The aliens who took me from Earth thought I was small and puny... how wrong they were!
Instead, they ended up with a banshee of a human who had no intention of staying abducted. So now this alien maze has its first freedom fighter. I can put my unusual talents involving weaponry to good use, causing as much havoc as I can until I find an escape.
Until the day I stumble across his cell.
Drega is feral. Raging. Desperate for escape. And when he sets his eyes on me, this handsome as hell dragon shifter wants only one more thing.
Me.
Against all my red flags, I help him get free and make a run for it. Because if there's one thing you can't do when you're on an alien planet, being hunted by aliens, it's lose your heart.
Turns out I'm running from the wrong aliens...
Drega will stop at nothing to get what he wants, including me.
And I'm not sure I can stop his conquest, even if I wanted to.
DREGA is the third in the Fated Mates of the Sarkarnii series and features not-so-friendly friends to lovers, forced proximity, only one cave and one talented double tongue. A dragon shifter who is adamant he cannot fall in love has just discovered fate has other plans, but can he convince his chosen mate?
You'll be reading 'til the early hours with all spice, all the steam and all the heat as you always expect from USA TODAY Bestselling author of steamy sci-fi romance Hattie Jacks.
This was a fun and dark read with a fiercely independent FMC and the king of denial, Drega. Ruby was compassionate but very quick to anger, which wasn’t surprising given her estrangement with his father. Their meet disaster was a semi rescue operation, with Ruby doing the rescuing. Drega was very touch averse as a result of torture and medical experimentation, which added a layer of complexity to their relationship. Neither were great communicators, but they stumbled their way through to that HEA.
Spice: 3/5
Triggers: torture, drugging, involuntary medical experimentation, captivity, abduction, mentions of genocide, mention of family estrangement, violence, gore, severe injury, PTSD symptoms in side character, threat of SA (not fault of MC), pregnancy of side characters, explosion
I for one am a total sucker for Hattie Jacks works. I was soooo excited to see this series got a box set and preordered it with the quickness ✅
Okay, hear me out, I know the book is named after the MMC but Ruby stole the show. Ruby was the FMC in this book and the character was my favorite so far in this series. I felt like the prison planet is a really interesting concept and I enjoy the bigger picture of why they’re there. Like all of Hattie Jacks books this one got spicy quick! No slow burn needed! 4/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ this one was less adventurous/spicy than the other so far in my opinion.
M/F Interconnected standalones Alien x Human 👽 Fated Mates ❤️🔥 Aphrodisiac male er ..💦 Cervical “hook” 🪝 for breeding A whole lotta MINE Did I mention forked tongues 🐍
I absolutely love these Sarkarnii boys. Drega swore he would never mate, then he meets headstrong Ruby. That plan gets thrown out the window! Fun adventure with spice.
the writing was so so bad. everything felt disjointed and rushed. i understand that it’s not the first book in the series but a little backstory (done tastefully) would have been appreciated since it’s about different main characters.
3.5 - 4 stars Imagine waking up in your own personal hell. Not knowing where you are or how you got there. Fighting to survive. This sci fi romance has lots of action monsters and fated mates. But it is all they can do to survive in a prison full of terror. The story is not overly long but it is entertaining enough to escape for a few hours.
I wish I could be more positive about this book but I just couldn’t connect to the characters. The first book in the series was ok because it was new but the rest of the stories seem to be carbon copies with name changes and minor changes in the alien’s abilities.
I’m quite sick of the FC giving up the goodies in the first few chapters. There is no development of their romantic relationship. And how is it that none of the females have any qualms about getting pregnant with an alien they just met while they are still in prison?!! And they aren’t actively planning to escape!!
This will probably be the last book I read in this series.
