Pixie is off limits, yet Eva can't seem to stay away from her brother's best friend...
Eva’s at rock bottom. She got dumped, not only by her boyfriend and girlfriend but also ditched by her folks when she came out as bi. Now, she’s crashing on her brother’s couch. Not the time to be crushing hard on his roommate…and best friend.
Pixie’s running from her past. She’s always kept her real family separate from her found family at Whipped, but the more the two threaten to bleed together, the more she’s driven to bolt. However, Micah’s sister Eva ensnares her attention, and she finds herself giving pieces of herself she doesn’t offer to anyone else. Not only that, but Eva is the Domme of her dreams, the sparks between them burning hotter and brighter by the day.
The more time they spend together, the harder they fall—except it’s all in secret. Pixie’s already got one foot out the door, and Micah is the only family Eva has left. If he finds out Eva’s been sneaking around with his best friend…losing him isn’t a price she’s willing to pay.
Enter Whipped, a unique cafe that caters to coffee and kink addicts alike...
Katherine McIntyre is a feisty chick with a big attitude despite her short stature. She writes stories featuring snarky women, ragtag crews, and men with bad attitudes—high chance for a passionate speech thrown into the mix. As a genderqueer geek who’s always stepped to her own beat, she’s made it her mission to write stories that represent the broad spectrum of people out there. Easily distracted by cats and sugar.
The found family aspect of the book was beautifully well written, it's something I'm always eager to read about, as I believe real family is a matter of choice - not just the one we grow up with, but the one we choose to keep in our lives (whether found or blood-related, no discrimination there).
Eva and Micah... Siblinghood at its best! Their complicity, their shared trauma, the bonding, the reconciliation, were very well depicted. I really enjoyed reading about Micah's and Eva's relationship! I really enjoyed reading about Micah and Eva’s relationship!
I did struggled a bit midway through the book, but I think that was a "me problem" (stress, blahblah, life is bleak sometimes). Also, the part where Eva struggled/spiraled about her previous relationship.
The intimate scenes were good, and the kink scenes were fun! All in all, what a great book! So well written, love that ending for them. Their connection and attraction was impressive and I liked how the MCs were true to themselves (specially towards the end❤️).
Will continue to read this series because Kat McIntyre is an amazing writer and I'm invested to read more about the "Whipped" fam! Such a fun series!
Extraction Play is the second book in Katherine McIntyre's Leather and Lattes series. It can be read as a standalone. Here's what you can expect from Pixie and Eva:
💙 FF contemporary, kinky romance 💙 Third person dual point of view 💙 Guaranteed happily ever after 💙 Brother's best friend 💙 Kinky found family 💙 Hurt/comfort 💙 Humiliation kink 💙 Group play 💙 Bondage and gags 💙 Squirting orgasms 💙 Toys
As always, ensure you review the content and trigger warnings to decide if this book is right for you. Note that this list of warnings and triggers may be incomplete. Please take care of yourself while reading.
I think the concept for this series is so great, and it's what introduced me to Katherine McIntyre's work to begin with. I love how she writes kink in such a cozy and safe manner and gives us the opportunity to explore different dynamics. Extraction Play is your classic brother's best friend trope with two women who are both healing in their own regards but can't seem to stay away from one another. There's definitely elements of hurt/comfort in this story as Eva is recovering after a breakup turned nasty and Pixie is struggling to cement her place with her life in San Francisco after a tumultuous childhood. I loved the bond these two women forged, as they had to learn to open up and trust other people. Both main characters could be frustrating and closed-off at times, but it felt realistic given their situations. I also enjoyed watching them explore together and Eva come into her own as a Domme. As with Immersion Play, the spice and kink in this book was fantastic and well-done. If you're a fan of cozy kink, found family, and a well-deserved happily ever after you definitely won't want to miss Katherine's Leather and Lattes series.
Sadly this was just fine for me, and I'm 100% sure that it's a me thing. The writing and the story are good, but I struggled to get into the book and to connect with the characters.
I enjoyed all of the characters and the found family that they have at Whipped. I loved how welcoming they were and how they were there for each other. While I understand why both Eva and Pixie were the way they were regarding communication, it really did annoy me. I really wanted them to open up to each other but also to their friends. Especially Pixie, seeing as the Whipped crew were her friends and she didn't share almost anything with them and was actively distancing herself from them, and then feeling lonely. Eva was doing mostly the same thing. Eva's brother Micah is Pixie's best friend and he was in the dark regarding both Eva and Pixie's lives. I understand both of their issues ans traumas, and them not wanting to burden people with what was happening in their lives, but they needed people they could lean on, and the Whipped crew would have done that for both of them in a heartbeat.
