Ariel Emerson knows what it's like to lose everyone you love and she has no intention of going through that again. Ever. But then she's snatched off the streets, sold to a monster, her only hope of being rescued is the man who very thoroughly destroyed her.
Not a day has passed for Sebastian "Rock" Rockman that he hasn't regretted lashing out in grief and guilt and destroying the best thing to ever happen to him. He always knew one day he wanted a second chance but when Ariel is kidnapped right in front of him he'll have to fight not just to win her heart and her trust, but to save her life.
Sometimes a happy ending isn't in the cards.

Not bad but it appears her books are rinse and repeat. Love, Conflict/big mistake by MMC then always ends because someone almost dies so all is forgiven. Rinse and repeat for next book.

I am so happy to be back with another action packed Jane Blythe novel. She loves to share alpha heroes, feisty women, danger and happy ever afters. In Ruthless Scars, we get right to the good stuff. Sebastian “Rock” Rockman has lived his life trying to make himself worthy of Ariel Emerson. Just when he thinks he’ll have his second chance, she is kidnapped right under his nose and sold to a monster.
After she had been placed in a suitcase with a ball gag fitted and a chastity belt, all she could think was:
She was nothing. She was just a toy. No worth.
OMG! It amazes me that Jane can come up with so many ways to torture those that find themselves in the hands of monsters. The women that survive come out stronger, able to appreciate those who put their lives on the line to save them and help them find themselves again. They find that those around them are so much more than friends, they are family.
I do crave a happy ever after, seeing Jane puts her characters through all kinds of hell. I’m eager to see what she comes up with in the next book of the series, Brutal Scars.
Lots of brutality in this book. What was also painful — the way the story was written. So incredibly repetitive, making these special forces guy almost seem inept. A stupid incident from high school kept Ariel and Rock apart for over 15 years — seems kind of excessive, especially since Rock was completely in love with Ariel, pined for her, and was determined to get her back — not sure that should take 15 years.
The story about being sold into sex slavery and the horrors Ariel endured were really hard to read.
This is second book of the series and both books have been lacking — so I’m not sure about continuing to book 3.
I loved this book so much. Non stop action from the beginning will give you a huge adrenaline rush. The characters were all so great and Rock and Ariel have so much chemistry especially given the fact that they were best friends from a very young age. Their history had me in tears and the entire story certainly packed a massive emotional punch. Once again, Jane Blythe has delivered another outstanding read in this series and you will be hooked from the very first page and you become immersed in the story. This is a series that I highly recommend although I recommend all of Ms Blythe’s books. Definitely a five star read!
I received an arc copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Wow. Ruthless Scars was one intense, emotional, action packed read. Jane sure has a way with words, and knows how to draw you in. Ariel & Sebastian "Rock" were best friends growing up, until they suffered a great tragedy that lead to Rock throwing everything away. Ariel has done her best to forget about Sebastian, and wants nothing to do with him. Then night, she see's him and runs. Which leads to her into the hands of evil. Rock has never gotten over Ariel and want's to make things right. When she is taken right in front of him, he will risk everything to save her and win her heart. This was such a great book! I could not put it down.
While I enjoyed the book the author likes to YouTube her heroines I found inconsistencies.in the last book the hero had a fancy watch with a tracker and they found him in this book when he was taken she never mentions it she should have said it was taken from him but this is my issue they told me the heroine she was found by a tracker so when the villain was looking for her in his house why didn’t he use the tracker he already used it before.so the scene to hurt the little girl was unessary also the book was too similar with the same plot twist.she needs to be more original which is why it gets 3stars
OMG!! Couldn't put Ruthless Scars down, even though I have to work early the next morning, so much action, heartbreak, unconditional love. Sebastian (Rock) had never got over Ariel, but he couldn't go and talk to her until he overcame his wrong doings. Until that fateful night that she saw him and ran away and got kidnapped. Ariel sure had to go through a lot of hardships, but that is what made her a very strong lady. Jane writes the best suspense books, can't stop turning the pages. Highly recommend.
