The second installment in a dark obsession fantasy romance duet set in a city of warring vampire clans, perfect for fans of Haunting Adeline, From Blood and Ash, and Gild.
Scarlett
All my life, I’ve been scorned for what I an object of desire, a temptress, a demon. Now my dark and mysterious powers of seduction might be my only salvation.
I am living in a nightmare. Rune’s voice torments me. Cruel hands offer touch and torture that I cannot refuse. My addictive blood spurs obsession and frenzy, but I am not defenseless. The born vampires can’t fathom the embodiment of wrath and vengeance they are forging from sin and blood.
Rune
All her life, I have watched her from the shadows. Now she haunts my every moment, my every dream. She is the vastness of an ocean, the radiance of a field of stars, the deep darkness of divine feminine rage.
Valentin is in a state of upheaval. One wrong move could provoke the annihilation of everything my clan has built, the destruction of the city my Scarlett adores. I am trapped by duty, bound by loyalty. But each day that passes without my Little Flame, the more famished my shadows become.
One day, they will feast.

Dare I say, even if you read book 1 you may still need a trigger warning for book 2??? We are getting dark and kinky.
What a ride. This is going on my list for unhinged 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ reads. Normally that many chili’s means the plot is fighting for its life… but the story was great !!! I really enjoyed this duology. Morally grey vampire bdsm shadow daddy? Yes please and thank you.
This duology was actually really good. I do have to say, before you go into this series, I would read the triggers and the warnings. This book especially gets very dark and brutal for a good chunk of the story. It does seem as if it will be never ending, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
I am fully in my vampire era and this book did not leave you disappointed. It had the dark aspects of a vampire romance but it also had a great story line and had a HEA of course.
I also really enjoyed the writing and how the characters were portrayed in this book. The first one was definitely more focused on the MMC and the FMC learning about one another, while also seeing a whole new world through Scarlets eyes. While the second book was more about Scarlet getting her revenge, finding herself, and finally learning about who she is.
Overall, a great read for someone who loves the darker side of romance with some bitey kind of love🩸
DNFd at 80%. I’m not sure how one of my most anticipated reads of the year was such a let down. This book did not feel anything like the first. The flow was weird and I really wanted to see Scarlett kick everyone’s ass and Rune right beside her supporting her but it was so drawn out. I’m all for healing from traumas and finding your strength but it felt like zero progress in their actual storylines.

