Tentacle Wonderland

Rate this book
Dante's going to prove himself to the world. Society might see the short progenitrix feelers along his sides and expect him to get married and give up his career to start popping out babies, but he's just as smart and tenacious as any viratrix. His scholarships prove it; even if they mean he has to live with a bunch of viratrix jocks. And if he's been spending too much time noticing his housemate, Reggie, the easygoing football tackle with the attractive turquoise tentacles who loves to bake cute little muffins. But with his disabilities, Dante been burned too many times to ever consider dating. It's terrifying.

Reggie knows he's nothing special. Forgettable, really. Just another mediocre college athlete who tries to get good grades, block some passes, and maybe bring others a little joy in their lives. No one ever has to know that he waits breathlessly each day for encounters with his snarky, enigmatic housemate, Dante—who barely seems to remember he exists. Now he just has to work up the courage to ask him out. Or, you know, have a real conversation.

But when they're the only housemates without holiday plans over winter break, and Dante invites Reggie to share his heat,Reggie discovers a whole new side of himself. The side that likes being on his knees and wants Dante's commands more than his own pleasure. With all of Reggie's fantasies coming true, now he just needs to convince the elusive progenitrix to spend Christmas with him... and make it into something more.

Tentacle Wonderland is set in The Change world along with Rut. It is also part of the Tinsel and Tentacles multi-author collaboration and a complete standalone. Expect to find a scrappy progenetrix (like an omega) who likes being in charge, a hopeful viratrix (like an alpha) who’s hopelessly in love with him, an unusual Christmas tree, and an HEA. Want more tantalizingly tentacular winter holiday romances? Grab the whole series!

Reese Morrison

Reese Morrison lives in Philadelphia with their partner, two precocious children, and intermittent housemates, guests, and homeless, queer teens. Their hobbies are volunteering on too many boards, planting gardens that they forget to water half-way through the summer, making up songs for their kids, and putting off writing their dissertation.

Reese and their partner both identify as genderqueer and are part of a vibrant community of queer and trans folks. They started writing because they were dissatisfied with the lack of trans and genderqueer characters in what they were reading and finally decided to do something about it. Many, but not all, of their books are kinky (for a whole range of kinks...) and they feel that it's important to represent a range of backgrounds, dis/abilities, gender presentations/ identities, and body types in their writing.

The two of them were nothing alike, but for a quick, surreal moment, Dante felt an affinity with the big jock that he hadn’t felt with anyone in… well, maybe ever.

A sweet and extra spicy romance, a cute crush on a prickly roommate, winter dates and Christmas vibes, AND a femme black cat dom with a kneeling golden retriever sub? How could I not completely LOVE this?

Good God. Reggie was an excitable puppy dog. One of the huge ones with the giant paws who didn’t know their own size.

Then his eyes drifted down, widening at the sight of Dante’s bad-bitch boots before his heated gaze lingered at the flowing hem of his skirt, then traced all the way back up to Dante’s face. “You look nice,” Reggie finally said, a distractingly sexy rasp to his voice.

Goth femme tops are my weakness, especially when they’re prickly on the outside, but just need love and cuddles. I loved the role reversal, Reggie the ‘alpha’ jock wanting to worship his goddess and obey all of Dante’s commands.

“No coming,” Dante warned him. He must have been reading his thoughts. “Yes, my goddess”

“That’s it, my sweet boy,” Dante told him. “Come on my feelers. I want you to squirt and scream.”

And don’t get me started on the tentacles. Omegaverse is always a super smutty time, and the tentacle fun along with their atypical dynamic made for a scorchingly hot read.

He already fallen hard for his prickly goddess, and until he could say it out loud, he’d just show it in his actions. Every day.

All of that yumminess plus the sweet feels made Tentacle Wonderland an automatic win for me. It wasn’t just kink and heat, but hurt/comfort, sweet hand massages, easy acceptance, cuddles and tenderness. I can’t think of a single thing that I didn’t enjoy about this magical read.

He hadn’t known he could love somebody this much. He hadn’t known he could be loved this much.

4⭐️ 3.5🌶️

📝 REVIEW & THOUGHTS:

I love how Reese challenges the more common omegaverse norms and bigotry and while challenging social conventions regarding gender. It’s like we get the gay/queer inside the gay/queer. It’s awesome. It’s double gay/queer, and I’m here for it! I also love how in this series we always get non-binary characters that challenge social norms of what an omega or an alpha should be/do to “represent” their gender. For example, cooking isn’t only a woman/omega hobby, or the expectation or being submissive vs dominant and viceversa.

