Riggs has always been my best friend. So what if I’ve started to notice that the guys I’m now attracted to bear an uncanny resemblance to the hot hockey player? That’s not necessarily a problem, is it? All right, so maybe it is. Don’t worry…I have a plan to put the kibosh on the inappropriate fantasies rolling around in my head. It involves going out with someone who’s the opposite of my bestie. Except…the date turns out to be a total disaster. And who’s there to laugh it off with me later that evening? You guessed it—Riggs. It only takes a little game of truth or dare to realize that nothing will ever be the same between us again.
*This is a Christmas Novella in the Western Wildcats Hockey Series and is 12,500 words*

If you want a quick smutty short story, this one is for you. We get to see how one night changes everything between two friends, truth or dare will always be the best helper!
This was such a cute, short holiday story. I love Jennifer Sucevic books and can always count on them being interesting and an enjoyable read. This was the first short story I've read by her, and it connects with the Western Wildcats University hockey team.
Tropes: 🏒 College Hockey Romance 🎄 Best Friends to Lovers 🏒 Hidden Feelings 🎄 It's Always Been You 🏒 One Bed 🎄 Short Holiday Novella
I've loved the Western Wildcats series that Jennifer had been writing. We always get hot hockey players and girls that they become obsessed with. Like much in this series, we are introduced to all kinds of players on the team.
This short novella is Rigg's story. He is a senior in the team that we've seen throughout. I'm guessing that maybe he is a fill-in kind of story. Maybe she needed a book for him or wasn't planning on writing him one, but she decided to give him a short novella instead. And I'm so glad that she did!
We get this very short, 10 chapter book on a hot hockey player that has been mentioned throughout the first few books. Rigg's story was short, yet it was spicy!! He truly earned the friends to lovers trope with this book.
Stella has grown with Rigg's as her neighbor and her best friend. They've known each other their whole lives. What started as friendship became attraction the older they got. They hid their attraction and then later in feelings from each other, scared it would ruin their friendship.
Rigg's struggled watching Stella go on date after date with men, then come back to him to talk about said date. He didn't like it, but he never said anything. It's not like he was hurting in the female department. Even though he got his "releases" from different women, he never dated or talked about them with Stella.
One night, after a bad date that ended up with Stella bringing her date back to the hockey house for a party, she ends up playing truth or dare with her friends. She was dated to kiss Rigg's, and she accepted. Talk about a hot kiss 🥵🔥
Steps was already staying at Rigg's place, in his room, and in his bed like they've done plenty of times before. That kiss made it awkward, and she didn't know how to act around Rigg's. Let's just say that night in bed turned into some very hot "self" pleasure, where they watched each other. Boy, was it hot too!!
After that, Stella ran scared, but Rigg's was tired of denying how he felt. He wants Stella to be his and will stop at nothing to make it happen. She just has to trust him. Can she give in to him and her feelings, or will she run scared and demand space? The only thing she can't lose in her life is her best friend.
This is a very quick read. I think I read it in less than 2 hours. Most of the book is their push and pull and their spicy moments. It's jumped in quick and is over before you know it. I'm glad we got Rigg's book, but I wanted more. I love novellas, and I hate them at the same time. I feel like there is no depth or plot. And dang it, I enjoy some drama and a good plot. I'm still glad I read this book, though.
The classic lovers-to-enemies trope certainly captures attention—especially with its steamy, erotic scenes that can appeal to both female and male readers. I managed to read all six books in about a week, driven by that irresistible urge to finish what I started. However, with each installment, I anticipated a fresh twist or a new dimension to the story, only to encounter a repetitive pattern: the same storyline, similar plot twists, and different backgrounds that all felt predictably alike.
There are several points that I believe the writer could have addressed:
Distinct Character Voices: A writer should be present yet invisible, allowing each character to speak in their own unique voice. Unfortunately, in this series, every character—even when switching between different points of view—expresses themselves in nearly identical ways. This uniformity diminishes the potential for creativity, as it strips each character of individuality. Differentiated Gender Perspectives: It’s rare to see a male perspective echoing a female one so closely. The male characters in these books often express thoughts and emotions that are distinctly feminine, which makes the narrative feel inauthentic. This lack of genuine gender distinction raises questions about whether the writer truly understands the nuances of male and female perspectives. Lack of Imagination in Plot and Character Development: While the concept of transformation is central to many romance stories, here it falls short. The typical arc—where a jock playboy suddenly falls for the one girl who initially rejects him, or where a girl hesitates only to give in to her desires—comes off as forced rather than a natural evolution of character. There’s so much untapped potential in these characters, but instead of exploring depth and originality, the narrative relies on repetitive dialogue and predictable changes. In the end, while the series does provide engaging entertainment and a quick escape from reality, it ultimately leaves you craving a more profound, thought-provoking story.
