Picked this up at Powell's last year, and grabbed it at random from my shelf this week. It's great! First time for me for this author and for this PI. And, even better, it's the first in a relatively short series. Brett writes with a lot of humor, and McGrath is just the right blend of vulnerable, wry, dogged, and mildly indestructible. Very much in the Shell Scott vein. The plot was also solid, with McGrath juggling two clients: a newly widowed woman who's being stalked by a former acquaintance of her recently deceased husband a spy who wants McGrath to protect him from unknown assailants who want him dead. McGrath plows through both in short order. I'll definitely be checking out the next one in this series at a minimum.
