Quick Summary
Colin O'Leary has spent the last year trying to prove to his family, especially his younger brother, Ryan, that he's a better man than the one who ran away from them for three years. He sees an opportunity to do just that when Elizabeth Brannigan partners with him to revive a dive bar owned by her father (who's also her boss).

The big issues
See, Elizabeth has something to prove to her family, too. Dad's getting ready to retire and she wants his job as CEO but her brother, Keith, seems to be the front runner. Her partnership with Colin is magic...and so is their attraction to each other.

What I loved
Colin. Yes, he's a charmer but he's also a man of substance. He's perfect for the prickly Elizabeth, using patience and compassion to disarm and bring out the best in her. They made a great team as business partners and lovers. Both have something to prove and the contrasts of their agendas made the story extremely interesting, especially as it illuminated the best about them and what bonded the two.

The O'Leary clan also added some comic relief at times and I loved the follow up of Quinn & Ryan and Griff & Indy. They're still important to the series.

The bottom line
Each story in the series seems to top the last one. I was rooting for Colin before this story and now I'm an even bigger fan. Pairing him with someone like Elizabeth (a control freak, though a talented one) was brilliant and I enjoyed their romance and business relationship. Hopefully we'll get more of them, too, in future stories. 4.5 stars

3 - 3.25 Klutzy Stars

Elizabeth "Libby" Brannigan has arrived in Chicago from Florida to check out a property she discovered among her fathers' personal holdings. Their family takes properties, normally spas, revamps them and makes a profit. Now she discovers this failing biker bar that's been losing money in his holdings and wants make it profitable to prove to her father that she's the better choice, versus her brother, to run the company when he retires. Elizabeth has family issues that have manifested themselves in poor health.

What she didn't count on was meeting the prodigal O'Leary brother, Colin, while researching local bars in the area. When she tries to get Ryan to partner with her and build up the Irish Pub without her family's knowledge, Colin sees this as an opportunity to prove that he's not running away from his family anymore. He wants to prove to Ryan that he can stand on his own two feet and be a productive part of the family and business. He wants what Ryan has with Quinn as well. He's ready to add the the O'Leary family. Though his attraction to Elizabeth grows quickly, he knows she's not in Chicago to stay. Colin is the only person who can get her to relax and not be so stiff.

Can Colin convince Libby that she can have everything she wants and really needs with him and the O'Leary clan? Will Elizabeth realize she doesn't need to prove herself to her family, only to herself?

I liked a lot about this book. But there is the issue of how all of a sudden the story ends. I don't know if it's because the author continues the smaller parts of the characters stories in the subsequent books, but it's just strange to me. They are easy quick reads.

I'm moving on to the next installment.

In the plethora of the romance novels is quite hard to find something special. Authors’ creativity and talent are put to the test even for those books intended solely for true fans of the genre. How I’m not such a fan, although lately I kind of read only contemporary romance, I can say that I am quite demanding and I’m rolling my eyes quite quickly. Regarding Something to Prove I can affirm that I had not the opportunity to do so and that is a (very) good thing.

Each of us have (maybe) something to prove, and especially Colin and Elizabeth. It is important to them to realize what they have to prove and especially what they are willing to sacrifice to do it. Professional and personal interests will collide, and the decisions (that the author has "motivated" properly) will not be the happiest ones. History of their families will make the "fight" fiercer and more dangerous; dangerous because the victory on a plane can be a big loss on the other. Colin and Elizabeth as main characters are enjoyable, enough shaped to convey us about their feelings, fears and risks that they are willing (or not) to assume or assert.

Shannyn Schroeder avoided well the negative effects of stereotypes and when she used the clichés she did it for the benefit of the love story. A love story that has the advantage of being perfectly valid, the feelings and resentments carried by protagonists could be found in real life. I could say that the main trump of the story is the naturalness and plausibility of the characters and of the way in which the events take place, despite the existence of some explanations a bit too easy at times, and also the way, a delicate one, in which the intimate scenes are created.

Narrated in the third person and giving us the both lovers’ points of view (even if they consider their relationship to be just casual sex) Something to Prove was for me an enjoyable read as I think it will be for everyone with a romantic side.

We have two individuals with a chip on their shoulder not a bad one they just wanted to prove themselves that they had what it took. Colin felt like he needed to show people what it takes to be a business owner and be successful at it. And then we have Elizabeth she was not a weak woman and I appreciate that because I truly hate weak woman, but she wasn't one of them she stood up for herself and proved that she could fix things. Was happy that Colin and Elizabeth met and were what each other needed. What I enjoyed the most was catching up with the O'Leary's..enjoy!

