In the frozen heart of Cedar Rapids, hockey hotshot August Kade collides with more than just his on-ice rivals when a fender bender sparks unexpected fire with Rowan Armistead - the whip-smart ex of his fiercest competitor.
As Christmas lights twinkle and tensions rise, the polar opposites find themselves skating on thinning ice.
Can the jock and the introspective beauty conquer their societal divides and the ghosts of relationships past? Or will their smoldering romance shatter under the weight of old wounds before the last hockey-day puck drops?
"Home for the Hockey-Days" is a sizzling novella about the improbable across-the-tracks romance that proves sometimes the greatest gifts come wrapped in unlikely packages.
Lasairiona McMaster writes sassy, classy and badassy women and strong, yet vulnerable men.
She challenges reader’s expectations by openly dealing with mental health issues, often exploring tough-to-handle topics and ‘taboos’ and books with a whole lotta heart.
She can either be found enjoying a gin and lemonade by the Irish sea, or baking sweet treats in her kitchen while singing at the top of her lungs.
When she’s ‘home’ in Texas, and isn’t eating fresh-popped popcorn while buying things she has absolutely no need for in Target, she can be found at Chuys eating her body weight in chips and queso and washing it down with a margarita swirl.
Crash into me.... literally! Oh my word! I think I'm in love... I'm in love love love and I don't care who knows it! August you little rascal you! Mr. Steal yo girl in all the right ways! You see all those play on words! Lasairiona you did it again!
Now for all of you who have read the cedar rapid raccoons hockey series you won't be disappointed in this prequel to the series! I thought maybe we'd go ok ok yep... this leads to this but NO! It's perfection! You can actually read it whenever!
Thank you for allowing me to yet again read your amazing work!
And yes, read this series and my brothers teammate too! You won't be disappointed! If you like the other side, check out her pen name or real name lol, books too! 🔥🔥🥵
Rowan and August’s story is utterly charming, bringing humor, chemistry, and heartfelt moments right from their not-so-great start. Their “meet cute” is unforgettable, with Rowan literally running into August—and a pie or two landing in the mix! As they get to know each other, Rowan’s unapologetically blunt personality breaks through August’s tough exterior, helping him confront his own walls and insecurities. Their connection is electric, filled with witty banter, undeniable attraction, and moments of self-discovery. With the added spice, the hilarious and beloved De La Peña siblings, and a foundation of friendship, this novella perfectly captures the joy and intensity of Rowan and August’s unforgettable romance.
A novella in the Cedar Rapids Raccoons series and best of all it’s set at the beginning so you can pick it up whether you’ve read the series or not. My advice is read the series. It’s fantastic.
Anyway back to this book. August is our MMC and this man has a chip on his shoulder a mile wide. Rowan accidentally crashes into his car and coincidentally has also been lined up to tutor August so he doesn’t lose his spot on the hockey team. There’s a wee bit of instalust between these two and August has a filthy mouth. Best of all so does Rowan. She is down to get dirty. The spice was chefs kiss. Throw in a nemesis ex and we have a banging good time.
If you want a smutty holiday novella pick this up. You won’t regret it.
Thank you to the author for the arc and this is my honest review.
Please excuse me while I swoon over August and Rowen. If you love hockey, holiday reads, and swoon worthy men with amazing female main characters, then this needs to move to the top of your TBR list. August is your favorite holiday grump! I think he is a giant grizzly bear with a soft squishy underbelly who only shows that side to Rowen. The way he lets her in *cue heart eyes*. Rowen is doing everything she can and oh my gosh her story arc in this book was fabulous. As I'm typing this, I want a reread. It will get you in the holiday spirit and have you rooting for all your favorite cedar rapid raccoons!
Rowan and August story is absolutely adorable. They don’t have the best start to begin with. Then add in getting pies in the face and more let’s just say you’re in for good laugh. Once these get know one another all the good, the bad and ugly they hit it off. The chemistry is off the charts. These story had it all the spice, those amazingly De La Peña siblings, and overall friendship. I truly enjoyed this story so much and August and Rowan are absolutely fantastic.