We met both lead characters in the previous book and I was intrigued to hear their back stories. I was a bit in disbelief about Rock and how he seemingly punished himself for his past, I guess that’s what made him such a strong team player.
Rock and Ariel were meant to be, but they had to go though a journey to get there! As with Jane’s books a haunting and thrilling story unfolds, the horrors take your breath away. Ariel was brave and did what she could to survive. Rock was desperate to save her.
Brava team bond so well and I am certainly loving them.
Rock and Ariel’s story was emotional, heart breaking and loving. Ariel’s been through so much trying to put her life back together and when she realizes that the man she has always loved has been in the same town all along, she’s just not prepared to see him after everything that’s happened in the past. Rock has had regret for how he treated her when they were younger and all he wants is to have a second chance with her, but when she’s taken off the street right in front of him he will do anything to get the woman he has loved forever back.
These Bravo Team books seem to be getting darker. If you have triggers this is not the book for you. If you’re a fan of this author like I am hang on it’s a wild one.
“Come on, Snow White, snap out of it.”
Arial is kidnapped and goes through some horrific things before getting away.
Rock has held back with her until it’s almost too late.
“You believe in me?” she asked softly. “Always, baby. Always. I never gave up on you, I was just trying to become the man you deserved.”
Book Two of this Series is even better than the first. Letting go of old guilt in order to protect the women he loves, Rock goes to great length to fight for her, for them. This second chance story has lots of hurdles to take, obstacles to overcome and a fight for a future they both dreamed of but think they lost. Its a book with violence and torture. Worth reading every minute of it.
The second book in this series is a second chance emotional rollercoaster. This was heavy to read, but so good. Rock and Ariel had a lot of old baggage they needed to overcome and fight for their second chance. This was not an easy book for me to read but it hooked me and it was hard to put down.
There's so much wrong with this book that I only finished because I was listening while doing tasks where finding something else wasn't possible.
The first third of the story was repetitive pondering, lamenting, and complaining about the failures of the previous relationship. Once the plot got moving, it was a little better but still kept underscoring the guilt and remorse from 15 years ago.
Now ... on to the impracticalities, and I have to let out a huge sigh. The author was too lazy to research anything or have an editor read for plot holes.
There's no way a woman can be kidnapped in broad daylight, held captive for 19 weeks, and still have an apartment waiting for her to pick up where she left off. Landlords won't let a property remain unoccupied for months when someone has disappeared.
Ariel was gone for nearly 5 months. Her social work cases would have been reassigned because no one knew whether or not Ariel would ever be found. Arthur's makes zero sense. He kidnapped her the first time supposedly as punishment for interfering in his abusive treatment of his daughter, but never tried to get her to revise the case paperwork. She was sold to a sadist who would torture her to death. After Ariel was rescued, Arthur kidnapped her a second time to force her to claim the daughter at the center of the abuse complaint was mentally ill and making up the story that there was a 2nd daughter abused and sold into slavery. A social worker is not a psychiatrist who can make that determination independently and close a criminal case. Absolutely ridiculous plotting.
Ariel escaped from the 2nd kidnapping partly because she was able to wiggle one hand free from the handcuffs and then use a hair pin to pick the lock. That hand was smashed with a hammer 3 times, twice by the small child and once by Arthur out of anger and frustration. It would have been impossible for Ariel to make her fingers function. And then, she refuses to have a doctor take care of her until after Sebastian has been rescued, operated on, and he forces her to get medical help once he awakes from surgery. None of that would have been possible with 12 broken bones in her hand!! It doesn't make any sense.
I can't even describe how frustrating it was to listen to highly trained security operatives who were former special forces operatives in various branches of the military have completely illogical conversations and be incompetent. If Arthur's minions found Ariel at Sebastian's cabin because she had a chip implanted, why weren't they concerned about him using that chip to locate her after the 2nd escape? Why were they discussing getting her treated at a hospital instead of immediately wanting to rescue their "brother" from a life-threatening situation? And why were they always so inept at getting from place to place if the Prey Security agency is owned by triplets who are billionaires? If there's no private plane or helicopter available to Bravo Team, surely those could have been chartered.