Reggie was so caring, sweet, gentle, thoughtful and the absolutely most adorable boy. Dante was a lonely, glaring, scary but secretly sweet goddess who yearns to be loved.

This book is sugary sweet and adorable, with some tension in the beginning due to Dante’s insecurities and trust issues.

🏷️ TROPES & TAGS (possible spoilers):

Genre/subgenre: technically contemporary romance, but alien/sci-fi and omegaverse adjacent
Pairing: MM
POV: 3rd person, dual
Angst: low
Burn: medium
Vibe/mood: sweet, hot, adorably cute
Pet names: baby, sweetheart, babe, love, goddess / baby
Characters’ ages: not mentioned, but I assume mid to late 20s
HEA: yes

Dominant, a bit black cat energy, lonely, but secretly adorable omega
Submissive, shy, blushing, golden retriever, extra caring Alpha

Roommates
Alpha falls first and harder (he has an ADORABLE crush on the omega🥹🥰🫠)

🌶️ SPICE & K!NKS (possible spoilers):

Strict top/bottom or versatile: vers, but not switch, the same MC is always in charge
Heat: 6 scenes, medium heat

⚠️ CONTENT WARNINGS (possible spoilers):

MC with trust issues and low self esteem
Lacking aftercare in the beginning (due to insecurities, not bad intentions)
Mild bigotry and bigoted family

💬 QUOTES (possible spoilers):

And now he had Dante’s phone number. Score. He felt a little bit devious, but this was what friends did, right? And maybe later it could expand to dating?

Please, he thought to himself. To Dante. To the universe. Please let him accept this. Accept me. Let me be what he wants.

“Dante, could we…?” Dante cocked his head to one side, observing. Maybe worrying. He was so strong and yet so fragile at the same time. “Yes?” “Could we go to the living room? By our tree?” The vision grew in his mind. Snowflakes and tinsel. Naked bodies in the firelight. “I want to be your Christmas present.”

* Fyi about 🌶️ levels: I rate spice on a combination of quantity, quality, length, intensity and explicitness of the scenes. Kınks are listed separately and generally do not directly affect the steam level to keep it fair for non kınky books.

At once extremely sweet and meltingly hot; like sugar boiling on the stove.

Reggie, golden retriever extraordinaire, has the biggest crush on his intimidating roommate Dante, and when he learns it will be just the two of the them home over the Christmas break, he finally shores up the courage to ask him out.

Dante puts up a convincing front but is deeply insecure about his abilities, his disability, his sexual proclivities. He wants to be loved by his family but can't reconcile what they want for him with what he wants for himself. He doesn't let people get close for fear of getting hurt.

As always with Morrison's work, there's a lot of questioning around gender roles and stereotypes. Reggie is a viratrix, this universe's equivalent of an alpha, who enjoys some "unconventional" pursuits such as cooking and learns that he's a submissive through exploration with Dante. Dante is genderfluid/NB, dominant, and terrified of being forced into the traditional progenitrix (omega) role that his parents think he belongs in. There are also some nice reflections on the D/s dynamic here, and Dante's realisation that though part of it is about control and safety, that it's just as much about care, love and fun.

There's quite a lot of sex in this, and I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who's keen on tentacles. I did kind of struggle to keep the tentacle placement straight in my mind and could've used a drawing.

Though there are some really nice domestic moments and hurt/comfort - their date at the arboretum, cooking together, putting up their semi-sentient Christmas tree, Reggie massaging Dante's hands, standing up for him at Dante's parents' - I could've done with more character development and am not entirely convinced how well they work outside of the bedroom hence the 4 star rating.

A delightful read

I loved this so much! I never read a tentacle romance before Rut and here I am on my forth one. (I think.) There was a glimpse of Reggie and Dante in Rut and I was so looking forward to their story and it lived up to the hype in my head. I love how both characters were unsure of their roles and identities and with each other they had a safe space to explore and figure it out together. Super sexy kink plus exploration of gender identity and roles.

Nice. Tentacles but with more plot. A sort of alpha/omega set up V/P but with outliers to the system. Sweet couple and mostly straight forward. I liked how they stood up for each other. Making out in the parent's house...not so sure. As for the rest, it was a fun one.