My grandmother used to always say: "We find our strengths, in learning to be weak." With Something to Prove, author Shannyn Schroeder proves there's truth to that statement. Elizabeth and Colin have let pride rule their lives. That choice has not always left them in the best of circumstances. From strained relationships to moments of self - doubt, their choices have not been kind to their hearts. When fate steps in and guides them to each other, these two lonely souls are about to discover just what they've been missing all along. Count on Schroeder to spice up the heartwarming moments.

Something To Prove is book three in The O’Leary’s series and is an Adult, Contemporary Romance written by Shannyn Schroeder. I received this eARC from the author in exchange for an honest review through Tasty Book Tours.

4 Sweet, Romantic Stars!
Incredibly Sweet With A Bit Of Mystery and Intrigue! A Perfect Afternoon Read.

The Review:
Elizabeth Brannigan is out to prove to her father that she’s the better choice to take over as ECO of her father's company instead of her brother. After Elizabeth goes through her fathers assets and finds a neglected business, she gets the idea to turn the Irish Pub from a run down, failing business into a newly polished, profitable bar without the help of her family and prove her worth to her father and brother.

The only thing is, she knows nothing about running an Irish pub so she decides to enlist the help of local talent in exchange for a percentage of profits and sales. However, after accepting the help of the hot, tempting Colin O’Leary, she quickly decides mixing business and pleasure may have gotten her in way over her head.

Colin O’Leary wants to branch out on his own after spending the last year working under his younger brother in their families pub. He made the huge mistake of running after his father died, leaving their close knit family to pick up the pieces alone. Now that he’s back and ready to prove himself, he’s finding it hard to gain the trust of the brother he so desperately wants it from.

Succeeding on his own will prove once and for all he can be trusted so he accepts Elizabeth's offer to partner together and in the process, make enough money to afford his own place.

When Elizabeth and Colin meet, sparks ignite and these two can’t seem to keep their hands off each other no matter how hard they try to resist. They finally give up and just go for it, which was thrilling to read. They are instantly attracted to each other and meet in a fun and unique way. But Elizabeth has some major trust issues and Colin getting her to come around takes it toll on both of them. I really enjoyed Elizabeth. She was strong and independent but she also needed help and someone to lean on. Colin was wonderful, trustworthy and dependable and I loved how he took care of Elizabeth even before he realized he loved her.

These two have huge hurdles to overcome before they find their HEA’s and add on top great family dynamics, fun and interesting characters, a saboteur who’s trying to ruin all their hard work and two opposing, strong willed people who find something better inside themselves when they work together and you have the perfect recipe for an outstanding romance.

The Wrap Up:
This read was sexy, sweet , fun and definitely entertaining. I loved the great cast of supporting character and the mains were complex and well written. I’m definitely a fan and look forward to reading more from this author.

Elizabeth has always been trying to one-up her brother and gain her father's approval. She has worked her @ss off trying to make him see she's just as capable as her brother when it comes to taking over the business, but she still feels like she needs to do more. So when the opportunity arises for her to 'save' his father's bar in Chicago, she's determined to do it on her own. But determination can only take her so far, so she seeks someone experienced to help her through it.

In comes Colin O' Leary. Colin returned to town after spending years away from the family business. He spends his days and nights working at the bar now that his brother is busy starting a family. But still, he feels he needs to prove to his family that he's ready to take the reins of the business without constant supervision. Tired of being shut down and eager to prove he's not a screw-up, he jumps at the chance at a partnership with Elizabeth and is determined to make their new business a success.

But can these two stubborn, hard-working individuals slow down and recognize what's right in front of them?

I admit, I had my doubts with this one simply because I could not see Colin and Elizabeth together. Both were strong-headed, independent and too focused on their goals to dedicate any time to a relationship. So how was the author going to work though it to make this pairing believable?

Kudos to Shanny Shroeder for making it happen! Through flirty banter, good-natured (and not so good-natured) bickering and honest interactions, she managed to bring to the forefront Elizabeth and Colin's connection every chance she could. I loved watching them together. Be it fighting over the duties each was going to take over or just sharing a meal at the end of a hard day at work, Elizabeth and Colin's connection always shined through.

