The title Still Standing is literal. Often people go through things that break them. How would you handle being diagnosed with more than 5 diseases before the age of 30? KS Oliver takes you into her world of pain and Lupus. She has had more x-rays, CT scans, surgeries and blood work performed than one can count and is Still Standing.
This is my first read by the author but would not be my last. Still Standing takes the readers on a journey of being a survivor. Although KS Oliver battles every day, she still finds the strength to be positive and move about her day. As outlined in this poetry book, the author has a strong support system and two sons that motivate her to fight through the pain each day. KS Oliver shows through the power of prayer, even when it is questioned, we can overcome our struggles. The author vividly displays how each day is a struggle and lets readers in on her innermost thoughts on the day she received her diagnosis.
This poetry book is very inspirational. You will have a range of emotions as you read through it. I applaud this young woman for bringing this debilitating disease to the forefront of society and letting readers know there is no "certain look" for those suffering from Lupus. She is a true SURVIVOR!
I respected this woman way before I read this book BUT the level of respect I have for this woman now is at great heights. Being a poetry writer myself, this was everything to me. My hats off to you, Ms. Lady!
This book broke my heart and make me admire this author and always do my best and any task I do in my life. The author is a woman of excellence who is a living example for all woman that you can accomplish anything you sit your mind to do you can do
Still Standing a book of poetry of a strong black women that has dealt with a lot of bad news and has held her head high. Her strong faith in god and her beautiful two sons has kept her standing. This is an emotional book for me because my uncle died of Lupus. K.S Oliver is a true testimony that the devil is a lie and god is in control. Can't wait to read more of her books.
