairstyle trends all around the world. Will Mr. DaVilla find her from these pictures? And then, the next day, the woman who might have wanted to buy the entire RV village, as well as a slew of other businesses, is found murdered, with Summer's blow dryer cord wrapped around her neck. Now, Summer can't leave town, and neither can Aunt Clara, because they are suspects in the woman's murder. So, Summer decides to find the killer. While doing that, she meets "a very handsome" man named Evan, who owns the local coffee/ice cream float shop, his sister, and his young niece. She also meets Carl, Aunt Clara's gentleman friend; the Beesley ladies, a pair of elderly sisters that Summer thinks are twins; Sheriff Ron Brady; the dead woman's daughter, Jennifer, and the dead woman's young husband, Mario; the dead woman's ex-husband, Frank; Alex, a young woman Summer meets, who becomes instant friends with her; and several other quirky characters. She also finds the cutest little beagle puppy and names him Barney. By the time the real murderer is found, both Summer and Aunt Clara are almost killed. And, now that Summer loves Spring Harbor so much, will she still leave town to stay with her parents? Will she find a job she truly loves and decide to stay in Spring Harbor? Will Mr. DaVilla turn up to hurt Summer? I really enjoyed this book and gave it a 5 star rating. I received an advanced reader's copy, and this is my voluntary honest review.
Hair Today, Dead Tomorrow is book 1 in a new cozy series by Amber Crewes. I believe that this new series is fantastic. I think the characters are fun..Summer May is visiting her Aunt Clara and her aunt is a hoot! Retired police detective Carl "likes" Clara. A murder at the trailer park with fingers pointing to Summer, of course she and Clara must look into things along with Earl. This author writes amazing cozy mysteries and I feel that this new series is a home run. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
A wonderful first book in a new series by Amber Crewes. In this book we meet Summer Snow, a hairdresser who runs from her town in Georgia because of an "incident" she hopes will eventually be forgotten to stay with her Aunt Clara. As soon as she gets to Aunt Clara's, she finds her aunt enrolled them in a funny hair contest and they win. But, as things would have it, one of the mouthy townswomen is found dead, choked with the cord Summer's hair dryer and since Aunt Clara had words with the woman previously, she becomes suspect number one as well as Summer. So of course it is up to the two of them to clear their names. This is a great start to the new series and the main characters, Summer and Aunt Clara are people you could be friends with. And of course, you can't help but like Evan, Carl and Barney! With humor and mystery, the author keeps you turning pages until the surprising ending. I can't wait to see what will happen with these characters next! I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
This was a very engaging and fun to read mystery. The characters were personable, and the plot was well written. Summer Snow visits her Aunt Clara in the small town of Bay Bluff, California. While there, Summer styles her aunt's hair in a local crazy hair contest, and they win the first place prize. Later, a local woman is found dead at the recreation center where the contest took place with the blow dryer that Summer used on Aunt Clara's hair wrapped around her neck. Aunt Clara is accused of her murder, and Summer investigates the death in an attempt to clear her aunt's name. This book has intrigue and a hint of romance. I highly recommend it to other cozy mystery readers. I received an ARC of this book, and the opinion expressed is strictly my own.
A lighthearted cozy mystery with murder. In a small town RV campsite and an array of colorful and quirky characters that draw you in but remember this wouldn't be a mystery without a deadly schemer hidden in plain sight and that's where you're enticed further through intrigue, lies, secrets and betrayal in a plot you won't be able to fallow turning page after excitingly charming page until you've reached its unexpected and climatic conclusion. I couldn't put it down between laughing and rolling my eyes I was definitely entertained. Acquire " Hair Today, Dead Tomorrow so you yourself can enjoy it as much as I have. Kat
'Hair Today, Dead Tomorrow' was delightful. Moreover, the amusing plot was filled with hilarity, suspicion, suspense, tension, secrets, and a busybody. Summer and her quirky Aunt Clara, the main characters, were entertaining. A certain busybody tried to prove her and Clara's innocence as well as find the actual culprit(s). In the meantime, was a romance budding? Also, what about the adorable puppy? Overall, I liked the light-hearted narrative which kept me guessing throughout. I received a copy for free and am voluntarily giving my honest review.
Love this author and this new series is so fun. Our main character Summer Snow is hiding out in California with her aunt after some past issue in Atlanta. Her aunt is a hoot! She lives in an RV and has a mind of her own! Summer and Aunt Clara enter and win a hairdressing competition, but the next morning a body is found. They are the main suspects as far as the sheriff is concerned. A good puzzle and a little romance keep things moving right along. Quick, fun read.