I really enjoyed the kink scenes and discussions that were had, and how they were approached. I really enjoyed how Meg planned everything and took charge. I want to say once again that I really loved how welcoming the whole Whipped crew was and how solid their friendhsips were.
I would recommend it to anyone wanting to read a sapphic romance that is somewhat more kinkier than usual.
Cosy kink? Consider me hooked! I absolutely loved book 1 in this series, which is MM and introduces the main characters in the Leather and Lattes world and was ready to dive in for more with this second in the series, which is FF (with a few MF/MM mentions on the side) - focussing on artistic sub Pixie and visiting domme Eva, who is sister to one of the MCs from book one. The Leather and Lattes world is the best of found family, cosy, hurt/comfort and this book continues that theme. It's technically a standalone and can be read as one but if you enjoy both MM and FF romance then book one is worth reading first. Both FMCs have their share of emotional baggage - Eva has been kicked out by her boyfriend AND girlfriend as well as been rejected by her homophobic parents and Pixie is dealing with a lifetime of instability and childhood trauma from her mentally ill mother which have left her feeling unmoored even within her close knit friendship group. Together their chemistry is hot hot hot and it's lovely watching them fall for each other through their respective emotional developments and recovery. Very much looking forward to the next instalment!.
‘After going through the heartbreak of losing her longtime boyfriend and her new girlfriend as well as her parents, she hadn’t thought she’d be open to love for a long time. However, Pixie had crashed into her life, and Eva began to understand a key distinction. The people she had lost—she had given love, but they hadn’t returned it. Not like Pixie, with her open surrender, gentle smiles, sweet surprises, and earnest affection. Despite her resistance, her concern it was too fast, in the blink of an eye, she’d fallen in love with Pixie Monroe.’
She was NOT supposed to fall for her brother’s best friend. But how could she stop the feelings she got while playing with Pixie?
She was NOT supposed to get involved with her best friend’s sexy sister. But she could not get this vivacious woman out of her head, or heart.
Katherine McIntyre bring’s us back into her Leather and Lattes series with the anticipated relationship between Eva and Pixie in Extraction Play. The Whipped Crew is always a pleasure to read about, while individuals seeking and finding their hearts’ desires come to play, and fall in love.
Coffee and kink? These are a few of my favorite things. Eva’s relationship with her boyfriend and girlfriend came to an emotional end. They choose a life together without her in it. Trying to pick up the pieces of her life, she finds herself couch surfing at the condo her brother Micah shares with his best friend Pixie. Micah works at Whipped, a cafe that also serves as a kink club. Pixie is a resident sub at Whipped. Pixie loves her sub lifestyle and the found family she has at Whipped, but she’s very guarded due to her traumatized childhood. She is afraid to let anyone in beyond a surface level and has a tendency to flee. The last thing Eva is looking for is a relationship. She’s just trying to reconnect and heal the bond with her brother. But there is an instant attraction with Pixie that can’t be ignored. That attraction only grows deeper as they engage in a very hot scene during one of Whipped’s play nights. This book was full of spice, emotion, comfort and healing. It was a beautiful example of found family and the kink community. Looking forward to reading more in the Leather and Lattes series.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I am really happy to have had the opportunity to discover Katherine McIntyre's work. Even though that Extraction Play was the second book of the Leather & Latte serie, I dived in blind. I was charmed by the found family theme and the openess of the group. I love to read about queer people and kink, so I was served. This book was light hearted, even if certain subjects were hard. The connection between Pixie and Eva was good, and the way that the relationship evolves is believable. The spice was great, and the plot was there, even tough I saw the happy ending coming! Some details would've been good to know, or to mix a bit in the storyline, like how in her previous relationship Eva bring a third, what made that possible? I would have like to know, but it is just a small wonder. I will go back in time to read Micah and Parker's story, just because I'm now attached to this little found-family, and I can't wait to read the next in the serie. Like, Coffee and Kinks? Count me in!
Extraction Play is the second book in the Leather and Lattes series and picks up, essentially, right where the first one ended. I enjoyed Immersion Play and was looking forward to what else this cast of characters had in store. While this book wasn’t without its issues for me, I liked it nonetheless.
Where I had issues with this book was the lack of communication. Not entirely between the MCs, though that was a small part, but more between everyone else.
I did like the MCs a lot, and I enjoy the whole cast of characters. There are a plethora of personalities, sexualities, gender identities, and kinks represented in the group. There’s much to come from the series, and I’m interested to see what happens next.