Of course, it helped tremendously that they had an awesome chemistry that never failed to make it through the page. Stolen glances, barely there touches and heated arguments always served to showcase it. Which I loved! And when the emotions started to make their appearance it made for even a more enjoyable read. All those conflicting emotions mixed with the undercurrent of sexual tension between these two had me completely sold that Elizabeth and Colin had a chance at something more.

Something to Prove is the third book in the series and can be read as a stand alone. I've read the previous two books and enjoyed them too, but I have to say this is my favorite so far.

All in all, a sexy romance between two very stubborn individuals that finally allowed themselves a chance to truly live their lives for themselves.

*I received a copy of this title in exchange of my honest opinion.

I got tired of all the family drama in this one. First we have the whole Colin/Ryan thing. I get why Ryan was mad at Colin, he wasn't one of my favorite characters, too mired down in the whole woe is me, my brother won't believe in me. Well, maybe that is because you ditched the family, so you deserved it, getting back that trust is hard to do.

The there is Elizabeth's family, well with family like that who needs enemies. I can't believe how the dad pitted Elizabeth and Keith against each other, nor how far Keith went at times. Knowing that, made Elizabeth's manic behavior make sense.

I had a little hard time buying into the romance between Elizabeth and Colin, their business partnership was easier to get. I liked how both of them worked together when Elizabeth wasn't over thinking too much.

I was glad to see the choices that Elizabeth made at the end, especially the one from her father.

This is shaping up to be a great series! I'm still laughing quietly to myself from reading this book. It has everything I'm looking for in a contemporary romance. It's a business to lovers story involving two strong, independent, smart, flawed but amusing characters. The pacing was even and the story well plotted - twists weren't telegraphed, which really delighted me. The sex scenes were sensual and passionate though not salacious and gratuitous. This is the third book in a series, but I didn't suffer from not reading the first (Yet!). Ms. Scroeder really brings the funny as well -
The secondary characters are strong, the setting well drawn, the dialogue witty, and the ease of immersion great. The ending was satisfying though it did leave room for more books.....Looking forward to those.

Damn this book is great.
This book is told from two point of views. I really honestly appreciate when an author does this sometimes. Because I want to know what both characters or more are thinking. And when meet Colin not going to lie I kind of pictures Colin Farrell at the start. Colin left the family behind when his dad died. For 3 years he disappeared. Being back only a year and he is still trying to prove to his family he can do more and he's not leaving. But Ryan his younger brother is not letting up much or trusting he can handle the family bar.
In walks Elizabeth who is all business like and trying to secretly redo her dad's bar. With a complete make over. Elizabeth wants to prove she is capable of taking over the family business. When she gets to Chicago she does some research on the neighborhood bars. She steps into one bar and thinks wow there is something here. She meets good looking Colin. Elizabeth doesn't want to get involved with anyone. She is there to prove to her father that she can be CEO. But when Colin offers her a deal in being partners together to save the bar, can they both stick to being business partners? The chemistry between them is so great they may get more then they bargained for with this deal. Colin can finally prove his responsible enough to do more at a bar and stick around. Elizabeth can prove she isn't some little sister. But can Elizabeth and Colin get along long enough to do the job? Will the job of putting the bar back together prove to be to much?

Something to Prove: O’Learys 3 by Shannyn Schroeder
“Finding something more, 4 stars”

Elizabeth is out to prove to her father that she deserves the family company over her brother. She will do anything and everything in order to get the title of CEO. But what happens when she finds so much more than a failing business? Will Elizabeth be able to handle the changes coming her way?
Colin just wants his family to see him how he is now and not as the kid who ran when he was younger. When a business opportunity arises, he jumps at the chance to show them who he is now. What he didn’t expect was to be captivated by Elizabeth. Will he be able to capture more than just his families respect?
I really enjoyed how these two progressed from strangers to business partners, to friends, then to lovers. Something to Prove is my first book by Schroeder and I was pleasantly surprised. I hurt for Elizabeth and wanted more for her and I’m glad that Colin could show her her worth. Colin has a huge heart. If you want a good story with a little Irish in it look no further.

5 STAR Review by Jodi for Ruby Red Romance Review

I loved Colin and Elizabeth. I loved their chemistry. I loved their wit. But most of all, I loved them as individuals. I enjoyed watching Colin prove that he was enough. He has what it takes to make a business successful and to keep thriving. I loved watching Elizabeth take on the world. I loved that she proved she had what it took to make things good and right. I loved that she was able to show her strength as a business woman and I loved that she stood up for herself. This book is really about self discovery and proving to others what you already know to be true. Each has to prove they have what it takes to be successful.