Welcome to Spring Harbour and a new amateur sleuth, Summer Snow. While visiting her aunt, hairstylist Summer enters her into a local hairdressing competition, but when they win they also become murder suspects when a dead body is found with Summer's hairdryer wrapped around their neck!
This is a short lighthearted read that will have you rooting for Summer and her Aunt Clara as they try to figure out who did the deadly deed. It's good clean fun and the characters are likeable and engaging. A great start to a new series that I really enjoyed.
This was such a fun and cute opener for a new series for this author. I’ve read quite a few in her Sandy Bay series and knew she could create some seriously awesome and relatable characters. I loved meeting Summer, Aunt Clara, Carl, Evan and of course Barney! (You’ll find out who he is when you read the book). Aunt Clara and Summer were quite the team during the showdown with the killer. I enjoyed reading a sneak preview to the next book and now I definitely can’t wait till it’s out!
Brilliant , immersive cosy mystery . Aunt Clara is a hoot , she enrols them in a funny hair contest that they win, but a local woman has been murdered and the ‘ weapon’ is one of Summer’s . An hair raising murder mystery ensues as Aunt and hairdresser niece Summer have to find the true culprit . I thoroughly enjoyed this light read story and look forward to reading the next instalment of the series I read an advance copy and my review is left voluntarily in my own words
Another amazing story to keep you intrigued. Summer and her aunt Clara win a chance at a hairdressing competition. Crazy hair at that. What should have been fun, turns deadly. A murder no less. Now they have to find out what happened before they’re accused. Lighthearted and suspenseful at the same time.
This new series promises to be a must read!!! I stayed up all night reading it. The characters are great, the setting is a small town where everybody knows your business! All the makings of the perfect cozy! A hardheaded female sleuth, a feisty grandmother, possible new love interest, lovable puppy, with small town ambience. I received an arc copy from my honest opinion.
Great start to a new series! Trying to outrun an incident in her hometown, Summer heads to visit her aunt across the country. This was a fun read with interesting characters that I’m looking forward to getting to know better. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next in the series. I received a complimentary copy of this book and chose to write a voluntary, unbiased review.
What a twisted, fun book to read. And to think it was just supposed to be a way to flee trouble. Small town life takes are deadly turn and makes this book something to read from cover to cover just to figure out who is who and why they hate each other. Cannot wait to see what follows in the next "chapter".
Summer was staying with Aunt Clara when they are suspected of murder. I enjoyed reading about her investigation to clear Aunt Clara's name and catch the real murderer. When the real murderer was caught, I was delighted that Summer decided to stay and work at a hair salon.
I will never enjoy giving out less than stellar reviews! It feels like this book is a case of lazy writing. Kinda like someone (the author) was pushed for time and just cranked out a story to get the money. IF you don't love writing stories, it shows. There is huge potential here, but very little feeling.
And why did Summer leave Atlanta? Which is the reason she is visiting Aunt Clara, a feisty woman with a mind of her own. Engaging characters, a charming town, a new life. A pleasant new series sure to impress. Highly Recommended.
I receive this as an ARC book and this is my honest review.
I throughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. It contains all the necessary elements of a cozy mystery and will keep you entertained throughout.
I don’t want to give anything away. You need to read this for yourself. Enjoy!
I truly enjoyed this book. The characters are really interesting and fun. I loved the plot line. The twists and turns made the book enjoyable. I plan to read more from this author.

What a wonderfully delightful story. The characters are believable, for a small town cozy mystery, that is. LOL A hairdressing competition and a murder. The zany hairdos are descriptive enough that you can see them in your mind's eye. If your looking for a relaxing (as much as a murder can be relaxing), fun story where our prognostic must help investigate as both she and her aunt are under suspicion for the murder.
I received a free copy of this book and volunteered an honest review.

Summer decides to head to Bay Bluff, California to visit her Aunt Clara after things got a little heated in Atlanta. She arrives in time for the Fall Festival, and Aunt Clara promptly hands her a flyer about it and announces that they are entering the Crazy Hair Contest. Summer hasn’t done hair for a while but does a great job on Aunt Clara’s long white hair! It’s just supposed to be a friendly competition, but then a dead body is found in the room, and clues seem to point to Aunt Clara and Summer. The Sheriff seems to be in over his head so Summer has to investigate to prove their innocence! I received a free ARC of this book which I thoroughly enjoyed, and I write this review voluntarily.