“That girl is fire, and I am the moth, ready to burn.” Home for the Hockey Days was such a fun holiday romance for a Cedar Rapids Raccoon! August is the captain of the Cedar Rapids Raccoons and needs a tutor in order to stay on the ice. Rowan is a math wiz and ready to help August, especially after the way they met!
The two were a great pair and I’m happy they had this spicy story! Thank you @queenoffirelas for the ARC! Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🔥: “Eyes. On. Me.”
Great novella.. I love the Cedar Rapids Raccoons series, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading August and Rowan's story. Needing some extra help understanding maths, Roman agrees to tutor August after accidentally bumping into his car!! Wonderful storyline with great characters and absolutely loved the HEA.
August meets Rowan when she wrecks into his rust bucket vehicle. August is the captain of the Cedar Rapids Raccoons college hockey team. He's barely scraping by and on scholarship, just trying to get into the nfl to turn it all around. His grades are not up to snuff, and he needs a tutor. He didn't know the tutor that was hired was Rowan until they started chatting about repairs. These two don't hit it off right away until a party is thrown by Ares, and Artemis kicks off at the local hotel. There's a hilarious motorboating scene between Rowan and August, which I died laughing at inappropriateness, but spontaneous revenge after she wipes whipped cream on his face.
This was a quick, spicy Christmas novella right on par with Lasiriona's witty curvaceous heroines who bring their men to their knees. August is a big softie underneath his aloof nature. He was first put off by the "rich" wealthy players and Rowan, but those judgments are shattered once he gets to know everyone, including Rowan. The scenes were steamy, and the story was a great meet cute between the two.
Christmas hockey spice Rowan and August meet with a literal bang not the best way to start a romance but it definitely had sparks flying. This is a fast, fun and steamy Christmas novella with the Cedar Rapid Raccoons Captain as the MMC. With some action, drama, banter, sweetness and lots of spice it’s a great little entree for the holiday season.
Trigger Warnings include: car accident, verbal disrespect/harassment towards and about the FMC (not from the MMC), on-ice fighting
Does it get any better than more time with the Raccoons?! As always, I enjoyed every moment with these characters! Their team captain is told to figure math out, or get off the team. All August has, all he knows, is hockey and his team. So he knows he has to do what he needs to stay on the team. Which means being tutored by Rowan. That man instantly folded, addicted at first glance. Then there’s glaring and whipped cream and raspberries. Then the tension really explodes! Rowan and August definitely fit right in with the rest of the team/characters. I’m definitely glad I got to spend time with them!
My Favorite Quotes: • “You’re no one’s sloppy anything. Do you hear me?” • “I need to touch you.” • “Consent is sexy. And important.” • “Come for me. So I can f!ck you till you scream.” • “Oh. I’m definitely going to fuck you. I’m going to make you forget he ever existed.” • “How do you want me to f!ck you?” “Like you hate me.” • “I’ve never seen anyone look so breathtaking in all my life.”
I am completely in love with August and Rowan! Ugh, I just want to crawl into this book and give them big squishes.
Ok, I know I may be a little biased because I'm absolutely obsessed with everything Lasairiona writes, but this story made my heart so damn happy. I'm a sucker for Christmas, so the fact that this book takes place at that time, giant plus for me. And having read the rest of this series, getting to see all of the familiar characters just made me feel so happy and content, like I was crawling under my favorite fuzzy blanket with a cup of my favorite tea on a cold winters day. Sounds pretty perfect to me.
As always, I got what I was hoping for and SO much more with these characters. The dynamic and chemistry between these 2 characters was off the charts. August is grumpy and doesn't let people in easily. Rowan is confident and sassy, and she knows what she wants and goes for it. They may have come from different "classes," but they have more in common than they first thought.