Riggs and Stella have been neighbors and friends since elementary school. And now thanks to a bursted pipe, they’re roomies sharing a bed…Things start to feel not so platonic. They feelings they’ve been ignoring for years has become impossible to pretend they don’t exist. Add in a game of truth and dare, and nothing will ever be the same. They’re both terrified they’re going to ruin the friendship, but you can’t ignore what the heart wants! You also can’t ignore meddling teammates and besties! This is a great addition to this series!
My Favorite Quotes: • “Don’t stop. Please. I want to watch you.” • “I want to be your everything, just like you’re mine.”
6/10 Dirty Birdy 3/10 Forced Proximity 7/10 Friends to Lovers 7/10 Series
It was a novella, and while I feel like I should know the characters because I think I read about one of the couples mentioned, I remember nothing. This was smut set in December (?) because one scene described a Christmas tree in a coffee shop😂.
I am fine with smut (I frequently just skip it) if there’s more of a story to go with it so I connect with characters. That was not this story. It was fine- no hate and no love from me. Just a quick read.
Dare You To Love Me was such a lovely novella set in the Western Wildcats Hockey series with all these friends to lovers vibes. Coming to terms with the fact that you are attracted by your best friend is hard. And thanks to a game of truth or dare Riggs and Stella are facing their attraction to each other. Giving a chance to a relationship between them was the perfect conclusion to this sweat and heated novella.
Best friends find out they want each other by a date but Stella is uncertain if they messed up their friendship by crossing the line. She and Riggs have been best friends since they were little and lived behind each other. Stella never noticed how Riggs looked until it was now. All muscles and shoulders and beautiful. Riggs has always wanted Stella but has never started anything until now and there is no going back.
Read this as part of the Melting the Ice anthology which was a anthology full of hockey holiday themes novellas so I could not resist. It was actually the first anthology I read back to back and I loved all the novellas. Super excited to read some of the series these novellas are set in, not all of them are part of a universe but some are and I'm really excited to read more from a lot of these authors!
Stella and Riggs are old platonic friends, until they are dared to kiss, and then they're no longer platonic. Stella freaks out for fear of losing the friendship, but it is easily solved once they speak. That's it, there's no other conflict. Goodreads dubs this as a novella but felt more like a short story. I got this as a bookfunnel freebie, and my copy ends at 65% and the rest is excerpts.
Tried another of Sucevic’s works…because, well, no idea 🤷🏼♀️
Awkward, wording and awkward dialogue, together with flat and two dimensional characters made for some really painful reading 😑 thankfully, this one was really short. I really need to learn from my past mistakes and not do this to myself again.
I really enjoyed what little of Stella and Riggs we got here. Their spice and connection was perfect. I just wish there was more! I would’ve given anything for just an epilogue or something to see them as an actual couple as opposed to just hooking up and deciding to take their bestie-ship to the level it should’ve been at for awhile.
I’ve always been a fan of this author. I’ve read the other books of the western wildcats hockey and loved them. My only complaint is that this story was too short! I would have loved for it to be longer.
This was a fun little "bonus" in my eyes for Western Wildcats fans. It was a hot, quick read that filled in the backstory for characters I'd "met," but had always wondered about. It was really nice to be able to fill in the blanks and watch Stella and Riggs find their HEA.
I adore Jennifer’s writing, and I love when the series intertwines together. I love seeing little glimpses of our favorite couples. These are feel good books, and honestly? They make me happy.
this was a quick read but I love that the author didn't drag out the characters fighting their feelings. the initial sex scenes where they watch each other masturbate was sexy as hell and it was written fairly well

This book was short and spicy. I loved it and the spice was great. Almost wish we got more. All it needed was a short little epilogue at the end giving us a glimpse of them actually together. Overall great short book. 4/5
This was such a cute and short friends to lovers. Having outside forces push them together while he was not willing to let go was just what my heart needed. While I would have loved more of them this was just what we needed to watch them get together.
Novellas are supposed to be short... but that was ridiculous. As I've read the series, I knew the characters, so it was a decent end to the side characters' story, but im confused why they didn't get their own book...
Loved the chemistry of these two, just the right length without drawing out the story unnecessarily. Loved the Christmas setting though it wasn’t over the top. Another 5-star rating for Jennifer Sucevic!
