So that's where Hulkling and Wiccan got to after interacting with the Wild West/Grootfall Guardians of the Galaxy. Genis-Vell was a clone of Captain Marvel, the Kree Mar-Vell. Basically all I know about Genis-Vell's first life is what Hulkling said he knew about him, that he'd gone power-mad and had to be put down. And I knew that like his father, he was bonded with Rick Jones for a while. Then he was resurrected a year or two ago in real time. This is apparently a mind-controlled, zombified version of that?
Hulkling seemed weaker than he is usually shown to be. I can understand that he'd be freaked out after fighting a mind-controlled and possibly reanimated (again) distinct clone/"son" of his father, who is calling Teddy his "little brother." But Hulkling seemed physically weaker, too. And Wiccan seemed stronger emotionally than he usually is, which is certainly a welcome change. Billy is generally depicted as mentally ill, but, refreshingly, not evil because of his mental illness. He's almost always overtly dealing with anxiety and depression, but is a good person. Here, Billy is the emotionally supportive one. That doesn't mean that his issues with anxiety and depression are gone, but it was good to see him being able to reassure his husband. Billy and Teddy are always protective of each other, but that was a nice touch.
So I'll have to catch up on this new version of Carol Danvers Captain Marvel. The Captain Marvel when I was originally reading comic books was Monica Rambeau, and Carol was Ms. Marvel. I've recently read a collection of Mar-Vell's first few appearances on Earth. So there's long-ago background that I now know about Mar-Vell, but that isn't immediately relevant.
It's confusing, and whatever, but I'll catch up some. And I'll continue to try to follow which comics Billy and Teddy are appearing in.