I enjoyed this, but I have to say, I think this could’ve been more condensed. The first half of this book is absolutely brutal, but the FMC grows so much.
This book is a lot more serious, the lovestory takes a backseat so our FMC can grow into herself, which was nice.
While I enjoyed her growth, the things she went through was a lot, and again, i felt didn’t need to be as long.
4⭐️. Once the dark part of the book was over, it was nice to see such vast character development across the board for the main characters. A lovely ending to the book as well, with minimal open questions. Excited to read the bonus chapters for a last few moments with Scarlett and Rune ❤️
- I hate that it feels like in every fantasy/romantasy now, the fmc has to be put through the worst trauma imaginable AND has to be seen to be “strong” throughout/in their recovery rather than simply falling apart like anyone would
- the vast majority of this book was just reading sexual violence and torture tbh which is genuinely really horrible, but also completely empty and uninteresting. Once I’ve read one really horrible, triggering scene, there is absolutely no desire or reason for me to read another one
- While I understand that the difference between the acts undertaken by Durian v Rune is consent, the two were so similar at times that I didn’t understand how after everything with Durian, the fmc was just okay with basically going through the similar scenes and dynamics with Rune. Would this not only be the most triggering thing in the world to you but also, at the very very least, not a sexy thing for you anymore? Some of the labels and acts were the same thing?? It just felt wrong to me and it just felt very uncomfortable
- The moment a guy mentioned even ONCE that they’re my “god”, I would be out of there like a shot wdym you find it hot, especially after your previous captor did the same shit?
- So much of the language and writing around trauma just felt like weird therapy speak. Like this book was either making you read a character being assaulted to the worst degree, or it was intellectualising her healing journey in a way that felt lifted straight from a self-help book. Truly bizarre and also very cringey. Felt completely thin too, like who are you kidding?
The beginning of this was brutal. Scarlett is the “human” pet of the enemy, and boy does Maggie Sunseri know how to write a villian. Durian is twisted enough that I made a sandwich and couldn’t actually eat it until after chapter 32. Read your trigger warnings. Just as I was starting to think it was never going to end, Scarlett eventually starts to find herself and take her power back. While Scarlett is trapped in that hell hole with the born, she finds her only ally and eventually friend in Rosalind, and their relationship becomes a safe haven that really made me love Rosalind. Once Scarlett is out of enemy territory, I was LIVING for the revenge plot!!! Rune helps her get her revenge, and it is so so sweet!! Rune and Scarlett finally get their HEA and everything ends perfectly!
Okay, I liked this book much more than Stalked by Seduction and Shadows!
Taken by Touch and Torment was brutal. And beautiful. The first half of this book is quite dark with themes of SA, trauma, and torture, so please please PLEASE check TWs before reading!!
Poor Scarlett has been through so much. The overall villain of this duet, Durian, is DIABOLICAL and I honestly could not hate a man more.
Once Scarlett found her way back to Rune, her road to recovery and healing is quite cathartic. I loved how she was able to take her power back. Their relationship was so sweet, and the way they both learned to trust in each other again was the most heartwarming part of it all.
Overall, I enjoyed the Eternal Obsession duet, though I definitely think I preferred Everlasting Possession more :D
pre-read
I'm definitely in my vampire era 👀 Excited to see the direction Rune and Scarlett's relationship will take!!
Thank you so much to Maggie for the e-ARC! This was a fantastic conclusion to Scarlett and Rune’s story. It’s dark and hard to read at times, but it is also a tale of discovering who *you* are in your soul and coming into your full power. Scarlett’s journey was so amazing to read. As always, the romance was extremely sweet, and it felt very believable as well. All in all, this was a great conclusion to the Eternal Obsession Duet, and I have a feeling Kylo will be getting a novel next 👀
I cannot begin to describe how happy I am that I continued this duology!! I rated the first book at 4 stars, so I was not about to DNF the series by any means. But the plot in the first book, to me, could've been better. However, I knew that there was plenty of potential, so I was still eager to read the next book. And I can confidently say that book two exceeded the first by leaps and bounds!
The plot had a much darker tone, and the politics and deceit between the born and turned vampires was so interesting! There were a handful of times that this book had me on the edge of my seat. Also, the way the author addresses trauma and healing, and the dialogue she uses in discussions regarding trauma, closure, and just hardships of life in general were deep and poetic. There are so many quotes I saved that I feel deep in my soul.
My ratings for both Rune and Scarlett's characters have been bumped up compared to book one as well. Scarlett is so strong, so brave, and an all-around magnificent character. And Rune had so much more depth this time around. It wasn't just the passion and obsession I felt between them this time, but the all-consuming love, devotion, and worship that comes from two people who are true soulmates.
So overall, if you've finished book one and are, by any chance, reading the reviews and wondering if it's worth it to finish the duology, this is your sign to download amd read book two immediately!!