I loved watching these two grow and individuals and as a couple. They were are great balance for each other. I enjoyed getting to see the O'Leary gang again as well. I enjoyed this book and hope we get more from them from time to time.

Colin and Elizabeth’s story

Colin is the oldest of the O’Leary clan and he has returned after being away for a few years. He ran in fear of letting everyone down and this has caused friction between him and Ryan. He’s back but getting his brother to accept he’s changed has not been easy. In comes Elizabeth, Florida native, who is looking to prove herself as well and doesn’t understand the purchase of this dive bar in Chicago but sees it as an opportunity to shine. These two form an interesting partnership where secrets are revealed. I could see myself learning how to pour a beer with this group.
Next story please!

3.5 ⭐️ I really enjoyed Elizabeth and Colin’s story I just struggle with how abruptly this author ends stories. Initially I thought it might be because it’s a series and you would see more of their story come in subsequent books but that hasn’t proven to be the case, I’m left with questions from each book with no answers emerging. They are excellent HFNs but I want more than just the passage of time in subsequent books to give my the HEA.
I loved seeing Elizabeth find meaning and to get out from under the saga does of her past and I loved seeing Colin find value in himself

Have to say Shannyn Schroeder and her O'Learys have become a favorite of mine. Colin is a man that has made me wonder what happened to him and the family. We see a side of him nobody sees yet also the best. Elizabeth is exactly what he needs and vice versa. Together these two bring out the best in each other. Cannot wait for the next O'Leary.

I have liked Colin since we were introduced to him in the first book of the series.
Elisabeth and Colin have lived in their siblings shadows for far too long so together the tackle a project to prove themselves, but along the way the chemistry takes over and the lines get blurred.

Elizabeth and Collin business partners to lover story. I like this short little story and explain a lot about these two characters that were just trying to get out from their older sibling wing and do something on their own and in that process with each other they had fallen in love with each other and it was so amazing I read this book in just of couple of hours. I love the back and forth with them and how they had each other back when they got tough with the business side and the relationship side of things.

I don’t know why I worry so much when I pick up a new romance novel nowadays. I am always pleasantly surprised, and Something to Prove ended up being right up my alley. It was a slow start, but I just knew if I read on I was going to like both main characters, Elizabeth Brannigan and Colin O’Leary. The set up was too ideal for my romance read to go wrong!

The plot is one I have, personally, not yet read, and it felt refreshing. Elizabeth comes into Chicago as a woman on a mission: to prove her father and brother that she has earned the right to being CEO to her father’s company when he retires, which is in the works of being given to her brother, Keith, since he is a man and older. (How rude!). She won’t have that. Elizabeth knows she has what it takes over her competitive sibling. With the idea of sneaking behind her families back to flip a property/business into a profitable endeavor, she realizes it’s a bar! –Way out of her realm of flipping properties, but she knows this is her only chance! With this chip on her shoulders as driving force, she seeks out a partner in crime to help manage the daunting task who understands what to do. This is where I think it get’s quite adorable. She does her research, seeking out help, and stumbles into O’Leary’s. A local pub with a very good-looking bartender. Enter Colin O’Leary, who may not necessarily be the professional fit she is looking for, but he's obviously way too easy on the eyes.

This story starts out quite funny. She seeks out the owner, and instead finds Colin (brother of the owner), a charming, handsome bartender who can effortlessly make your knees go weak with a glance. Since she misses out on the owner, she settles for a drink and decides to take it easy –for a moment!

Elizabeth from the start is as high strung as they come (Colin references a stick up her ass on multiple occasions) in her business suits and tight buns. However, when you’re propositioned by the cute bartender for a one night stand nothing seems more appropriate than to, of course, agree! Unfortunately for her, her clumsiness gets the best of her, and Colin attributes it to her two glasses wine, which has her incredibly embarrassed. Colin suddenly turns down sex, and sends Elizabeth on her way! You don’t see that too often in romance novels. (Giggle).

I liked Elizabeth. She is driven, self aware, had has some of my favorite quirks to match her feisty beauty. She can be clumsy but always tries to keep her head in the game, and her eyes on her goals. She is a strong female character that was a wonderful challenge for her male counterpart.