And out of nowhere, I got to end the year with Reese Morrison's new book and I couldn’t be happier!
“Tentacle Wonderland” is Reese Morrison at their most hilarious, not because of the book's tone but because Reese, the person through whose books I have learnt practically all I know about Judaism, decided to write a Christmas romance, and I loved it.
I don’t think I have read a book in which it was so immediately clear the protagonists belonged together since “All Tied Up”. If anything Reggie and Dante are even more of a match, personality-wise, and getting to witness them figuring themselves and the other one out made me giggle, blush and scream at them for the entire book.
Reggie is a ray of sunshine in human form, impervious to Dante’s scowls and stares until Dante (who I fell in love with two sentences in) is brave enough to take a leap of faith and believe in Reggie’s intentions. These two just had so much chemistry and depth to them that the only thing wrong with this book is that it’s not longer because if you take away the scifi element, give it a cutesy illustrated cover, ease on the kink and spend more time on Reggie’s football career, this would be the perfect new adult, enemies to lovers, opposites attract, m/m university sports romance to make the tik tok girlies and the starving for good rep queers go feral.
Reggie and Dante are a bit younger than most of Reese’s characters and I loved how the author took that in consideration in how they saw the world and how confident they were in themselves. I also loved how the world-building was expanded with all kinds of interesting details. It is ridiculous how talented this author is.
As always, I can barely wait for their next book.
Thank you to Reese Morrison for kindly sending me this DRC.

For some reason I didn’t connect with these characters as much as Jordie and Elias in Rut. We had seen Reggie in that book while also learning about his crush on Dante. However I had such trouble keeping the two MCs straight for like the first 1/4 of the book. I kept confusing them and I’m not even sure why. Their names aren’t really alike at all. I think it was maybe the third person POV and sometimes forgetting whose chapter u was on, or maybe because I read this and Rut back to back.

I noticed more typos/inconsistencies in this book than the previous one. It had Reggine instead of Reggie in multiple spots, one spot had “only only”, it said Reggie in one spot when it should have been Jordie, confidant instead of confident, there were missing space, etc. Also for Dante’s mom it goes from Ms. Williams to Sarah within like half a page in Reggie’s POV. She already told him to call her Sarah several pages ago.

This book once again took an “unusual” pairing and made it work. I liked how Reggie brought Dante out of his shell and made him happy eventually once Dante started to love himself and not care what others thought. Reggie was such a sweetheart, golden retriever type of character. While I did like this pairing, I kind of was annoyed by how much Dante doubted Reggie. Like Reggie flat out told him he was crushing on him forever and he thought he was just lying. I get Dante doesn’t have the best track record, but I think Reggie proved himself by that point. I’d probably give this 3 out of 5 stars. It was enjoyable overall, but it didn’t resonate with me like Rut did.

**4.5 Stars**

I was completely in love with this story and the characters until about 45% in, then it fell apart a bit for me. It's totally a me thing, tentacle sex is just... weird. 😅 Thankfully this story wasn't page after page of sex but what there was, was still too much for me. There is an element of D/s and even though that's not a me thing either it worked for the story purposes.

Overall, the story is sweet, funny and heartbreaking. Even though it may not sound like it I really did enjoy this one.

● Paranormal/Fantasy
● Holiday/Christmas
● Tentacles are involved
● Crush on a roommate
● Bigger/smaller role reversal
● Some angst
● Some really, really sweet moments
● Made me laugh
● Hurt my heart
● Loved the MCs
● More story than sex
● Slow burn-ish
● One family I'd like to slap upside the head
● One that seems very sweet
● Characters from Rut play a very small part (I think I may want to know their story tentacles or not)
● A very, very satisfying HEA
● Part of a Multi Author Series
● Can be read as a stand alone

I love, love, love the tentacle sci-fi alpha/omega-verse world that Reese has created and I really hope they write more in it.

I love that even with new genders in a futuristic sci-fi Earth, that we still have people that are stuck in gender and binary "norms" and we have characters that totally buck those norms and want what they want.

Reese writes gender and kink and the "normal" roles of alpha and omega/dominant and submissive characters so so well. I feel like everything is done so respectfully and purposefully. There is also disability rep with Dante that I thought was handled so well.

If you love a grumpy/sunshine romance between the big "alpha" who wants to submit to the "omega" that he is totally infatuated with, you gotta read this story. I put alpha and omega in parentheses because Reese uses different language to designate these roles within this world, but it's equivalent in meaning.

