Hadley Hunter is the new mayor about town...and she's about of find trouble. She won't be alone for the fight. Her motley crew of paranormal friends will stand with her. No matter what. Full blurb coming soon
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
Oh that was a good one! It held my interest the whole way through. The sand dunes and sand worms eating people and missing time. What the heck is going on?!
There’s something out beyond the sand and it may be closer than Hadley thinks. However, she can’t get to the other side to see because there are people-eating and diesel eating sand worms.
In the last few decades many people have gone to the dunes or gotten near them and never returned. Drones were sent out and the transmission faded out just before the drones disappeared forever. There was even a diesel driven through the dunes and it slowly pulled underneath into the sand (like that movie “Tremors” or like someone mentioned “Beetlejuice”).
Then there’s a sand figure appearing to Hadley in her dreams telling her to stay away, but Hadley is too curious and always needs to solve puzzles so she’s on the case to find out what’s out there and what happened to the missing people. Of course she couldn’t do it alone, so her fiancé Galen who is also the Sheriff, Lilac her demon best friend, Booker the Cupid, boyfriend to Lilac, and best friend to Galen, Aurora a siren and childhood friend to Lilac, Booker, and Galen, and then Brody the shark shifter who is also Aurora’s beau who will all put their heads together to figure out how to get through the puzzle and defeat the worms and whatever else is “out there”.
Marjory, Galen’s mom even plays a role in the story although she doesn’t necessarily help with the “situation”.
This was so good and so mysterious!
PS - Hadley still needs to catch Carlos!
Next is Book 15 “Better Luck Hex Time”, Publish Date: January 7, 2025. Since I can’t read Book 15 yet, I’m heading over to a book by Thea Cambert called “Murder on the Wing” Book 21 of The Rooftop Garden Cozy Mysteries. See ya there!
Galen needs to grow the heck up. Half the time he’s tolerable. The rest of the time he’s an over-testosteroned alpha male dudebro jackass who would give Tarzan a run for his chauvinistic money. Ditto Booker. Other characters have been allowed to grow and develop. Why not those two?
Pros: interesting characters outside of main characters at times were fun, such as Galen’s cousins- the Winters. Sami and her mom were especially humorous. The newlyweds that was made up of a detective and a necromancer communicator was a great laugh throughout the book. The events that took place and how they played out were often either on the edge of your seat or laughing so hard from the antics taking place. Booker is a favorite character and says exactly what’s on his mind. He put Hadley in her place when no one else would when she said or did anything that hurt others. He’s kind and a gentle man. Lilac Meadows - bar owner and half demon. Liked to gossip. Aurora- siren. Sassy and not one to take grief from others. Brody, a surprise shifter. A great addition to series. Wesley, Hadley’s grandfather, was an important part of islands peoples as he helped keep them fed with his ranch/farm. Marjory, Galen’s mother, added interest and intrigue from the beginning to end of series. Even Jareth the funeral character made an entertaining read. Cordelia kept her factions to her part of island.
CONS: Word choices were lacking. Several words were repeated specifically throughout the certain books. Books one, two, and three were really bad. Then word choices began to differ. That was all but the words “fantastical “ and Galen’s constant “baby”. Those continued throughout the series. The word fantastical definitely needed to be replaced with just plain “fantasy” more often or another word all together. I don’t know what the author was thinking. The book that dealt with the DDA and the Clive and the planes was not the best by far of the books. Hadley, to be an adult, acted childish. Constantly getting into situations that others had to rescue her from to the point of beyond aggravating. Then to make this whiny box person mayor was off putting. (This reader found her to be immature more often than not. Hadley was also selfish.) Galen, a wolf shifter and the sheriff, while an overall great guy had to constantly baby Hadley. Even going so far as to repeatedly calling her “baby” so often throughout the series that it was ridiculous. A friend to many on the island and one who had to have a great deal of patience. Booker, though he could not shift physically, he sure caused a shift in the female population. He took junk off of Hadley because he was “not” Galen’s friend.
After reading all fourteen books and waiting for the fifteenth one to come out in 2025, I hope Ms. Lee will have made some changes to childish Hadley. One last thing that needs to be mentioned was that there were typos in both spelling and punctuation in several places.
extraordinarily entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series
This is an extraordinarily entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. A fun cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Hadley is a witch who lives on an island a magical island. She lives in a White House with her shift her boyfriend who happens to be the sheriff of the island. Her best friend is half demon and her group of friends are all some type of magical elemental. Hadley is the current mayor of Moonstone Bay after they took down the corrupt DDA who had been running the island for a very long time. Read on and see what adventure they get into this time. Another evil is a foot can they battle her way past it and succeed or will evil win this time. Read and find out
I loved this one, very fresh(as in this author writes a lot of stories and sometimes the differing stories have very similar problems where you can tell she was working on them at the same time). Am I crazy to hope Mayor Hadley puts Poet and company out there because who would be better to watch over an area and not take guff from the wolves or sirens? Tweak the dream catcher to detect open plane doors. I can just imagine Raven and Percy finding a sand worm egg and getting ridiculously maternal. Or Brody losing a wager against Luke and having to appear under the big top in half shark form. Haha I might need to go reread poet lol, apparently I'm craving her. This might be my favorite crossover so far. When it happens. Lol.
