"When the past hurts, it bites. "

"Takhini Wolves, Book 4"

Meet Evan Stone. Laid-back, in-control Alpha of the Takhini Wolves. Life s not perfect, but he s got a good handle on his world. At least, he did until the night he ends up in jail, soaking wet and wondering what the hell just happened.

The what is Amy Ryba, a vengeful female who s decided it s long past time to make Evan pay for his sins. Amy has spent years tracking him down, and the last nine months working in secret to destroy him. She s ready for anything except discovering the shifter she hates is her mate.

Suddenly, Evan s not so very in control, of himself or his pack. And unless Amy can learn to forgive and forget, she ll have to do the reject her mate.

With two packs watching, one thing is certain. Their personal issues won t stay personal for long. If Amy and Evan can t find a way to work together, there won t be a happily-ever-after for them or any of the wolves of Whitehorse.

Contains angsty wolves. Lots of angsty wolves causing explosions of all sorts, playing bad pranks, hacking computers, and having angry sex against a wall or two. Not all at the same time, though, because that would be silly. "

Bit disappointed really. Amy was not very likeable if you ask me and so much of the conflict was her instigation and she didn't have a good reason at all.

Sep 4th '14... I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!! This is the first time, out of all the books from VA that I've read that I can't continue to read it. I've already started it and stopped twice and I'm not even to the middle of the book yet. I just CAN'T STAND AMY!!! Evan deserves someone so much better, if he really couldn't have Caroline, then he deserved someone as good if not better than her. Not some know-it-all who-doesn't-really-know-anything that matters bent on a revenge that didn't even need avenging in the first place. The worst part of all so far? Even though she says to Evan that she's sorry for putting her revenge plan into action, I know that deep down she isn't really sorry at all. And the way Evan keeps bending backwards hoping to appease her so she won't reject him, even after finding out all she's done wrong against him is just plain wrong. I can't continue to read this right now, I just can't. I'll have to put this book on hold until I almost forget what's happened so far and start from where I left off with the hope that the second half of the book is better. I'm so disappointing right now... :o(

I was so excited to learn that we were finally getting Evan’s book. As the alpha, he’s had secondary roles in the previous books and I was more than a little in love with him and was looking forward to his story. In the previous book, Diamond Dust, Evan sniffs out his mate but she proves to evade him at every turn. Initially, I was okay with this tactic. It provided a bit of suspense or mystery and I looked forward to the woman who would be Evan’s mate.

Unfortunately, I never warmed up to Amy. She grew up under a huge misconception of events that occurred in the past involving Evan and Amy’s brother. For years she’s suffered the loss of her brother and and she blames Evan for everything. She’s made it her sole purpose in life to destroy him as she feels he destroyed her family. Amy is very intelligent and her plot to destroy Evan is quite successful. The one thing she didn’t count on was finding that Evan was, in fact, her mate.

The revenge plot in this story just did not work for me. Not that it wasn’t well thought out and and written really well, I just didn’t like Amy and I really disliked all the nasty things that she set up to hurt Evan, his pack and his businesses. While she strikes out at Evan, others are affected. Mate or not, this is not the type of woman I wanted for Evan. I kept thinking she was a bitch and with every additional horrible thing she slung against Evan I just hated her more.

Even when the mating urge takes over and Evan and Amy are forced to look at their relationship or at least the possibility of it and make important life decisions that will affect both their packs, I just disliked her. Mating urge or not, I wanted Evan to get mad and hold her accountable. He too easily forgave her and everything kind of worked itself out too easily with Amy never really redeeming herself in my eyes.

This story is well written. The plot in and of itself is well done and show’s Amy’s intelligence and strengths. This is fact. What she does and how she does it proves how capable she was and why she succeeded in taking a bunch of packless wolves and creating a community where she is respected and accepted in an alpha capacity. On paper, she’s seems exactly the type of female you’d want for a alpha. I just didn’t like her for Evan.

I've been looking forward to Evan's book for some time. In some ways I wasn't disappointed. It's well written, fast paced, has lots of action and the plot has plenty of surprises. Unfortunately, I didn't like Amy, the female lead. I had a huge problem with her underhanded, devious personality. Just because they are mates Evan overlooked her destructive actions and too readily accepted her. Truthfully, I was very annoyed and disappointed. I'm not saying Amy didn't change or do anything positive as the plot progressed but it was too late for me. Even at the end, I still didn't like her.