I ignored a few of these inconsistencies in the first book and hoped this one would be better. It was exponentially worse! This is the last Jane Blythe book for me.

After finishing Ruthless Scars I took somr time to digest all of the emotions that were swirling 8nside of me. There's a lot to unpack here. First and foremost this book is brilliantly written. Jane Blythe really does a deep dive into strong feelings and emotions. Be warned though, it's not for the faint of heart. It's dark, gritty and downright brutal at fimes. If you have triggers about assault this might not be the book for you. That being said, this is a love story, albeit a tragic one at times, that involves fifteen plus years of guilt, recriminations, miscommunication and resolve to atone for what came before. It's also a celebration of the resilience of the human spirit and the power that love has to heal the body, mind and soul. Sebastian "Rock" Rockman and Ariel Emerson are at the center of this story. They grew up being best friends and the accidental death of a friend rips them apart. He dedicates the next fifteen years of his life to becoming a better man. A man that Ariel would call friend if there couldn't be anything more. But before he can rekindle that relationship, he and Bravo Team must rescue her from a living nightmare. It's a slow, painful journey of recovery. One that Ariel has to fig deep to find the will to take but having Rock there every step of the just may help her find success one small step at a time.
i think the execution could have been tweaked a little bit here and there. like the path to saving the heroine after she was kidnapped felt very long-winded however the parts where the hero found one of the traffickers and know the location of the heroine felt kind of slip-shod. like why did the author chose not to write how they tortured one of the traffickers for information etc., it was just narrated out in very simplified version, and there were a lot of narration.
also, a lot of things or thoughts felt rather repetitive, like it keeps on repeating throughout the book. plus the characters' inner monologue kind of takeover rather than actual conversations. lastly is the heroine's parents who were briefly mentioned in the book however they didn't appear at all, not even a phone call which i find it rather ridiculous. i mean their only daughter was kidnapped by human traffickers, being sold, tortured and rape but they didn't appear at all etc. etc. like how self-absorbed are they? not sure if this is done on purpose or what but it was kind of an eye-roll.
it would have been a better read if the above are modified a little.
Sebastian/Rock and Ariel. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting for the old harm, but it wasn’t this. What he did was wrong but when the story shows all he did to be better it is on the extreme side. With that though, he is a great character and protector to Ariel. Ariel is shy and has some emotional baggage, but a good friend as we saw on book one with Tallulah. The compound for bravo team was described more in this book and that greenhouse and waterfall/river sound breathtaking. The danger is multi faceted and shows a dark side of human predators and human trafficking. The ending had some scary moments mixed with heartwarming as all the teams and Prey siblings came together for the wounded. The mystery with Beth is still ongoing but I find the bits and pieces of her interesting and I am excited to see how that story plays out for her, Axe, and the rest of the team.
It took me a while to decide to read this book. The ending in the last book where we find out about a connection didn’t reel me in. Too convenient.
So, I’m in two minds about this book.
What Ariel went through when she was taken was heartbreaking. Her strength to come back from that was amazing to see. Very confronting.
But. The whole going on and on and on about what happened 15years ago when they were 16 and pining over that just became annoying. I had to skim that because it was so repetitive it was doing my head in. Seriously both putting their lives in limbo for 15 years over what went down when they were 16. Blah!!
I can understand being hurt but WTF? I mean geez, waiting 15 years to apologise. That shit should not have taken 15 years.
I was really over it to the point that I was eye rolling and felt like I was hating on them, him especially. Man up mate. Stop being pathetic.
The book could have been cut down if it didn’t rehash that crap every chapter.
Shortly after Ariel Emerson gave her virginity to Sebastian ‘Rock’ Rockman, he really made her regret it. To the point she avoided him at all costs. When Sebastian gets Ariell’s friend to lure her to a public place where he can apologize for being that guy and hopefully get her back. As Ariel tries to run away after spotting Sebastian, she’s kidnapped by men who are no shy about their plans to rape and sell her.
