In 'bones and teef' Bertie Baggins asks Sally Shaw why on Earth she drinks cows' milk. This bright and colourful short rhyming story is not only fun, but also educational as it illustrates how easy it is to find calcium in plant foods. In addition, at the end of the e-book, there is nutritional information about calcium balance in a healthy vegan diet with reference to 'Plant Based Nutrition and Health' by Stephen Walsh PhD.
[This rhyming story is no longer available as a Kindle book but the story is included in the paperback 'Why are you a vegan? and other wacky verse for kids' by Violet's Vegan Comics]
"You must drink cow's milk to be healthy." I believed that as a child, most of us did. We were taught it in school--if you want strong teeth and bones, drink your milk. This simple book, geared toward the preschool-K age group, challenges the old story and talks about all of the wonderful plant-based foods that provide calcium and keep us healthy.
The dairy industry markets to young kids and their parents relentlessly, so it's always good to have materials like this that give the other side of the story.
Another 5 stars from me - surprise, surprise - but PETA backs me up on this one which was one of their top books recommended for kids who love animals. Plus it's educational. But of course you shouldn't take my word for it, pop over to the website and read it for free: http://violetsvegnecomics.com/story-f...