I HATED the heroine in this book. While the previous books had a nice feminist slant, this one did not. Making the heroine the alpha of her pack does not balance out the stupid, classic, useless female actions Amy takes.

She and the hero are the alphas of their respective packs and need to work together now that they're mates. What does Amy do? She gets mad at him, refuses to tell him why, and pushes him away until he figures out what her problem is. She does this multiple times. Amy gives him no clues or hints, but instead refuses to see Evan while he tries to guess what he's done wrong. Why not act like an adult and just tell him what he needs to know so you both can address the problem? This goes on and on until the last quarter of this book.

Evan isn't much better. Amy has been trying to sabotage his life as revenge for killing her brother. She hates him, but Evan doesn't tell her why he did it until the 75% mark. Why not act like an adult and tell your mate what she needs to know?

My first reaction:
So far I'm hating the female lead so much I'm not even sure I can finish this book
Even villains usually have some redeeming quality that makes them bearable, Amy is detestable and I'm disappointed Evan would even tolerate her.
And then....OK after my initial tantrum I have finished the book, whilst I enjoyed it in the end and liked Evan's character I still had trouble with Amy.

I was really looking forward to this book. However it kinda sorta sucked. I never liked Amy. And who just magically forgives people like that. Don't get me wrong Evan needed a strong female character but the author took it too far with Amy. And Evan was wrong about some things, but Amy did a lot of bad things to Evan and his pack.

FTC : I bought this book.

I have been looking forward to this book ever since we met Evan in book one. I love the Takhini Alpha and I’m not sure what I expected from his book but I’m sure this wasn’t it. Did I like it? Yes, I truly did, but it took me a while for me to forgive Amy for the rather childish pranks that she played on Evan in the name of revenge. Did I understand her motivations? Again yes, but that didn’t mean that I thought she could go from his malicious prankster to mate without some serious work. Amy sets out to destroy Evan personally and it made her seem manipulative, and even a little sly ,so I wasn’t sure she was the heroine I wanted for Evan. Then I started to see the things that she did as an Alpha and, I had to admit, she was an incredible Alpha.

The two packs in this were incredibly different and the one thing that made this a truly lovely story is that BOTH of the Alpha’s had to learn from each other to try to make a joining of the packs possible. Alpha’s in PNR tend to believe that they alone know the best thing for their pack and these two were no exception. To be fair, they did know what is best for their own packs; Amy knew that her pack was full of broken souls and needed nurture and protection whilst Even knew that his pack was more boisterous and needed a firmer hand. Unfortunately, they both thought their way of handling pack would work with the other pack without realising that Alpha’s seem to be skill matched to lead a particular group of individuals. They needed each other if they were to join the packs, but there was a lot of emotional baggage stopping them from actually cementing the mating. It was touch and go whether they would actually be together as humans or whether they would each break their wolfie hearts by staying away.

This is a different kind of books to the rest of the Takhini books; the set up is different, the emotional angst is much stronger and the issues didn’t really stem from themselves as people but as Alpha’s. Evan has to realise that he can still learn as an Alpha and also, as his mate is also an Alpha, he had to learn to allow Amy to fight her own way (which I was very impressed he tried to do). I have never read a book where the hero and heroine were Alpha’s of different packs and it was interesting to see how things played out. I think one of the main reason’s I was so affronted by Amy’s behaviour at the beginning was because it was very juvenile and she proved herself to be better than that over and over in the following chapters.

A big mention to Sean in this book; he is one of my favourite characters in this series and he was awesome in this book again. I want Justin’s book like yesterday too …. BEARS!!

This is not the place to start with this series but I do recommend that you pick up the Takhini pack books. This is not your typical Alpha wolf story. With respect and compromise being the main lessons that the lovely Evan had to learn, it really was full of angst and tension. Alpha’s aren’t known for accepting that they don’t know everything; can Evan do it for his mate?