I read this author, I think, mostly due to her productivity. She releases a lot of books in several series, so there was always something new coming. Unfortunately, they have all started to blend together. I realize that I only continue reading the multiple series because there must be some sort of finale. I've decided that I just don't care enough about the finale to carry on. In the case of this particular series, I just do not like the main character. She doesn't seem to have sufficient endearing characteristics to have gotten the hottest guy and all sorts of other people in town acting like she's the best thing since the Mai Tai was invented. Enough...just enough. I cannot fault the writing, but I just don't care.
I had high hopes for this book when the first part of chapter one is Hadley actually doing her job. But then she was crawling all over Galen’s lap in his office at work, and they were planning how they could have sex in his office at the police station without anyone knowing. Disgusting. Did Hadley even work one full day as mayor in this book?
Why are all the people on the police force men? Galen sure does love to talk about “his men.”
Why was everyone so surprised the witch doctor was going for Hadley specifically? The villain ALWAYS goes after Hadley specifically.
Stop calling women “good girls.” It’s so misogynistic.
And please, for the love of dog, stop using the word ascertain. You must not realize how much you use the word across your series, but it’s a lot in every book.

Back and forth between 3 and 4 stars. I've decided to take a break from Lee's books. They seem to be very similar in overall concept and snarkiness. Some are actually better than others - this one is an example of less snark, but also less substance. I enjoyed Hadley when the series started. Now it just seems to be one "how wonderful I am" after another - between both her and Galen. When other characters continue to talk about what a pain they are, maybe even the readers should pay attention.
The sheriff's office gets a call about a child wandering on the road. The cellular call ends abruptly. The caller is nowhere to be found. There's an area nearby with sand worms that everyone is afraid to enter.
What a wild adventure, as always; was completely surprised constantly with," I didn't see that coming!" The only difficult thing was, I absolutely could not stop, it keeps you so engrossed you have to keep going to see what's going to happen. The mind of an author just amazes me, and Amanda definitely has one of the best I've ever read. Another fantastic story.
Sand worms I thought were only in Beetlejuice. Nope the have them in the island of Moonstone Bay. This one was great, I never new about the Mohans such an interesting paranormal. I'm glad Hadley didn't fall for Hugos, how did she say it, oh ya "he has you drinking the kill aide". She didn't and the got closure on all the missing people. On to the next adventure!!😉💙💚
I can't recommend this series enough folks. It has a bit of everything. An interesting storyline along with characters that interact well leaving me entertained from cover to cover. Intrigue balanced with a big dash of humor holds your attention and keeps you wanting more.
Another fun story from Moonstone Bay. This was an interesting story with a new and different plot. I enjoyed how the team worked together to overcome the threat. Once again I wish the wrap up wasn’t skimmed over and barely summarized, but that is Ms. Lee’s style. I still continue to read each book for the fun interactions with the Moonstone crew.
The whole series has been good, love the Sox main characters. The storylines are interesting
and different and don't repeat which is good. Only thing is, as Hadley is the Mayor now, the character should be doing more mayoral stuff, in office stuff. Sure a story would be good around her role and the dda.
I’ve always enjoyed Moonstone Bay but I think this book ranks as one of my top favorites. I like how the 4 couples worked together to work out the mystery and resolve it. Also the story was very unique and fresh.
This may be my favorite yet in this series! It started out so innocuously. Then it just got so much weirder with each new level of understanding. I loved it! Also, aw, the characters are really growing up. Aww…so cute!
This series is a fun one to read! I really enjoy revisiting Moonstone Bay and all of the characters. If you like your paranormal cozy mysteries with a lot of magic, romance, snark, and sarcasm, you'll enjoy this series!
I love all of these authors' books. I am so glad we got to visit with Hadley and the crew. I am never disappointed in the stuff they get into. I would give this more stars if I could
Awesome read, Hadley and friends once again have to save moonstone bay from a crazy paranormal being and find out what happened to all the missing people without anyone becoming wiser about it.
This book has tackled the issue of cult lifestyle. The loss of freedom of choice. The greed and power that inevitably becomes the underlying factor in cult communities. This is a powerful book.
The characters are fun, realistic and continue to grow. The plot lines come together in the end. I don't know how she thinks up these stories. I can't wait for the next book.
I love Hadley and Galen, Booker and Lilac are always fun, and all the rest! Galen's mom... well, the jury is still out on her. Great story with unexpected twists, and altogether a great read!
Book with a fair amount of twists and I love that each book finishes the story. I absolutely hate cliff hangers, this author doesn’t need them Doesn’t use them Can’t wait for the next one
I just finished this series and I recommend the A Moonstone Bay Cozy Mystery Books. They are a fun read, great characters, well written and you cannot wait to read the next book. Job well done Ms Amanda Lee.
This one had everything and more! I’ve never read anything quite like it before. Kudos to Amanda M. Lee and her amazing and endless imagination. I am looking forward to reading more.
I don't know how she does it but Amanda M Lee creates worlds full of compelling characters and weaves stories that keep me guessing and intrigued to the last page!
It started out slow with Hadley dealing with majorly duties, and moved on to the real mystery of missing persons. Not quite as gring as I thought it would be, but it kept me occupied.
I always like an Amanda M Lee book. They are fun and easy to read. This book shows the has Hadley discovering a hidden secret that the DDA kept hidden.
