Reed Twins #2

Really Should Stay

Rate this book
When he’s obsessed with the one who got away…so his twin gifts her to him for Christmas.Nicholas
There are only two people in this world that I’ve ever cared my twin… and her.

Tamryn.

Miss Carlisle.

My English teacher when I was in high school—and the woman I couldn’t stay away from, even when she told me I should.

Even when all of Shadowvale thought I should... as if I cared about that. Still, I did what was expected of me. I didn’t pursue her until after I graduated. Then, after the fateful Halloween when I turned nineteen, I claimed her as mine—but, by Christmas, she was gone.

I didn’t chase. That’s always been Hunter’s thing, and he tried to find her for me. I know he did.

What I didn’t know? Was that he never stopped searching—just like I never stopped thinking of Tamryn of mine.

So when Hunter one-ups last year's birthday gift to him by leaving Tamryn next to my Christmas tree this year, there’s no doubt in mind about what I’m going to do with her.

Anything I want.

Tamryn
I made it a little over two years as a teacher before scandal had me changing my name, changing my looks, and walking away from the biggest mistake I ever made.

Eleven years later, I have to admit that leaving was a bigger one.

Nicholas Reed. I knew what I was getting into when I went to his house that Halloween, but I thought it was okay. He was the one he pursued me, and he wasn’t my student anymore.

No. But when he killed my ex in front of me, then expected me to look past it, I knew that he was more trouble than I needed—especially when I end up being the cops' only suspect in Logan's murder.

I kept my silence about what Nicholas did, and, in exchange, he kept his distance. But as the years slipped by, I couldn’t help but think I saw him there. Over my shoulder, in the reflection of a storefront window, even in my gated community.

But it wasn’t Nicholas, was it? It was his twin—and he’s finally decided it’s time I go where I belong.

It’s time I return to Shadowvale and face the man Nicholas has become, and who I’m still inexplicably drawn to a decade after I saw him last... even after he makes me a deal that I can't afford to refuse.

*Really Should Stay is a standalone dark romance novella that is set on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day and can be read all year round! It tells the story of one half of the ruthless Reed twins, and the one woman he’ll do anything to have… again.

Avoid. Gratuitous and in-depth jabs at the h over how many OW H has fucked in their separation.
OH. AND
Guess who was celibate for over 11 FUCKING YEARS? And guess who was fucking literally HUNDREDS OF OW in the same bed as the one he shared with the h??

No surprise there. Asking for non misogynistic authors is like asking for climate change to magically reverse. Way to uphold the status quo of making all women disposable to men while even the h can't have a gratifying sexual life and lives in utter and complete sexual and romantic isolation while the H fucks his way through "hundreds of women" while pretending it's you.

Normally I'm not so averse to OW talk in second chance but to this but it just get getting crueler and crueler because Nicholas could see how hurt Tam was getting over his descriptive anecdotes about how many OW he's fucked in the same bed since she was gone and just kept twisting the knife in.
He even went as far as comparing her pussy to OW while he was inside of her bare when they have sex again for the first time in front of the fire!!

He thinks its okay he has her tied to the same bed bc while yes he did fuck "hundreds" OW in that bed none of them ever stayed the night so it's apparently not that bad??

30% of the actual dialogue is him digging the knife in that he's fucked hundreds of her replacements while she's been celibate for 11 FUCKING YEARS and hasn't even had a friend to exchange Christmas gifts with over the years.

"A decade ago, when Nicholas first lost his Tam, he didn’t have the amount of control that he has now. He had rages. Benders. He brought more girls to the house the year before we turned twenty than he has in the ten years that followed, as though he could fuck his missing teacher out of his head."

"Me? I can settle my bloodlust with a good fuck, and since I have the money to hire the best—and most discreet—escorts I can, whenever Tam haunts me, I take my lust and need and frustrations out on a different Tamyrn Carlisle every time."

“I keep this for my girls. In case they want to freshen up when we’re done in the red room.
After about thirty seconds, he says, Would you like to hear about them?
He’s daring me. The edge in his question is such a juxtaposition to the way he’s gently pulling the brush through my hair, even taking care to detangle any of the knots near the bottom.”

"The rest of Reed House is off-limits to anyone who isn’t family—except for this particular room on the main floor. It’s down the hall from the back entrance, making it easy for me to lead my escorts straight to this space. That’s all they’re allowed to see. There’s even a bathroom for them to wash up before and after I’m done with them, and a quick boot out the door before I take my shower in my master bath."

"Every single woman I’ve fucked since then has tanned skin, dark brown hair, and bright brown eyes."

