I live and breathe the ice. It’s embedded in my dark, black soul. Going pro is my only goal before taking over the family business for my father. My life is all planned out. I don’t have room for anything or anyone else. Until I bump into her. She sets a fire within me that I want to burn out. I only have my goal in mind and don’t do relationships. I have a few women on speed dial, but that’s it. Yet she’s all I seem to think about. She’s overtaken my world. But I can’t have her. I can’t drag her into my darkness. I need to focus on my career and my future; she deserves better than me. Yet, I can’t let her go. I need her, and damn straight, I will ensure she needs me too.
Morgan
Life hasn’t been easy. My mother is a drunk, my father’s gone, and my sister, well, I’d prefer to say I’m an only child. I’m working two jobs just to get through college. I keep my head down, counting the days until I leave this town. But then I bump into him. And I became his target while he had women dangling off his arm. I try to stay in the shadows out of his way, but then I’m placed with his team. He’s everywhere, and I have nowhere to hide. I become all he sees; I become his obsession. Ensuring he becomes mine. But then he hurts me, and I see his true colors. I freeze him out, unwilling to lose myself more than I already have. But he’s not willing to let go. To give up. He’s proving he’d do anything to fight for me. Even kill. But can I put my heart back out there?
This is a Standalone with a HEA. Due to mature content and themes, this book is recommended for readers aged 18+; this novel may contain triggers.
3 ⭐⭐⭐ - OK or decent reads ========================= I confess that I picked up the book because of the author and didn't pay attention to the plot. I simply don't read books about bullies; I don't like and I'm not attracted to this type of reading. I managed to read until the end and it was ok, despite the OTT scenes and cringe-worthy sex scenes.
My head starts to feel fuzzy as my orgasm hits me hard as I quickly pull out, cumming in the condom. Dark green eyes pop into my head at that moment, making my heart race.
Quote from the MMC. Overuse of the word rasp, same recycled drama of evil family member evil OW. The above is the MMC thoughts when fucking OW after meeting MFC. He sets out to make her life hell for getting hot coffee on him when he was the one who bumped into her.
Him and OW and other lackeys were horrible to her doing pranks on her. That is until the MMC realized he wanted her. It was the same plot she uses on most of her books. The MMC is a man whore the MFC is either a virgin or close to being one. I gave this one 2 instead of 1 because of the hockey bug she made a big mistake on the hockey front calling the college level trophy the Stanley cup when that is the NHL’s top price. There were multiple editing errors too.

So this was a big no for me. While I enjoy reading this author's OTT MC books this was a bit of a disaster. The MMCs and side characters both. The H should have been in middle school with the way he was acting. It was ridiculous. I don't think the h was that big of a doormat just didn't like confrontation. The intimate scenes were not the greatest. The ow's were OTT which I enjoy to be honest. Bitchy and mean, but the story in and of itself wasn't the greatest. Probably the worst of CM's books so far. Sorry for the harsh review
This one was so much fun to read. I loved their story. It really was a very different take on a mafia book and it was fucking amazing. I can't wait to read the next book.
Roman had one dream in life, it was to play professional hockey. Growing up he always knew he would need to take over his father's mafia empire. Lately though his father is trying to change the agreement they made and Roman is about ready to walk away from his family altogether. His focus changes though when a waitress spills coffee on him and doesn't cower when he lashes out.
Morgan has enough chaos in her life as it is, dealing with a spoiled man baby is nothing new. When he targets her after she gets an internship as a medical assistant for his hockey team, she toughens up. She doesn't realize Roman is falling hard for her and when he finally admits its she wonders if she can trust it, can she?
I really enjoyed this one. Morgan has a back story that pulls you in. I thought the whole premise of this book was amazing. Another great read by this author.
It was an okay story. Same downtrodden FMC as all the rest of this author’s FMC’s. Not anything really interesting in this book other than the usual grossness of the male characters in the bedroom department.
I do have to say as an American hockey novice that even I know the Stanley Cup is for professional NHL players and not for college hockey sports. While I couldn’t figure out what the college level trophy actually was when I googled it, I can still promise you it is NOT the Stanley Cup.
So while I enjoyed this book, it was typical of this author and had nothing unique about it that would have me remembering it or rereading it. I have read everything else by this author in the last three weeks, so now I’ll be in a book hangover until she comes out with more or if one of my favorite other authors comes out with a new book.
Lastly, the errors seemed less in this book but they are still there.
Either way, I will never read this book again. Good luck.
There were so many grammatical errors that it actually took away from the reading experience. The story itself was predictable, which is common with romance I feel but this one was forced. Mafia Don wants to arrange marriage for son, he rebels (because teenagers), falls in love with some girl who spills coffee on him, turns out she's from the life anyway and was trying to find her way back.
The h is too good to be true. Attending college on a scholarship, she works two jobs so that she can give money to her skanky older sister and her abusive mom who kidnapped her from her father 10 years ago. The H is a player who is in line to inherit the position of Don from his father after he pursues his dream of playing hockey professionally. The relationship begins when the H bumps into the h while she's carrying hot coffee while working in her aunt's dinner. The H has just had a very heated argument with his father who is trying to force an arranged marriage and he takes out his foul mood on the h. His team mates and their female hanger ons take up his promise of revenge, spilling drinks on her, vandalizing her truck, etc. The h gets under his skin and they fall for each other. He protects her from unwanted attention.