Dnf 80% biggest problems I had: character development wasn’t just development it was rewriting an entire character. She was literally tort*red and SAd but then it’s okay when the MMC does it and she doesn’t have any trauma from it? She also goes from being meek and just a girl from the “dry lands” to leading the war council and being the best war strategist they’ve ever seen? Let me raise my eyebrows a bit higher. The other issue I have is that the majority of this book feels like one self-help/what-i-learned-at-therapy dump. Like cool sprinkle some of that in but I don’t need to sit in on the therapy sessions.
Call me a square or a prude or whatever, but me thinks that 240 pages of on page torture and degradation is a littttlllleeeee much even for dark romantasy. Couldn’t continue on after that
I read the first book in the 𝙀𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙊𝙗𝙨𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙙𝙪𝙚𝙩 TWICE already and I just knew I would love the sequel. I’m devastated it’s over but oh so happy with how it ended. No spoilers. 👇🏻
Maggie has floored me once again with a series (I LOVED 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀)! 🙌🏻 This book picks up right where we left off in the last one (and it was a doozy of a cliffy) and boy is this book so much darker. Right from the get-go. I absolutely loved Maggie’s writing though and I’m obsessed with how she writes her FMCs. So full of rage and betrayal and love and hope and trauma…So. Much. Trauma. Scarletts character arc in this book is extreme and truly shows she is a “little flame”. She overcomes and perseveres. Her resilience drove this story.
And Rune. “𝘔𝘺 𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴.” His obsession, passion, and desire for Scarlett was to die for, seriously Maggie, can you write a more perfect male?!
If I don’t have a Shadow Daddy Rune before I die, well, I may never die a fully happy woman. I pray to Helia I die in my dreams. 🧎♀️➡️🙏🏻
This book is dense but it’s paced so well with two POVs between Rune and Scarlett. We have several side characters, some new, some old. Her world building is exquisite (always raving about this in her books, seriously), she has this extraordinary talent to really pull you into the story, her characters are built with so much depth and background (even the side characters, I’m looking at you Snow and Sadie), and the plot moves effortlessly despite the length of this chunky book and the absolute despair I went through in the first half. It was worth it though. She really tears you down and builds you back up with this one. That epilogue was EVERYTHING. 🥹
Now if only I could lose my memory so I could read it for the first time again. 😭 If you are looking for a fresh take on a dark stalker fantasy romance with vibes similar to Haunting Adeline and FBAA with a bada** FMC and completely obsessed super powerful MMC wrapped up in a kicka** empowering story, this is the duet for you!
This book was truly the most gut-wrenchingly beautiful story I’ve ever read. The way Maggie manages to pull every emotion from my soul in the space of 500 pages is just amazing.
It tore my heart into pieces and put it back together again and I absolutely cannot explain how much I loved it. I was crying and I was screaming, but I was also giggling and praying to god that Scarlett and Rune got their happy ever after moment.
I honestly adored everything, from the writing, to the characters to the plot I just AHHHHHHH cannot explain in words how good this book is.
Holy fucked up. Definitely read the content warnings before diving into this book. I thought the first book was dark, and not the good kind, but this one takes the cake. Most of it is abuse. I am in shock of what I just read ..
⭐️ 4.8 I was lucky enough to receive an arc of this book and all I can say is Maggie has enraptured me again. The obsession I had with the first book equally crossed over with this one as well. The mix of darkness and pleasure was exactly what I hoped to see in the second installment of this series. I was hopelessly rooting for both Rune and Scarlett individually and as a couple.
If you’ve read haunting Adeline and/or FBAA this is the crossover series of your dreams. I can’t highly recommend reading this series enough.
Mild spoilers ahead…. A part of my soul was healed getting to witness Scarlett reclaim her power throughout the series and make such a dark moment into something she grew from. A large complaint for Hunting Adeline for many people was how dark the first half of the book is and, in comparison, I felt Maggie did an amazing job of hitting the dark aspects of torture while still keeping some hope and lightness to the plot. I felt desperation, despair, giddiness, triumph, and so many other emotions throughout this book. Every love confession that Rune made had my heart squeezing with infatuation. It was truly amazing how this book captured me even in the last few chapters with alarm as to what the outcome might be.
It picks up right where book one ends and just dives straight into the deep end. So much darker, more emotional, and honestly... I couldn’t stop reading. My heart broke for Scarlett ... the trauma she goes through is intense, but her growth?? So powerful. Watching her step into her strength was everything.
Rune is still the typical vampire shadow daddy. Loyal, soft when it matters, dangerous when it counts, but the way he supports Scarlett without taking over?? and patient and understanding through her trauma...Obsessed. Every love confession had me melting. 🖤
Also: shoutout to the side characters (Uriah and Snow's banter?? YES pls i could have read a whole side plot romance with these 2) and the revenge arc... chefs kiss. The ending was super satisfying and totally worth the emotional rollercoaster.
If you're into dark romance, stalker-ish but sweet MMCs, spice, vampires, and strong female leads rising from the ashes — read this duet.

“Does it make you uncomfortable to see your God on his knees before you, Little Flame?”
The fact that other men have touched you does not affect how I see you. It affects how I see them, and all the ways I plan on killing them slowly, painfully, and damn artistically.”
“You will never receive closure from other people. Closure is something that you give yourself.”
“You can rule this whole world, baby,” Rune said. “But don’t you ever fucking forget who rules you.”
Exactly one month later… brb I’m not okay. I’m a sobbing mess. RTC.

4.5/5 stars.
I'm still struggling to process how to write a review.
This book took me so long to read (one month) because of how dark and intense it was. At some points, it truly was traumatic, I needed a breather. But wow, was it powerful. I loved it being a duology.
At some points, it has cringey surface-level theraspeak. But it was infinitely better than so many toxic BDSM stories.
The love story itself was so fun to read - it was sexy and mysterious and obsessive (don't judge me).
I recommend this to anyone who loves to read about vampires, BDSM, and civil war/political intrigue.
İlk 200 sayfa Scarlett'in, düşman hattında yaşamadığı acı, işkence ve istismar kalmadı.
The moment I finished the first book, I was dying to read this one and the wait was so worth it 🥹
I definitely love the Haunting Adeline vibes from these book.
The pain and suffering that Scarlett hurt so bad! She’d suffered all her life and now she’s an actual slave to a sadistic man who wants to make her Rune suffer as her abuses her. Even though at first, she thinks that Rune doesn’t really love her because she’s a succubus.
And while she’s suffering, Rune is also in torment because he knows she’s being abused and she believes that he doesn’t love her when in reality, she’s his other half and he’ll do anything to get her back in his arms.
While suffering and almost being broken, Scarlett is finally learning how to use her powers. To use them to get free and become the powerful ‘demon’ all sucubbi are called and get back to her soulmate.
Once in his arms, he’ll do anything to protect her and help with all her trauma but he won’t stop her becoming who she is. And if helping to kill the men who hurt her will help them so be it.