Moonshine is book four in Vivian Arend Takhini Wolves series. It centers on the Takhini pack’s Alpha Evan Stone. He thinks he is in a good place. He has just gotten a sniff that his mate has been around his town, and he is ready to meet her and settle down. Before he can do that though he is thrown in jail, his banking goes crazy, and he has absolutely no idea what could be causing this run of bad luck. His “what” is none other than his mate, Amy Ryba, a female out for vengeance who has waited a long time to make Evan pay for the sins of his past. Can she forgive him for the wrongs she thinks he has done her and accept him as her mate, or will she do the unthinkable and reject her mate??
The tension and passion these two have between them make for a really great read. I love all of these books in this series, but I think Evan has a chunk of my heart. He really is the Alpha with a heart of gold. He really only wants to do what is best for everyone in the pack and for the woman that is his mate. This is not a quick slam bam ok I forgive you kind of story. Both of them have to learn to work together to build trust and a relationship that will not only bring happiness for them, but their two packs.

I enjoyed the read but I really didn’t understand just what the problem was with Sam. I understood the background mess but every little thing seemed like she was picking for a fight with Evan. It seemed like she really didn’t give him a chance to show that he was not as bad as she figured. Evan seemed to always be running behind her and letting her get her way which of course caused problems. I just didn’t like that she was acting like her pack was so weak and at the same time way more important than Evans pack. I liked she could handle her own though. You don’t get many stories where the females can and this one did and every second I wanted to read what she’d do next. Can’t wait for the next one.

Not my favorite

Out of all the Takhini Wolves series this was my least favorite. SPOILER ALERT: I really dislike stories that drag on because someone doesn't want to have a single conversation. This story had several other things I dislike as well. Someone trying to get revenge on a good person because of some injustice in the past based on inaccurate or incomplete information & when a mate questions if love could happen and/or pushes there mate away. This story for me was like nails on a chalkboard. Evan deserved a better mate even if it worked out in the end.

Although she had reasons, for the first half of the book the heroine had serious attitude, and I got tired of her being mean, childish and nasty. I found the hero Evan gentle and understanding and devoted, so I had trouble rooting for this couple until almost the end of the book.

Although I know the author was building suspense and more complicated plot twists, I found this 4th story had too much angst for me, and I missed the light gentle humour from earlier books in the series. I did not enjoy it as much as the previous two - 2 stars.

I was looking forward to reading about Evan and his mate but I was sorely disappointed. His mate was a bitch! And I thought that the story made him seem like a pushover and not a real alpha at all. It was almost as if she was perfect at everything and he was useless.