Once again, 5 ✨️'s just doesn't seem enough. I devoured this novella like a piece of my favorite cheesecake, and I had no guilt after finishing. 😆 Lasairiona did a phenomenal job whisking me off into the wonderful world of the Cedar Rapids Raccoons, and I was sad when it was time to leave. I can't wait to see where she takes us next. Ugh, I'm addicted and it's all your fault, Lasairiona!
Received an ARC to this Cedar Rapids prequel and it was so fun! August needs a tutor and when his team provides him with one, he’s a little apprehensive. Then someone crashes into the back of his car. When August realizes it’s the same woman, he’s intrigued until she turns out to be the girlfriend of his mortal enemy.
Reasons I Recommend:
1) Fun, quirky, and steamy, everything you’d expect from McMaster
2) The wrong room, Snickerdoodle, and Aunt Maggie and
3) Consent is sexy, cream pie in the face, and not being afraid to accept help.
August is flunking several of his college classes and if he doesn't pick up his grades he can't play hockey or graduate. So the coach tells him to get a tutor, money is very tight but what choice does he have? His teammates find him a tutor and he sends her a message but doesn't hear from her.
Rowan is smart. It looks like she comes from a well to do family but no one sees what's behind the doors. She has decided to forgo tutoring for a bit until she runs into the back of a car and it ends up being totaled and she finds out she doesn't have insurance.
When August gets rear ended and his car totaled he realizes the driver's number is the same as the tutor. These two have a lot to overcome but find something in each other.
There are few people in the world that I’ve met and thought, “I want you to bend me over the nearest piece of furniture and f**k me senseless.” To date, August Kade might be the first and only.
If you’re looking for a quick and spicy holiday romance, Home for the Hockey-Days is a must-read! Sparks fly when Rowan and August’s lives collide. He’s the quiet, hulking hockey player and she’s the curvy, nerdy, and sweet girlfriend of his rival. This athlete and tutor, fake dating, new adult romance will sweep you off your feet and melt your kindle. I love the Cedar Rapids Raccoons, the De La Peña siblings, and Lasairiona’s fun storytelling. This is the perfect swoony sports novella to heat up your holidays!
ar Review Home For The Hockey-Days by Lasairiona E McMaster
Tis the season. I love books centred around the holidays. Add in that this book contains hockey players and it - win/win for me.
Home For The Hockey Days is a prequel to the Cedar Rapids Racoons Series. This is captain August Cade and Rowan Armistead’s story and if it’s anything to go by then I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
Although a novella, Ms. McMaster packs a lot into it and I found myself hooked. From the moment they met the sparks flew.
Will the magic of the holiday season help them find a lasting love and happiness?
Home for the Hockey-Days was a cute, fun, steamy holiday read. Rowan and August meet through a fender bender and before either realizes it, they were connected before it even happened. These two knock heads and some stubbornness has them fighting what they feel, especially when Rowan is August’s rival’s ex. However, they keep ending up together and the chemistry is off the charts between them. The more time they spend together the harder it becomes to stop, but will their past and family life stop them from giving it a shot or will it ruin it before I really started? Read and find out what happens between these two. Plus don’t miss out on the hilarious banter and teammates of August.
This is a quick read. Very sweet and made me laugh out loud. Due to it being a novella I appreciated that there was no miscommunication and everything was laid out and discussed at the time it arose.
The found family vibes this gives makes my heart happy. It’s a great Christmas time story. I enjoyed getting to know August and Rowan and their background. Seeing the younger versions of the De La Peña siblings was fun too.
All in all I really enjoyed diving into this sweet romance and the outcome of the story warmed my heart.
I received an ARC for free. I am voluntarily leaving this review.
What a festive fun prequel novella 'Home for the Hockey-Days Lasairiona has written.