Intense and hot! My goodness, was that hot! I think I'll start again from the beginning and take my time with it ;) I don't know the first book in the Leather and Lattes Series and it's generally my first book by Katherine McIntyre, but it definitely won't be my last. I prefer to read wlw books, but I simply have to read this series and the romances of this ragtag group in its entirety. It's full of the explicit kind of BDSM. If you have a problem with it, maybe you shouldn't read. But i would give ita chance, because it's also about loss, family, false hopes, childhood trauma, Love, chosen family and friends who love you unconditionally! The love story of Pixie and Eva is heartbreaking and full of beautiful and scorching hot moments. Just as exciting and with a wonderful happy ending! Thanks to the Author for this wonderful romance!
I love books that have found family story lines. The group that works at Whipped is one of those found families. I also enjoy the hurt/comfort trope and this story has plenty of that as both of the main characters have gone through their own type of hurt and are looking for someone to comfort them. Eva is in San Francisco to visit her brother after crashing and burning in a relationship and being ostracized by her parents. Pixie has grown up her entire life in an environment where she did not feel safe or protected therefore it is hard for her to let others in even those that are in her found family. But together they can see the other person's hurt laid out there and it turns out they are the comfort each other needs. This is a lovely story of two people learning to grow with each other and learning to accept the support and help of others.
I enjoyed the first book in the series and was interested in getting to know Micah’s sister Ava better. I really love the way this author writes characters, charming, interesting, and realistically flawed. Pixie and Eva are wonderfully vivid characters and I enjoyed seeing their relationship develop. One of my favorite aspects of the book was the pretty exceptional found family vibes. I think this author has a wonderful ability for writing found family and creating side characters with loads of personality. Still not a fan of the Whipped staff play nights, but love how fiercely they support each other. I also really appreciated Eva and brother Micah’s relationship, these siblings have been through it together and I love seeing them come out strong and happy.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Extraction Play is the second book in the Leather and Lattes series. Also, is my first FF.
This is the story of Eva and Pixie, for me it is a low angst dom/sub romance, but the female protagonists are going through a complicated time in their lives, so the hurt/confort trope would also appear.
Eva, who has just broken up with her boyfriend and her sub, goes to visit her brother, after realizing she was bi and coming out to her parents, who have never treated her well. They have always demanded that she be a way she is not.
Pixie , is Eva's brother's roommate, an artist who is also the sub resident of a club. She has problems with her mother and with life in general.
I really like the way Eva's character is written, a super sweet dom, always caring about Pixie.
Eva is Micah's sister, we met her and Pixie in book one, Immersion Play. It's not necessary to read that book, but it will give you a better picture of this group of people, and of what Micah went through. It has some relevance here.
I really enjoyed this, but I couldn't quite love it.
Why?? I dunno, but I love McIntyre's work, you know I do, I've followed her from the very beginning. My only reasoning would be, it's not you, its me.
I have some stuff going on in my personal life that is affecting my reading enjoyment.
I liked that both Eva and Pixie got a say. I liked the super smexy scenes which are at times, MORE than just Pixie and Eva.
I loved that the chemistry between these two was powerful and stays strong, even if Picie might lose her best friend and Eva might lose her brother.
I love that we catch up with all the guys from Whipped and some things are laid out for book 3.
Extraction Play is the second book in the Leather and Lattes series. Each book can be read as a standalone but why not enjoy both. This is my first F/F story and I can say that because I loved the first book in the series I wanted to read this one and I'm so happy I did. This was a great introduction for me. This is Pixie a sub and Eva a dommes story. I love all the characters because Katherine McIntyre has an amazing ability to bring them to life. I truly enjoy the coffee and kink world that was created here. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Thank you Katherine McIntyre for such a great story. I would definitely recommend this book and series.
Eva and Pixie are each living life with deeply engrained self-doubt. In Extraction Play, they help each other to begin to overcome that. I love these women together, whether they are enjoying sexy D/s play or discussing life and feelings. Their story is a great addition to this latest found family series by an author who excels at those. I love that the friends group here plays together without jealousy and supports each other unconditionally. Micah and Parker were the focus of the first book, and I was excited to see Micah's sister and his best friend find their own HEA. This was such a good story, and I'm ready for more in this world.
This was my first ever sapphic novel. I was a little leery going in since it’s out of my comfort zone. But I decided to give it a try based on how much I liked the first book in the series and ended up really enjoying it!
I absolutely adore the found family in this series. They are all so close and supportive of each other (even if everyone was a bit hard to keep track of for me). This story had a lot of hurt/comfort as well. There was plenty of spice and the power exchange portions were written really well. I’m so glad I decided to take a chance on this book, and can’t wait for the story to continue!
