Rate this book
From USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Sucevic comes a holiday novella in the Western Wildcats Hockey Series.

When I’m offered a scholarship to Western University, what choice do I have but to accept? The good news—I get to live off campus with my cousin who also happens to be my bestie.

The bad news—my ex plays hockey for the Western Wildcats. So, I’ve spent most of the fall semester skulking around campus, not wanting to run into Madden. He’s the guy who broke my heart three years ago when he decided to cut ties.

Guess he moved on to bigger and better stuff.

Stuff that didn’t include me.

Now I just want to get through the rest of this year without him realizing that we both attend Western.

Unfortunately, that plan gets blown to hell when we run into each other at a party.

And he makes me an offer I can’t refuse.

No. Just…no 🫤 maybe if it was a proper full length story, the author would have had enough time to make their relationship more meaty. As it stands, it was hard to root for the MCs because there wasn't enough to really get to know them. They felt like cardboard cutouts of, like, roles and not well rounded characters. There was potential for some real angst, given their history, but it just fell flat. Sucevic's writing just isn't for me, I think.

Always My Girl is a short novella by author Jennifer Sucevic that takes place in the Western Wildcats Hockey world.
This particular story takes place before Never Mine to Hold the third book in the Western Wildcats Hockey series, following Fallyn’s cousins Viola 'Vi' and Hockey player Madden 'Mads' Caruso in this Second Chance Romance.

Even with being a novella, Jennifer managed to present a fulfilling narrative.
One that not only gave a back history of Viola and Madden, answering our questions of them being on the opposite sides in the beginning of the story, only to then develop onwards within their present lives showcasing how they were dealing with trying to live out their individual college lives, amongst having to see each other around. Something Viola did not want and struggled with.
Ultimately this played into the character development showcased with seeing Viola and Madden grow from their past to who they were now, resulting in the the continuation of a forward progression of the storyline as a whole, eventually leading to a sweet HEA.

For being a short, Always My Girl by Jennifer Sucevic was a cute, sweet and heartfelt story, having you in the feels when it came to seeing Viola and Madden getting a Second Chance with Viola taking a leap of faith.
All the whilst filling out some gaps for me in Never Mine to Hold having read that before Viola and Madden’s story.

I instantly knew I needed to protect my own heart while Viola and Madden protected theirs. These high school sweethearts are now in college together, both still suffering from their break up years ago. Madden was swamped, miserable, defeated, and afraid to voice that to her. Just heartbroken scared kids trying to figure out college and their hearts. He just wants one more chance, and while Viola is hesitant, she can't help but give him one. There was no denying their love, although she does try her hardest to!

My Favorite Quotes:
• "In my heart, it'll always be you."
• "I can honestly say l've never seen anything more beautiful."
• "If I couldn't have you, I didn't want anyone else."

The classic lovers-to-enemies trope certainly captures attention—especially with its steamy, erotic scenes that can appeal to both female and male readers. I managed to read all six books in about a week, driven by that irresistible urge to finish what I started. However, with each installment, I anticipated a fresh twist or a new dimension to the story, only to encounter a repetitive pattern: the same storyline, similar plot twists, and different backgrounds that all felt predictably alike.

There are several points that I believe the writer could have addressed:

Distinct Character Voices:
A writer should be present yet invisible, allowing each character to speak in their own unique voice. Unfortunately, in this series, every character—even when switching between different points of view—expresses themselves in nearly identical ways. This uniformity diminishes the potential for creativity, as it strips each character of individuality.
Differentiated Gender Perspectives:
It’s rare to see a male perspective echoing a female one so closely. The male characters in these books often express thoughts and emotions that are distinctly feminine, which makes the narrative feel inauthentic. This lack of genuine gender distinction raises questions about whether the writer truly understands the nuances of male and female perspectives.
Lack of Imagination in Plot and Character Development:
While the concept of transformation is central to many romance stories, here it falls short. The typical arc—where a jock playboy suddenly falls for the one girl who initially rejects him, or where a girl hesitates only to give in to her desires—comes off as forced rather than a natural evolution of character. There’s so much untapped potential in these characters, but instead of exploring depth and originality, the narrative relies on repetitive dialogue and predictable changes.
In the end, while the series does provide engaging entertainment and a quick escape from reality, it ultimately leaves you craving a more profound, thought-provoking story.

This is a short second chance romance. Viola and Madden had dated before but he was failing his classes and asked for a break and somehow she was under the impression that he wanted to sleep around more. When they see each other again he asks for a second chance. It was OK but could have been fleshed out a bit more.

Spice: 🌶🌶🌶

A sweet and spicy second chance, hockey romance. This is a very short book, 10 chapters that reunite Madden and Viola after being separated for 3 years. I ate this story up in less than 2 hours. It was a head pallet cleanser, and it tied into the Western Wildcats series... which is such a great series!

Tropes:
🏒 College Hockey Romance
🎄 Second Chance
🏒 One Bed
🎄 Holiday Novella (10 Chapters)
🏒 Regret
🎄 It's Always Been You

This nice holiday novella ties right into the Western Wildcat series. I love the college hockey romance series that Jennifer writes. This book ties in right before Never Mine to Hold, which is Fallyn and Wolf's book. They were actually the first book I read in this series and feel in love with it so much that I bought the entire series from the author. This novella actually introduces Fallyn if you are reading this series in order.