What happens when the man you’ve spent years of your life plotting your revenge against turns out to be your true mate?
As a male reader I’m certain my gender plays a major role in my overall thoughts on this book. I’m aware that contemporary romances are written primarily by women for a mostly female audience. As a Baby Boomer I’ve witnessed the trend for decades now in modern entertainment has been to portray men as simple-minded if well meaning creatures who require the more mature, wiser women in their lives to guide them and keep them out of trouble. I suppose it’s just a matter of the pendulum inevitably swinging in the opposite direction after decades of the male dominated entertainment industry portraying women as the weaker sex. Simple creatures who need a patriarchal male to guide and protect them and keep them out of trouble. The television sitcom landscape of the late Fifties and early Sixties was littered with such characters. We live in an era when many even question whether men are needed for anything other than providing the seed to create life. In Diamond Dust it’s made clear that the wolf and bear shifter cultures are strongly patriarchal in nature. That book’s heroine Caroline is a human woman who grew up in an inter-species household who with her intelligence and instincts is invaluable first to Evan the Alpha of the Takhini Pack and her soon to be former lover, and then Tyler the bear shifter alpha. Given those realities I shouldn’t have been surprised that in her Amy character, the female protagonist for this story, the author created a female Alpha who is not only vastly more intelligent and more empathetic than her male counterpart, but despite his and other male shifters obvious physical advantages is able to kick their asses. As Amy tells him she has the mental and physical skill set needed to be Alpha of both packs but Evan lacks the empathy and sensitivity to lead the Canyon pack. Girl power, hear me roar!
Amy or Samantha came to Whitehorse to destroy Evan the Alpha of the Takhini Pack whom she believes murdered her brother and in doing so destroyed her childhood. Along the way she became Alpha of the Canyon Pack, a smaller group of introverted, often emotionally struggling wolf shifters who share Whitehorse with the Takhini Pack. In Diamond Dust Evan got the scent of his true mate but is frustrated in his attempts to find her. In this book we learn his mate is Amy whom we met in Diamond Dust as an unnamed supposed mole within the Canyon Pack who is helping Caroline and Evan stay apprised of the goings on in the rival wolf pack, helping them with their plans to merge the two packs. Turns out that was all a ruse by Amy to get access to the Takhini Pack’s computer systems so she can wreak havoc upon the pack as part of her plan to bring it and Evan to its knees. Evan is hardly computer or technology literate, having depended upon Caroline to handle the tech side of the pack’s business. Now with Caroline out of country on her honeymoon with Tyler when things start to go haywire Evan is clueless that someone has taken over the pack’s computer system and by extension every facet of their business. Evan may not be brightest bulb in the pack but he is at his core a good man with good intentions. He becomes concerned with the safety of the woman he believes has been helping his pack as a mole within the Canyon pack having no clue that woman is actually that pack’s Alpha. When his Beta identifies Amy as a woman who works at a computer business that has been repairing the computers Evan keeps breaking (which is all part of Amy’s plot to put viruses and spyware in the Takhini pack’s computers) as their mole he decides to go to the business himself and rescue Amy before she is discovered and hurt or killed by the Canyon Pack for helping him. When Evan walks into the computer shop he immediately scents his mate and discovers Amy working in an office at the back of the business. And this is where the story takes off. Amy is shocked to discover her true mate, the shifter her inner wolf is pulled towards, is the man she believes is responsible for her older brother’s death. The man she’s been working behind the scenes to bring down the empire he’s been building with all of her planning ready to come to fruition. She struggles with the conflicting emotions and desires between her wolf and human sides. Evan who at first is clueless to the fact that Amy is the Canyon Pack Alpha and even after he discovers that fact he remains ignorant to the fact that she’s behind the mayhem that has been going on in his pack businesses and his personal life. But neither discovery discourages Evan from his goal to mate with Amy and combine their packs. With of course in his opinion Takhini absorbing Canyon while Amy has just the opposite idea and has already put things into motion to accomplish that goal. Of course Evan being a typical clueless, insensitive male manages to pretty much bungle both his relationship with Amy and the combining of their packs. How these two seemingly opposite Alphas manage to blend their lives and their packs is the basis of this story.

TakhiniWolves4

Evan Stone has scented his mate. She is close but elusive, just one more obstacle in the gathering sh*tstorm that his life is becoming. His pack is raucous at the best of times, and with Caroline mated and married to a bear shifter - Caroline who was his lifeline electronically - Evan needs to get a new handle. Soon.

Amy Ryba came to Whitehorse for one thing - revenge on Evan Stone - and it is personal. She has studied him and lined up all of his vulnerabilities for a massive takedown. And it’s all centered around his technophobia. Perfect.

Amy is also Sam and Alpha to the Canyon wolf pack, who are “special snowflakes”, wolves who have been abused in their home packs, and decided lone wolfing was better than dead. Amy has the heart to care for and protect each one of hers…

When Evan finds out that his Canyon pack insider works in Whitehorse, his first thought is to protect her from the repercussions of being caught helping the enemy…him. So when he goes by her store, he is blindsided to realize she is his fated mate. When she takes off running, Evan gives chase.

There is a reason for Amy’s hatred, her brother Philip is dead because Evan blew him up, but the why of Philip’s loss is something that still haunts Evan. Being fated mates comes with a level of attraction and a sexual imperative that is hard to deny. But, at their core, both Amy and Evan are about protecting others. Working past their perceptions to make a new reality is going to take effort and a new language of leadership for both of them. They are the center of their packs and must find united ground.

And it is a minefield.

Okay- I didn’t like Amy. She spent more time telling Evan what to do and how to act than to accept him for him. Everyone has faults, and so does she but claiming she did wrong pissed me off. While I liked the aspect of the book, she just rubbed me the wrong way. I love a good and strong woman, and I loved she could take care of herself- but never once did she let Evan take care of her pack. It was always her pack and thier pack. He never had one in her eyes. Ugh. I wanted to like it more, just wish she tried harder with him instead of him always trying with her. It wasn’t an even partnership to me.

