One thing—more than any other—keeps us from a compelling we are STUCK. Some of us are stuck for short seasons of time. But others surrender to a life of being continually trapped and frustrated. The hang-ups of our past, fear of failure, victim mindsets, broken relationships, disappointment with ourselves—together with the lack of fresh encounters with God—have left many of us struggling and unable to move into our next season. Unstuck is a wake-up call for all those tired of being stuck. Organized around the most significant event of the prophet Elijah's life, his cave experience, Unstuck helps you discover what is holding you back from starting a new chapter of life. Mark Jobe will help you address your unfinished business, rediscover your boundaries, break out of isolation, and re-envision your life story to step out of your cave and into your call.
Very good book. Easy read with lots of good short stories that keep it interesting. Highly recommend for anyone who may be experiencing a dry season in their spiritual journey.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest and fair review, my thanks for the opportunity.
Unstuck is a Christian book that tackles the topic of feeling stuck in your life and offers biblical and practical methods for becoming unstuck. The book draws strongly upon the story of the prophet Elijah and his journey in fear to hide in the cave from Jezebel and her minions, I think most Christians are familiar with this biblical story.
I think non-Christians would find this book very readable too, it's not overdone with scriptural references, includes real life testimonies and stories of everyday people in different stuck situations in life and how they came through it with God's help.
I found the description of the steps of HOW we get stuck in our lives, in a rut and unable to move, I very much related to the analogies offered. Pastor Mark Jobe has written a very easy to read "how-to" book that many could gain a lot from.
I have read a lot of Christian books over the years and sometimes find that many of them rely heavily on personal anecdotes, so are almost like part-memoir, this is no exception, Mark has shared much of his struggles and wins in his book for the reader to relate to.
3.5 stars, my only slight criticism is that I didn't feel I learned anything NEW from this read that I had not read before, but did enjoy it very much and recommend it for both Christian and non-Christian readers alike.
PRACTICAL! Mark gives an easy-to-read, extremely practical, and forward thinking work on getting out from under the funk that you've been in so that you can fully experience life abundantly... just as Jesus wished for you!
I read this as a pastor and found myself identifying my cave, the things holding me back, and a growing excitement to fully experience the life that God intended for me. At the same time I couldn't help but to think of how many people in our church, friends of mine, and family members could explode out of their current situation into a faith-filled, fear-depleted, life of purpose.
I gave a 5-star rating because it is rare that a book is as easy to read, apply, and impact for people across the spiritual maturity spectrum.