🔥 “You are my stars and moons. You are my freedom, my wings, my shift. You are my galaxy of sparkling light, heartsfire.” ~~~ Drega is the high healer of the Sarkarnii Bask, leader of the Scaled Battalion and lord of the Sky Sea, youngest brother of Draco and Draxx. He’s fearsome, dangerous, growly, secretive and always in control. And he’s also incredibly irresistible, charming, fun, loyal, honorable and fiercely protective. Even more, he’s such a flirt and I absolutely loved his dominance and possessiveness! The one thing Drega doesn’t do is rut and doesn’t want to be touched. But… fate has special plans for him. Drega is a seven feet plus blue-scaled deliciousness and I couldn’t help but adore every single thing about him!
And Ruby is an absolute badass! She’s brave, resourceful, strong and resilient. Even more, this security specialist knows how to take care of herself. And I loved her fierceness and that she never hesitated to stand her ground and to face and deal with any hardships thrown her way. That woman is as fiery as her hair! But, Ruby also believes that being on her own is the best way there is and doesn’t open up easily to others. Nevertheless, she’s absolutely awesome and I loved her so, so much!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Drega and Ruby! They meet in less than perfect circumstances - both being taken by the Belek. And, yet, both couldn’t be contained for long. I adored those two! Not only were they a badass and unstoppable team, but their banters and teasings were so much fun to read! Even more, their chemistry was off-the-charts right from the start even though both were trying to fight the undeniable attraction. And everything depended on them working together. So, the more time they spent together, the more they couldn’t resist the need for one another. And the spice!!! Holy. Smoking. Hotness! Those Sarkarnii warriors definitely know how to please a woman. And Drega comes with quite the adornments! I just couldn’t get enough of all the passionate moments they shared! Moreover, I loved how both learned to open up to each other and share their deepest secrets and were so understanding and supportive of one another. Ruby and Drega were so perfect for each other and more than deserved to find happiness and love together!
In addition, the storyline was phenomenal! So much is happening in this story! More is revealed about the Belek and what they’re doing on Kirakos. And Kirakos is as dangerous as ever with all the creatures lurking in the shadows. And will the Sarkarnii finally be able to use the starmap? Even more, I loved Draco and Draxx being such big brothers and constantly teasing (and also supporting) Drega. Even more, I really, really want to read Daeos’ story. With everything happening, I was glued to the pages till the very end.
Overall, the story is another incredible addition to the series! It’s filled with non-stop action, danger, suspense, humor, twists, adventure, blazing hot passion and remarkable characters.
I couldn’t put it down and absolutely loved every page of it!
3.5 Drega and Ruby were an interesting match. The beginning of the story was a full-scale launch. However, there were a lot of themes and tensions in the story that just evaporated into thin air as it went on. A lot of the original conflict points were never concluded. One major disappointment for me was the experimentation Drago went through that changed his physiology. It was such an important point in the beginning of the novel because that was the entire reason why he avoided the touch of others. There were even several moments in the book when he said he came to hate hands touching him. But as the story went on it was just magically resolved without any clarification as to what happened or how it was. He just woke up one day and suddenly he was okay and that really Jarred me because suddenly his inner turmoil was gone too and there was just no working through that issue. As Ruby, her daddy issues were to the extreme and just like draga suddenly from one page to another poof. She's all better and he loves her and no more daddy issues. It makes it feel like all the points of inner conflict were meaningless. This was some of the largest attraction from this story because a lot of their intimacy was attempted to be built on this issue and when these issues just suddenly evaporated. So did the building of chemistry and connection that was happening. They flip the switch and then they were in love. I still thought the story was interesting enough for Reed, but I felt like the character development could have been way better.
This book has to be the biggest let down so far. It started off with real promise. We have an ex-military Female named Ruby. She uses her quick wit to save Drega from the lab. That's all the good parts. Seriously... that's it. Immediately after getting away from the lab she jumps him. Like, the she just shut the door on the bad guys and they're on the other side and she's like "this looks like a great place to stop and f*k". This happens often with these two. She just throws herself at him left and right. I've never been so let down so quickly. Then there's Drega. Apparently he was tortured at the lab and can't touch people. Yet he can? There's no real description of what happened, what his powers do, or why. It's just briefly mentioned here and there but has absolutely no bearing on the plot at all. No cure. No nothing. Just "I can't touch people"... "oh look, I'm touching EVERYONE with no problems." I'm going to be honest here, I think someone else is coming up with these characters and describing them to Hattie Jacks. She has these creative ideas and these different types of people, but then she writes the story so they all have the exact same personalities. I can't tell Drega from Draxx or Draco. They all act and speak the same way.