This book was fantastic and I don't know why more people isn't reading it. Tentacle wonderland is book 2 in this new world that Reese Morrison has created where earth had a period of massive extension and the few humans that survived underwent some mutations where there are now 4 genders instead of 2 and they now have tentacles (there is more background into this in book 1 Rut which I highly recommend).
Tentacle wonderland is the story between Reggie who is a male viratrix (and a total golden retriever ) and Dante who is a male progenetrix but was born with a disability and defies his gender identity and what society considers appropriate for a progenetrix. Their story was such a tender love story. Reggies accepts Dante as he is and slowly teaches Dante to open his heart. Dante learns he can be himself in the relationship and doesn't have to be so defensive. In addition to the love story, we get awesome spicy/smut and commentary on gender identity/sexuality and societal expectations which I loved!

"He lifted Dante's hand and pressed his lips to the knuckles. "I'm sorry I can't promise that no one else will ever hurt you, or that you won't get disappointed again. But I'm not here to do that. I'm not those other people. And I want the chance to show you".

luved the gender fuckery (positive)/genderqueer rep happening here the romance was sweet and really truly one of the only romance novels that had me like enjoying the humiliation and degradation part that came with the bdsm in this. the worldbuilding was ridiculous. i got the idea, but it is overexplained and we spend too much time emphasizing how different the world is from ours by talking about our world and its like okay! bro i LIVE there! even then, the worldbuilding is way too expanded for the romance on it was too clunky and awkward. but this was still so sweetieeeeeee. reggie is the ideal boyfriend. i wouldnt want him because well. if he's a sub..and im a sub...then who's doing the domming???.... but he's perfect for dante and i enjoyed reading about them!

I enjoyed Dante and Reggie’s story. The new world and all the changes that this author has created made for an intriguing read. I loved the journey that these two went on to find a way towards their happiness. The two are made for one another and it was nice to see the way they interact. Reggie is wonderful and it was nice to see the support given to Dante. With that support Dante is able to grow and shine. Dante learns what a treasure Reggie is and that trust can be given freely. Their story moves at a good pace and is full of emotion. It is the right amount of hot and sexy mixed with angst and emotions. I was pulled into their story from the start and engaged all the way to the end.

I was not expecting to like the story, fearing it would be too sci-fi and tentacles?!?
Turns out, the new world is interesting and the tentacles are hot.

Loved the story but it could have had more length. it was quite a fast read and I wasn’t ready to leave the couple just yet.

I also would have loved a little bit more inside in Reggie’s world - he took everything in stride and was so very secure in his identity (at a quite young age and an identity not favoured by main society). I wonder how he got there, his family environment is portrayed really healthy, but I would have liked more exploration of this.

Delightful and Sinfully Hot Xmas Romance

I was so happy to see a follow-up to Rut that I had to read the day it came out. Jordie's brother Reggie has fallen for a fiesty roommate before the book begins. The kink dynamics of this couple are as raw and intricate as longtime fans of Reese Morrison know to expect.

I find the identity exploration and trans joy in these tentacle stories to be even more touching than in other RM works--what a feat! Something about the exploration of secondary genders gets me in the feelers. ;)

I absolutely loved this book - Reese Morrison has written a whole new world for us, one that has evolved and changed into something beautiful but still with humanity. With this humanity comes its issues - insecurity, assumptions about each other and hardships. Dante and Reggie aren’t perfect, but they are perfect for each other. Beautifully written, sexy and so incredibly good.

Hands down, tentacles up, 10/10

By far my favorite of the series. I liked all the books in the series (duh, tentacles) but this one - the emotions, the heat, the character growth and development, the relationships, the world building! - ugh, my heart. It was hands down my favorite, 10/10 must read and recommend

a fresh storyline

This story is different to any other tentacle romance I have read. It’s kind of a new take on omegaverse which I absolutely loved. Great characters, a storyline that kept me invested from start to finish and plenty of steam. This is the first book I have read by this author but can confidently say it won’t be the last

There is just something almost sweet but with a side of spicy in Dante and Reggie’s relationship. Dante refuses to be constrained by society expectations and Reggie starts to find out more about himself over the holiday. An empty house, heat, and revelations will lead to their HEA.

DNF at 62%.

I don't know, it seems like the author had a good idea for a novella, but then was told to stretch it. Once it became a chore to read, I decided to give up.
