If you've ever wanted to double, triple or quadruple your memory abilities, then this may be one of the most important books you will ever read.

In The Trained Memory by Warren Hilton, you'll learn:

* How to improve your memory using famous icons like the Mona Lisa so that you can easily create powerful mental imagery that will allow you to recall information with ease.

* The secrets of using four memory processes that will literally "unlock" your memory abilities.

* How to "tune in" on your memory capacities by cultivating a state of awareness in the present.

* The importance of "integral recall" and how to use it so that you can overcome the deficits of "ordinary thinking."

* A simple method of association numbers with sounds that will allow you to quickly recall phone numbers, seat numbers and other strings of digits that you encounter in daily life.

* The basic principles of "thought reproduction" and how they can be used simplify complex groupings of information and ideas.

* The art of compelling yourself to recall information, even when you don't feel up to it.

* The secrets of association and how to develop this skill for quick use when memorizing important information.

* How to form the correct habits of memory so that you can memorize and recall information systematically and persistently.

* How to use memory "tokens" to dramatically increase your recall.

* The exact steps to take to improve your attention in order to improve sensory experience and imbue the mind with lightning quickness.

* Daily morning routines and drills for increasing your mental capacity for observation, inventive thinking and positivity.

* … and much, much more.

Look, none of these techniques require brain surgery, crazy math or rocket science. These are simple strategies that real people have used to achieve massive improvements in their memory abilities simply by learning a few quick tricks, implementing them and changing how they think about the muscle between their ears.

But there's really no time to lose. Every day that you're not using the natural abilities of your mind by having a dedicated memorization strategy, you are missing out on walking through an open the door that will make literally anything possible.

Honestly, I was not terribly impressed. This was a fairly dated text with annotation that while well written didn't feel as though they added much. It was cheap at least and if you aren't already familiar with the ideas expressed, it might be of some use.

I like Anthony Metivier writing and methods, and this is the third book of have read from him, however understand that this is actually a book from around 1914, with commentary from Anthony. I found the language of the original book very tough to read, and felt much more like a scientific white paper than something for the average person. Anthony's commentary was enjoyable and easy to read as always, but if you are just looking for help and suggestions on improving you memory, I think you way better off purchasing one of Anthony's own books. I think the only reason to purchase this book would be if you are a serious student of memory, and would like to get a historical view of the subject with commentary from one of the current experts in the field.

Sounds great in theory, actually horrible in practice- none of those tricks work on kids.

This book is interesting - to add a basic summary, we remember things that we were fully engrossed in when it happened. Especially things that invoke several senses at once (emotions, smells, etc). The book includes exercises to help practice focusing & paying more attention. It's definitely an interesting read & provides good tips if you're motivated enough to try them out!