"Sometimes there is a jewel worth going to prison for."
Ruby is on the run from the aliens who captured her. She stumbled upon Drega, the Sarkarnii, and she helped him escaped. Together, they need to figure a plan to bring down the bad guy.
I'm gonna say this right off the bat that this is not a standalone book. My mistake thinking that it's an interconnected standalone, so I was pretty much confused as to what's happening, and what entails the whole plot.
Anyway ~
I had fun though, it's such a fast-paced book and even though I did not know what's going on half of the book, I love the characters. They are both infuriating yet strong in their own ways. This book got two adult characters that communicates everythingggg except their feelings towards one another which is understandable based on their history.
I wished we got more build up in the romance aspect considering both of them were really closed off and just in denial and doesn't want to do anything with romance but maybe around halfway (?) they suddenly both went completely 360. Maybe because of the "rut" which kinda like a mating? Idk. Don't ask me.
Maybe I do need to read the first book in this series before jumping right in the third book but who knows if I get to that point.
Denial is a funny thing when it comes to love and no matter how hard at the beginning Drega tried to deny that he was getting mesmerized by Ruby, he caved pretty fast and accepted his new mate and it was so sweet. I believe even his Ruby mentioned how the “mighty has fallen”. One of the things I really liked about this book is obviously that it has one of my favorite mini tropes and that is the male virgin. *sigh* It doesn’t take long for Drega to figure it all out even though for some strange reason he thinks that Ruby will envenomate him. It made me laugh every time he thought it. I enjoyed that Ruby was a very strong woman who figured out how to rescue herself and continued to be a force throughout the entire book. I think she had to let go and accept that she was never going to go back to Earth and really accept what her and Drega had for each other. She definitely keeps giving Drega a run for his money with her want to fight for freedom and for the freedom of everyone in their group. I think he likes her fierce though. 🥰 I definitely enjoyed this book and I enjoy the entire series. I look forward to more.
This is a sexy, alien romance, with a dragon shifting alien hero, and a human heroine. It continues on from the story begun in Draco and continued in Draxx, and sets up the next story- so although the romance is standalone, the setting and background story are ongoing.
Drega is a captive of the evil Belek, until the human female Ruby frees him. Together they must find a way to end the tyrannical control of the Belek, so the inhabitants of the moon can live there safely.
A fun romance, this finally introduces us to the capable Ruby, who we’ve heard of but not yet met properly. She’s feisty, fierce, and very independent: something most of the Sarkarnii are quite used to in their females. Drega has had a tough time under the auspices of the Belek scientists, and even as he immediately recognizes Ruby as his mate, he struggles with the idea. They’re a fun couple to follow along with, in this enjoyable read. There are some interesting and important events that happen in this book too, which might just prove to be important for the human-Sarkarnii team.
Sarkarnii mates continues with Drega urge healer and warrior. In the last book he was taken and experimented on by the slug like aliens. Tortured and changed he no longer feels like he is apart of the brothers. while being beaten and drugged he meets Ruby a human female who has military trading and was in security before she was abducted from earth. She got herself out but she's been wandering around looking for the other human women so they can try and escape. What she comes across is a big blue male who she can't help but admire but doesn't want to because she feels there could never be anything lasting. But fate will not be denied their souls call to one another. Ruby has been hurt in the past and Drega doesn't believe he needs nor wants a mate. You need to read his wrong both are and its the passion and love that develops between then that will save them! Give it a read if you like this authors precious books you'll enjoy this one too. 🌟🔥💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟💖🌟🔥💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟💖
The cliffhanger of what happened to Drega and Ruby is finally revealed! After a lot of torture and experimentation by the Belek, Drega is rescued by Ruby, who escaped captivity and was creating havoc for the Belek and their minions. Ruby immediately sends Drega into rut, and the fun begins! These two are feisty and stronger together than alone. Their attraction and connection is off-the-charts spicy!! Drega is another cinnamon roll in a hard shell, and he tries to resist the draw of his heartsfire, but in the end, fate wins. Daeos makes a bunch of appearances and is a heartbreaker. Drasus also gets a moment to shine. I can’t wait for their books! This book is critical in the overarching storyline. It is going to be interesting to see where Hattie takes the Sarkarnii next. I love this book and this series! It is wonderfully creative with great characters and world-building. I’d give it more than five stars if I could!