With Elizabeth’s ego now battered and bruised, she keeps her chin-up and focuses on the job, calling in interviews for a proposed business partnership. In walks Colin again, to her surprise, wanting to take on the project. Through his charm, and surprising knowledge, he convinces Elizabeth to contract his expertise, little does she know this would also be in the bedroom too!

Sparks fly, and although they try to keep business and pleasure in order, it proves to be more difficult than Elizabeth had imagined. She can’t seem to relax, but what I loved about their … err, friendship, was that Colin proved to be an excellent teacher in all facets of her life.

Colin O’Leary has everything you look for in a fictional boyfriend. He’s witty, good-looking, compassionate, and a family man. He has a troubled past, but just as Elizabeth has a large chip on her shoulders, Colin’s past proves to be just the same. Working through the same difficulties of proving himself to his family he still finds a sense of home being near them. He really is an awesome guy!

When these two polar opposites get together in the beginning you can’t imagine them working out. However, they balance each other so perfectly it’s hard to realize when it all happened when you began to notice they make each other better people. It’s stinkin’ adorable, actually.

The chemistry was there from page one, but I didn’t find myself truly caring about these two until a quarter through the book, but once I hit that mark I wanted them to work so bad. The author does a great job of having you worry, or question what the future holds for them to the very end. I won’t ruin the end, but don’t you just hate it when you want to scream at both characters when you know you are merely pages away from the end, and you shout, “You have only 10 pages left! Get your shit together you two!”? That was this book for me. I was grinning like an idiot when I reached the last page, and it was all so worth it. This is book #3 in the O’Leary series and I have every intention of checking out the others if they can match this book in adorability. 4 out of 5 stars!

1 star.

I have to start out by saying that though this book has a fairly interesting storyline, I can't recall a character that I've hated as much as I can't stand Elizabeth Brannigan. I have thirty notes highlighted in my kindle and eighteen of them are along the lines of "hate her" and "OMG what a bitch!". So, I freely admit that my insane dislike of her might have colored my opinion on the rest of this book. Now, on to the story.

Elizabeth just wants to show her father that she's as capable of becoming the CEO of their property investment empire as her brother, Keith, is. She's always overshadowed by him and decides the way to prove herself is to single-handedly turn a failing property into a smashing success. She finds a bar on their books that has been in the red for years. Determined to turn it around, she goes to a local competitor and asks for his help.
"I own a bar that is in desperate need of an overhaul. I've done research on the bars in the area, and yours is the most successful and closest to what I'm trying to build."

Sitting behind the desk, he steepled his fingers in front of his face. "You want me to help you build up my competition?"

"I'm not in direct competition with you. I would make it in your interest to help me succeed. I'm offering you a percentage of profits and a bonus when I sell."

Ryan O'Leary isn't interested, but his brother, Colin, is all over it.
He needed to find a spark, something interesting before this life swallowed him up.

With everyone in his family getting married and having babies, Colin is ready to settle down. He wants something to call his own and agrees to help Elizabeth, knowing the profits he'll make from the sale of her bar will put him on his way to what he wants. There are a lot of triumphs and set-backs with the bar, and matters get further complicated when Colin and Elizabeth give in to temptation and start having sex. They're both adults and know what their relationship is--and what it isn't.
"This was a fabulous release. I had a really good time here, but it can't happen again."

So. I already told you that I hated Elizabeth. She's a condescending bitch, constantly talking down to Colin and treating him like a child.
"This place is disgusting. Did you even bother to clean before you left last night?"

"Everything was spotless when I locked up."

"I have a hard time believing that. Do you suppose the crap fairy stopped by?"

Colin's only slightly better. At least he's respectful. Well, sort of.
Fuck. They'd been feeling so successful, they hadn't even thought to worry about theft. How was he going to tell Elizabeth? She was already so stressed about the bowling alley.

Maybe he'd wait until they'd had sex and she was relaxed. The thought of her tense and rigid body made him reassess. Maybe after the second round of orgasms she'd be ready for bad news.

And this:
Besides, if he showed her a really good time, she might even cut him a deal when he asked to buy the bar.

Maybe not so respectful. At least he's handy and has a great family. There was some minor hotness and some character growth with Colin and his brother. Otherwise, DNW. I would have liked it a lot more if it had ended differently. Come to think of it, no I wouldn't. There wasn't a whole lot I liked about this story, and these characters deserve each other. Needless to say, I won't be reading the rest of the series.

