After his father's Royal Air Force plane is shot down, eleven-year-old Finneus Winch is sent to stay with his grandparents in the quiet town of Pickridge. But when a small Royal Mail airplane crashes in his grandparents' backyard, Finn finds that Pickridge is far from boring. With the pilot nowhere to be found, Finn snatches a bag of post from the cargo hold just before the plane disappears. Finn sets off to deliver the post to the unusual residents of Pickridge, and along the way discovers that each letter contains a clue, and he's being sent on a secret mission.

One of my favorite middle grade adventures! I love love love these characters!

Filled with quirky, colorful characters, codes, puzzles, cyphers, and a plethora of delicious onions (that's right, onions), POST CRASH will keep you turning the pages, wanting to solve the big mystery right along with Finn and his spunky sidekick Vera.

Brief Synopsis:
After losing his dad in the war, Finneus Winch is sent to live with his grandmum and granddad for the summer so his mum can get things in order without having to worry about whatever mischief Finn might get up to. Pickridge, the quaint English town to which he is sent, seems quite dull until Finn witnesses a small plane crash and discovers a bag of post in the wreckage--including a letter addressed to Finn from his dead dad. When Finn decides to deliver the various letters and packages himself in order to find more clues that will help him decipher the cryptic letter from his father, he learns that Pickridge is anything but dull and things aren't always what they seem.

POST CRASH is a middle grade gem!

I read the descriptive blurb on the back and got an inkling of what to expect from author, Bethany Shady. I am happy to report that the book surpassed my expectations. From first to last page I was immersed in the fanciful English village of Pickridge. Shady deftly crafts a quirky world populated with lovably eccentric characters of all sorts and sensibilities. Finneus, a steadfast and good-natured kid, embarks on a quest to unravel an intriguing mystery surrounding an enigmatic bag of mail that he finds in the ruins of a plane crash. Things really rev up when Finneus’s plucky neighbor, Vera, joins the expedition in her motorbike with attached sidecar. The plot unfolds as the two pals unravel a string of strange clues that lead to a satisfying end. Fear not. The story continues with an enticing clue to the next book in the trilogy. Yay, what a fun book! POST CRASH is a perfect addition to my shelf of favorites. Read it, you’ll be happy you did.

What a fun read! I'm obviously not the target audience, but I picked it up anyway because I needed a change from the non-fiction I've been reading.

Shady weaves a great fantasy. I'm looking forward to the rest of the trilogy. :)

A fun tale of odd but lovable characters who find themselves on the adventure of a lifetime. An excellent book to read with your child/grandchild or just for your own inner child.

What a great book! Bethany, it was so fun reading something from you - I hope there are more coming! The characters were great, and all had detailed funny unique aspects about them, but the book was nicely paced for kiddos.
