Am I a sweet prince, or terrible devil? Why not both?
My name is Prince Sebastian Force, and my entire family was killed before my eyes. I would have been slain too if not for the only loyal knight in the castle carrying me off and saving my life. Sir Lucan is brave, brutal, handsome - and a lot older than me. He is everything I am not. I love clothes, jewels, and… men. But no prince of the Kingdom of Force is suffered to be gay. I know if Lucan had any idea of the desires I harbor for him he would abandon me immediately. So I must be strong, even though I am the weakest I have ever been. Everything has been taken from me. My family. My castle. My crown. Now I am hunted like an animal, forced to live like a peasant, and facing certain death if Lucan ever leaves my side. The knight has no patience for my spoiled tastes. When I defy him, he whips me. Perhaps I should hate him for that, but… I love him. I need him. And I am terrified of what will happen when he discovers who - and what, I really am.
The Devil's Son is a dark MM forbidden love age gap romance set in a fantasy world. Recommended for mature readers only.
Amazon Top 100, USA Today bestselling, and #1 bestselling author in multiple Amazon categories, Loki Renard writes sizzling hot, occasionally dark and twisted stories of dominance, submission and discipline.
Was this amazing? No. But it was amusing. I was looking for something easy to read, and this was easy to read.
Sebastian really carried the story for me. I love this delulu prince, who treasure cake, clothes and books above all else. I’m with you on the cake and books, Seb. And he is a Sad Boy TM Lite. Not quite self aware enough to realize he should be a real Sad Boy TM.
I assumed based on the pacing that this will be a series, and while it does have a kinda satisfying end, I wasn’t shocked to see the author’s afterword mentioning the intent to continue. Though, I likely will not continue with it.
And that mainly comes down to Lucan. I don’t really like Lucan. He is pretty ‘meh’ as a character. I also don’t like the beatings. Because, lets face it, spanking and whipping isn’t kinky when one person didn’t consent to it, and the other is only using it as corporal punishment. Does Seb get off on it? Yeah. Does that really change my opinion on it? Not really. I actually almost DNFd in the prologue when Lucan spanks him and Sebastian thinks of that as his first time having sex with someone else, since he came. No, Seb. Just no. Go run off with the pretty tailor, please.
Nothing really happens in this book. It was too repetitive and the ending was disappointing. I truly lost interest at 58%, but decided to keep going and was let down further. The author lures you in with the promise of secret magic, that is not mentioned again until towards the disappointing end.
Spoiler alert!
Sebastian's abusive parents die and he finds out he's part demon, that's about it.
There is a promise of the story continuing, but I am utterly uninterested.

It was actually a very interesting read. Includes : ✅️ - Slow burn (until the end and a spicy quick scene) ✅️ - Cliffhanger ✅️ - Whinny and sassy prince ✅️ - Duty full knight ✅️ - 2 days survival (the whole book) ✅️ - Big revelations at the end
Sebastian (the prince) is actually a real brat. He's annoying, whinny, but you cannot not feel compassion for him. He was sheltered during his whole life, he doesn't know better, doesn't know how life works. But I still wanted to give him a correction myself a few times, because he was too sassy and was really pissing me off. Lucan is the knight that will follow Sebastian through hell and he's the one that will give Seb the weeping that I SO wanted him to have. Thank you sir.
There's a love story, but it's far from the being the main topic of the book, it's actually desire and longing during the whole book. Seb need to survive due to the events that happened and Lucian will help him. It's like a slow burn (really slow) and there's a small union at the end of the book (that will have consequeeennnceeess for the whole world).
The whole story is 2 days long, so don't search for a complex quest (for this book), because yes, there's a cliffhanger at the end, but not a dramatic one. A lot of revelations happen in the lest 15-20% of the book, so you really need to buckle up, but I was really pleased with that fantastic touch, waiting from the beginning of the book for that magic to happen. And even if Sebastian is presented as the main and most important character, Lucian is revealed to be as important as him, his rôle being upgraded drastically towards the end.
I actually recommend this book, but as I said, there's a cliffhanger at the end, so be ready. And if you're not satisfied with the cut at the end, you can subscribe to the newsletter and get a small bonus chapter (I did read it and it was a cute addition I have to say).