This book was just borderline okay for me. The story was okay but the heroine was very much not likeable. The best I can say is that by the end of the book I didn't hate her. The hero was was so weak it annoyed me at times. The romance was not very believable given the circumstances. I'm a big fan of paranormal and sci-fi romance so suspending disbelief is not something I normally have a problem with, but the problems between these two seemed insurmountable and they were problems for a while and then just all of a sudden they were not. I didn't hate it... I mean I'm not mad at it... But I really didn't love it.

Can Evan and Amy merge the two packs or will they lose them both?

Loved watching Evan and Amy struggle and fight that they are mates.
Amy is on a path to destroy Evan and take over the Takhini pack as revenge for her brother's death that Evan caused but are her reasons valid? Will Evan tell her the whole truth about what happened to her brother? Will the secrets between them be the demise of both packs or will they be able to figure things out and come together? What will happen when a few of his pack follow a rebel and challenge Evan to fight for the pack and kidnap a young boy and Amy?

what a disappointment this book turned out to be. Amy was not a likable character at all. She was rude and came off as a know it all. She acted as though Evan didn't know anything and couldn't possibly understand anything that she said. half the time she wanted him to be a mind reader and when he didn't know why she was saying something she would get irritated. about 3/4 of the way into the book I stopped reading I couldn't take it any more.

I’m the alpha no I’m the alpha who will it be

Evan was going out of his head he had scented his mate and can’t find her, Amy hated him and wanted vengeance. This book started real slow and I wasn’t sure at first but when 1&1=6or7 you know it’s not just a straight forward mate meets mate make hot love oh no there is a lot to this story that’s unexpected. I recommend this book 4 of Takhini Wolves

I did not like Amy/Sam's character one bit. She's too childish. To take out her revenge on not just Evan but his pack and business as well. Cruel. She claimed to put pack first, but how can she say that when her actions and lack of actions hurt Evan's pack? And for Evan to just roll over and allow her to get away with it, weak alpha. Worst book of this series. I wish I had read other reviews before reading to save me the time and disappointment.

The Alpha Finds Love

Amy and Evan can't find common ground and although they want to bring the packs together, it's more difficult than they think. Danger, practice jkkkes that get out of control, strength, and emotions are a hard obstical to bring everyone together. I had the audio as well and it's a great narrator.

Alphas

This was my least favorite of the series. Evan was very different in this book, I preferred him in the previous books. I also did not like Amy, especially in comparison to the women in the previous books, Gem, Shelly and Caroline. However, I am sorry to see the series end.

Even though it was really hard 4 them both 2 think about their past, they were able 2 come 2gether after they got their childish paybacks done on both sides. And they learned how 2 let each other grow stronger while trying 2 stop the temptation of the protective insticts. Even though there is issues on 1 side they will b able 2 trust and b stronger in x. Can't wait 2 read more soon.

I liked Evan and Amy's story. My only gripe is the same as the last book. The author did too good a job of making me like Caroline and Evan as a couple (even though they aren't mates). So, even though I liked this book (and also the last one), part of me is still sad that Caroline and Evan weren't together. I couldn't quite let go of that. Sorry. Other than that, I enjoyed this book.

Amy and Evan didn’t have an easy time of it. Well, they did, but they didn’t. Confusion, conflicting practices, and used to always being in charge plagued them both. But both thought they were doing the best thing, and neither were malicious, it just took some trial and error for everything to work out. You knew once that happened, they would be unstoppable, and that was exactly what happened!

DNF...after 2 attempts I gave up on this one. I am bummed because I enjoyed Evan in previous books and wanted someone special for him. Amy's character was not who I envisioned and I just couldn't warm up to her....other reviews don't indicate a redemption arc for Amy so I am thinking my annoyance was unlikely to abate. 3 stars...well written and paced, but not for me

Fabulous finishing book in this series

Totally satisfied with this book. It rounds out all of the stories in this set of books.
Once again i was captivated by the shifter communities and their lives, the story unfolded in a surprising manner. Once again i thank you Vivian; for these books ,as i spend time out of my own life, embracing the stories you have created.