“I didn’t know where you were for eleven years. I tried to keep myself busy. All my girls”—I flinch, but he goes on as if I didn’t—”they were all you. Brown hair. Brown eyes. Freckles. I fucked you hundreds of times over the years, Tam, but it was never the same as the real thing. Never the same as you.”

"It was a reminder that this woman owned a tiny bit of me even when she was gone, and anyone of the escorts who asked about it got a different explanation—and a warning not to mention my tattoo ever again."

“Feisty, Miss Carlisle. Do you know what I do to feisty girls in this room?”

"Ah. I understand. This is where he fucks the women he brings here.
I shouldn’t be jealous. I really, really shouldn’t care about all the women he’s been with in the years I was gone. After all, it was only a fling to me and, no matter how he acts like I’m the only one he’s ever wanted, I’m sure he’s had plenty of replacements over there."

“You like that, Tam?” He pulls out, then slams back in. I guess he used up every last ounce of his gentle side before, and now this is exactly what he said it would be: breeding. “You take my cock like it was meant for you. We fit so goddamn perfectly, how can you think anyone could ever replace you? Fuck knows I tried, but this… this is all I’ll ever fucking need.”

"Usually, I’d be annoyed that I shot my load as fast as I did. I prefer to make my girls stay on their knees as long as they take it, enjoying the way they supplicate in front of me, worshiping my cock with their mouths."

"I wait for her to tell me ‘no’. To tell me to ‘stop’. To be fair, I’m a heartless bastard alone with the object of an unhealthy fixation. My cock is hard, her mouth is mine, and I’m taking it—but I never come harder than when one of my girls wants to worship me on their own instead of being forced to."

"It’s awkward. Messy. Real. By the time they’re ready for me, the escorts I hire might have sucked a hundred cocks. Getting off with them was always impersonal, just my way of using a warm body instead of a rough hand, and I waited for them to go through the motions, even when they seemed far more into it than I did."

"Does she buy my excuse? Does she think I’m just another one of Nicholas’s ‘girls’? Or Is she in on it? She looks too innocent to be a willing participant in allowing a woman to be taken captive"

"I don’t know how long it’s been since someone’s fucked her the way I have; for the remains of my sanity, I’m not going to ask, especially when I lost track of how many escorts I took, chasing the memory of " Carlisle, a long, long time ago. But as tight as she was on Christmas, as responsive as she was to my touch, I figured it’s been some time."

Hunter keeps saying that Nicholas is soft with Tam like he is with his Sally, but ultimately any chance he gets Nicholas reminds her of "his girls" the HUNDREDS OW he paid to replace her just to make her more insecure and remind her that she is also "his" but ultimately just like "his other girls", she is one in a long line of MANY. All while Tam still is dealing with pretty heavy body esteem issues and age issues around turning 35. There is that possessive element but with all of the NEVER ENDING reminders that he has called all of the OW "his" it's not endearing or romantic. It just reminds you that Tam will only ever be a possession to Nicholas.

⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
No Virgins
h celibate for 11 year separation
Manwhore H NOT CELIBATE at all (hundreds of random girls in 1st year of separation, then he upgrades to another hundreds of "his girls" to take into his red room)
"He had rages. Benders. He brought more girls to the house the year before we turned twenty than he has in the ten years that followed"

🚨ENTIRELY TOO MUCH OW COMPARISION (once out loud he compares her to the OW he's fucked while he's inside of her having sex)
NO OM
No cheating/sharing
Lots of violence
Kidnapping/Captivity
Forced breeding
Sexual manipulation/coercion
Light BDSM- bondage w/ ribbon
Abrupt ending

0/5🌟Too misogynistic and the h was written to be a doormat while the H just adds her to his collection of fucktoys. Also the characterization of Nicolas being obsessed with her was only HALF TRUE when he would compare her to OW and also call the OW "his" while relishing in telling her all about the OWs. He tells her he would never hurt her while actively causing emotional distress and trauma to an already insecure and fragile Tam.

Just too long and not nearly enough sex for a smut book.

Nicholas was "hot for teacher" over Miss Tam Carlisle. He was 19 and she was 24. After he graduated, they hooked up. Then he killed her ex-boyfriend as a sign of his love and devotion to her. Yada Yada the town turned against her and she left. Changed her identity and hid for 11 years. Now Hunter has tracked her down and delivered her to Nicholas as a Christmas gift.

Nic has no plans to let her escape. They eventually have sex again and then HEA.

