Priscilla is walking with her dog on the beach when she finds an old suitcase that washed up on shore. There is no id inside. So Priscilla and her cousins try to find the owner. Things start happening Jake goes missing. He is found at a Vet's on the other side of the island. When she and cousin Gail return after picking up Jake someone is coming out of Priscilla's home. Priscilla finds an item of great value in the suitcase and hides it for safekeeping. She and the cousins look into the other items in the suitcase. Priscilla Latham finds a suitcase in the water by her home in Martha's Vineyard and sets out on a quest to find its owner. She discovers a pouch with uncut diamonds hidden in the suitcase and becomes involved in the mysterious hunt for the owner.
I didn't care for the lead character Priscilla which took away enjoyment of the novel. I can't put the reason into words, I just never connected with her.
