“Ye cannae just come in me chambers in the middle o’ the night…”Keira Robertson has never lied to her father. Until she blurts out the most outrageous lie of that she has received a marriage proposal. A desperate move to delay an imminent betrothal.
But she has no idea what she’s getting herself into, claiming that her alleged suitor is none other than the cold brute Cormac McLaren…
Cormac is a liar, but he never anticipated that a fictitious marriage would weigh on his conscience. Even less, one that will stir his heart. All thanks to Keira, who persuades him to perform a simple task–feign a courtship with a deadline.
It turns out that for him, there’s no need to pretend at all and his feelings for her threaten to bring all his other deceits to the surface…
As Keira breaks his icy façade, she becomes a pawn in a game Cormac has been involved in for a long time. And if he doesn’t act fast enough, she’ll lose not only her respect for him, but her life too…

She lives in Dallas, Texas with her husband and their two sons. However, nothing could ever compare to writing stories depicting the majestic and mysterious Scottish Highlands!
I loved this book! The story of Keira and Cormac is filled with love, loss, danger and I loved every page of it! He has spent years working for an evil Laird who had tortured him and his brother, Ellair, in order to keep them both safe. This has led him to pull away from people. That is, until Keira. Her sister, Evangeline, is the wife of his friend, Iain and both Evangeline and Keira are a force of nature. Try as he might, he is incapable of staying away from Keira as she pulls him closer, first, for her crazy plan to avoid marriage and then as the two begin to develop feelings. It is a rough journey as in the beginning they are trying to make everyone believe they are in love and then as they are falling in love and he is trying to keep her and everyone else safe. When he tries to do the right thing, he will be found out and it puts Keira in danger. The two will try desperately to protect each other and just when it seems all is lost, Cormac’s brother and friend arrive with Iain’s soldiers to save them all. It is a hard won battle but in the end, Cormac finds that Keira was right all along, that no one will find him at fault for what he did to protect those he loves. And it will allow them to finally have their happily ever after - a marriage neither thought they would ever want but now can’t live any other way.
I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.
In order to protect his twin brother, Cormac from the MacThomas clan has been forced to help an evil man with his plans against Scotland. He has held this secret for many years and let no one get close to him. That is until Keira, sister to wife of Laird MacThomas, involves him in her plan of a false courtship to avoid an arranged marriage by her father. Cormac feels he must go along with her plan. But can he do that and still keep his secret hidden and everyone safe.
Keira wants to avoid an unwanted match and lets it be known that she is already had a proposal from Cormac. This story is filled with suspense, danger, unexpected romance and supportive characters. It was a very exciting period adventure set in the Highland. Wonderfully written and well-developed main characters that any reader will enjoy.
I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily leave this review.
For me this was just a ok read, I have to admit I skip through quite a bit of it for one thing Evangeline got on my nerves she got on my nerves in her own story, I'm all for strong and courageous women but she was to much. Anyway skip through to Cormac secret and his and Keira capture and the action begins , after the extended epilogue that was it. So again for me this was just a ok read for me.
This story was a tough one for me only in that Cormac was a sexy highlander being blackmailed into doing evil things for someone who threatened his twin brothers life. While I understand the why of the story, I just hated to have to think of him doing such evil acts. We all sacrifice for our loved ones. The chemistry was sizzling and the redemption as great. Well written story with likeable, complex characters!
A Terrific Story This is really a good story with interesting characters that kept my attention from beginning to the very happy ending. This story has ups, downs, twists, turns, excitement, passions I can't describe and so much more. It's really a good story. If you like the Highlander on the cover, you will love this story as I did.
Great, multi-faceted characters. Very interesting plot. Vivid descriptions. I felt every emotion. Just steamy enough. Kept me intrigued from the first page to the last. Simply a GREAT read!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
This story is attached to the previous books in the series. It was a good read with some emotion as the heroine is scared and looking for a relationship. The hero has always put duty first protecting those he cares for. It isn’t a story about clans feuding which is a nice change of pace. It was nicely written.
I enjoyed reading Cormac's and Keira's story, it was interesting and never boring. There is mystery, surprises and romance abound. Loved that family is there for support and not to judge. I enjoy reading Fiona Faris books.
Such a great story. Full of life's hardships and sacrifices. Keira and Cormac both have had lasting life injuries that they must overcome. Such a touching book. Great series
A marriage of convenience or fate? Kiera's first lie to her father leads to an unwanted betrothal and danger. The fight for self, family and freedom that follows makes for good reading!