Honestly, I thought it was pretty boring. Too much time spent on rehashing the reasons why she left. 200 pages of it. Again, very little sex considering the length of this book.

Not impressed.

Tamryn and Nicholas became lovers once under a situation that shouldn't have been. But when things go south, Tamryn finds herself losing everything so she walks away from the one thing she truly wanted, Nicholas.

Nicholas didn't understand why she left. Who cares if everyone was against them. He wanted her and she wanted him that's all that mattered, but to a woman like Tamryn it mattered, until it didn't.

Gift wrapped for Nicholas, druffed and left to see what he does, Tamryn learns just how obsessed he's been with her while she was gone. Can she get away? And the bigger question, Does she want to?

I was really enjoying this one at first…

It was spicy and festive but I just can’t stand when the FMC is a doormat.

Shockingly bad grammar/spelling errors that are littered everywhere and detract from the story so painfully I couldn't continue. No proofreading pass. Ooft.

***Trigger Warning****
If rapey stories is a trigger for you DO NOT READ this book!!!!!!

DNF... There has been very very few times that I have said I didn't finish a book. I read the first book in the series Hunter and Sally's book writing was ok done errors with editing but nothing I could get past and was a good Dar Romance Smutty Novella. This book however it is called Dark Romance but the vibes feel more like the evil villain with rapey vibes. I'm all for Dark Romance in fact it's on of my favorite genres add kidnapping yep can definitely be on board bdsm please daddy. But this book I can't get past the rapey controlling vibes. I manage to get to page 121. I feel like the author ran out of ideas and went hey let's go really really dark.

Hunter kidnapped his brother ex to gift to him for Christmas. Ok I've read this before but most stories the mmc is trying to gain her trust and get her to fall for him again. This one I don't care my brother gave me you as a present so we're fucking whether you want to or not. Like I said I've read dark romance and bdsm but this book ain't those and I just can't get past the rapey vibes.

That all being said not bashing the author or her book just because I didn't enjoy it doesn't mean someone else won't. As for the first book I liked the story line and the characters just can't get past the vibes in this book.

Good One

For those looking for a dark Christmas romance with the snowed in and one bed trope,...give this a gander. Even with grammar mistakes and some errors, I thoroughly enjoyed this read over Book 1. For some reason, Nicholas's romance with his old teacher was just a stringer story. In case you didn't know, Nicky Boy was 18, turning 19, when he decided to formally woo her. His age gets mentioned multiple times in this super shirt story. 😄 Just in case you weren't sure, the author would drop it in again, only to quietly mention that, of course, the teacher was perving on a 17-year-old.

Anywhoodle, the breeding trope is strong in this one, and it had some good OTT possessive scenes.Miss Carlisle was a great FMC. She made sound sense, her motivations were realistic, and we could see her struggle. 5 years age difference was nice to see. A story with a mid-30s FMC 😱 Well sl@p me silly and call me Shirley. I appreciated her storyline the most. Here, Nick seemed less angry than in Hunter's story, but either way, I enjoyed this read.

4.5 stars.

I am a SUCKER for a dark Christmas romance and this was EVERYTHING. This is DARK. Like dark dark DAAAARK.

It’s a dark christmas themed romance, with forced proximity, snowed in, anti-hero MMC, birth control tampering, second chance romance.. just everything dark and delicious. Smut was 3.5/5 on the spice scale and I was giggling to myself the whole time. It’s also a HEA and I’m so glad I got to read both twins’ stories!

I learned a lot about Tamryn (unknowingly) in book 1 during October, so to finally meet the infamous woman, was a satisfaction in and of itself. She’s got fire but also, the one that got away? I’d fall too.

Nicholas is a narcissist. And that won’t sit right with a lot of people. But there IS a softer side to him, and whilst this story won’t be everyone’s cup of tea after reading Hunter’s story, I loved seeing the full story of Nicholas. It was rewarding.

Nicky baby??? You are an unhinged feral fucking DOGGGG and I’m here for it 🥵 I loved Close To Midnight and this one was just as good! Yes there are some grammatical errors and typos, but I overlooked that easily bc the story was so interesting. Tamryn’s brain was telling her this wasn’t right, but her heart and coochie said otherwise.