Though Sebastian saw the men grab Ariel, he’s too far away to stop it. He does spend weeks looking for her with the help of his team. When Ariel’s found month later, she’s got a lot of ground to cover to get to her old self and Sebastian has to get past his guilt to help her heal. I liked but didn’t love this outing, I had a hard time connecting with the leads. Rating: 3.5stars
Wow! Another intense story! This story is about Rock and Ariel! It kind of makes you sick to find out what Ariel and other women have to go through in sex trafficking. Ariel is truly a strong woman to face the things she went through. Rock feels guilty of what he put Ariel through for the past fifteen years. Glad the guys were able to eliminate the bad guys to keep Ariel safe. The ending was definitely a nail biter as well as a tear jerker. So happy Ariel is working on healing her body as well as her mind. Definitely a nail biter in whether or not she would be able to be happy again. FANTASTIC job Jane! I would highly recommend this book!
This is the 2nd book in this series Bravo Team and it definitely is an emotional rollercoaster full of every feel possible. You fall onto this story and it becomes a visual image between the storyline and characters that you will not put down. The main characters are so strong from the abuses they have been through. I cannot image them with anyone else. Secondary characters even the villains are so 3D you can feel them deep in your heart and soul. This author has an amazing insight into what makes her characters so riveting. As a reader I was torn apart, crying, laughing and just in awe of this book.
Storyline is good, character development is descent & believable. The books in this series and those connected, do all seem to have the same pattern: man betrays woman or does something egregiously stupid and causes a separation, then after some heroics all is forgiven. This can become monotonous. It’s also frustrating that minor characters and their stories are completely ignored/dropped. Would have loved to see the abused children in this story get a happy ending too. Instead, nothing.
If you have any sexual assault trauma, skip this one.
I was raped as a child and I also have an active imagination. I felt that the explicit details were not necessary for the story. I also paged through a lot of the self doubt and recrimination details. I finished the book, but I’m not sure that I will continue the series. Fortunately I don’t remember many details of my own experience so this was not as hard for me as it may be for others and overall it is well written and I applaud the goal of bringing more attention to the horrors of human trafficking.
I’ve tried to give this series a chance but the trigger warnings should be placed higher on these books. I can deal with some trauma but the ways these crimes are committed I can’t even enjoy the book because I needed to skip chapters. Also for security teams or whatever they are they don’t do a good job at protecting if they are just going to captured again.
This was another good addition to the series. My heart hurt for both characters for multiple reasons, and for past and present events. Although it did take me a lot of the book to warm up to the female main character, which is the reason for my rating not the quality of the book. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat from cover to cover, and I look forward to seeing what happens next.
Young love turned sour by the death of a friend. Second chance meeting blown to bits when the woman he desires gets kidnapped right in front of him. Rescuing her is an option but he has to find her first. Will they be able to build a relationship after the terror and trauma she has been through at the hands of the monster who bought her? I loved this story, it is real and raw, it brought me to tears and then warmed my heart.
A lifetime ago Ariel thought she had everything she wanted then things changed. Sebastian never forgave himself for the tragedies he caused. When their lives intersect but take a turn for the worst can the two of them survive. There are triggers of abuse, torture and others in this story so be prepared.
I liked the subject matter and the story line. I gave it four stars because there is a lot of repetition in it. Always going over the past and the issues from that. It was repeated too often. Otherwise I have enjoyed the 2 books in the series so far.
You get dropped onto Rock & Ariel with big bang! Knowing the back story from book 1 you know there is alot of pain. It gets darker & pulls at your heartstrings so much. Rock is just that, unmovable rock in his penance to do right by Ariel. The team is fabulous as they show their support system. I enjoyed the strength Ariel shows towards to end.
This book ticks off all the emotions. I wanted to cry, laugh, I was sad and happy and above all angry. I was angry at the hero, the human trafficker, and the people that purchase children and woman. I would definitely recommend this series and especially this story