Viola or Vi is cousins with Fallyn, and they live together in an apartment. Vi had been hiding out in her apartment since transferring colleges that year all to avoid her ex-boyfriend Madden.

Madden is one of the hotshot hockey players at Western. He gets a lot of attention, especially from the ladies. Vi is still heartbroken over their breakup even though it happened 3 years prior. She still had never gotten over Madden, no matter how hard she tried.

She sees him with the ladies and his friends and runs and hides. He seems like he is doing fine while she still suffers. We do get to see a different side to Madden when we reach his point a view.

Fallyn talks Vi into going to an ugly Christmas sweater frat party. It's the first part she's attended since moving there. Madden thinks his eyes are playing tricks on him when he sees Vi for the first time in 3 years. He can't help but chase after her and plead with her to just hear him. The problem is that Vi doesn't trust him nor her heart anymore.

Book: Always my girl

Review: This little novella was beauts ❤️ after reading about Maddox and Viola in Wolf and Fallyn’s book I just had to read their story and this short story was just chefs kiss 😘 loved even after 3 years these two still had strong feelings for one another. I’m glad Viola gave Maddox the chance to win her back and the man brought his A game 😉 it was just a cute read and I enjoyed reading the growth these two showed in this book compared to how they were in the past which led them to carry on their relation but with a slow progression. They were just meant to be 🥰❤️

What I love:
* Madden seeing Viola at the party and learning she goes to the same university as him
* JEALOUS MADDEN 🔥🔥
* Ohhh Madden ❤️ in his best it’ll always be Viola
* Fallyn looking out for Viola love the cousin love 🥰
* Maddox win your girl over in 24 hours!
* Maddox bringing his A game to win Viola back ☺️
* Their confession ❤️
* I’m glad they’re going to take it slow and build up their relationship they deserved their second chance

3.5/5⭐️ 1/5🌶️

3.5 stars bc it’s cute in its own way, for what is given to us it was alright. Being a novella, it isn’t nearly long enough for me to get into it the way I normally would.

I love a good second chance romance, but I need some angst and hurdle to overcome. Madden and Viola broke up years ago when things got tough. He asked for time, she cut him loose. No conversation, showing just how much they were still kids.

Now she’s back in his proximity and he can finally tell her how he feels. He asks for time to win her over, she agrees and BAM, I love yous on both sides.

I feel like since we really hadn’t gotten a lot of Madden in the previous books, he could have been anything we wanted him to be. A novella doesn’t have to be crazy short, even adding another 40-50 pages and having it give us MORE would have gotten me more invested in the story.

Always My Girl is a holiday novella from the world of the Western Wildcats Hockey series. Madden and Viola's story is a sweet second chance romance with enemies to lovers vibes. They broke up three years ago when things got hard for Madden his first year in college. Now Viola transferred to the same college. One chance meeting and Madden has this crazy idea to try to fix the situation between them. And this is an opportunity that Viola can't refuse. And groveling Madden was so swoony. The happy ending of their situation was so good and I loved it.

Another novella, a new holiday love story!

The plot - this is a short holiday novella. Enemies to lovers and second chance romance. Smut was 2.5/5 on the spice scale. It’s a HEA kind of? You get the vibe that it’s a HEA anyway. It cannot be a true HEA given that it’s so short. There are also further interconnected standalones if the end of the novella is to be believed!
It’s on Kindle Unlimited, super easy to get into…
Oh and, it’s only 83 pages so why tf not?

The MC - Viola seems like a great character, if not a touch cautious in everything she does and who is surprised? She got fucked up a lil in her break up.

The male counterpart - Madden is a bit confused but he got the spirit! And he does make it up to our girl so I’m team Madden!

love quick reads

Madden and Viola were high school sweethearts until they broke up. Madden went to college and Vi was crushed when he started pulling away. So they broke up and didn’t see each other for 3 years until Vi transferred to Madden college and he didn’t know. They both still love each other but need to talk. Will they figure it out and get back together?

It's a spicy, hockey second chance romance novella.... I can't say much about the story or the characters without knowing details of their history. They didn't go in depth about their break up. At least, one page dedicated to their past would've been sufficient. But, nevertheless it was fun and a quick read. Also, I kind of do want to read the rest of the series. So, we'll see.

Wow.

That escalated quickly! I’ve read a bunch of Jennifer Sucevic’s books. They are always quick, easy reads. This novella took a *hot* turn I wasn’t expecting. It’s shorter than I thought, too, ending at 69% on my Kindle.

Not enough story for me. I ended up skimming and just when I was about to call it a day, I’d reached the end.

Not sure I can add anything more that wouldn’t spoil the read for others.

Another fun foray into the Western Wildcats world. Viola has been avoiding the guy she fell for three years ago like the plague. He broke her heart back then, but if she lets him back in, will he do it again? This was a steamy, second-chance love story just the right size for a late-night read.

Super short. Viola and madden were high school sweethearts who broke up and she went to a different college. She transferred to the same college as madden, they hook back up and realize they’ve always loved eachother and that’s that.

Didn’t realize it was a short story, maybe they are not for me. I didn’t like this at all, the characters needed development and maybe it could lead to something good but everything was super rushed like it needed to end in a second

Can't really rate this as it was a very very short story, but I wish I had read it before book 3 in this series, as these characters and their story were mentioned a few times and I was just confused, or well.

It's a great second chance romance. Sweet in many ways that gives you a reason to root for their reunion. It's a novella, so we get to see not just them but other characters in this world. Enjoy