I did think it was so weird it jumped from them fucking in the bathroom to 4 YEARS LATER WITH A CHILD ALREADY?! But also in the epilogue when Nicholas was talking about their fertility issues 🥺 and how he was happy he had a daughter as one last “fuck you” to his dad. Ugh! Tamryn brought out the softy Nicholas 🫶

Yes the whole deal with her being kidnapped and gifted to Nicholas by his twin, Hunter, was unhinged af but hey they lived happily ever after 🤭🤭

reads more like fanfic

I’m a little disappointed by this one. Tamlyn is the most relatable of heroines, being afraid of Nicholas’ behavior, not being amused by being kidnapped. But then, a lot of the story uses fanfic terminology that feels very unromantic and I struggle to feel swept away by the story. Maybe it’s because second chance romance is rarely my favorite, maybe it’s because there’s a heck of a lot less choice and agency offered to Tamlyn. But I couldn’t give this one more than two stars.

Boooooo. Again, mildly disappointing BS was happening. Too much backstory (which was totally unnecessary and irrelevant) and too much focus on feelings. Like way too much focus on feelings ew. I was porn, not a heart to heart.

Breeding kink didn’t really feel like a breeding kink, felt more like a weird subscription to bad therapy. And honestly, Nicky boy needs to get his priorities right, like Tf.

Anyway, it was just meh. Didn’t like the setup and honestly, noncon would make more sense otherwise than whatever the duck that was.

Book #2 in this series can be read as a stand-alone but I think it's much better to read them together as back story plays into it. This taboo forbidden teacher/student relationship with a reverse 5 year age gap & breeding. Nicholas finally gets his girl back after 11 long years. He'll do anything to keep her to include a deal that Tamryn can't refuse, but she doesn't need to make a deal to stay. She just needs to be be honest with her feelings for Nicholas. A dark, morally grey MMC with eyes for only one.

After reading Hunter's book back in October, I was excited for December to dive into Nicholas' story. This book was sweet and angsty with some good spice thrown in (3.5🌶️). I loved getting to meet Tamryn and get into Nicholas' head. I do feel like we got more information than anything else though, and I would've loved more development with the characters before it leaped 4 years at the end. I did love that ending though. All in all, this was a fun, quick read.

Should she stay

I totally enjoyed this one... Even though it was a little edgy

Tam and Nicky super hot , once you get past the crazy Obsessed love that they had , or he had , so to say .I could so see this as a life time movie .It amazed me how well she fell back in love with him after 11 years later .But I'm glad this Reed family is growing and it Ended happily. Great story

This book was so freaking good!!!!! I love the Reed twins and I thought by reading both books, I would be able to pick a favorite but I can’t. This book was written beautifully and had so much emotion. I had to cover up the bottom of the pages cause my eyes kept wanting to jump ahead! 10/10 recommend!!!

This one wasn't quite as consensual as the first one and the breeding isn't really my thing but, I really did enjoy it. In a twisted way Nicholas and Tamryn were able to mend their busted relationship from 11 years ago and find a HEA together eventually. I was a fan of the existense of the red room and there were parts of it I could have taken or left but all in all a nice spicy little novella.

I make it a policy to not read student/teacher romances because I teach and it gives me the ick but I was willing to push past it because I wanted to see what the other reed twin was like. It wasn’t bad. The weirdest part for me was how they kept referencing their past as teacher and student. I understand why and it made sense in the moment but it did cause this book to lose half a star.

Nicholas is about to have the best Christmas ever when his twin brother delivers a present to him. Tamryn left town years ago after a scandal between her & Nicholas and he's never gotten over it. She's the present and Nicholas is going to prove to her what she's been missing. Quick sexy read although I didn't care for the non consent tracking chip he put in her.

Nicholas and Miss CarlisLe

This was a good book,a bit too breedy for my taste but Nicholas is so intense and fixated on keeping Miss Carlisle that the breedy is in line with his character.I think Nicholas is even more intense than his twin, just not as stabby.I enjoy reading the secondary character stories from Springfield.

Starting to read the Christmas novellas, I liked this one it had a good story I didn’t find it to be as dark as I thought it might be but it was a good read and the ending was what I wanted to happen.
Nice quick read
I have ordered book 1 as that was a Halloween novella giving his twins story so looking forward to reading that too.

The editing in this book was even worse than in the first book. There were many times I was taken out of the story to mentally correct the errors this author has made. I much prefered Close to Midnight as it was the better story.

Cute, quick read..

This was the first book I’ve read by Carin Hart. The MMC is an unhinged, psychopath, but with serious soft spot for his lady love. A novella that’s a quick read, but sexy and fun. 4⭐️

Tamryn is living her life when she is kidnapped by Hunter, the twin of the boy she used to love. She is to be his brother’s Christmas gift and no one is asking her what she thinks about it! This was a crazy ride for sure. A little holiday fun for lovers of dark romance and crazy twins.