I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review
I really enjoyed the diversity in Katherine's writing talents. This series is so raw and real with more angst and emotional moments than their other series but she excels at this too. With vibrant characters and chaotic but fiercely loyal found family and all the kinky fun you could want. This book is hot and soft, emotional and fun, snarky and hopeful. You can't help but feel for each character as Katherine injects so much emotion and vulnerability into each scene. I really enjoyed this one and love all these characters and look forward to many many more visits to this kinky cafe 😉
I absolutely loved the characters in this book. Bonus chuckles on the unexpected wording on certain idioms. This is a great novel on found family in a supportive environment and finding yourself and acceptance. This is all the feels.
My first read by this author, definitely won't be my last!
⚠️ triggers for mentions of parental neglect, homophobia from a parent, parent with schizoaffective disorder, and all the kinks. It's 🌶🌶🌶🌶 Pairings: FFFX, MM, FF
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is another sweet story in this series. I love the description "cozy kink" the author has used. I would have loved one more Play Night scene towards the conclusion of the book. All this teasing with possible scenarios... I felt like some phrases were used over and over and was a little annoyed by that but I adore this open-minded found family. I really like that this is not "just" MM romance but includes (and will include) a wide array of identities and characters. I am a fan of this series.
What goes on in the dark, always comes to light, best to contol the illumination! Eva and Micah are siblings. Eva, is having a bad time, she is rejected by her girlfriend, boyfriend and parents. She's staying with her brother and crushing on his roommate, Pixie. Pixie is the queen of compartementaliztion. She keeps her bio family and found family separate to control her life better. She and Eva are secretly pending more time together and develop feels. Good story, nice flow. Spicy! Delightful cover art. Nice story, a few surprises. I received an ARC and am volutarily leaving a review.
Eva has found herself drifting after not only being rejected by her parents for being bisexual but also being pushed out of her long term relationship by the woman she invited in. She ends up at her brother's home with a stern warning to not play with Pixie, his roommate. Pixie is the resident sub at Whipped and a successful artist. Pixie has issues letting her friends close enough to support her the way she needs. This is an amazing hurt/comfort story and I love the theme of found family that is woven into this series.
I absolutely love the Leather & Lattes series. Pixie & Eva's story was amazing. The emotional connection these ladies have just takes the physical to the next level. Watching them both slowly let their walls down was just 🥺 Catching up with the Whipped crew was entertaining as always 🤣 I love all the ways they tease each other, would love to hang out there 💜 Totally can't wait for the next book 💗
This book offers a nice blend of chosen family, kink, coffee, and chemistry— it’s easy to want the best for Pixie and Eva and I like how vividly all the relationships—romantic, platonic, familial, etc are drawn here. Both characters have, for various reasons, a bit of baggage, or at least complexity, to work through, and it’s rewarding and emotional and interesting to see them do so. 4.5 stars.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Whipped is a wonderful place the author has created that allows our characters a safe space to be themselves. Both Eva and Pixie need that. Both of them are hiding pieces of themselves from those closest to them and in Eva's case, paying the price for not hiding some things. The development of their relationship as they come to trust each other as Domme/sub and as romantic partners is exiciting to watch and as a huge fan of the brother's best friend romance this was a definite winner for me.
It hit a little hard at times, but I've been wanting Pixie and Eva's story since we met them in Immersion Play and Kat didn't disappoint! The found family is so strong in the Whipped crew, and I love it so much. Mind the content warnings, it can be a tough read in places.
Oh sweet happiness! Grab tissues and/or a towel friends cause there will be wetness in some form with this story!
It’s got some highs and lows and some in between times too! It’s glorious to get to read a story that feels like home and makes your heart feel the feels of its characters!
I know a lot of people tend to shy away from sapphic romance but give this one a read, you won’t be sorry. The depth of the characters and the love they find in each other that has been missing from their lives is absolutely amazing. Add in the found family at Whipped and your eyes will be leaking with love and happiness by the end!
I really enjoyed the fact that there was an under appreciated kink in this story! Bring on the squirting. The story was creative and fun. I enjoyed both the main characters their vibes together were fantastic. I throughly love the series and how the characters from past series also make appearances.
Extraction Play is book #2 in the Leather and Lattes series and is Pixie and Eva's story. I really loved the way Pixie and Eva connected, their interactions, their chemistry was palpable; and I really enjoyed watching their relationship grow and evolve. I just adored both of these characters so much! I thoroughly enjoyed this story, one click now you won't regret it!
I really enjoyed a lot of the elements of this story. I loved the found family - the network of supportive friends who were there for both MCs throughout the story, as well as the communication, especially during intimate moments - this was really refreshing to read and more realistic than I have often seen similar scenes portrayed.