I really hate to say this because I usually love Loki Renard's books, but I truly disliked this book. I did not like Sebastian and felt no connection to his character.
It seemed to take forever for anything to happen, although it was really only about 45 pages of mostly nothing happening. I actually said, "good god, this is boring" just a few pages before the "event" happened and was ready to give it up but decided to give it a few more pages. But when the big event happened, I mostly didn't care because Sebastian didn't seem to care, and it was happening to him.
Both MC's are written in such a detached fashion that it is hard to care what happens to them. I didn't feel any attraction between Sebastion and his knight, although you are told over and over how infatuated he was with Sir Lucian. I know Sebastian was overly sheltered but good grief, even a spoiled brat should have enough self-awareness to be more concerned with staying alive than with his new suit being ruined but nope that isn't Sebastion. His character is totally unbelievable, IMO, and not very likable either.
This is the first M/M book by Renard I have read, and I am not impressed by it. In my opinion, one of the worse things about this book is it isn't even a complete book. I hate when authors don't finish a story but give it to you in installments. If I had known that this was a serial book, I would never have downloaded it.
I cannot recommend this book, although this author has many other fine books out there...complete books.
I love a good Loki book. This one had such a great world build and start to a story it just never gets to the story. It ends at the climax (almost literally...) With no resolution or even really explanation of what's happening. And a LOT needs to be unpacked from that last chapter...
As her brat characters tend to be, Seb is insufferable. It does get repetitive. There's some inconsistencies (like when Seb's bum is described as pale and undermuscled, and then later described as thick and juicy, little things but takes you out of the story in your head).
If this had been condensed to half the length and then the other half be the explanation and conclusion that would have been perfect. But as is it's more of a cliffhanger book 1.
You can't help but feel a little sorry for Sebastian, although he is his own worst enemy at times. His parents dislike him, the their dislike and awful behavior to him has caused the whole court to treat him likewise, in other words Sebastian is an unhappy young man. But, that same disdain and abuse is what saves his life. Lucan tries his best to protect Sebastian but he's too busy having a minor melt down after what has happened (you'll have to read the story to see what awful thing happened) His actions come across as a spoiled brat but to me he's lost, scared and grieving. A great tale with a frustrating ending, but at lest there is more to come.
I actually really liked this. What I didn’t like was how the book felt like part 1 of 2 and fucking 2 isn’t out!!
Loved the writing, and the whole set up. I mean, spoiled snotty prince bent over on the lap of his father’s head knight? Sign me up x4. And the story wasn’t just sex either, there was something between them that grew over the course of the story from just infatuation to something more.
This was good. It got so much better towards the end of the book. Omg so many questions … I love that magic wasn’t introduced until the end and it opened up a whole other world that didn’t exist at all during the book til the end. I can’t wait for the next book to see where this goes. This has so much potential , please don’t fuck it up Loki Renard.
This had potential. Unfortunately it took too long to get to the reason for the title by which time I knew this was either going to be a rush job to finish or a cliffhanger. It was a cliffhanger but am I invested enough to follow it through? The author states they plan to continue the series later in the year but I’m not sure yet whether I will.
I love this adventure of demons and magic that’s so refreshing and different from other books. It does leave with a cliffhanger as we wait to read the next book with Sebastian and Lucan. I’d let the world burn too as I am selfish and owe no one anything.
The best thing about this book is the cover, so beautiful. The story is honestly super ridiculous and pretty nonexistent, honestly. That being said, I only made it through the first couple of chapters. It was that bad. I couldn't even make it to the smut.
DNF page 120 Sebastian kept acting like a spoiled brat and just didn't seem to understand that his life was in danger. To teach him a lesson, Knight Lucan, the so-called love interest, kept hitting him or whipping him. This is just a nope for me.
I quickly read this book this afternoon and it struck me as being a quick smutty book for those with a spanking kink. If you desire the bratty mc and dominant older men trope putting them in their place then this is the book for you. It was a bit rushed and ended on a cliffhanger but the author said she planned on doing another.
In spanking tropes, the MC is a brat that justifies the dominant MC punishing them. But Sebastian was so bratty that he was truly stupid and unlikable. He never redeemed himself. Also, the book ended in a cliffhanger.
