Warm beds, quaint mysteries, and the best rosemary bread this side of Pigsend Creek. Welcome to the Weary Dragon Inn.
Bev may not know who she was before she showed up in the quaint village of Pigsend five years ago, but that doesn’t bother her much. She’s made a tidy little life for herself as the proprietor of the Weary Dragon Inn, where the most notable event is when she makes her famous rosemary bread.
But when earthquakes and sinkholes start appearing all over town, including near Bev’s front door, she’s got to put on her sleuthing hat to figure out what—or who—might be causing them before the entire town disappears.

S. Usher Evans is an author, blogger, and witty banter aficionado. Born in Pensacola, Florida, she left the sleepy town behind for the fast-paced world of Washington, D.C.. There, she somehow landed jobs with BBC, Discovery Channel, and National Geographic Television before finally settling into a "real job" as an IT consultant. After a quarter life crisis at age 27, she decided consulting was for the birds and rekindled a childhood passion for writing novels. She sold everything she owned and moved back to Pensacola, where she currently resides with her two dogs, Zoe and Mr. Biscuit.
A nice breath of fresh air in between some heavier fantasy series, this is the perfect settle down with a cup of tea cozy book.
The setting: Pigsend, a charming small town in a fantasy world where the anti-magic queen is set on removing magic entirely.
The main character: Bev, a cheery innkeeper who has forgotten everything about her life prior to showing up in this small town one day.
The story: Mischief and shenanigans! The silliest little mysteries keep popping up and nobody else is curious enough to try and solve them. Enter Bev and her knack for running into the truth!
This is a slower paced, cozy mystery type fantasy with a fun and diverse cast of characters!
Super interesting. Bev the main character has an unknown past. She literally cannot remember. She owns the Inn in her small town, when suddenly random sinkholes start appearing. No one really wants to do the footwork to investigate the reason behind the sinkholes, but they all want the answers. Bev is voluntold to do the investigating. This book is full of intrigue and interesting turns. Makes me want to read the rest of the series. There’s seems to be a secret plot to sabotage Pisgend festival. Literally every competition or competitor seems to be eliminated for now real reason… or at least it feels that way. Then mysterious things happen & Bev gets a dog. Cutest dog ever lol. Seriously I love Biscuit! Ug & the bad guy is seriously frustrating! Excellent mystery though. What’s worse than getting snowed in on your travels…being a suspect in blackmail!! They was a fascinating mystery. Had me on the edge of my seat especially since I love the Witzel’s!!
Great omnibus for the first three books in this ongoing series. S. Usher Evans appears to be the cozy equivalent to Brandon Sanderson with how many of these books are coming out over the last two years. I love it!
The first book is a tough read, in my opinion. Evans introduces far too many characters within the first 15 pages and then it turns out almost all of those characters are incredibly unlikable and treat the protagonist quite poorly throughout the book. The initial mystery is fairly low stakes, but I don't agree with other commenters who bemoan that "nothing happens" in this book. Quite a bit happens and there's a good amount of world building that sets up this series in the book. I recommend this book solely because of how much the following books do improve upon it.
The next two books are a delight and improve upon each other. While many of the townsfolk are still somewhat unlikable, they don't feature nearly as much and certainly not all at once. The second book also brings the arrival of an adorable and mischievous dog for our main character that brings a ton of levity and joy into this series.
I recommend picking these books up! Get the narration too! Just know the first book feels heavier/darker than the rest and while each books has a fairly lower stake self-contained mystery, this series provides a slightly higher stakes series long mystery as well!
I found the Stories book 1-3 interesting and amusing. In each of the 3 stories the main character Bev is put in a position of solving a mystery she feels whole out of her abilities to do, but everyone expects it of her. So not a Cosy Mystery just a mystery set in this world and town of Pig's End. Narrator does a pleasent job with the entire storyline and the various characters.
An entertaining mystery set in a fantasy world where magic is outlawed and those with it are hunted by the Royal soldiers. Great value with three books in one and each story is unique and a fun read. Highly recommend.
I liked the mature mc that wasn’t wasting my time or hers lusting after some hunk. Looking forward to reading about her back story. I like the inclusion of LGBTQI+ characters in a totally natural way. Not at all a stretch to see them interact.
You can see all my reviews for each individual book on their pages. However, if you want a few cozy mysteries to help you relax and enjoy a fantastical town, this is a great bang for your buck! 3 great stories all in one.
These books are ok. I listened to them on audiobook as I drove to and from work. They’re simple stories with no major themes. I don’t really have any complaints about the books as I really live Bev and Biscuit, but there just wasn’t enough meat to make me want to continue the series.
Great series of books. The characters are all vividly described and very colorful and the town is super cute. I love Bev as a main character and can't wait to see what she gets up to next.
It took me a bit to get into these audiobooks, but the performance was great, and the stories were interesting with a bit of the supernatural. I hope to continue the series.
When you're looking for a pleasant listen, that's not too taxing, but not insulting your intelligence either, this is a very good choice. I will be seeking out further tales in this series.
