This isn't a guide for pastors and church leaders to actually plan or even understand how they might plan worship. This book is useless for such a purpose. Hoyt Hickman has written an opinionated history of worship in the part of Methodist tradition that created the United Methodist Church. There are opinions sprinkled and spouted throughout the book. However, there is nothing that teaches or guides in creating worship services in it. I won't say that the book is terrible, but I wondered while reading and still wonder after reading why this book exists.

Necessary for UMC

Read as a need to better understand the worship in the UMC. The book although dry was informative. Read this foe a class.