This story was very exciting where we meet Ruby who is a human female who has been captured and trying to get out of the Kirakos, this is where she meets Drega who is the third brother and a Sarkarnii healer as well as a warrior he has been held captive by the warden of the Kirakos prison planet. Together these two drive each other crazy but Drega goes into rut when he meets Ruby which is just what the warden wants. Drega and Ruby are the key to the Kirakos as they are fated mates, and they are between them the only ones able to destroy the planet, but they get rid of the prison guards and the other creatures that are set upon them. They are free to leave the planet, but Daeos does something to the spaceship and they are grounded again, he is acting weirdly and has to be restrained. This is where the story ends ready for the next book.
I was given an advanced copy of this book to read and I am reviewing with my honest and fair opinion.
This book is confusing to say the least. It's a good story line and interesting characters, but I'm constantly getting caught up in trying to understand what is actually happening. The writing will jump from stabbing a bad guy in the wrist to shoving someone out the door and confused on if the bad guy was killed or just politely moved out of the way. I also had trouble understanding the development between the main characters. She's going to use him as leverage, but her feelings are hurt when he says he doesn't want to make her...a lot of back and forth like that throughout the entire book. And the development and resolution of their feelings didn't feel well done. So much so that I mostly felt confused through the entire book one way other another. So after reading the first two books and taking a break, and trying once more to pick up this series with this book. I can confidently say I won't be finishing it.
I love the youngest dragon brother. He "plays" two roles . Healer and warrior. I love the way the two met. Both think well on the run. Just when you think it's safe, something else happens to one of the other. Love the banter between them. Finally a female who can be just as brave, strong and skilled with weapons as any male. Ruby's background provides her the unique advantage to help take down the "enemy". I loved how they worked together and how Drega recognizes his better half. Edge of your seat action throughout. Steam to the eventual romance. So well written that I could not only see but feel what the two went through. Well done with the perfect HEA. I can not wait to see who will find their fated mate next. I received a free copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Drega is book 3 in the Fated Mates of the Sarkarnii series.
These are highly entertaining alien sci-fi romance stories and if you want the full experience about this universe start with Hattie’s Rogue Alien Warriors series, yum, then move on to the Elite Rogue Alien Warriors series, more yum, (this is also where we first meet our Sarkarnii heroes) then move on to the Fated Mates of the Sarkarnii these are all wonderful, adventurous and spicy books that make for an exciting binge read!
Big, beautiful blue Drega has so many secrets and a unique and unwanted ability he struggles with and he does not rut! So he says!
Ruby is savvy, strong and has been hiding and causing destruction in her wake as she evades the prison wardens then accidentally runs across Drega. Defiant to her core she won’t give up trying to rescue the other humans and doesn’t want to admit she is totally lost for Drega!
There is still a lot of drama involving the prison wardens, much more fated mate madness and we get to know many more of the Sarkarnii warrior brothers! I will be diving into the next book Daeos without delay!
