Ever wondered what it’s really like to pick up your entire life and move to another country? Maybe you should pause for a moment and read this funny yet poignant true story first.
In his witty and insightful memoir, Andy chronicles his family’s move from rainy England to steamy Atlanta. He transports his wife, two kids, two dubious dogs and one very unhappy cat over 4,000 miles across the pond. Through laugh-out-loud anecdotes and hard-won wisdom, Andy shares the thrilling highs, frustrating lows, and daunting challenges of uprooting your entire life to start over in a strange land.
From the sleepy British seaside to the bustling American South, Andy’s adventure inspires as much as it entertains. An absolute must-read for anyone contemplating a major move abroad. This book will have you alternatively cracking up and bursting into tears - and leave you with an unforgettable portrait of the quirky characters, cultural escapades and uncommon courage at the heart of one family’s personal immigration tale.

Along with many like-minded souls, 2020 was the year I finally broke free of the constraints of life in corporate America. Fueled by a renewed passion and creativity I decided to pursue my new life as a full-time author.
Originally from Southport in England my wife, Paula, and I, lived and worked in the USA for 15 wonderful years, and then moved to Spain to enjoy a quiet life in the endless sunshine of the Mediterranean. Instead, we ended up embroiled in the tribulations of the pandemic. I wrote and self-published my first book “Mistakes Were Made” after that (mis) adventure.
At heart always British, we loved living in the U.S.A but will never vocalize the American pronunciations of basil, banana, or tomato. We now live with our two dogs in leafy Somerset, land of apples, cider, and weather so perpetually wet, ‘wellies’ are considered formal wear.

I've read and enjoyed a few of Andy's previous books, so I was sure I'd enjoy this one. I also moved from the UK to the US (albeit on a fiancée visa) so I could relate to a lot of the family's experiences. I chuckled a lot, and muttered Oh, yes! That happened to me!! quite a few times. I loved the problems he had with this common language we speak on both sides of the pond, and the many faux pas we Brits make. I wish I'd been able to read this ten years ago. Whether you have moved/are planning to move to the US, or just enjoy a well-written, humorous and entertaining book, this is definitely recommended. Bless your heart, Andy.
Amusing, as the British usually are to Americans like me. They seem to see everything in a different way. In this short memoir the author and his wife move to America, specifically, Atlanta, with his job. And the story unfolds of their trials and tribulations of getting VISAs, finding a house, establishing credit which requires a social security number, and various other dross adventures. Not gut-wrenchingly exciting, and not as snarkily funny as some other Brit-discovering-America memoirs I've read, but quite solidly amusing.
This is a fun & entertaining read detailing Andy & his family’s move to Atlanta, USA. Some ‘lol’ moments, very witty, dry northern humour. There’s plenty of helpful insights, do’s & don’ts, & how to navigate the bureaucratic systems. I would have liked to hear more on the USA living. Looking forward to reading more of Andy’s books.
Interesting observations from a character (well, a real person of course) whom I wrongly guessed was very much the "non-american" type given his wit and sarcasm in earlier tales.
This was my third book written by Andy, interesting to hear the stories unfold through planning, booking, red tape issues and many other hurdles as He headed to a new life in the US.