4.5 ⭐️ because this book made me sob. It was filled with so much heartache but so cathartic to just let go. I couldn’t put this book down and this is one of my favourite character developments I’ve read so far. Maybe because I see myself in the FMC and relate too easily to her trauma, but this book continued to shatter me & then heal me over and over again 🥹
I could have done with 100 less pages about how cool Scarlett is and maybe slightly less obvious copy paste dump from therapy books but otherwise I liked this a bunch, just not quite as much as book one.
First DNF of 2025 and you know what, it feels so good. I just couldn’t do it anymore. I’m not sure what it was bc the first book wasn’t that bad. The first part of this book was DARK. However it was the writing that didn’t do it for me. I’m so glad it’s over.
I have been following Maggie since the beginning, and it has been so rewarding to see her grow as an author. I loved her first series, The Lost Witches of Aradia and this series will be right up there in my favorites. This book is much darker than the first book, so I cannot stress enough you read those trigger warnings.
Also, Maggie, if you see this Sadie needs a book I adore her! Anyway, I loved seeing Scarlett's growth and her coming into her own power after everything she had been through. It was also nice to see her friends and Rune rally behind her and trust in her to make the right choices.
I can't say much without spoilers so here are some things you can look forward to from this completed duet:
Stalker fantasy romance Tall, tattooed vampire mafia lord Shadow Daddy + shadow play Feminine rage Found Family Spice & K!nk Trauma Healing
Ehh this was okay but not great. I’m glad it was not nearly as gritty as it could have been as there’s a few things on my absolute will not read list but the fun unhinged parts I liked from the first book lacked the shock factor in this one.
A little repetitive and it seemed to go on forever without any progress to the actual story. I also found inconsistencies with the main characters again however I did really like Rune by the end. Scarlett still annoyed me 🤣
I hated that Isabella went home without any justice for her actions! I wish Scarlett had been reunited with Jaxon earlier and think MS missed a trick there. I just feel like this all could have been a stand-alone instead of a duology.
All in all, not as addictive as the first book & I wouldn’t rush to recommend but I still had a fun time reading 🫶🏻
Today is an exciting day because book 2, Taken by Touch and Torment, in the Eternal Obsession duet, is officially out! Before reading this book, check out Stalked by Seduction and Shadows first, and beware of spoilers!
Check out my other review of the first book
Continue to the review with care 😉

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book and let me tell you; it did not disappoint. After reading Stalked by Seduction and Shadows, I had to know what would happen next. Fans of the Haunting Adeline are going to love this one. Rune and Scarlett's story is everything! Throughout the book, Rune's poetic nature and Scarlett's character development hooked me. She is not a weak damsel in distress, nope. However, It's a bit heavy on the triggers, so keep that in mind before diving in.
This duet will stay with me for a long time, that's for sure. I simply cannot stop thinking of both of them. If you're into completed duologies, dark, obsessive, and possessive stalker shadow-daddy with excellent world-building, this is the one for you.
Thank you to Maggie Sunseri for the gifted ARC 🖤 I was on the ARC team for book 1 at the beginning of the year and LOVED it, so this was a super highly anticipated release for me. Safe to say it did not disappoint. I described the first book as Haunting Adeline but with vampires, and I see parallels in this book to Hunting Adeline. With that in mind, book 2 is significantly darker than book 1, so please pay attention to trigger warnings before reading. I loved Scarlett’s character development SO MUCH throughout this book. She really found her strength and confidence, which I loved to see. Maggie did a beautiful job at navigating the nuances of trauma throughout the story. Rune was such an amazingly supportive partner to Scarlett and helped her through her trauma so much. It was refreshing to read a book where the mmc is so gentle and understanding of EVERYTHING. The romance in this book came a little later since the story begins with Scarlett being held captive in Durian’s palace. But when the romance kicks in, it is simultaneously heartwarmingly sweet and hot as hell. This was such a great duet, and I hope there’s a possibility for future books about side characters (specifically Snow and Rosalind). I can’t wait to see what Maggie Sunseri comes up with next!
This book was much darker than the first. Scarlett goes through soo much trauma and she is such a strong person for surviving what happens to her in this book.
Love Rune. He’s so sweet and caring but he can also be domineering and intense.
The story developed better in this book and wasn’t terribly slow, it only dragged a smidgen.
Overall I really liked it and happy it has a deserved happy end.