Yay a new romance in Shannyn Schroeder's fun and sexy O'Leary's series! In Something to Prove oldest brother Colin finds love with Elizabeth Brannigan, but their road to happily ever after is anything but smooth.

Colin has been fighting to prove himself to his family since he returned to town after a three year absence. He has been steadfast and dependable working as a bartender in the family bar but earning his brother's trust has been darn near impossible. While he has been content to work for Ryan, Colin's dream is to someday purchase a bar of his own. So when Elizabeth Brannigan needs help renovating her family's rough and tumble biker bar (!), Colin is eager to provide her with his expertise in exchange for a share of the profits. The fact that Colin is extremely interested in exploring their mutual attraction is added incentive to assist Elizabeth, but Colin is going to have to do some pretty fast talking to convince her to break her strict no mixing business with pleasure rule.

Elizabeth is all business, all the time. She and her brother Keith have been locked in fierce battle to secure the CEO position in the family's business and with her father's retirement looming, she is determined to come out on top. Seizing the opportunity to turn around the failing bar, Elizabeth undertakes the renovation on the sly with the hopes of impressing her father and winning the coveted position. Elizabeth has a take charge, no nonsense attitude and she butts heads with the more laidback, easy going Colin on more than one occasion. Working with a partner and taking his advice is difficult for Elizabeth, but if she is going to successfully revamp the bar, Elizabeth knows she needs to trust Colin's judgment.

Colin regrets abandoning his family after his father's death and he has been trying to make up for it ever since he returned to town. He has made great strides in restoring his relationship with his extended family but he still feels like he does not quite measure up to Ryan's expectations. Helping Elizabeth revamp the bar will provide Colin with the money to buy his own place and hopefully show Ryan once and for all that he plans to stay in town for good. Colin is eager to help Elizabeth overhaul her business but he is also eager to loosen up his uptight, buttoned up business partner. An added bonus would be convincing Elizabeth that giving in to their attraction won't affect their business arrangement.

Elizabeth and Colin's professional relationship is anything but smooth in the beginning. Elizabeth is not willing to cede control and she is frustrated by Colin's more casual approach to business. And of course there is also the matter of her attraction to her outgoing and flirtatious partner. The more time they spend together, the more difficult it is to resist giving in to their passion. Colin finally works past her defenses and presents a pretty convincing argument in favor of them indulging in their desire and although she still has reservations, Elizabeth agrees to a short term affair. When a health crises occurs, their casual fling begins to feel like a real relationship but will their personal insecurities tear them apart?

Elizabeth and Colin are appealing characters and their respective personal baggage brings a little bit more angst to the storyline than the previous novels. The O'Leary family dynamics are always compelling and their scenes together are always a joy. Elizabeth and Colin's romance slowly simmers in the background as they wrestle with their personal demons but their conflicts are realistically and quickly resolved.

Something to Prove is another spectacular addition to Shannyn Schroeder's O'Leary's series and I am eagerly awaiting the next installment.

Something to Prove by Shannyn Schroeder is the 3rd book in her O’Leary’s series. I have not read the first two books in this series, as this is the first time I have read Schroeder. After reading this book, I want to go back to the first two books and find out more about this great O’Leary family. Don’t worry though, this book can be read as a standalone, as you meet most of the O’Leary’s throughout the story.

Something to Prove is about Colin O’Leary and Elizabeth Brannigan. Elizabeth, who works for her father’s business, has something to prove, as she is always in competition with her older brother. She arrives in Chicago to take over an Irish Pub that is a disaster & falling apart. Elizabeth knows that her brother owns the property, but she is determined to fix it up and make it a viable property to prove to her family that she can do this on her own and sell at a profit. But it isn’t going to be easy, as she is faced with an impossible task, as well as incompetent employees.

Colin has recently returned to help his family with the family pub, which his brother Ryan runs. Colin has to prove himself, as Ryan doesn’t trust him not to leave them again. When Elizabeth does research on the bars in Chicago, she meets Colin and in a short time, Colin goes to work for Elizabeth to help revamp the Irish Pub. He continues to work late at night for his family bar, but Colin wants his own place one day. This time he wants the responsibility and to stay.