Set in the Cedar Rapid Racoons hockey world we meet August their captain. He is a troubled guy, who feels inferior and has a hard time fitting in. He carries resentment and when his grades slip, and his hockey career is threatened... Enter Rowan, who literally crashes into his life, and turns his world and misconceptions around.
These two were super sweet together plus it was brilliant meeting the Raccoons before they were famous.
Loved this little Novella that featured some of our favorite Raccoons. This is starting us from the beginning with Rowan and August, the OGs of the couples. I love their meet cute where Rowan literally runs into August, I just feel bad for Rusty. Rowan is a speak from the heart and sorry not sorry if your feelings get hurt kind of girl. August has a bunch of chips on his shoulders that’s it seems only Rowan can break through. She makes him wise up quick, and he figures out he better wise up and not lose her.
August is perfectly grumpy and commanding, meeting his match in the sunny Rowan. The way the characters grow and entangle into each other's lives is one of the author's many talents. Especially with the side characters. Once you start it, you won't want to put it down, the pages will just call you right back! Las is one of those authors with the whole package: great stories, awesome and believable characters.
I enjoyed this holiday novella for so many reasons. The author is masterful with deep internal reflection, insecurities, and mitigating the fallout from those feelings. She is brilliant with how she manages the value and support of friendship on these journeys. The highlight of this book is that everyone has issues and how the power of love makes those issues a non-entity. Everyone is worthy and what a positive message.
What a novella the only problem was that it wasn’t longer! I could have read about August and Rowan a lot longer🥹 All the meet cutes and moments in this novella made me both swoon and laugh! They really were perfect for each other and I always love to read about all the characters in the Cedar Rapids universe🥰
Overall a amazing novella with a one of a kind storyline and a bit of spiiicy moments as well😌
Rowan and August’s worlds literally collide!!! August is the they Raccoons’ captain. Rowan is the smart tutor girl. They have sparks flying from the beginning. But there’s a lot of drama involved. He tries his hardest to stay away. She is bold and goes after what she wants. One thing leads to another… steamy!!! It is algo nice to see that the de la Peñas siblings have always been helpful and mindful towards their friends.
Lasairiona does it again. In this Cedar Rapids prequel novella, you get a little bit of your Christmas naughty with your nice. I loved August’s vulnerability, but I really love Rowan’s badassery. They both have things in their lives they don’t want to share, but it ends up bringing them together and the chemistry is explosive. I always love how all of these books bring in the other characters that tie the family together. Looking forward to what comes next!
ARC Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶🌶 Home For the Hocky-Days by Lasairiona McMaster
This is a super quick holiday novella packed full of spice and banter. I love the chemistry between Rowan and August and how quickly it became between them.
So if you're looking to add to your reading goal before the end of the year this one's for you!
Plus it's a novella set at the beginning of a whole series to fall in love with 🥰
What a good story. I really enjoyed Rowan and August's story. It was like the universe just kept putting them together and the pull they had was too strong to resist. Could an ex-boyfriend and insecurities on both sides doom their relationship? It's a great read to find out the answer. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book for my honest review.
This story takes place before Freezing the Puck. August and Rowan's story was sweet. When August has seen Rowan around before he contacts her for help in tutoring. This book is fast-paced and makes you remember not to judge things. It's a cute Christmas story and brings us more of our favorite Raccoons.
This was an easy and engaging read that fits into the Cedar Rapids Racoons world but before the main series we know and love. Its fun to read about the boys in their early days before their stories take place so you don't have to read it first. It can fit in whenever. I liked Gus and Rowan as a couple and enjoyed their story. The perfect quick and easy read.
Home for the Hockey-Days by Lasairiona McMaster Overall Score ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Heat Level 🔥🔥🔥
I just ADORE Lasairiona's writing. Every time I read one of her novellas all I can think is I need more! Rumor has it that she is turning this into a full-length novel in the near future and I cannot wait for it. This story shows how Rowan and August meet and how their relationship begins. I cannot wait for Lasairiona to write the rest of their story.