Not safe, he has sex with another woman after meeting the heroine, for weeks, even if he was attracted to her. And he was a hockey player and the son of a mob boss too. Why. But why. Oh he hated her for some weeks and bullied her and allowed all his team and the hoe he was screwing to bully her because they accidentally bumped into each other, she was waitressing and carrying a hot drink that spilled on them and he held a grudge against her because she “tried to burn him”? Jesus Christ are you for real? What a pussy is he? I was feeling second hand embarrassment, a hockey player and a future mob boss who apparently killed his first man at something like 10 years old is so so so angry with a little girlie girl because she burned his hand with a drink? I was cringing all the time. I don’t want to know how he could survive in that world, both hockey and mafia or whatever. Honest, he sounded more like a drama queen than a big bad guy. Maybe he had PMD that day?
It seems as if with the more recent books the author is toning down the soapy drama.
Grovel = H sees h and instantly thinks, oh I'm going to make her life miserable because she is breathing my air....until he realizes that his visceral reaction to the h is because he has been hit by Cupid's arrow and he actually has fallen hard for the h, but doesn't want to accept it. H bullies h and encourages others to do so as well. Once realization occurs, H instantly starts fawning over h; he falls first and hard. H through actions and words grovels to h. h was never a doormat and just kind of shrugs her shoulders and accepts the grovel.
OW drama = several skanky OW - h's mom, h's sister, H's FWB, hockey team puck bunny, etc. They all eventually get their comeuppance.
I’m at 60% but I just wanted to write some impressions. The writing is terrible, it screams Wattpad. Everything about the plot feels fake and ridiculous. The FMC keeps repeating the MMC “declared war on her”. Whole time the war is just ridiculously cliche high school pranks (they’re supposed to be in college). It makes no sense to try to push this enemies-to-lovers narrative on this. It’s ridiculous. But still, I want to keep reading to see where it’s going…
Update: DNF 65%. Yeah, I’m not reading this. These characters belong in middle school really. The whole “bullying” thing with Carmen is awful. The thing with the sister I could smell from a mile away, and I don’t want to keep reading. What a load of bullshit. I can’t with this artificially crafted pathetic drama anymore.
Ms. McGinlay has done it again another great book. Roman future head of the Italian mafia makes an enemy of Morgan a hard working woman just trying to get thru college to leave town and her family behind. As these two traverse thru college she becomes his obsession while she tries to avoid him and his entourage. Follow this story of how and downs to see if these will get a happy ending or will she become a casualty.
I prefer the MFC to be stronger, not saying Morgan isn’t strong. She is because of what she has survived, she should have put herself first knowing that she deserved it, there are ways to protect yourself without violence and if violence is needed then not lethal, I enjoy Charlottes books the MMC are often clueless and selfish, Roman is somewhat but mostly it’s his hot headedness that causes him to misstep. At least he recognizes how he messed up and corrected it.
Great plot with likeable characters. Though I thought the sexy times needed a bit more ...heat. Nonetheless, great read. Roman is to be the next Dom, but before that, he was allowed to continue playing hokey, his true passion. What he doesn't expect is to get obsessed with the shy girl that he bumped into. Highly recommended
This book was really really good. I just wish there was a series in this book and I like the connection between the characters and the way he actually stood by her even though um there was trying to that he must judge himself This author is amazing writer. I definitely definitely recommend her books
This book couldn’t have been better. Mafia & Hockey all in one book, yes please and thank you. Morgan is a little weepy being a Mafia wife but she does have a backbone. I fell in love with Roman right away. Up all night reading this book and I have to be up in an hour and a half 🤦🏼♀️ I just couldn’t put it down. ♥️ 🤷🏼♀️
I actually like this book more than I originally thought I would. Sometimes, I just need a book that's OTT and slightly messy to binge on. It's like comfort reading to me.
This was a mix of bully, hockey, Mafia, and spice. I loved the MC and how fast he fell for the FMC. I liked the back story and the found family.
This book was amazing. I love the story!! I been reading books where the fmc has taken away from the story. I couldn’t finish or just stop reading. But I loved this FMC. My heart broke for all she went thru. And the MMC loved!!!! He was hot and amazing. I wish I can give it more stars
I've read all her books and sofar this is my favorite. I enjoyed both the H a d h. It kept me invested and couldn't stop reading which can be hard for me with ADD 😂 good job Charlotte! I look forward to any other books you can entertain me with in the future!
I have read everything this author has written. I have enjoyed every single one. This book is no different. I really liked Morgan and how she found herself and her voice in this book
Nice book about mafia boy who wants to play hockey bumps into mfc and wants to make her life miserable than changes her mind. Meanwhile mfc is supporting sister and mom who are nasty.
I really liked the story, but the grammatical errors were so distracting. It wasn't just one or two. There were so many. I felt like I was reading a book that wasn't even proofread.
LOVED IT! the next mafia Don but he wants to play hockey first, fall in love at first sight! she is the long lost daughter of his father second in command.
This was a highly entertaining read with bully action, angst, drama, and much more. Did it have some inconsistencies and imperfections? Yes. Did it affect my reading experience? Nope.