There is immediate chemistry between Colin and Elizabeth, but they are two very unlikely people to make any kind of relationship work. Elizabeth is uptight, a workaholic, and is obsessed with proving to her father that she is capable of taking over his business, as he nears retirement. She resents her brother always being the favorite in her fathers’ eyes. She wants nothing to stand in her way, and that includes the sexy fun loving, Colin. He is most definitely a hunk, who is also a ladies man. But even though Elizabeth will not mix pleasure with business, Colin finds himself totally attracted to her. What follows is a wonderful contemporary romance that is against all odds,

Besides the wonderful romance that slowly builds; the storyline of revamping the bar, sabotage, and meeting the other O’Leary’s was a lot of fun. Watching Elizabeth slowly find herself unable to resist Colin, and part of her trying to fight it, as she plans to leave Chicago when her job is done, made this even better. In comparison to Colin, with a wonderful family, Elizabeth was very much alone. Her father’s tactic of putting the siblings in competition against each other was sad.

At times, Elizabeth was annoying, especially refusing to see how Colin felt about her, and her stubbornness in thinking she had to do this herself, even to the point of not seeing her brother trying to make amends. Will Elizabeth allow herself to open up her heart to Colin? Will she convince her father that she can run the company? Will Colin prove himself to have his own place? Will they both end up together? You must read this book to find the answers. I really enjoyed this fabulous and unlikely romance that was a fast and enjoyable read, despite Elizabeth being annoying at times. Shannyn Schroeder weaves a wonderful story of two people trying to prove themselves to their families, each with their own issues, and finding love along the way. I wholly recommend reading Something to Prove.

Elizabeth and Colin had both have Something To Prove to their families. For Elizabeth – she wants to show her father that she could handle being the next CEO of their family business. Never mind that she was a woman, that she was popping antacids to settle her stomach upset due to stress or going behind her father’s back to make her pet project. Auditing, she came across a bar in Chicago, she thought it would be a perfect project to show her father how she works better than her brother. But, she needs more than her brains to get things going and dealing with the rough crowd that has been frequenting the establishment. Who better to ask than the handsome bartender-slash-co-owner of a nearby successful Irish Pub?

If Elizabeth has Something To Prove to her father, Colin has something to prove not just to his brother but his whole family. He screwed up big time when he walked out on them. Now, all he wants is to prove that he can be responsible enough to own a bar of his own. Elizabeth may be able to help him. But can he keep his hands on this beautiful woman in front of him?

They have made something amazing out of a near-dilapidated bar – regardless of their constant clash and bickering. It was great seeing Elizabeth finally loosen up. She tries to fight it hard, but Colin is a charming guy. No matter how tall the walls around Elizabeth are – she was about to lose her heart on him. Question is, are they mature enough to mix business with pleasure? Or will they have to choose only one?

My heart goes to these two characters, who have made some mistakes in the past and are very much willing to rectify and make up for their shortcomings. But, up to what extent? Elizabeth was on the verge of bleeding her stomach out because of stress, and Colin – (although, I was wondering what made him turn his back on his family), I was hoping they would give him the chance he deserves. He was working his ass off on the bar. Elizabeth’s pet project was the chance he was waiting for. But, their hard work is in danger as someone barges in their bar and tries to sabotage it.

We don’t need to please other people to know our worth. Just do your job to the best of your ability, compete with yourself rather than with others and never forget to have fun. Life is too short to waste on being miserable.

A story about love, romance, sibling rivalries, trust, families and priorities. Something To Prove is sexy, romantic, heartwarming and heartbreaking. The cover had lived up to its expectation. I have enjoyed reading this novel, and excited to meet the rest of the O’Learys.

Colin O'Leary ran off instead of stepping up and running the family business when his father passed away. But now he's back, hoping to prove to his family that he's the man they thought he could be, willing to work hard and make up for the time he was gone.

Elizabeth Brannigan has something to prove as well. Her father's retiring, and she wants his seat as CEO, but it looks like her brother may steal it away from her. Partnering with Colin to turn around a failing bar seems like the perfect opportunity to prove her business skills, but this partnership might just end up being about more than financial success.

The Verdict: The attraction is instant, but both Colin and Elizabeth have too much on the line to be distracted by lust. Colin may seem laid back compared to Elizabeth's cool professionalism, but they're really the perfect compliment to each other.

Elizabeth is understandably stressed, and her need for control and perfection is an unfortunate byproduct, but Colin is observant, practical, and patient, and he brings out her better side. Their joint business faces some unique challenges, reinforcing their need to rely on each other, and things quickly begin to heat up between them.