Drega the Sarkarnii dragon shifter is both warrior and healer. When ace human operative Ruby stumbles onto him, he's a captive under torture, in the hands of the corrupt warden on the prison moon of Kirakos. Despite his drug-induced psychosis, his rut is triggered. She's strangely attracted, and this high tension drama of escape, action, capture -wash, rinse, repeat - goes into overdrive. This is the background against which their insanely hot love story plays out. HEA for Ruby and her Big Blue is great, but for all the Sarkarnii and the humans with them, Kirakos still holds them until they find a few more clues to make their ultimate escape. (Lucky for us readers, there'll be more of the Fated Mates of the Sarkarnii.)🔥😍
Ruby is a lot of things: self reliant, brave, resourceful, and well trained in fighting. The only thing she isn’t, is the one that matters most to her father: male. And the thing she regrets the most was not being able to say goodbye to her him. Drega is all about being a soldier: loyal, daring, protective and a fighter. The one thing he’ll never admit it to losing self control over a female. They are antagonists when they first meet, each strongly in denial about their attraction. The more they are together, the harder it is to keep up this pretence. There is no way out unless they work together. And danger is always right around the corner.
Such a captivating read with amazing characters. Ruby is definitely a ball buster in every sense of the word. Her ability to traverse the maze prison is awe inspiring. Her survival instinct second nature. Thanks to the one male she thought she could always count on.
Drega is the youngest of the Sarkarnii brothers and the most complex. He is happy to see his brother mated but refuses to put himself in that category. He does not/ will not rut for anyone. This blue shimmering translucent magnificent specimen of a male is about to find out the hard way how susceptible and vulnerable he really is.
This is another brilliant example of Hattie's amazing writing skills. The mystery and intricate weaving of this prison maze is intoxicating. A new epic journey awaits!
loved it !! love this series !! love Drega and Ruby.. this is their story... a fast paced action packed drama... trapped in the maze ,on the prison planet Kirakos... Drega is captured and tortured for months... Ruby has been abducted and experimented on but, has escaped into the tunnels.. she is a key... she finds Drega in a large cavern space, drugged out of his mind and chained.. will she help him or flee ? she must save the other humans and destroy this planet ... Drega does not rut.. will not rut.. well... so good !!!
“You are my stars and moons. You are my free-dom, my wings, my shift. You are my galaxy of sparkling light, heartsfire."
Poor sweet Drega. He never wanted a mate and thought his brothers fools for falling for other females but then he goes and falls for Ruby who is a strong, warrior type woman who doesn’t need a man!
Their passion for each other is huge and the spice in this is 🙌 perfection. I absolutely adore this book as Drega is just a soft squishmallow of a man to his woman which is my favorite. This series is so wonderful and you are missing out if you do not read it!
The "Tech" dragon or healer, but he felt more tech and book smart than the others, which isn't to say anyone is diminished because of that. I fell in love with Drega's charm and found he was more vocal and verbal than the others, quick to pick up on what was going on with his Sarkarnii nature even though he fought it. I was fortunate enough to read all three-books back to back so their world was very clear to me and Drega's sweet lines and the woman he was paired with was also a fav of mine too.
We have grown to know Drega in the last 2 Sarkarnii books & I was so excited to see that he now has his own! He is growly, controlling & absolutely does not rut (well according to him anyway). When Ruby comes into his life it is thrown upside down. She is a strong fmc filled with fire & a woman that knows how to defend herself. Their chemistry is top notch from the getgo & their story is my favorite so far in the series
Gave this book 4.5 out if 5 stars. Rounded up. It has been a rough couple months and havnt found a book to keep my interest but everytime a new book in this series is released, I read it so fast and anxiously wait for the next. This got me out of my reading funk however took a half star off for a few grammar issues. Look forward to the next and recommend reading in order as the books connect.
I really enjoyed the first two. However the third book is just a repeat of the first two now. There is not much difference. They all go in a rut. They all deny they are in a rut. The female gets captured and then the guy saves. I thought this one would be different since the female saved him to begin with. And I thought the one Belek died at the end of book two. Or that’s the way the author made it seem. But of course he’s still alive and being a villain.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Big scale-y growling possessive dragon puppies is how I would describe the Sarkarnii.
Drega is exactly that but with more control issues than the usual Sarkarnii. Having a mate he had a hard time controlling? That was a fun story to read!
I also love the continuations of jokes in the series, for example: pants or the lack of pants.
