The Governance is falling apart as Mathison struggles to keep the Sol system from imploding. Stathis is learning more about the threat that Becket and the AI collective is becoming, and Sif has discovered that there are lethal flaws in the Alliance’s defenses.
Mathison must declare himself Emperor and reveal himself before it is too late, but he needs the support of the Vapaus Republic, and—as the vanhat assault intensifies against Sol—there are factions within the governance that see Mathison’s weakness as an opportunity.
Can Mathison and Stathis overcome the challenges they face, or is humanity doomed to become like the tomb worlds? An extinct species known only by the blasted ruins of their worlds.
Reader, writer, martial artist, US Marine, Veteran, Squad Leader, Team Leader, Saw Gunner, Rifleman, Computer Consultant, Security Officer, Dungeon Master, world traveler, Computer Gamer, dreamer, realist, American and best of all Dad!
Growing up in Europe during the height of the cold war and then serving in a Marine SOC (Special Operations Capable) Battalion during the collapse of Communism provided a lot of life experience and a unique perspective on life and the world. The first novel he read was Jules Vern's 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea' when he was ten and has been reading ever since.
Before the Marines he was a pocket protector wearing nerd, after the Marines he held jobs as a Security officer/Patrol Sergeant, Lieutenant and other odd specialized jobs like body guard or surveillance, and ended up brushing off the pocket protector to become a Computer Consultant.
These days he dreams of quitting his day job as a computer consultant to work full time as a writer and dad.
This was pretty boring and introducing new characters and species that was just getting confusing. I had to push through to finish this one. I’m okay with a certain amount of political and societal discussion, most of which I agree with here but seriously it just kept going on and on. Make it work with the story or keep it short. He could have summarized most of this into a couple chapters. Current society sucks and people are too stupid, we are making an empire.
Another hit! We finally get to learn more about the Torag. If the vanhat weren't scary enough, now they're taking over aliens. Stathis continues to grow in his leadership role while maintaining his sense of humor. Sif searches a space station and meets a new enemy, as if there wasn't enough already. I'm interested to see if more of that is explained and explored.
Holy schnike ! This book has some serious twists. Major events that I did not think would happen. It was a page turner. The best yet in the series. I am hooked once again. Talk about cliff hangers !. I can't wait for the next installment.
This whole series is great. Part horror and part sci Fi. It never drags and is full of action. From the first paragraph to the past. You just can't put it down! Semper Fi!
Plenty of action but also lots of high level political thought. Complex story lines with interesting characters. A well developed and surprising combination of science fiction and the supernatural.
Great series. Cannot stop reading. Good action, combat and military life insight. I strongly recommend this series for fans of the sci-fi Space Marine books.