I love that though Colin's initial plan was to get back in his family's good graces, he did it by venturing out on his own. I would have expected him to try to prove his worth so he could take a piece of their late father's bar, but instead he set out to create his own presence in the neighborhood. He didn't stand around hoping they'd eventually see his new maturity; he went out and did it by himself. Well, alongside Elizabeth.

I did think it was a bit foolish the way Elizabeth approached her own challenge, though. Sneaking off to secretly reinvent one of her father's failing investments didn't seem like the most logical, sound approach, and nothing that starts off that shady is going to go according to plan. Of course, those unplanned issues opened things up between her and Colin, though, so even though it wasn't the best strategy, it certainly turned out for the best.

I also loved that while they had a common goal, they didn't really see eye-to-eye on things for a while. It showed just how different from each other they were while proving just how much they needed each other. That they would come to need so much more than just a business partnership was wonderful to watch unfold. Definitely another great read in the O'Leary series!

I put this book down when I finished, and my first thought was “Shannyn Schroeder went to my high school”. Second thought was that I knew those people. See., I went to high school in the northeast, in a predominantly Irish-Catholic area: and I even went to a girls school. All of these issues: the family dynamic, the pressures to both acknowledge and pay homage to the heritage: those are additional obstacles, usually put forward by family.

In this book, we meet Elizabeth or Libby as she prefers: driven, focused and fiercely competitive, Libby and her brother are battling for control of the family business when their father retires. While there is no doubt that one of his children will get the prize, there’s no guarantees that Libby will win, and thus feel the acceptance from her father that she so desires. Looking through the financials, she discovers an underperforming diamond in the rough, and decides her mission will be to bring this Irish Pub back to life.

Colin is still trying to prove himself to his family: devastated when his father died, he ran from Chicago and had little to no contact with his family for three years. Wounds like these run deep and fester long: his family still hasn’t welcomed him back into the fold, not completely. His experience running his family’s pub make him the perfect employee to advise and help Libby make her venture a success.

This story was fun: the interactions between the two were clever and Libby has the right mix of utter sense and nonsense, full of quirks and phobias. Colin is a good man who wants everything: home, hearth, love and success and the money he will earn teaching Libby to manage a successful enterprise will bankroll his own plan to open his own pub. While the two battle their attraction and see it as being problematic in their business relationship, they agree to a no-attachment affair.

Of course, the rule of no attachments is the hardest to keep, and the two are slowly becoming much more to each other. When Colin sees that Libby is driving herself into illness, his pushing and prodding and tender ministrations show Libby that this is a man to keep. I really enjoyed this story set in Chicago, the family and interpersonal dynamics were beautifully detailed and felt viable: I think I’ve even seen/heard some of those conversations.

I really liked Colin here. I knew from reading book one ( More Than This ) that he was going to have to do some work to get me 100% on his side, and for the most part, he did. He's still a work in progress, but he's putting in his time and definitely isn't the same guy who left his family in the lurch several years ago. (Though we still don't have the whole story behind that drama, which makes the story feel a bit unfinished. I can't imagine where we'd get that information, if not in Colin's book, so... ?) Anyway, I enjoyed watching him make something of himself that he could be proud of and doing it while out of his family's shadow. The bar felt like the right choice for him, and I was quickly on his side and hoping he'd somehow be able to stay with the business.

Plus, I just love the O'Learys, full stop. He'd have to work harder at being a tool for me not to come around to his side when the rest of the O'Learys are with him. :)

Unfortunately, Elizabeth was a bit harder to love from start to finish. There were parts of her that were endearing--the "Libby parts", as Colin thought of them, especially her weird clumsy awkwardness--but when she was in stick-up-her-butt mode and nursing the years-old grudge against her brother? Not so much. Plus, her family is pretty much the polar opposite of the O'Learys. How did her brother not realize that she still resented the heck out of him for what he'd done when she was in college and didn't trust him even the tiniest little bit? They worked together, for pete's sake.

When Colin and Elizabeth were together, though, they both managed to bring out the best in each other. Colin helped Elizabeth to channel her inner Libby more, and Elizabeth made Colin stretch beyond the working-for-his-brother rut that he'd been in since his return and thinking about how to make their new business venture a success. That she ends up being the cause of their relationship black moment was more disappointing than surprising--fortunately, she managed to get both the stick and her head out of her butt in time to get to a feel-good HEA in the end.

Bring on Moira's story; I'm ready!
